HeathBar - Challenging for two!

Recommended Posts

Brief Intro:

I’ve been around NF for a long time but haven’t done a challenge in over 2 years due to focusing on pharmacy school.  My didactic learning in school in finally over and now I can finally focus on other things again!  Usually I would be in the warriors guild but I’m making some changes since my husband and I are expecting our first child in September.  I’m currently 24 weeks pregnant with a baby girl.

For this challenge I’ll be recruiting my husband and fellow NF assassin, Kyliewyotie, to assist some of my goals.

Goal 1:  Track calories

Details:  My hope with tracking calories is to keep my weight gain on track and within the recommended guidelines for pregnancy.  I'll be using MyFitnessPal and giving myself one cheat day/week.  My calorie goal is set at 2200/day which is my maintenance calories + 200 extra (the recommended amount of extra calories in the second trimester).   If I do a cardio workout and track it with my HR monitor I’m allowing myself to eat back half of the calories.

Goal 2:   Workout 3 days/week in the morning.

Details:  I’m currently doing a body weight style variation of strong lifts as my workout first thing in the morning!  I’ve been changing and modifying it to keep it challenging yet accommodate my pregnancy.  I have to workout in the morning due to time constraints.

Right now my workouts look like this:

Workout A:

Squats with 40lbs dumbbells. 5x5

Knee pushups 10x5

Assisted pull ups 5x5

Workout B:

Squats w/40lb dumbbells 5x5

Pike pushups 10x5

Hip thrusts/glute bridge 10x5

Bonus Body weight circuit x3 (when time permits)

Bulgarian Split squats

Knee push up

Assisted pull up

Calf raises

Hyper-extensions

Goal 3:  Get 9500 steps per day.

Details:  Use my garmin vivofit to ensure I get at least 9500 steps every day.  Preferably while walking my dogs so they get some exercise too.

Shared Life Quest with Kyliewyotie:

Set up our star wars themed nursery!

Right now the room is an office with lots of stuff in it and furniture that is built into the walls.  The plan is to clear out all the stuff, tear down the built in desk and shelves, rip out the nasty carpet and rebuilt the room from scratch!

TL:DR

1. Don't overeat while preggo

2. Do workouts

3. Walk around

4. Build nursery

Welcome back and congrats on graduating! Kyliewyotie has been keeping me honest on here - you picked a good guy to do a life quest with!

Sooo many congratulations and good luck with everything. I remember thoroughly enjoying the weird looks I got when I went to the gym 7 months pregnant with my first. At 8 and 9 months I was still climbing flights of stairs all over my work site. You rock! And a Star Wars themed nursery Wins All The Things!

No workout this morning since I'll be working a 8am-4pm shift then a 5pm-9pm shift with a doctor's visit in between.

Getting a ultrasound today so I'm excited to see the baby again :)  It will probably be the last one until we get close to the end.

I hope the baby-viewing was fun!

How are you getting your steps accomplished? Also, how did you settle on the 9,500 steps per day number? That seems pretty specific...

Sonogram was went well.  It's always nice to see the baby moving around on the big screen :)

In regard to the steps, I have a Garmin Vivofit and that's what the app set my step goal as so I figured I'd just stick with it.  It adjusts your goal steps up and down depending on your average activity but mine usually hovers around 9500.  I love the Vivofit, it has been worth every penny!

Glad to hear it went well! We don't have kids yet, but that "yet" is a thing and I'm trying to soak up some knowledge from others before we have to figure it out for ourselves. I imagine all of the check-ups are a little nerve wracking until you hear that things are OK.

That makes sense about the steps.

I've been a bad girl.... had a long weekend with friends in town so I haven't tracked my calories or met my step goal since Thursday.  I was also supposed to do a workout this weekend  but didn't.

But I'm back on the bandwagon this morning. Ate a good breakfast and worked out.

Also learned that the baby either loves or hates loud movies.  She did summersaults inside me the whole time we watched Jurassic World this weekend.

Not having the best week but I figured I'd update anyways for accountability and such.

Monday:

Worked out.

9834 steps

2054 calories

Tuesday:

6118 steps

2171 calories

Wednesday:

8750 steps

2409 calories

Kyliewyotie is sick so I woke up early and walked/ran with the dog instead of doing our usual workout.

Thursday:

7691 steps

2439 calories

It's hot as hell outside this week and the humidity is off the charts.  I might need to start using the elliptical machine to get the extra steps I need at the end of the day.

The guy on Duck Dynasty used a paint shaker to win the steps competition. (Please note, I'm not a regular watcher of the show, but I saw that episode at it was funny).

I just had an off week which ended in a heat wave as well. At this point, I think the only thing we can do is adjust for the week to come! I'm sure the dog appreciated you pinch-hitting for Mr. Wyotie.
