petefeet
Hello kids and welcome to my ninth challenge! A little about me... I'm 41, live in Nova Scotia (east coast), Canada, unattached,no kids (one cat), have WAY too many books and proud of it. I'm a boiler and refrigeration operator by trade, though my dream is to have a "bricks & mortar" used bookstore. I currently, have a part-time one that I run out of my basement in my spare time and my whole inventory is science fiction & fantasy (my passion). Should be a link to my stores facebook page in my signature. I'm also a Freemason and quite active in my lodge, which has helped offset my normal "hermit" habits and given me a new confidence in myself and abilities. As well I'm an avid "Clash of Clans" & "Rival Kingdoms" player and the Nerd Fitness clans is always looking for new members no matter your level. Main Quest: In August 2013 I weighted 267 lbs and my doctor said I had to shut up about my sore knees or die (great guy, bedside manner of a doorknob). So, I started trying to get healthy and since I'm a type "A" person I use www.loseit.com as my food log and calorie counter. I hit my goal weight of 180 lbs but lost steam/motivation last challenge and am back up to 185 lbs So my main quest is to continue my healthy lifestyle and improve my fitness level and get back down to 180 lbs To do that... Side Quests: 1. Keep my daily food log and weigh-ins with my loseit.com account. 2. Do at least 3 Cardio workouts a week (min 20 minutes), even if its just walking around my sub-division or playing on recumbent bike. 3. Do the following Body Weight exercises during the week. 80 Push-ups 100 Squats 100 Leg Lunges (combined total of both legs) 150 Dumbbell Rows (combined total of both arms with new 25 lb weight) 5 Planks (as long as I can hold it, usually 30 - 40 seconds) 150 Jumping Jacks 80 Bicep Curls (combined total of both arms with new 25 lb weight) 40 Triceps drips Life Quest: Life Quest: My MAJOR life quest is to finish my basement and turn it into rec room/bookstore, though I'm going to add some minor life quests for this challenge since I've got a lot going on this summer and I'm working 5 days a week until September and can't do "home projects" at work during summer hours. mini life quest #1 Spend 1 hour a week working on Family History (Genealogy). This is a passion of mine, but always seems to get pushed back until I have more "free time". mini life quest #2 Spend 1 hour a week doing bookstore jobs. This could be updating ads, sorting books, doing quotes etc... mini life quest #3 Spend 1 hour a week doing Lodge projects. This could be memory work, sorting refundables for our "Bottles for Bursaries" program, draft a promotional booklet, help get ready for the summers parades etc... mini life quest #4 Spend 1 hour a week writing. This could be drafting a new story, sorting the 8 million post-it note ideas I have, "fixing" a current story so I can submit it etc... To help keep me sane (ish), I also like to write. So I will be continuing the adventure of petefeet as he explores the world around him. I try and take parts from my real life and weave them into a story. So far.... (Check 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th , 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Adventure's for written story) Petefeet is a halfling who was kidnapped by raider's as a small child and taken to a large human city and sold as a slave to the people running the cities gladiator arena. For much of his young life he was used as a servant, used to fetch and carry for the Masters and the gladiators. After many years of this, petefeet starts to realize that he wants more out of life and starts to secretly steal better food meant for the Master's and starts trying to copy the exercises done by the gladiators. Just when the Master's start to realize that something is changing with their normally meek and cowardly Halfling slave, an outside (Maybe the "Lady in Flames"?) force intervenes. How and when it happens is still a blur to petefeet, but one day he finds himself waking up in the middle of a crater out in the middle of the wilderness wearing nothing but his slave robes, which are now tattered and singed. Found by a young human girl named Jan and her Grandfather, petefeet had his burned skin tended, feed and dressed in old work clothes. In an effort to repay them for their kindness, petefeet offered to rid them of an giant rat that had taken up residence in their work hut. With nothing to protect his hands, our little Halfling wrapped the burned and tattered remains of his slave robes around his hands (like boxing mitts) and went into battle. It was during the battle with the giant rat that petefeet realized that the old robes held some magic (or was the focus for an innate ability or a gift from "Lady in Flames"?), for when he became scared, tiny sparks formed on the old robes covering his hands and when he punched the giant rat burns were also left upon the beast though petefeet received no damage. The more is was able to control his fear, the better he was able to hurt the beast. Since that day, petefeet has wandered the land, helping out where he came, getting into the odd bit of trouble and making new friends. He isn't quite sure where he is going, though is sure he will know it when he finds it. petefeet spent the winter months in an abandoned manor house leaving the larger world for another day, but now that spring is here, he's doing a little exploring and has discovered the nearby village of Apple Valley. With summer upon him petefeet has been busy making improvements to his lean-too home within the abandoned Pryde family estate, foraging and growing food for the coming winter and exploring the world around him. Characters within the story petefeet = Me Giant Brown Bear/Were-bear = My friend Hal who I only get to see a couple times a year. "Lady in Flames" (figure in petefeet's dreams) = Friend who I realize I'm falling in love with, and the knife edge I'm walking wanting to be more without losing a important friendship. Lately my emotional state (both good and bad) seems tied into my relationship with her, so I've taken to writing about her more as a way to give voice to my feeling (as a way for me to process). Black Dog (figure in petefeet's dreams) = Depression & that insidious emotion called "Hope" Mickey the Cat (Mysterious Wizards Familiar?) = My cat named Mickey! 6 Quote Race: Halfling Class: Rebel Recruit 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th 14th 15th Current Challenge Writer's Guild Fictionfirst Used Books (Feel free to like my page!) petefeet
When petefeet wakes up the air is heavy and thick with mist making breathing difficult for the little halfling, as any movement causes him to break out in a sticky sweat. Getting up is an effort, as he also realizes that his belly is making uncomfortable gurgling noises and he feels slightly light-headed. Trying to not dwell upon his discomfort, petefeet begins his day. With the weather such as it is, it does allow our little halfling the chance to take it easy until realizes that estates fountain that he repaired several weeks ago appears to be plugged causing it to overflow making a mess within the courtyard. Bound and determined not to let this set back annoy him, our little halfling begins humming a tune to himself as he works to unplug the old crumbling fountain. At first petefeet thinks his simple tune is echoing off the stone walls of the abandoned Pryde estate, an effect of the heavy air, until he realizes that his simple tune has two echo's and his much more pleasing to the ears than his own voice. Forgetting his efforts with the fountain, petefeet keeps humming his simple tune as he looks for the cause of his "echo". With a little patients he finds it, there are two mocking birds sitting in a nearby tree keeping out of the rain and parroting the halfling. Smiling to himself, the halfling goes back to the efforts of the day feeling better than he did before. Hey kids, Woke up with tummy troubles this morning, stayed with me all day, not sure why/how. Not the end of the world. Rainy, hot and humid here today as well, that sticky feeling you get from just breathing. Spent most of day at work, unplugging/re-plumbing one of the large air handling units at my work. All the humidity in the air cause a restricted drain to overflow and make a mess. Not the end of the world, fixed it, actually nice to get my hands dirty from time to time and "see" the results for my efforts. For the first time in my life I've been the victim of "krank calls". Two young girls (said they were 11) called me several times last night and played songs from the radio and sung along! It was kids just being kids, no harm done, but after the third time I told them to story or I would call back later (call display) and talk to an adult. All good after that. petefeet
With no break in the sticky and muggy weather, petefeet sheds as many layers as possible and decides to go on a foraging trip into the wilderness. The recent rains have made his usually haunts a soggy mess as the halfling finds himself sinking into the thick moss and leaf litter of the forest. The rains have also turned some of his prime foraging grounds into a series of mini lakes burying some of his favorite herbs and shoots. While bend over trying to pull some fresh onion shoots out, petefeet feels a log bump up against his leg, but pays it no mind as he wades through the calf deep water hunting for more edibles. It's only after the "log" bumps him a second time does the halfling take a proper look and find a 10 foot snake for company within the large puddle. Unable to help himself, petefeet panics and starts thrashing in the water, as he drops his basket and looks for high ground, only to have the giant snake strike before he can flee. In one powerful motion, the snake weaves itself between the halflings legs, tripping him, causing the pair to fall into the shallow water. Rolling around, petefeet does his best to get away from the giant snake, only to find his arms pinned against his body as the snake coils itself around the halfing squeezing the breathe out of him. Kicking his heels and trying to force the iron like muscles of the snake away from him just causes our little halfling to tire himself all the more quickly and in seconds petefeet is finding it almost impossible to get a lung full of air. Just as his body uses the last of the oxygen within his blood, petefeet realizes that this could be the end as be starts to blackout and starbursts explode behind his eyes. Whether what next really happens or not, or is just a image created by his oxygen starved brain, but the starbursts dance around and quickly form into a silhouette of the "Lady in Flames". New strength flows through the halfling and petefeet is able to slip one arm out the numerous coils encircling his body. As his rag wrapped fist pounds into the scaly side of the snake, a tiny flicker of flame burst forth which slowly grows and hope surges through the halfling. At first, his weak blows seem to have little or no effort upon the snake, until the coils start to loosen and petefeet is able to partly wiggle free. With both hands now free, the halfling punches the snake repeatedly and each blow leaves a small scorch mark upon the snake. Finally giving up, the snake quickly uncoils and slips away. Heaving for breath, petefeet can only kneel in the shallow water as he realizes how close he came to being that snakes next meal. Hey kids, Spent ALL day today using a pressure washer to wash the 90,000 little fuel tank at my work (roughly the size of a large 5th wheel travel trailer) getting it ready for painting. I drug around the stupid hose all day, tripping over it several times as it got caught up in the tall grass etc.. By the end of the day, I was soaked and sore. Oh well, good calorie burn if nothing else. Had my weekly visit with "LiF" last night, almost no time alone. She's pretty worn out at the moment, working 6 day weeks (doing her bosses shift on Saturday's while he's doing store reno's). She turned me down for a road time this weekend to find this used bookstore about an hour west of me cause she might have to work again this Saturday, also I realized/said that she'll need to recover anyways. She's a bigger Introvert than I am, and it takes a lot out of her to man the shop/deal with public etc.. She needs her "cave time". We're hoping to make a road trip on August 1st to another booksale, here's hoping. She had also put aside some books for me written by Kelley Armstrong who will be a guest at my local Sci-fi & Fantasy Con in October. Just the simple fact that she thought about me while I wasn't there warmed my heart. So far this week been able to get some walks in and some Body weight exercises after I get home from work, there's hoping I keep it up. Main Quest: Weighted in at 185 lbs this morning. petefeet
More than a little shaken by his brush with death at the scales of the giant snake, petefeet decides to stay close to home for a little while. Staying safe and sound within his lean-too on the abandoned Pryde family estate might have sounded like a good idea at first, but our little halfling soon become bored and short tempered causing the cat Mickey to seek the protect of the rafters. Realizing that he's not in a good spot mentally, petefeet takes a couple deep breaths, gathers his rabbit skin cloak and trudges of into the rain. With no purpose in mind and timid to leave the safety of the ruins, petefeet ambles through the collapsed stone blocks of the estate, wondering what the main house must of looked like when it stood. As petefeet stands and stares at the massive pile of fallen stone, he sees an area near the top of the stone pile that appears to have been hit by lightening sometime in the past, the stone is blackened and crumbled. Heedless of the current weather, the halfling climbs up the slippery jumble of rocks until he finds the source of the strike, a twisted and rusty sword that somehow has become wedged between the blocks. Finding the cause of the lightening strike, petefeet is about to turn away in case the old adage about lightening isn't correct, when he spies a rough tunnel formed when the main house collapsed near the sword and a piece of armour near the opening. The tunnel is more of a pit, and fearing that he might not be able to get out of the hole, retreats to his lean-too and looks for something to aid him. The halfling briefly considers using his braided ropes made from animal skins, before he dismisses them as too weak and instead decides that simple is best. Taking one of the fallen trees from the nearby woods that he had planned to break up for firewood, petefeet balances it on his shoulder and heads back over to the hole. Climbing the slippery rocks while dragging a dead tree soon tires the halfling, but after much moaning and groaning he is able to slide the tree into the hole, it's branches staggered to at as steps. Wondering that the wisdom of his actions, petefeet shucks his cloak and carefully climbs down the hole. Less than 10 feet deep, the tunnel opens into a small space caused by large timbers when the manor house collapsed and the stone surrounded it. Unable to stand, and with almost no light, petefeet never the less figures out the puzzle. Sometime in the past, a large spider had made its home is this small hole and had drug home it's kill, that of an armoured knight. Still wrapped in layers of spider web, the remains of the knight look like a martinet, a toy a child would own. Long dead, it appears that the knight was still able to win his last battle since the spider lives dead near his feet, a burn spot from a lightening strike clear on the dried out body of the spider. Fearing what trying to move the knight would do to the stability of the hole, petefeet carefully backs his way out and using the dead tree as a hand hold, is able to climb free. Once out of the hole, petefeet does what he can, and levers a couple stones into the hole, sealing the knight within his tomb. His head full of thoughts about his own future and what it might hold, the halfling goes home. Hey kids, Nothing too special going on in my world, been stuck in my own head these past couple of days, playing the "what if" game. When to my folks place the other day and along with my father cut off one of the old basement (vacant farm house beside my folks new house) hand railings (tree) to use in my basement. I like the idea of having something from the family home. I cleaned it up, did a light sand to take off splinters, gave it a coat of wax and hung it. It has a beautiful patina on it from generations of hands using it to climb up/down the basement stairs. My brother is getting ready to gut the old farm house and redo it for his family, and while clearing out 200+ years of junk, he came across an old box of my G.I. Joes (knight). I thought they had been lost or destroyed by my younger brothers. The box was a nest of spiders, and only some of the Joe's had all their parts, but it was a treasure non the less! petefeet
His recent brush with death at the scales of the snake, combined with the discovery of the long dead knight in the spiders den, has left petefeet moody and listless. The halfling tried to sleep through his issues, but for some reason Mickey the cat insisted on waking him bright and early. Doing his best to keep his temper, petefeet tries going about his daily tasks but nothing seems to be going right this morning. He spills his morning tea, burns his hand on a pot, ruins his breakfast by using salt instead of sugar and a dozen other things cause the halfling to take an early morning walk to clear his head. Uncertain as to the cause of his discomfort, petefeet knows that a part of it has to do with the dark and cold weather and the lack of visions of the "Lady in Flames" in his dreams, but there has to be more to it than that doesn't there? His walk in the woods lets him stumble upon a patch of wild raspberries which the halfling gathers up as best he can before turning to head home, only to realize that he isn't quiet sure where he is... Petefeet panics briefly before he gets his emotions in check and notices the position of the cloud covered sun and is roughly able to get a bearing on which way he needs to go. Realizing that his lack of attention could lead to real danger, the halfling does his best to focus upon the task at hand and heads home. Hey kids, Been in a bit of a funk lately, not really sure why, I'm moody at the best of times. Mickey woke me up early, looks like my desktop had been acting up overnight going through about a million failed reboots and making beeping noises that freaked him out. Took my PC to local repair shop (saw "LiF" come to work, her work is next door to repair shop. Thought about going in and saying Hi, but I didn't think it was fair to inflict my mood upon her so early in the day) but owner is unsure if he can save my PC. I hope he can at least save some of my files, I have a back-up of my bookstore inventory but not all of the photo's are backed up. Tried to work in basement but a dead battery cut my effort short, then my Mother texted wanting help figuring out a GPS she just bought that she needs to use tomorrow! So I spent most of the day at my folks installing software etc and "trying" to explain/show my Mom how to use it. Shot me, shot me NOW!!! For some reason she didn't understand why she needed to know the address of the place she was trying to get too (really Mom?)
