RuthixCube's Epic Quest to find her strength

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I'm RuthixCube, and I'd like to welcome you to my Battle Log! :]

About me: I'm 26, Massachusetts born and raised, and am mostly a homebody. I have a wide array of interests: cars, motorcycles, vintage trucks and classic muscle, pin up culture and fashion, pretty much anything to do with the 1920s/40s/50s, video games (XBOX/PS4/PC/3DS), cooking, tattoos/piercings, urban exploring (or exploring in general), Formula 1, traveling, antiques, crochet, special effects make-up, and I'm sure a handful of other things I'm too tired to remember.

In April, I joined a Roller Derby league, which is the best thing I could have done for myself. It's given me a sense of community, regular exercise, and a hobby (all of which I was lacking). As of tomorrow, I will officially be a level 2 skater in my league - this means I'm one level away from being a scrimmagable player (YAY!). I'm also pretty big into cooking - always trying new recipes and planning my meals for the week. Baking is my favourite, but I've curbed that back quite a bit since eating more healthy.

Since June of 2014, I've been dealing with stomach problems that have yet to be diagnosed. There are a handful of foods that I have figured out aggravate it - almonds, broccoli, caffeine, and apples for certain, tomatoes occasionally. I'm also mildly lactose intolerant (I figured I'd mention this now, as it will probably come up in my thread somewhere down the road).

My NF Journey: I've been a member of the Rebellion and the Women's Academy since October 2014, but I honestly haven't done much with it. I tried the forums in the beginning and found them too confusing; as is my usual nature, I gave up on them quickly. In February/March I discovered the Women's NFA Facebook group, which has been of some help, but it hasn't kept me accountable. Now that the Academy forums have closed, I've heard so much from other members of how the community has helped them on their fitness journey, and I wished it was something I had given a second chance. I'm not the type of person who can keep at things on her own - I need that support from people who understand my struggles, and that kick in the ass that only other Rebels can give  :P  I'm also incredibly excited/nervous to make friends with people who have similar nerdy interests. All in all, I'm working towards finding myself, pushing my limits, and becoming the best me that I can be both physically and mentally in my NF journey.

I'm going to end it here for tonight. I'll list my goals and some other things in my next post.

Night!

As we are in between challenges right now, I think it's time to update/redo my battle log and use this in the meantime. For me, this is a total respawn - especially as there are new worksheets and set up instructions.

Let's do a little recap of the last 6-7 months, in no particular order:

-I left an unhealthy, emotionally abusive relationship

-Entered a new, much more healthy relationship that is going fantastically

-I've been doing a whole load of nothing health-wise

-I feel like crap constantly

-I probably look like crap, too

-I adopted a little hedgehog baby! As of 6/25 he will be 5 months old :)

-In a week and a half I will be moving into a new apartment, which I'm wicked excited for

-I'm no longer going to therapy or taking anti-anxiety medication

-In February I left my previous job (which made me utterly miserable), and started a new job that I really enjoy

-The BF and I had a little weekend getaway in May where we went up to the Bangor, ME area and had a wonderful time

-I'm leaving tomorrow evening (6/15) for a long weekend camping trip in Acadia, ME with the BF and his parents

I think those are all the big, notable things that happened. Given how much my life has changed since the start of the year, it seems appropriate that my goals and wants for myself have changed too. From now until the start of the next challenge, I'll be focusing on packing and moving into the new place. Therefore, this Battle Log will be used int he interim and for me to keep track of my progress.

Blegh, I have so much to say and do that I don't even know where to begin. Well, alright, lets start with the move...

SO, moving tasks. We Have an appt on Monday to sign the lease and hand in the necessary payments. Between now and then, I need to call National Grid and set up the electricity, and we need to settle on renters insurance as the leasing office needs both before they will give us the keys. I can call the electric company tomorrow, while the BF will be responsible for calling about renters insurance as he's like to do it through his insurance company. Once all the info is in, we can pick up the keys in the evening of the 23rd, with move in starting the 24th. We have a pretty solid plan for move in, seeing as none of us have to be out of our current places that day. We're going to move everything in order of priority, starting with furniture. After that it will be food/kitchen stuff, clothes, bathroom supplies, etc. Hopefully this means we wont be stressing out too much knowing we have wiggle room to work with. I'd like to start staying over as of that Sunday, but we'll see how everything goes. I haven't even started packing my shit up, so that's a thing. I'll likely pack in order of priority as well, going through what I have as I go for donating/selling/trash. I've got a lot of clothes to get rid of cause I just don't wear them, and I'm sure I have a bunch of little trinket things and what have you that I can get rid of as well to make more space.

To conclude, my to-do list:

-electricity

-renters insurance

-money order for payment

-sort and pack personal items

-pull kitchen supplies out of storage

-post items for sale online

-drop donations at a drop box or donation center

-purchase cleaning supplies

-make grocery list & meal plan for first week or two

-Get keycard for the fitness center

-Move in Bean and Nadel (BF's hedgie)

Unfortunately, I'm going to be losing a good chunk of time between now and then. After work tomorrow, the BF and I are driving up to Acadia to go camping. We're meeting up with his parents, who have been there since Tuesday. Although this cuts me short on time, I am really looking forward to it. We went up to Maine in early May and it was wonderful. This will be more hiking oriented, but I'm okay with that. I actually used to hike a lot when I was younger. My dad was big into it, and has climbed all the white Mountains in NH. I've been wanting to go back to it for years, I've just never had anyone to go with and I'm oh so out of shape. BF is very outdoorsy, so it's given me a bit of the push I needed to get out more. I'm sure I'll be achy and sore by the time we get home on Sunday, but I don't even care. There's going to be more than a few walking trails and such for us to do within a few miles of the apt too, which we're looking forward to. One of them is our favourite outdoor skating spot. He's a long boarder, so it's usually him with his board and me on my quads from derby (which I still really miss... :(). Hell, we've talked about him teaching me how to long board too, which would be cool because then I can just jump off if I need to instead of stepping/walking on my toe stops/falling on my ass. I have to admit, skateboarding is something I've always thought was cool, but never got around to learning or whatever. I was always too shy/anxious to go to skate parks or anything like that. Plus, my balance is not the greatest lol.

Well, I'm gonna stop there for now. I doubt I'll have the service to post over the weekend, so I'll likely be back on Monday if I don't post tomorrow.

I am officially back from my weekend vacation, and it was amazing (mostly)!

We left Thursday evening after we got everything packed up. I was the only one who could drive, as we were taking my car and the BF doesn't know how to drive stick. Whatever, no biggie. We stopped 2-3 times for food and restroom breaks, and it wasn't until the last 1.5-2hrs (out of the 5) that I really got tired. We had light for the first half of the drive, and then it was just black, because apparently Maine doesn't have street lights. Plus, I had to watch out for moose and deer and whatever else might jump out into the road, which is semi-stressful. Anyway, we made it to the campground at 12:30am, set up the tent and our sleeping bags, and then used the restroom before going to bed. Aside from the butt-end of the driving, the only downside to the trip was that my sleeping mat had a hole in it, and therefore wouldn't hold air. Due to that, I didn't get good sleep because I was basically sleeping on the wood plank platform. We were up early each day, usually around 7-7:30. I kept waking up around 5:45, and then rolling back over for another hour and a half.

Friday, we had overcast, but good enough weather to go hiking. We had an easy breakfast (boiled eggs and bagels w/ cream cheese) before heading out into the park.We climbed Mount Gorham, which was a few hours up. The views were GORGEOUS - lots of water and beach on one side, while there were trees and more of the park on the other side. We had lunch at the summit before making our way down. There are some crazy hikes that we couldn't do because they were closed off or the weather wasn't right. Hopefully we'll get to go back again and do some of those. That night we went into Bar Harbor for dinner, which was really delicious. It's a pretty and quaint little area, the architecture is beautiful.

The rest of the weekend was spent driving around and sightseeing as the weather was pretty crummy. One of the places we stopped at was a Japanese inspired garden. It was a lovely little place and had so much to see. There was a zen garden, various Japanese sculptures, a stream, bridges, etc. A lot of our downtime at the campground was used walking around the grounds and checking out the various sites. That way, in the future, we can try to reserve one that we really liked instead of going in blind. Our favourite was a secluded little site at the back part of the property. Although there were other sites close by, there was enough foliage and trees to give adequate privacy.

We packed up and got ready to leave after breakfast on Sunday. Of course, with my luck, I discovered that my car battery had died. That was a fun time. Thankfully we were able to get cables and jump it with the BF's parent's car so we could be on our way. The drive home was mostly uneventful, aside from having a dude in a Civic mimic every move I made when we were close to home - though I'm now remembering events that happened on the drive up that I forgot to mention!

SO, there were two moments specifically that happened. The first was not even 20 miles down the road from our starting place on Friday, There was a Chevy SUV that was just up my ass in the left lane. I pulled into the right lane to let him drive and kind of just lazily flipped the bird because that's just what I do. Of course, I wasn't expecting the guy to see it because it was barely above window line level. Well, apparently he did. He slowed way down to match up beside me, and I just ignored him because I'm not about acknowledging road rage and perpetuating it. It's over and done with, I moved over to let him pass, fini. Well, this guy decides it's a great idea to get all on my ass about it. After a few miles of ignoring him and hoping it stops, I say fuck it and make a few choice moves to get away from him. I figured my tiny little hatchback was small enough to get into those gaps and there's no way he would be able to follow me with the size of his vehicle and a truck in the way. I was wrong. Not 2 minutes later this guy is on my ass. Again, I speed up, go around two cars, and get back in the left lane when it's clear. Well, this guy pulls up on me again, and this time I'm pissed because I don't and never wanted to have any part in this. He pulls up along my right side, and I lean forward, give him a real finger this time, and tell him to back the fuck off. He finally left me alone after that, but I was surprised. He didn't look mad or angry, wasn't yelling, but instead looked kind of indifferent and gave the hand signal for confusion over the situation. Like, if you're confused, why the fuck were you getting all road rage-y and running up my ass? Of course, he proceeded to drive like a moron and make stupid decisions. Not my problem anymore.

The second event happened in New Hampshire about an hour or so later. I'm in the middle lane and there's a younger dude in a giant, lifted, I'm-clearly-compensating-for-something, diesel truck in the right lane next to me. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see he's trying to keep nose to nose with me, and revs every so often to keep it up and/or to get my attention. Of course, I ignore this. I get this kind of crap all the time because I'm a girl that drives a manual sport car with rally mud flaps. It's kind of par for the course :apthy: Finally he pulls away. A few miles up, I'm now in the left lane passing people who are going too slow and he's in the middle lane. I go to pass him (because he's going slower than me), and he decides this is a great time to play. Yeah, no. I speed up a bit to just get by, and he mimics me. What the actual fuck. I drop two gears, and just go. Turbo kicks in and I'm finally away from him. He did try to follow, but with the size and weight of his car, he just couldn't keep up. Plus, he apparently forgot that he needed to get off at the next exit and crossed over all lanes of traffic to do so *face palm*. Things like this baffle me, and it's one of the downside of being a female car enthusiast, but whatever.

Now that vacation is over, it's time to get on top of packing shit up. We signed the lease yesterday and paid for everything. I'll be able to pick up the keys on Friday evening, and then we'll start moving in on Saturday morning. I guess my sister and mom are getting a U-Haul, which is helpful. The BF and I still need to figure out if the bedroom furniture we're getting from my mom is actually going to fit in the room, otherwise we need to come up with a secondary plan. We also need to make sure that the hedgie cages have space since they will be in there too (did I mention that he has one as well?).

To-Do's for this week:

-go through clothing: trash/donate/sell

-pack up knick-knacks, craft stuff, books, etc

-sort through unopened bins from previous move to determine if keeping or not

-separate and pack kitchen items

-create a meal plan for the next two weeks so that we can grocery shop on Sunday

-LAUNDRY

-clean Bean's cage

-empty out my car

-pick up keys Friday

There's probably more and I'm just not remembering them. I'm overloaded with work and personal things that have to get done, so I'm kind of running slow. I don't know what I'd do with out the Bullet Journal I started a few weeks ago. I've used it just about every day (except while I was up north), and it's really helping me keep on track. Maybe it will stick this time.

Holy crap, it has been one hell of a week....

- Moving: Everything went well, and smoothly for the most part. We got a Uhaul, threw all the furniture in there, and I drove it to the new place. We have more room than we expected, which is really nice. We've moved in most of our stuff, though we all still have things we need to grab to complete the move. We have put a lot of stuff away, but there is just as much that still needs to be unpacked (if not more). We still need to buy a lot of stuff, but we're only doing so on an as needed basis. Unfortunately, we wont be able to have internet for another week and a half, as that's the earliest we could have someone come by and set it up for us....that just means I will only be able to really use the internet and what have you while I'm in the office as I can get WiFi. Just means I wont have anything to distract me at home so I can focus on unpacking.

-Other: as of the end of last week, I've been experiencing severe pain in my upper jaw and really bad headaches. It was getting to the point of being crippling, but I couldn't get to urgent care because there was nothing they would be able to do for me (I called, not assuming). I stayed home from work yesterday and called my dentist as soon as they opened. They were able to get me in right away, thankfully. They did a cursory look, took some x-rays, and did a physical check. Definitely has to do with one of my upper teeth, the one that has my only filling (which is where I suspected it was originating from). Nothing showed up on the x-ray, and she couldn't find any cracks in my tooth. The suspicion is that I either have a small infection between the filling and my nerves/gums, or that the filling is irritating the nerve because it is so deep. They gave me antibiotics, and if that doesn't help then I may need a root canal. After I was there yesterday, I have two bouts of awful, terrible pain. It actually felt like my teeth were going to fall out and my gums were very sensitive. It only lasted 5-10min, but damn did it feel like eternity. Today, things are looking up. The only issue I'm having is that the one tooth is very sensitive to pressure and touch, so chewing is a delicate process, but I'm not going to complain because it is an improvement. Hopefully the antibiotics do t he trick, and I'll be good to go until my follow up in a few weeks.

-Challenge: Now that the last challenge is over, I'm going to get ready to set up my return/respawn challenge for the upcoming start date. I'm hoping to have that completed by the end of the week, but it will entirely depend on how busy I am at work since that's the only place I'll be able to set it up.
