MR_Willes: "Keeping it fun!"

Recommended Posts

Slept in, which felt great! Did some paperwork after that, because we had a little storm, and wasn't able to do anything outside. After lunch went to a client who had problem with his wifi-network. Fixed them rather quick, and implemented some best practices to improve his situation and give him some advice. Really rewarding visit. Just in time back home for the first "hard social event" of the day. Had a total of two hard social events today. Regarding the beer drinking quest. In the afternoon a party of a nephew of the wife. He became 10 so actually it's a sort of kids party, but every kind of party at that family is accompanied with large amounts of beer. So it was tempting to give in, just to join the rest of the people there drinking. Somehow i survived, also a big thanx to the uncle, he knows i'm trying to "better" my life, and allthough everytime he asked what i wanted to drink (hoping i would say beer) he never made a remark when i ordered tea after tea.

In the evening pokernight with my friends. We are trying to get together for about 3 or 4 months now, but it's always something. And somehow it just seemed like all the stars were aligned or something. We need a minimum of 5 this time we were with 7. And not unpleasant was the fact that i walked away with the greatest profit! Slain a few monsters too, no beer, and mindful eating. Only had 2 snacks, which were cooked in an airfryer (only cause i never had them cooked in one, and was curious to the taste). It tasted real good, but not having any of those any time soon, maybe they were "cooked" a bit healthier, the snack in itself remains a typical (unhealthy) snack.

So all in all a good day, only bad thing is that i didn't work out. And because i can only make up tomorrow that means i'm not making my Quest exercising 4 times a week. A well, that's life, it's like that sometimes. If i see how i'm motivated at this time i'm pretty sure i'm gonna make up for it in the rest of the challenge. Also a big hurray for my lifequest, hanging out with the buds was on my lifequest-list.

Week 1 Saturday:

Quest 1: (Excercise): 2/32

Quest 2: (Eating): Cheat days: 0/6

Quest 3: (Drinking): Cheat days: Small: 1/9 || Big: 0/3

Lifequest: (KEEP.IT.FUN): 1/6

Your music reqs make me think we need to revive the Jukebox... hmmmmmmm....

Somehow i got the feelling you are not meaning you now suddenly want a jukebox in every establishment you frequent. So was there a jukebox on the rebellion? Getting curious now! That would be so awesome. I would love a central place where people talk about music. For me music helps me a lot with working out. The only times i don't work out with music is on the grouplessons i do at the gym. So i would really like to know where everybody is listening to, and what they use to workout with.

Sunday, rest day, but not for me, not this time. I got up somewhat early, put on my running stuff and fled the house. Didn't know upfront how far i was gonna run, was aiming for 10-12 KM. I started off quite a bit faster than usual. So by the time i was at about KM 7 or 8 i decided i would go for 10KM, and try to keep my time lower than 05:00 per KM. Somehow i lost track of the amount of KM's i did and ended up doing 11 KM in 54:24. The last 2 KM and especially the last KM was getting realy tough. But was very pleased with my average of 12.16 KM/H! Next milestone is gonna be 12 KM under the hour. And the goal i have for the run at work is 16 KM with an average of 12 KM/H so i seem to be on course!

Rest of the day we took the kids to an indoor playground! They had the time of their life! The eldest came back after half an hour of playing, with a head as red as a tomatoe from running around and climbing (it's one great kids-assassin-parkour)! And we saw the youngest only three times, once to drink, once for an icecream and once when we ate there. They were completely exhausted when we left, almost slept in the car on the way home. These are great days. Me and the misses in the beginning had some time alone and were trying to find a good place to go to on for a weekend, just the 2 of us. I still have a gift-card for one night in a 4 star hotel. So we took the ipad with us and when the kids were playing we had time to see where we were going. A couple of minutes after we arrived we got a text of friends of ours who told us they were coming too. And after about an hour, some other friends texted, and an hour after that some more. So at the end we ate there with 8 adults and 8 children. Had a great time! Very good way to finish off the weekend and my first week of the Challenge! I will do a recap in a seperate post.

Week 1 Sunday:

Quest 1: (Excercise): 3/32

Quest 2: (Eating): Cheat days: 0/6

Quest 3: (Drinking): Cheat days: Small: 1/9 || Big: 0/3

Lifequest: (KEEP.IT.FUN): 1/6

The beer took a lot of effort. And i know it was just because of this challenge i made it. Now for this reason alone i hope summer will fly by quick, much easier during autumn and winter!

The thing i really like is that, fun day for the families are getting better for everybody. The kids can enjoy themselves better, and now we can starting to enjoy ourselves too. Not having to worry too much for the kids hitting something or falling or something like that. We "could" peacefully enjoy an alcoholic beverage now... ;)

Willpower is a muscle and you are exercising it!

Young children, I have to imagine, are much like kittens in that they scare you to death the minute they leave your sight. Everything gets better when they grow up a bit and stop trying to kill themselves, lol. Indoor playgrounds sound like a lifesaver for the right age group.

As for what to wear, SO do not wear cotton sweat pants. 1- they stretch out and drag. 2- they get heavy with mud and water.

The best I've seen for guys running it are decent basketball shorts that TIE AT THE WAIST. And a sweatwick shirt. My brother swears by knee pads and gloves. I've never used them but I don't mind skin meeting rock so much. I just grit my teeth and endure it. It's user dependent I think.

What to bring: check and see if they post about there being water stations/banana stations. If it's provided on the course, you might not need to bring water with you (I often do anyways because that's my habit of over prepping). I also swear by TUMS. It helps prevent muscle cramps for me, so I'll wrap some up in ziplock bags, inside another ziplock. Not perfectly water proof, but rather useful. My husband gets those energy gels from the running store and uses those, but I've managed to do it without before. HOWEVER, it really does help and I say if you can stand the taste, go for it.

SUNSCREEN. Just... trust me. Sunscreen. And advil for when you're done. And if you have to drive and there are no showers, get baby wipes. SO HANDY.

Week 1 RECAP

Actually off to a good start! It was a pretty busy week, but than again, all weeksl lately are. The reason why this was particularly busy week was because of the first few days. Monday and tuesday i wasn't able to do any form of workout. On mondayevening we celebrated my dad's birthday (who sadly passed away a couple of years ago. On tuesdayevening i got free tickets for a soccer match in a large stadium. I'm not such a soccer fan, but once in a while (when something like this comes up) i like to go and watch. So wednesday the first day to workout, i went running late in the evening (wife had to work late) and felt really good. Good pace, very tired when i got home. Though trouble sleeping afterwards. Thursday crossfti grouplesson. Friday, a packed "free"-day with going to my moms, and doing groceries for the BBQ later that evening. No beer that evening so a win, but did have some homemade sangria from the misses, tasted surprisingly good. I'm no wine drinker at all. So no (time for) workout on friday, same on saturday. Slept in, did some paperwork, in the afternoon went to a party (again no beer, took some willpower) in the evening played some poker with some friends (checked the lifequest, and again no beer, AND some profit!) Sunday started with running a new PR on the 10K. After that the rest of the day spent in a indoor playground (again no beer... this seems to be getting a thing...)!

As for the stats:

Week 1:

Quest 1: (Excercise): 2 running sessions and one crossfit group lesson makes 3 excercises. Not the 4 i set off on my quest, but i will make up for it in the rest of the Challenge!

Quest 2: (Eating): All servings were normal. No bingeing and ate quite mindfully. No treats, sweets, that sort of stuff. No sauces with the BBQ just meat and salad. Some fastfood at the party on saturday, but only 2/3's of what i (could) normally eat, and as healthy as possible. Sunday it was pizza, just because is felt like, we were at a place where you can get pizza pasta or pancakes.

Quest 3: (Drinking): Monday was a small cheatday, we had some family over we don't see very often, so i had some beer. Looking back i could have done without. Rest of the week was beer free. Including the BBQ, party, pokering and indoor playground (the playground for the dads is the beermenu ;) ) Though i cheated a bit with the homemade sangria (rules or meant for bending :D )

Lifequest: (KEEP.IT.FUN): Crossed this one of the list by having a long awaited pokernight with the guys. I was the big winner so double Yay!!!

I always love being the big winner at poker. But I don't play it against my friends because that's just mean of me :P I can't quite count cards, but I can do the probability math in my head for it and often end up killing it. Me and black jack is pretty much a great combination, and I have been carefully watched at casino's before because of it.

Having fun is awesome :D

Yeah! It was the assassins jukebox, full of metal and video game music. I asked Hazard, but they quit because the posts slowed down. If we revive enough interest though... Lately I've been working out to classical stuff, which has been an interesting shift since I'm focusing on mindful movement. :D

Wife had to work late and kids were at the inlaws, so i joined them for dinner. Did some stuff on the Rebellion waited till the wife got there and went home. Thanx to the Pre-Mini-Micro-Challenge i did get a workout consisting of, squats, pull ups, ohp, and some bicep and tricep work. A not too shabby 500 squats were done. Nothing very interesting rest of the day.

Quest 1: (Excercise): 4/32

Quest 2: (Eating): Cheat days: 0/6

Quest 3: (Drinking): Cheat days: Small: 1/9 || Big: 0/3

Lifequest: (KEEP.IT.FUN): 1/6

Another day at work, another day of eating at the Inlaws, kids were over there. Was late for the Kickfun grouplesson, during the vacation time they have a slightly different schedule, this week Kickfun was 15 minutes earlier. So i was 5 minutes late. But the good side to this was i got a pole to myself... So everytime the other guys and girls could alternate the pole i could do the excercises double time! It was not me who thought that would be a good idea, it was the instructor, payback for being late. So by the time we were done i was completely drenched. And somehow i think he knew i had done 500 Squats yesterday (and another 160 during the day) one of the recurring excercises was the: "always fun" squat - low kick - squat - low kick. Which we did 3 cycles in total...

Since the kids will be away on wednesday the wife and i decided we should take advantage of this situation. We are gonna have a nice dinner, just the two of us. Probably at a new italian restaurant (which somehow doesnt serve, pasta or pizza, apparently).

Week 2 Tuesday:

Quest 1: (Excercise): 5/32

Quest 2: (Eating): Cheat days: 0/6

Quest 3: (Drinking): Cheat days: Small: 1/9 || Big: 0/3

Lifequest: (KEEP.IT.FUN): 1/6

An Italian place trying to avoid stereotypical Italian food. .. interesting

My first thought as well. Different regions of Italy have varying degrees of both...perhaps their influence is from the north?

So eventually we didnt went to the italian. It seemed a bit overpriced and went to a place we have been before. I had a sirloin steak, which was okay. I have had much better (black forest germany, and when i make my own on the BBQ). Even went mindful with the eating, okay the steak was just brutal meat intake, but no dessert and no beer. So a small win there. All in all a really nice evening with the misses. Just having the kids away for a day really opens up your eyes on how much you do for them. It was so quiet and i had so much time doing what i wanted. It really shows kids do take up quite a bit of time and energy ;)

Though i was glad when they were brought home. The youngest was vast asleep, so we changed her in her PJ's and brought her to bed. My son was awake, but very sleepy from sleeping in the car. I carried him upstairs and put him in bed, talked a bit about what he did that day, and his eyes were closing all the time, so i just gave him a kiss and said goodnight. Only one hour i also hit the sack, trying to catch up on some sleep.

No excercising was done as i wanted to make it a full rest day! But some wins on the mindful eating and no beer quests!

Week 2 Wednesday:

Quest 1: (Excercise): 5/32

Quest 2: (Eating): Cheat days: 0/6

Quest 3: (Drinking): Cheat days: Small: 1/9 || Big: 0/3

Steak sounds better than Italian anyways!  Well...except for pizza but that's because I haven't had pizza in a long...long time (long time being about 2 weeks).  Mmmm pizza.

Awesome that you had a nice evening with the misses and yeah reading up on the stuff you do with the kids...oof.  I'm definitely preparing myself for the loss of free time once the hubs and I decide to start the cloning project.

Awesome that you had no dessert or beer!  WOO!  And now I want steak in Germany.  Yummy.
