This is the challenge through the end of summer! Whatttt! Craziness. Building off of some things I learned last challenge, I've decided on a different sort of set of goals. Lifting and gymnastics will continue as per usual with additional glute accessories in my lifting days and a continued focus on press handstands for cast to handstands at gymnastics, but these goals are going to be trying to break me out of the schedules I like to set for myself.

And I won't be afraid to call myself out when I'm slacking and expect you guys to do the same.

Goal 1. Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent
rupaul-wink-drag-race-gif-2013.gif

*Get out and do at least two fitness things each week that aren't just lifting or gymnastics. (Must be in different categories. Bonus points for getting a full set of 4!)

-Hiking, rucking, going out of the way to walk for errands (at least 2 miles)

-November Project, GymnasticsWOD workout

-Outdoor crossfit, circuit workout of some sort

-Yoga class, outdoor yoga, yoga video at home

Lifting and gymnastics are my two loves right now, of course, but I want to be working in some other fitness activities in the coming weeks. This goal is to help address my weaknesses (cardio endurance), to get outdoors more and enjoy the summertime, and to prep for our vacation at the end of August. I need some SPICE in this life.

Goal 2. Love yourself
tumblr_mved1iKomo1qlvwnco1_r1_400.gif

*5+ minutes of self-care (sun salutations, nail-painting, callus maintenance, foam rolling, etc.) per day

*45+ minutes per week

While I am good at giving myself care in the form of fitness and food, I definitely could stand to benefit from actually paying attention to other needs like taking care of my visual appearance better, taking care of my hands, and really doing a better job with foam-rolling. Something simple like sun salutations will count toward this as well. While I'd like to make a daily habit, I've also set a goal for the week in total as just five minutes per day may not be enough for the whole week.

Goal 3. 5 Gs, Please
9f6c5cc3ab0e5cf88c34925713c53b8b.jpg

*Defeat the prosnacktination habit of doom with a basic, visual points system on the fridge

+1 point for every adulting task done between getting home and eating dinner

-1 point for every snack eaten between getting home and eating dinner

*Each week, try to get more points than the previous week

This is going to be my new approach to try to tackle my habit of snacking when I get home from work or practice. I think it should be applicable to the weekends as well, as I go out and do errands and it's between those errands and making food for dinner that the habit really rears its head. Adulting is up to my own interpretation, but includes: dishes, laundry, folding laundry, unpack boxes, taking out trash, clearing out kitty litter, cleaning up desk, wiping down the counters, etc. #GAMIFICATION

Goal 4. Back rolls?!?! (Cinnamon rolls!)
giphy.gif

*Revive the blog beyond the Bundt Bakers Club posts

*12 posts to the blog before the challenge ends

*Only 6 desserts can count toward this challenge goal

I really do want to have a more active blog, and with the decrease in snacking from G3, I should be making more substantial dinners that will be worth posting about! Plus, I'm using up the weekly CSA and should be making sure to feature those veggies on the blog rather than just cookies, cookies, cake, etc.

Also, in full disclosure, I found the GIF I was trying to find yesterday for Goal 4 so I replaced it. I COULDN'T RESIST.

I am looking at the timeline for this challenge and I realize that the last week will be when I am in Iceland, so I'm going to start NOW to get the full six weeks in. I would have started yesterday, but wasn't really paying attention to the dates as they applied to my life. I'll probably come up with a few things to try to focus on for the formal Week 6 while I am gone, but I want to be through this challenge before then.

Actually, part of the reason we're going is because I was able to find flights from Boston -> Reykjavik -> Dublin -> Boston for ~$550 per person because of a new discount airline based out of Iceland that is now doing flights to the east coast of the US. We'll see how the flights themselves go to determine whether or not it was worth it to save the money!

We have heard that costs WITHIN Iceland are quite high (for food, drink, rentals, lodging, etc.) so that is where I'm expecting to see all the money go and why I ultimately decided not to go to other gymnastics camp held in Tennessee next month. Gotta have that spending money once we get there!

Ah wow, I've wanted to go to Iceland for a while, and there are quite a lot of good deals apparently that involve stopping over at Reykjavik and exploring the crazy country. Enjoy it and I'll try not to be excessively jealous :P

Also, subbing for all the usual Raptron things :) If everyone did as much cool stuff as you the world would be a much more exciting place!

so many awesome things!!

i LOVE the snacking goal set up. great thinking. also encourages positive reinforcement with the points setup. have you thought about applying an irl prize if you get XX points?

let me know when you do those extra fitness-y things so i can piggy back yer plans! there's so many good beach yoga things this time of year and of course all the hiking.

i've known so many people in our area that have gone or are going to iceland this year! my closest friends just went about a month ago and ended up renting a "camping type" van and driving around the country. i imagine this was one of the cheaper ways to see the sights. let me know if you want moar info :D

@CM -- Ooh, I would definitely love to chat about more deets re: Iceland. And yes, beach yoga?! Tell me more! I'm going to the Esplanade tonight for some riverfront yoga that runs every week in the summer (which I'm sure will be packed AF, but is pretty close to my work so definitely worth checking out), but haven't really investigated much else. And hikiiing! How about one or two of the weekends in August? I still vote for a NH hiking trip during one of those and maybe a more local excursion...?

I will consider some kind of reward for a certain amount of points on the snack goal. Hmm!

Day 0.2

Picked up my CSA veggies and headed over to the gym. Had some lingering body tiredness from the exhausting weekend, as well as a minor case of the I-don't-wannas, but these pretty much disappeared when I got there.

5 minute bike warm-up

Stretches and kicks

Bench

5 x 45#

5 x 65#

5 x 85#

5 x 105#

5 x 3 x 110#

3 x 8 x 95#

Squats

5 x 45#

5 x 95#

5 x 115#

5 x 135#

3 x 8 x 155# <-- Everything was feeling a bit off, especially my hip, so I went for a lil volume over heaviness

Front squats:

3 x 145#

3 x 145#

2 x 145# <-- failed 3rd rep; just got completely stuck on the bottom, which felt like a technique fail. I should film a form check on these sometime, now that I am actually doing them with some regularity and want to up weight.

5 x 135#

Pull-ups: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 (between sets of things)

Lat raises: 3 x 10 w/15# DBs

Bench leg lifts: 3 sets of 10 regular + 20 obliques

Self-care was some eyebrow maintenance, though there is plenty more to do on that front. The mirror in my new apartment's bathroom has nice vanity lighting so I can see enough of my own eyebrow hairs to take care of it on my own, maybe. I may still get them done because it's so much faster. 3 snacks between getting home and dinner, damnnn. But I did also unload the dishwasher + unload and sort laundry before dinner was done, so only -1 points. I'm hoping for big positives, but it's going to be a hard habit to break, I can already tell. Once I get the scoreboard on the fridge, I think the visual reminder will do wonders.

Bonus Fitness: 0/2

Love yourself: 5/45 minutes

Procrastisnacking: -1 [3 snacks, 2 adulting]

Blog: 0/2
