Miw-Sher Builds Stuff

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I was, like many others taken by surprise by the new dates of the next challenge, so a longer introduction will be coming. For now, here are my goals for the next 6 8 weeks! I am taking a page out of Mr_Willes and DarK_RaideR's book and doing an 8 week challenge to make up for two weeks during which I will be… on a ship. And by ship, I mean an old schooner.

This one, specifically:

*DETAILS TO COME*

I have never properly been on a sailboat before, and I am both excited and terrified. Hopefully this will not turn into too much of a catastrophe.

Anyhow, quick-goals:

Quest 1: Building Strength
Quest 2: Building Stamina
Quest 3: Building Flexibility

Life Quest: Building Perspective

Longer explanation:

The following re to be done over the next 8 weeks, starting now and ending a week after the challenge.  The reason for this is that I am not going to be doing any of my fitness goals on the ship. That is just not going to happen and I figure I will be getting enough of a workout anyhow. The only exception is the drawing challenge – I would be a fool to not get the occasion to get some proper, real-life references of a ship.

Overarching Challenge Goal: Work towards attaining a base level of fitness

Quest 1: Building Strength (+ 3 STR/+1 CON/ +1 WIS)

Aim: One pull-up (long-term). Workouts are going fine, but while I am increasing in strength it just kind of happen, and this is something that I know will come and bite me in the future. I actually already see it with push-ups – I am seriously lagging behind on those, most likely because I started out with something I could barely do.

To counter this, I will be working out 3-4 times a week (every other day) and logging my progression after every workout, being critical about the exercises I am doing/adapting them to my needs.

Grading: A – 24 workouts B – 18 workouts C – 12 workouts

Workouts so far: 5

Quest 2: Building Stamina (+3 STA/ +2 CON)

Aim: Run 5K without stopping! Steps: Finishing the C25K programme. I am nearly finished with it (Week 7), and while I expect to be a bit set back by the two weeks on sea, finishing it by the end of the challenge should be a very achievable goal.

To achieve this, I will be running at least 2 times a week following the C25K programme.

Due to a foot injury, I won't be following the C25K programme anymore. Instead, after browsing a bit on swimming, I will be working on getting in 10 swimming sessions over the next 3 weeks. I will then figure out what my goals are for the last week.

Grading: A – 10 sessions B – 7 sessions C - 5 sessions

Sessions so far: 1

Quest 3: Building Flexibility (+2 DEX)

Aim: Touch my toes. Again. I can already feel the benefits of my daily yoga practice, but I want to focus a bit more on my hamstrings and hips.

To achieve this, I will be doing this at least once a week (in addition to my daily yoga practice):

Grading: A – 18 sessions B – 12 sessions C – 6 workouts

Sessions so far: 4

Life Quest: Building Perspective (+2 WIS / +1 CHA)

Aim: Draw. Better. Perspective. If you followed my previous challenge, you will have seen some drawings. Those are all nice and dandy, but the one thing I seriously need to tackle is drawing space and perspective.

To achieve this, I will do at least one set of perspective drills (like these ) once a week and post them on ConceptArt.org, since it's time I start using my Sketchbook there instead of spamming these forums with my drawings. ^^

Grading: A - 8 drills (or boat sketches) B - 6 drills C - 4 drills

Why can't you spam these forums as well?  :D I want to see all the drawings.

But that's great! Especially love your side quest!

(And sailing is awesome! Hope you won't get seasick.  :))

Haha! Ok, I will spam these forums as well then. ^^

I do hope that as well! I have been on a boat before and haven't had any issues, but this is a completely new level!

The company we are going with mailed us a diagram of the riggings, I just cannot keep it in my mind though. :S

Yay a fellow doyogawithme buddy. Mind if I join you for this challenge? I too will be working out my insanely thight body with the video you linked above (actually im doing the beginner to intermediate series but this is one of my favorites, hits all the tight muscles). Also I want details on your boat trip! Are you going to Maine? My family has gone on several Victory Chimes trips and they have loved it. Someday maybe I will get to go too in the mean time I will live vicariously through them lol.

Yeah spam here too. I'm always so in awe when i see what people can draw or build (see Jakkals at the Druids with his forging). Looks like a solid challenge. Good luck, i will try to check in regularly!

Wohoo! Where can I find this forging thread you are talking about? That sounds awesome.

Of course not! You are more than welcome to join me. :) Are you doing a challenge? I can come and cheer you on there if you wish. :D

And not at all, I will be leaving from Copenhagen and sailing to the Netherlands. :) It is also not a standard sailing trip, but part of a fairtransport project that aims at doing emission-free transports. In this case, of whiskey, if I recall correctly. So I will be working my ass off. ^^

following along for all of the awesome!   :D

Yaaaay! :D

Jakkals over at the Druids, last challenge he started forging a set of knives. I think that is so cool. This is his thread.

Eh, that link brings me to a discussion by Orpheus about being sick… :P

Found his thread though. Those knives look gorgeous indeed! :o

Alright, I'll be posting. ^^

The drills are turning out to be a much bigger nuisance than I thought, so I will lump them all together in a big post at the end of the week. In the meanwhile, I finally finished my new avatar:

Glad you all like the drawing! I was actually really hesitant to post it here as there is plenty I am not too happy with. It's a major thing i need to start working on though, so I figured I'd forced myself to put it out there anyways. :)

Nice, the hair reminds me of mine a lot! Do you care for critics? (beware, I'll be tough on those  )

Please do! I feel that is what i miss most from home practice. There are all the tricks like looking at the drawing in a mirror, through a window and upside-down, but nothing beats a second pair of eyes.
