MAIN QUEST: Establish healthy habits and make permanent changes. Because after a year on NF, I’m still relying on these challenges to stay on top of being healthy, and it’s time to really start solidifying these things as real and true habits once and for all. QUEST 1: DON’T EAT LIKE USAGI [+4 CON] For Usagi, every day is a cheat day. I, fortunately, have better self-control and only have cheat days once a week, but even once a week is too much. Getting rid of cheat days altogether isn’t a sustainable practice for me personally, but I also need to stop with once a week cheat days. So for this challenge, I will only allow myself one cheat day every two weeks. For my purposes, a cheat day is a day in which I throw caution to the wind, don’t track my calories, and eat all of the things. In order for something not to count as a cheat day, I need to log every single calorie consumed regardless of how many calories I actually ate. The eventual goal is to allow myself cheat days only once a month, or only on holidays, but baby steps! A = 0-3 cheat days | B = 4 cheat days | D = 5 cheat days | F = 6+ cheat days HOTARU BONUS! For every day that I eat at least 75g of protein, I will reward myself $5 for free-spending money in Cancun (if earned in Weeks 1-4) or Japan (if earned in Weeks 5-6). QUEST 2: THE BEAUTY AND GRACE OF REI [+2 DEX] I miss dance class terribly and I need to get back into it badly. Problem is, August is a weird time for many dance studios as they come out of summer schedules and into fall schedules, but that shouldn’t stop me, and it won’t! So, once a week, I will go to a jazz or tap class. EDIT: I will dance 60 min/week Ideally both, but it’s dependent on the schedules of the studios. The week I’m in Cancun is exempt. because I’m about 99.99% certain there won’t be dance studios available to me to complete this quest. If for any reason a jazz or tap class isn’t available, I will count any other dance class or 60 minutes worth of at-home practice. A = 60+ minutes | B = 45-59 minutes | C = 30-44 minutes | D = 15-29 minutes | F = 0-14 minutes MICHIRU BONUS! For every dedicated extra 15 minutes spent working on dance, I will earn myself $5 towards Cancun (Weeks 1-4) and Japan (Weeks 5-6). If I manage to make it to a jazz or tap class, that's an extra $10. QUEST 3: BE TOUGH LIKE MAKOTO [+3 STR, +2 DEX] I’ve always admired Mako-chan for her strength, and while I don’t necessarily need to be so strong as to be able to lift youma over my head (though that would be cool), strength is something I do want to continue to work on since it’ll help me in all aspects of my life. And so I will do strength training 3x/week. A necessary part of this regimen will be to cooldown with 10-15 minutes of dedicated flexibility because injuries suck, and I want to be able to do the splits because I am so close I can taste it. A strength training session will not count if I don’t finish with deep flexibility work. Strength: A = 3x/week | B = 2x/week | C = 1x/week | F = 0x/week HARUKA BONUS! Since I do plan to continue running races but don’t want to overwhelm myself with too many quests, I will earn myself $5 for every run I go on during the quest towards Cancun (Weeks 1-4) and Japan (Weeks 5-6). Races count. LIFE QUEST 1: RESPONSIBLE LIKE AMI [+2 WIS] I need to get better at adulting, especially in the realm of finances. The past few years, I’ve been coasting because I make really good money that I never had to actually worry about it, but between expensive vacations, moving, and getting closer to my 30s, it’s time to grow up a little bit. Therefore, I’m going to make and maintain a budget, making sure every Sunday that it is up to date with every last purchase and transaction I made during the past week. Pass = Budget up-to-date and accurate | Fail = Didn’t even touch it SETSUNA BONUS! Any surplus I have in my budget at the end of August will be put towards free-spending money in Japan. (And yes, I’m including all this bonus money business into my budget!) LIFE QUEST 2: BARRELING TOWARDS STARDOM WITH MINAKO [+2 CHA] With the closing of Cabaret during Week 2 of this challenge and with no new shows lined up (nor am I wanting to do anything until September anyway), August is promising to be a dead time in which post-show depression and the fears and anxieties of never being cast again will hover over me. Instead of moping, I want to be proactive and keep working towards improving my acting skills! That’s why 3x/week, I will do something productive towards my acting career. It can be reading a play, seeing a live play/musical, researching monologues, working on audition stuff, going to a workshop, whatever. Looking up and signing up for auditions will not count; attending auditions and callbacks will count. A = 3x/week | B = 2x/week | C = 1x/week | F = 0x/week SEIYA, TAIKI, AND YATEN BONUS! If I do something towards my acting career more than 3x/week, I will reward myself an additional $5 per extra day of work. Doing the Legend of Zelda workout series last challenge was a breath of fresh air and taught me new exercises that I like and want to continue to pursue, so instead of doing Stronglifts I've concocted my own workout regimen that I'm hoping covers all of my bases. The Hogwarts mini also challenged me to pursue new exercises that are now part of my regular plan. I totally understand the need for better 'adulting' because I'm 28 (29 in November and being 30 sometimes seems too scary) but that is cool that you grew up in Japan. I'm about the same age; I passed the 28.5 mark a few days ago so I'm officially less than a year and a half away from 30, eek! Adulting, it's a thing I need to do because this is me: As for growing up in Japan, my dad was in the Air Force, so it was more like growing up on a military base in Japan. You know all those bonus quests I have in there? Used to be somehow included in the attached quests themselves in some way. ;;;;;;;;;; Then I decided that I'm too ambitious for my own good and I need to settle down or I'm going to burn out again. So this is actually a pretty tame challenge, at least to me it seems tame. I'm hoping that I can keep up with everyone on the forums better this time around, too! Last challenge was absolute chaos for me in my personal life, but things are quiet now and I want to do what I can to make sure it stays quiet for a bit. That's brilliant and definitely neat to build up spending money for a fun trip! I feel you on the budget one. I'm getting better at saving money and also lowering my debt, but man I still love splurging when I get the chance so being a responsible adult sucks. Blah. The strength training goal is awesome and the cheat less goal is very good and something I tried last challenge and for the most part did okay, but alas, it was still once a week where I was eating not the greatest (though not completely mindlessly I realized). Blah, that's another toughie! Awesome Minako goal too! I really like hearing about how your acting career is going and all your shows so that's gonna be cool to follow along with . Also, all these Sailor Moon challenges I've been seeing has kinda made me feel like I'm gonna have to make a Sailor Moon theme challenge too . Though probably focus on the Outer Scouts. blkhole24601 Posted July 22, 2015 Author Report Share Posted July 22, 2015 Interim Mid-Week Thoughts:Quest 1: Cancun is always on my mind, and for Week 4 I think my calorie goal will simply be to put MFP on maintenance and allow myself to eat back ALL of the calories burned from exercise. I'll still probably gain fat by doing this, but I'm on vacation, and as long as I continue to log, I'm not breaking any new habits still too delicate to leave alone for a week. Also, I foresee a few days during the first couple of weeks where this whole "no cheat days" thing is going to be a challenge... but that's why they call these 6-week activities challenges. I believe in me, I can do this! Quest 2: Ahahahahahahaha so thanks to my weird schedule for the first couple of weeks of the challenge and the Cancun vacation, I won't be able to make it to a tap or jazz class until probably Week 5? I'm still researching my options to try to make this work. I think I'll try out a modern or contemporary class and call it good enough if I can't find anything else, but I've noticed some conditioning and skills (i.e., turns/leaps, etc.) classes being offered, too, that I'll just go ahead and say they will count, too. Again, continuing to do research, but this quest is going to be weird until after I get back from Cancun, I think. Quest 3: Not even worried about this a little bit as of now, though my designed strength routine that I started on Monday gave me a nice set of DOMS I'm still dealing with today. Can't tell if DOMS happened because I did a good job designing the program, a poor job, or simply that I haven't done any sort of dedicated strength work in a week and a half, or all of the above. Life Quest 1: I have a plan for how I'm going to pursue the budget quest. July will be a "in-retrospect" budget to help me plan for August, and August will be the "as I go along" thing. This week I'm going to explore different formats for said budget and start inputting some numbers. Life Quest 2: Another thing I'm not even too worried about. I'm being pickier with auditions and there's a part of me that wants to not do any professional productions for the rest of 2015 anyway and just focus on taking classes, but we'll see. I've dropped out of two upcoming auditions since I didn't have a "FUCK YEAH" feeling about them anyway -- so many hesitations, and it's better to follow your gut. The other two I'm actually interested in and excited to do. You should come back from it feeling at least as energetic as when you left for it, yes? Quest 3's DOMS has an easy explanation--this is your first session. You have yet to adapt to the new program, so DOMS will be the most severe now. In a few weeks it should simmer down. Life Quest 2 - I know nothing of acting career moves, but especially as it is not your primary income, following your gut and doing what your passionate about just makes good sense. It's odd, but I can throw in an extra workout session (because it's fun and I don't have to think too hard), but when it comes to nutrition numbers, figuring out how much less I need to eat, then how much MORE I need to eat so I don't murder people out of starvation, etc..oof. It's tough though last challenge I think helped out a lot in figuring what my body needs to still lose a little but also keep me well nourished. I also agree with needing challenges to just help keep track of things. It's good to have a constant goal in mind. You should come back from it feeling at least as energetic as when you left for it, yes? Quest 3's DOMS has an easy explanation--this is your first session. You have yet to adapt to the new program, so DOMS will be the most severe now. In a few weeks it should simmer down. Life Quest 2 - I know nothing of acting career moves, but especially as it is not your primary income, following your gut and doing what your passionate about just makes good sense. Over-committing = bad. Yep to all three of those points! I'm also relying on starsapart to get me to the gym since I know I can't rely on Tyro to help me out there. Idk. The other two are with companies I love, respect, and is also loved and respected by the Denver theatre community, plus the shows sound beyond awesome. I don't have much of a shot at either of those but hey, if I don't try, the answer will always be no, right? Anything with food and diet always scare me. It's odd, but I can throw in an extra workout session (because it's fun and I don't have to think too hard), but when it comes to nutrition numbers, figuring out how much less I need to eat, then how much MORE I need to eat so I don't murder people out of starvation, etc..oof. It's tough though last challenge I think helped out a lot in figuring what my body needs to still lose a little but also keep me well nourished. I also agree with needing challenges to just help keep track of things. It's good to have a constant goal in mind. I don't think I'm at the point where I can "bulk" quite yet! I don't know exactly what my bf% is, but I want to get to about 20-21% before I allow myself to go into full maintenance mode. I'm close, I know this now, especially since getting whacked in my hip bone reminds me that I don't have a lot of cushion between my skin and bone there anymore! I'm thinking about the grab bag style for next challenge since every third challenge I tend to get burned out. Simple, two line piece of code, but if I can make it more advance and also to give certain percentages based on how I feel that day...hmmmm...but will I have time?! That is the eternal question. I'll have to check out that tumblr when I get home (it's blocked at my work). It could be the same one that points out all of the horrible animation mistakes in the series. Yeah I heard there were ending it with the R Arc and...I mean...I know that the whole romance and star crossed lovers type deal is a major part of Sailor Moon. I get it. I really, really, really do. But when you're remaking a series to be faithful to a manga that does tend to jump from plot point to plot point without giving a lot of time to flesh characters and you decide to REMOVE or CHANGE the plot points that pertain to a character, pushing them FURTHER AND FURTHER into a one-dimensional background...you're making it worse. I couldn't make it to callbacks, and I talked to the stage manager at another audition who told me that they were figuring things out about the handful of us who couldn't make it to callbacks. Been waiting, heard nothing, decided I was no longer being considered until new email that I just received: I'm apparently still being considered and they'll let us know one way or another etc. ... if I get rejected from a show I didn't even audition for, I'm going to laugh. If I get cast, I'm going to be so confused. Either way, win/win and much amusement will abound. And you can't measure all those activities, so at a bare minimum, maintenance is sensible. Like Crappy worse. According to online calculators, which are so much not accurate I know and I need a better method, I'm at about 23-24% body fat? Though based on last year's bf% measurement and that I am smaller and more muscular, I'm probably at that 20-21% range. Idkkkkkkkk. I'm quicker to believe 23-24%, maybe 22% at the least, than being already at 20-21% but no matter what, I know I'm in the universally accepted Fitness range on the bf% scale which quite honestly, I should be happy enough with that by itself. Besides, if this graphic is to be believed, ultimately, bf% is another number that means little when it comes to aesthetics. But that's why there's no calorie restriction for this challenge for me, in the end. This is the challenge of experimentation on the calorie front. Yassssssss grab bag challenge! Still too soon for me to declare if I'll do it next go around, but again, it all depends! Yep, it's the one that points out all of the horrible animation, though they do point out a bunch of the crap character "development" and storytelling and writing, too. I do get a laugh whenever they talk about how useless the Senshi are, and then I get sad whenever they point out that in Crystal, Usagi doesn't actually care about her friends one lick when in the 90's anime it was her romance with Mamoru that took a backseat to her relationship with her friends, and that the 90's anime focused more on girl power and the power of friendship (well, that couldn't have sounded cheesier ) than anything else. I haven't read the manga in ages, though, but I do remember that the rest of the Senshi had actual personalities there versus Crystal, too. :| It's just. Bad. I stopped watching, though I almost feel like finishing out of a sense of completion. And the tumblr also loves to point out that the opening song is WAY WAY too good for Crystal. Also, according to this post (August 17, 2014):Current Weight: 123 lbsCurrent BFP (scale): 30.3Current BFP (Navy): 28%Current BFP (YMCA): 31%Current Waist: 28.5"Current Hips: 36.5"Current Neck: 11.75" Less than a week later (August 22, 2014), I did a fitness assessment where a body fat caliper test was administered and was told that my bf% was 21%. The Navy bf% and the YMCA bf% gives me 24% and 28% respectively based on my measurements over the past week. What would the fitness assessment tell me today if I took it? Maybe it's time for an appointment. I should definitely do it before I leave for Cancun. The takeaway? My body composition is definitely very different since I joined NF (btw- my Nerdiversary was last week! I missed it because tech week). I don't know what my bf% exactly is, but if the Navy calculator and the YMCA calculator overestimates and the skinfold caliper test likely underestimates... I don't know, I might be where I want to be already. At the very least, this is stunning proof to me that I'm more muscular because even though I'm smaller I'm not that much lighter -- although poking around my thighs and triceps tell me that already. What this means is simply this: I need to stop obsessing. I need to stop looking at the mirror so intently whenever one is available and only use it to make sure everything from the neck up is presentable. I need to stop Google image searching for examples of different bf% types. I need to stop looking at pictures of myself for longer than necessary. I need to stop comparing my body to everyone else's (I mean, I'm doing better on this point than I used to in that when I catch myself doing it, I remind myself to stop, so that's progress). I just need to stop finding reasons to hate my body and love every last inch of it and the overall picture. Because you know what? I AM hot. I AM healthy. And I AM exactly where I want and need to be. There does come a point where you stop obsessing. For me it started when I saw an old beach pic from a time when I was not happy with my body and in retrospect would have loved to have it. That was when I realized one day when I'm like 70 or 80 I'll look at pics from now and won't understand at all how I could not be happy with this. And I would be upset about the time wasted with beating myself up over a healthy, fine body (even if I would never be a model shape). So I decided to start appreciating it now already. Took a little while but this perspective helped me and all the dancing and other fun helped and now I am most of the time really happy to be me in this body. Not all the time but most of the time and that is just sooooooo nice You probably have other perspectives that help you and from what I saw over your last challenges it looks to me you are doing so much better already, are on a great way here. Not only have you made strides to become the fittest person you can be, you're also well on the way to your happiest self, as well. A 25 or 26" waist is just fine, and so is a 24", but remember: nobody but you will really know the difference. Now's the time to focus on what you want to do--what new skills do you want to master, old ones you want to take up a notch--rather than what do you want to look like.
