 not eating everything I can see just because it's new.......

My ex has a horrible time with this.  To a certain degree, I have this issue also.  If an item is 'limited edition' or a 'new' version of the same thing, it's bought right then and there, whether or not it even seems like it will be good.  Not sure how you would be able to do this, but if I'm somewhere where there is a lot of new items, I purposly don't get any and survey the place; then go back and pick the 1 and only thing that I need to try above all others. Let's say I'm at a farmer's market and I see 10 new items, I'll check out each stand and then double-back and pick up the spinach fritata thing that looked best.

 

 

 

This thread makes me want to bust our the World of Warcraft Taverns of Azeroth soundtrack.

I actually tend to feel an Age of Empires soundtrack instead.

I'm on a bit of a downward spiral at the moment, really hungry ALL THE TIME, this week's migraine is just kicking in and it's my week between the pill so my oestragen is dropping steadlily, not a good week and I'm considering a big F it all until I get back from holiday.

 

That's completely up to you.  Would it make you feel worse if you said 'f*ck it' now and waited, or sticking to this and feeling like you're backsliding while out?  Whichever way feels better for you is the way to go.  Also, why are you hungry all the time? Usually I need healthy fats if that's happening to me.

I am a little bored, I'm trying to have a total rest from work because I'm a bit burnt out and not doing great stuff. I'm having to wean off work though (I'm self employed and I'm a designer so a lot of what I do is just thinking about stuff). I'm trying to slow right down and not think work thoughts.

I had 2 eggs, kale, courgette, mushrooms and tomatos cooked in coconut oil for breakfast. That usually lasts me until around 11 but today I was hungry again half an hour later. I tried a pint of water but I was still hungry. I think there is lots going on with my body right now - hormones, high blood pressure, low blood sugar........

All I can do at the moment is take a day at a time and try to make the best decisions I can. The migraine is just starting and that is probably going to take over my life for a day or two so it's just a matter of plodding through. I know sugar will make me feel much worse, as will alcohol but carbs are a tricky one, they are instantly comforting.

Sorry, bit moany today, it will pass.

Is anyone else having a bit of a pre challenge binge fest? I've not gone totally over the top but there has been ice cream, cake, bread..........

So I'm starting 21 day fix tomorrow....I've totally binged on all the things this week in preperation. Ice cream, bacon and cheese covered potato ole's, pancakes....all the pancakes.

Sorry, not going to happen. However, I learned two new words yesterday, Smombie (a smartphone-zombie, we use the same words in german so no translation needed) and my absolute favorite: Alpha-Kevin. I don't know whether it's the same overseas but here Kevin is pretty much synonymous for stupid or simpleton because the name seems to be liked in some social classes more than in others (sorry to all the smart Kevins out there). So the Alpha-Kevin is the leader of the bunch, the perfect way to insult someone without them getting the insult. (This sounds really mean when I type it out :( )

Hahahaha!!! I know a few Kevins. Now I will call them Alpha- Kevin hahaha

Heyla Adventurers!  

 

The recent Minis challenge sparked some conversation about how some Adventurers are having a hard time connecting to people within our class.  I know from experience how hard it can be to get through your challenge when you feel like people don't care about your progress.  I also know that we have an awesome, active community here within the Adventurers, full of people who would love to be cheerleaders.  But because our class is so big, it can be hard to find people with similar interests, or recognize people who aren't getting support.

 

So, since we're halfway through the challenge and some people are struggling with motivation, I wanted to invite everyone to get the conversation going here, and share a little bit about yourselves.  If you want, post about your interests or your challenge goals so that other Adventurers can start meeting new faces.

 

I'll kick us off - I'm Yvonne, I'm in my late 20s and my challenge is mostly focussed on weight loss.  I'm in the Adventurers class because I love a little bit of everything: hiking, biking, strength training, and yoga are all part of my challenge goals.  I'm a web developer by day (Javascript and CSS all day long!) and by night like to play board games, Skyrim, and read fantasy novels.  I'm also a huge Harry Potter nerd, and I'm super excited to be visiting the Harry Potter theme park in November.

Heyla Adventurers!

What a great idea! Im E. I am an automotive engineer. I am not the typucal nerd. I know of and can follow most conversationa about nerdy topics but have little to add. But if you want to talk engineering, cars, remodeling, gardening, history, or archeology I can go all day long. I like to say i am an extrovert trapped in the body of an introvert becuase i really do like talking to people and have a crazy sense of humor but always pull up short and come across as disconnected and no fun. It is something I want to work on because I feel very lonely. I have always been a lone wolf but I am tired of not having a good group of friends I hang out with.

I came to the adventurers because I love adventure and am in an exploratory mode in terms of figuring out what I like/can do fitness wise. I love the people around here and seeing the crazy conversations on some of these threads. But I also feel the frustration that has been expressed this week, and feel a little left out myself. I know I cant expect others to pay attention to me if I am not paying attention to them so I am trying to be more friendly in hopes others will return the favor. Anyways, I am glad to have met you, and I am trying to be more social so if you see me lurking around try coaxing me out of the shadows.

Hi, nice to meet you!  :)  Being a homeowner, I probably spend more time thinking about remodeling and gardening than is healthy, so I totally get you there!  And I'm the same way in terms of introvert/extrovert - I worry that I come off as aloof because I have a hard time opening up to new people, or that I seem fake when I'm trying to be outgoing.  It's especially hard on message boards, when I often feel like I'm butting into conversations.

I'm Lisa, I'm a self employed graphic and website designer who specialises in start up sites for small businesses and work at home mums. I'm a single parent to a 12 year old super bright possibly aspbergers child. Hard work.
 

My main goal is weight loss, I put on a stone last year and I've spent all of this year trying to get half of it off, to no avail.

I run a little, converted to barefoot this year (which helps my knee) but I haven't been running for a month (school holidays, no childcare.....)

 

I go to the gym twice a week in term time and I have a personal trainer and an osteopath who are working to help me fix a dodgy knee, it's the best it ever has been, my squats are getting really low! I lift a little but I'm not interested in lifting loads, I just want to fend off osteoperosis.

 

I like gardening, I'm enjoying home grown courgettes (I'm in the UK) and runner and French beans right now and the apples will be ready soon.

I'm a homeowner of a crumbling Victorian (1886) house which I'm forever doing something too. I do a lot of it myself.
I like green woodworking, knitting socks, crochet, bookbinding, sewing sort of - I'm suffering anxiety problems about going near my machine at the moment.

I have giant african millipedes, huge leaf insects, axolotls and 2 cats.

I hate boardgames (no it's not because I haven't found the right one yet, they are just boring) but I do play Werewolf every now and then. I like films, everything from Finding Nemo to Dune. I read a lot, currently American Gods by Neil Gaimen which I'm loving. I play mindless computer games just to switch off sometimes. We don't have a TV, or a Wii or a playstation or whatever there is nowadays, we just have a computer.

I get childcare every other weekend when my son is with his dad and I tend to go out and see bands, I like rock, blues, folk, again very varied. I also tend to get a bit drunk when I get time off, I need to let off steam!

Sorry this has got long.

I joined the Adventurers because although I want to get fitter and lose some weight I haven't got a passion for any type of exercise. I like running but I don't love it, I don't like the gym at all but I like how I feel after, I like lifting at home but I am not at all motivated to lift my bodyweight or whatever. I enjoy yoga and meditation but it's not a big deal for me. Team sports bore me silly, ditto martial arts. The Adventurers sounded like the place for someone like me who does a bit of everything but isn't really really keen on just one thing.
 

and personally I feel like I'm getting enough support - If I need specific help I'll go to my accountability group which is brilliant, I have a core of a few people I interact with on my challenge thread and they are all helpful, supportive, sympathetic etc. Everything I need.

and I totally despise and hate and want to burn with fire - animated gifs. they make me feel really jittery.

Ten points to athousandwords for starting this. (I wish we could tag people. That would be convenient.)

 

I'm Flea, I'm 27 and starting grad school next week (ack!). My nerd thing is studying languages. I've never really been into RPGs (can't get out of my own head to be someone else), video games are fun but not my favorite, and I don't read nearly as much as I should. I seriously need to eat healthier/lose weight/get in shape.

 

I joined the Adventurers because although I want to get fitter and lose some weight I haven't got a passion for any type of exercise. I like running but I don't love it, I don't like the gym at all but I like how I feel after, I like lifting at home but I am not at all motivated to lift my bodyweight or whatever. How did you feel when we hung out?  Because I didn't get a cold/standoffish vibe at all.  You seemed delightful. :)

Ah see the difference there is that we already knew each other via the interwebs. But if you toss me in a situation with people I've never interacted with that's when it happens. I've literally had people tell me "I thought you hated me when we first met."

I'm already learning so much more about you all! This was a great idea, athousandwords! 

 

Hi, I'm Zoë and I overuse emoticons and exclamation points! I graduated from college two years ago and moved to a new place for work, and I've been floundering to figure out how to be an adult since then. I made a handful of great friends in college through my anime club and I'm starting to worry that that was just a lucky window of time in my life and I'll never find new friends with common interests again. 

 

I'm shy and introverted, but I love spending time around other people as long as I can get comfortable with them. I never understood how to really get to know people through forums but there are so many wonderful nerdy people here that I'm really hoping I figure it out as I go! I honestly think I'm more of a geek than a nerd since I love lots of geeky things but I don't know that I'm really knowledgeable about anything in depth enough to be considered nerdy about it. 

 

My geeky hobbies include anime, fantasy novels (and other books), and video game rpgs. Lately I've also started to really enjoy tabletop games, when I can find people to play them with me. I like to describe myself as a wannabee hippie, so I'm really into doing things naturally even if I'm not always great at it. I'm also really into food/cooking and personal finance, and lately I've been doing lots of cool fitness stuff that I'm getting really excited about. It's helping me to be more social, too! I'm also dying to learn to whittle, as soon as I can figure out where to buy a decent whittling knife. 

 

My main fitness goal right now is to get down to the weight where I felt most comfortable. I'm doing this through walking, strength training, and eating primal-ish. Once I achieve that goal, I plan switch to a more fitness-focused goal. It's always annoyed me when people say "we need to get a guy to carry this" so I'd like to become strong enough that when people say that, I can scoff and them and do whatever lifting is needed. :)

 

Originally I thought about becoming a Monk because I liked the idea of being strong and agile as my main focus. But there are just so many things I like to do! Who says you can't be strong and agile as an adventurer? I joined the adventurers because I want to be generally fit but to me that means doing yoga, strength training, walking, running, practicing martial arts, etc.. I love it all!
