bgvanbur
Background Three weeks to the Mighty Mosquito 99 trail race! So my main priority for week zero is to finish my last week of full training, week one and week two for a progressive taper, week three for recovery and who knows after that. So for this challenge it makes more sense to just have a weekly goal and will include a graded week zero, so 2 stat points for each of the seven weeks and 1 stat point for the race. I think I might have a biking goal later on in the challenge, maybe a walking for recovery goal, I don't know yet. Weekly goals can be refined as long as the week hasn't started yet. I think recovery will mostly be getting out to walk but is really going to depend on how I feel since I have no idea what state I will be in after the race. Dude, you are a beast. That race sounds awesome! I'll be following along. Thanks! So I have already been pretty productive on week zero (didn't want to pollute initial post with week zero progress). Monday I did 50k over three runs and already did a half marathon doing hill repeats (walk up / run down, practicing those run <-> walk transtions), so already at 44 miles and feeling great (legs a tad sore but super mild). 4 Quote Level 26, Primal Ultra Trail Scout, Non-Binary Robot Link to comment

bgvanbur
Looks over at Big Bang calendar and switches it from June to July... On the other side is my kid's artwork, I was supposed to paint my home office but now I have too much artwork the walls seems fine the color they are Got an email about the 99 miler, they are moving the solo runners up from 8am to 6am which also extends the cutoff from 28 hours to 30 hours. I definitely prefer the earlier start (still don't need a headlamp, so basically more daylight without the heat). 2 Quote Level 26, Primal Ultra Trail Scout, Non-Binary Robot Link to comment

bgvanbur
What time are you looking for at the end of the race? Looking good in your mod shirt!! I have no idea how long the race will take me. Last November I did a 50k (31 miles) in 5.5 hours. The 99 miler is at the same park and probably will have less elevation change per mile since it is on the side with less rolling hills. So 99 miles is tad over three 50ks, so I think for the longer race I should be able to do 8 hour 50ks so maybe around 25 hours? But again I have no idea what my body will feel like after all those miles, and my biggest fear is non-stop rain. Up to 82 miles for the week after this morning's run, and I thought as the week wore on I would have be careful with being sore and currently I am not sore at all which is really boosting my confidence for the 99 miler. But I have been being smart about eating clean recovery foods (and a bowl of ice cream a day) but the sleep is cut short but doesn't seem to hinder my recovery. I think the taper can start on Saturday starting with sleeping in 2 Quote Level 26, Primal Ultra Trail Scout, Non-Binary Robot Link to comment

Marathons are lightweight at all. Already at 115 miles for the week, and the taper has started! Got an A for the week zero goal. bgvanbur
I almost swept all 3 spots on my local running group's strava leaderboards: Since I was traveling for work 17 hours on Monday, no workout, but I did do a 5.5 mile preview of the 99 miler course at a nice clip with tons of elevation, so will count that for both Monday and Tuesday workout since way more intense than I planned during my taper. 5 Quote Level 26, Primal Ultra Trail Scout, Non-Binary Robot Link to comment

Is Mike Welden upset? Probably not, he placed pretty well in his 100 mile race I was kind of surprised this guy doing a 30k mountain race didn't beat us for elevation but he only got 2/3 of it recorded on his watch. 1 Quote Level 26, Primal Ultra Trail Scout, Non-Binary Robot Link to comment

bgvanbur
So week 1 was a little lazy, I did get the push mowing done so I don't have to worry about it again till after the race. Did get in a 30 minute hike on the trails for the race, so all in all I did achieve an A for week 1. My primal eating has been ok minus the oreos over the weekend (damn nutritional chemistry). But my goal for this week is to be primal and be that primal ultra trail runner I claim to be 2 Quote Level 26, Primal Ultra Trail Scout, Non-Binary Robot Link to comment
