Did you make those hoops and did you and the kids use it?

 

I did! and a couple of the grownups used them too, which is so awesome. the tape didn't get done by most people, they were too busy to fit it in (what with the beaching to be had) but that's cool. and as frustrating as taping a hoop is, it's also super awesome to see the colors coming through, and how they all work together.

I'm glad you had such a great trip!

 

There's a large part of me that wants to look like someone who kicks ass at all the physical stuff, WITHOUT having to do the actual work to look like that haha.  I'm lazy at heart.

 

oh, I am SO TOTALLY that person too. and to be honest really about 1/2 the time I'd be fine just LOOKING like that without actually being able to DO the things. oh well.

 

Again, you are so amazing when it comes to travelling and maintaining your goals!  It sounds like you had a really fantastic time and looked fantastic too.  And... Happy Anniversary!

wow, so, it's been a pretty busy week at work.

monday - I was up late because of amazing anniversary.

as noted.

so tuesday I didn't run, nor did I tkd.

wednesday I got up and ran my 2.5 miles. when I finished my abs felt like a wall of IRON. it was amazing. they are such strong muscles! so helpful!

thursday I was up early and down to my job site AND I had all you can eat sushi with a coworker which was, like, 1200 calories for lunch. #sorrynotsorry. It fit my calories. well.

then tkd, which was good and strong.

this morning is friday! I got up and ran my 2 miles.

 

TWO MILES IN 17:30.

YO THAT'S 8:45 PER MILE

HEY IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!

 

we are going camping this weekend.

I got a blue apron shipment and we're taking that with for dinner, lunch, and dinner.

I am going to see about stopping by a distillery for fun, and I have to plan where to do a 4 mile run on sunday.

 

this was a slow week and super tired - 3 nights of less than 5 hours of sleep. but I still hit some high fitness points, and this weekend will be lovely, and I'm not going to stress about beers.

when I told my husband I didn't realize how the per-mile pace broke down - and then when I had the realization I was like HEY! and he was like, yeah, once you get down to 7 min miles you should really start practicing for a marathon. I was kind of like.... um.... you are getting ahead of yourself man.

WEEK 4 (oh week 4 doldrums. I haz them.)

Goal 1: RUN!

Follow Hal Higdon Novice 8K training. All of it, flexibly.

well, I did the running part. I didn't do ANY of the bodyweight stuff, except for tkd on thursday.

AND, I had to shift out the last run because I decided I didn't want to stress about running 4 miles at a park while on vacation. so I did that this morning, and I'm still counting. basically I shifted my wk 5 rest day to wk 4. doldrum week deserves it.

I've got my schedule all calendared out for the next 3 weeks, because that's how long before 8K race day!

Goal 2: .... BUT YOU CAN'T OUTRUN YOUR DIET track the calories, track the fitbit, make up your mind re: science and facts.

Camping this weekend was brilliant. the campsite was a NYS Park site, and it was super crowded and very close together, and peopel had their radios on (which is, like, the worst thing ever as far as I'm concerned) but all in all? I didn't care at all. I was just happy to be in the woods reading a book with my sweetheart. We brought blue apron meals so we had fancy food with us and cooked in our chuck wagon. it was great. super great.

I feel kind of blah, but the 8K training is pulling me along.

however! once again I'm focusing on just the running when I know I want to get better at the bw stuff.

so, that's something to focus on for week 5.

last night my husband said to me things like:

"you are so muscular"

and "I didn't realize how MUSCULAR your neck is!"

and then he followed it up with

"that is SO HOT."

those sentences? that's stuff that most women don't hear all in a row like that. and as much as I'm loving the shape my body is taking, and I am loving how capable I am, and how strong I'm getting, and how close I'm getting to my -UPs goals, it was SO GOOD to hear that, because there's still a lot of societal messaging about what is beautiful. like, right now America is totally into the long-lean-almost prepubescent look. all the fitspiration has got narrow defined waists and narrow hips and long lean legs. and at judo-style kick-boxing workout-class this weekend while I was completing a set of 80 bicycles (after a set of 80 crunches and before a set of 80 leg lifts, interspersed with sets of 20 push-ups and 5 minute rounds of fast hard-bag work) I realized I am NEVER going to have a narrow super trim waist, because my abs are too gigantic - and I'm STILL working at them, and they're STILL getting stronger. There you go! it's just not possible. not like the fitspiration (which I think we all agree is FOR THE BIRDS), anyway. it's nice to hear that I like my new shape AND my husband likes it. super nice.

(I mean, I wouldn't stop if he didn't, but it would really make me question the kind of fellow he was, if he said things like *that* to me.)

so, long story short, I'm not worried about how trim my waist is or may become or might NOT become. because when I walk around and put my hands on my obliques and feel them moving around, that is so freakin' cool. also, my husband is a good egg and says the right things.

 

You.  Rock.  So.  Much.

 

And your husband is awesome.

 

This is the best mindset.  I've found myself much happier since I let the societal ideal go.  Fitspo is ridiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiculous.

 

yesterday was our 3 year anniversary (wedding. We celebrate our first dateiversary as well, but that's in march). so, we went out to eat - walked the mile or so into the village proper, went to the fanciest restaurant in our little town, ate and drank a lot, and walked home again. I LOVE WALKING TO DINNER. but, I had a couple of beers and a fancy dessert coffee (decaf) and I slept SO POORLY. OH BEERS. also the cat was nuts.

Best night ever: Twelve, who is 12 now, rode his bike from his mom's to our house for his night over and when we met at the house I asked if he would like to ride bikes to the village for dinner and he said yes! I got out my new-old bike (it's like, a mid-70s schwinn) and he and I rode the mile down for pasta dinner at our local pizza joint. My husband met us from the train station for dinner and drove our leftovers home. We rode home in the dark with a white blinky light on the front of his bike and a red blinky on the back of mine. So great! Seriously, life is beautiful.

so monday went well, it was a good day starting off with my 4 mile run (37:49 | 9:27 pace WHUT), and ending with a great bike ride. there was some creamy cheesy saucy pasta, maybe too much of that, but I was in general on-track with calories.

 

tuesday was rightly to be a rest day, but I knew I needed some stretching. I'd planned some active stretching at tkd (yeah, sometimes I consider tkd "active stretching," sometimes a bodyweight workout. um. I'm not WRONG, really) but Twelve didn't want to go to class, and I ended up working a tad late. so we bagged it, I went home and did some work until late. didn't get into bed until 11ish, which is 1 1/2 hours past my bedtime. Also? the cat is keeping me up in the mornings, she climbs up into the window sill and then claws at the screens, and that's TERRIBLE. ugh. we are going to have to start sleeping with the lower window closed and opening the upper window so she can't get to the screens.

 

this morning was up reluctantly for a 3 mile run (27:38 | 9:12 pace WHUT). I have acupuncture tonight, which is great timing b/c my Achilles tendons are getting kind of tight and I want to keep that from becoming an issue. Work is stupid busy and I am SUPER over-committed, ugh. so today I need to be pretty efficient. WISH ME LUCK.

guys, oh my glob, how is it already week 6?

I have been so stupid busy at work and etc. for the last 2 weeks I haven't been participating nearly as much as I like to on ye olde nf.

thank you for checking in despite my intermittent and slightly panicked updates. you are all the BESTERS.

 

so last week happened a lot. and here is a long list of all the things that happened. like, everything, fitness and not fitness, just to be complete.

 

wednesday: I survived, but still really only got about 80% of the things that desperately needed to be completed done.

acupuncture was good, but the next morning my Achilles on my right leg was super sore! it took me several days to stretch it back out into a reasonable place. that's not cool.

BUT I did have a epiphany about my right leg - my quad on that leg is underdeveloped compared to the other. It's visibly smaller and obviously stressed when I run (it shivers when I'm stretching in a way that my other one doesn't).

hey I bet my hamstring issue is in large part because of that unbalanced leg issue.

which means I need to start to work in some diligent quad building exercises.

(maybe next challenge. I'm tired this week.)

 

thursday was my long day at work. I was out of the house at 615 and drove down to the construction site for meetings, then RUSHED back to the office for meetings at 1PM, which of course ran over, and then from 3-5 tried to catch up on the 6 hours of work I'd missed. I dashed out to pick up my csa, and was only slightly late to tkd with Twelve. home and I had to work late, which was the pits, and then fell asleep over my laptop. WHUT. UGH.

 

friday I was supposed to get up and run 2 miles. I really was too tired, though, and instead got into work and pulled a solid day of work. I also wanted to take a lunch break to go to ikea and buy a couple of pieces for the closet that we built, but I ended up having to work straight through lunch. let me put it this way: my procrastination during small breaks was to look up DIY teardrop campers and send a million emails to my husband with all of them. He read the subtext: let's build a tiny travel trailer and quit our jobs and travel together instead BECAUSE I AM SO DONE THIS WEEK.

 

drove home with a stop by the beer store (because I was so done with the week). We had the boys for dinner, and happily we had received some knockwurst in our bulk buying delivery this week, so we had dinner nearly prepped (CSA potatoes, knockwurst, salad). I made this light potato salad - a nice twist on a traditional german potato salad - for my husband and I and some baked potatoes for sixteen, who hates flavors. twelve enjoyed the salad, which was good, because sixteen nommed his baked potato post haste when it was made available to him. after dinner there was suggestion of a movie but I was POOPED and we instead watched a stray steven universe ep and headed to bed.

 

Sat.! dojo sat. I was up early and strapped my swords to the back of my motorcycle and rode to class (BWA HA HA oh I wish I had a photo). it was totally innocuous, they were wrapped in a towel and it only looked like I had a long thing across my back seat. The owner of the dojo changed my rear tire while I was in boxing and weapons classes. MAN YO, but my boxing class was nuts. the dojo owner was saying something about one of his boxing students, who goes 10-3minute rounds with a 30 sec rest in between and THEN does pushups and situps. And somehow that translated into my boxing teacher setting us up for 10-3minute rounds of heavy bag work routines with 1 1/2 min "rest intervals," only instead of resting we did pushups and situps. WHAT IS THIS EVEN. we lasted about 5-6 rounds of this before he got bored and we practiced blocking and dodging in pairs.

 

after I got home we had lunch (LIVERWURST SANDWICHES YUM) and then I took a quick bath (it sounds luxurious but it's really just the safest way to shave my legs in our fancy new old fashioned tub). then we dashed out the door for a late-scheduled dinner with my brother for his birthday, wherein fried seafood and beers were had. So delicious. after we got home I went upstairs to lie down and TOTALLY fell asleep. I was so tired!

 

Sunday I was up early for my 4 mile run (38:51, zomg, even though I walked 2x for probably about 4 minutes?! I must have been going WAY TOO FAST during the running parts! because that's a 9:42 pace. what. WHAT.) and then ! we went to the air show, and watched super loud jets and cool squadron style flying. It was incredibly hot, and no food or beverages were allowed in, and it was super sunny, and the vendors were selling water for $3 for a 12 oz bottle and that really gets me angry, actually, because they kept announcing that we should drink lots of water so we could avoid dehydration and!? water was so expensive! but, my husband and the boys and my mom and I had a great time, and that's what's important. that, and none of us puked from heat stress.

 

 

after that we got home for dinner and we took 16 over to his moms for gaming (that's where his gaming pc lives) and 12 and husband and I played card games and it was really lovely.

 

 

I owe a week 5 recap, but I just got home after a full day at work (and also I rode 200 miles on the motorcycle - to the office, to the construction site, and back again - in 90 degree heat) so I'm having a beer and making some dinner. this thai basil eggplant is the dinner I'm making, because this week is all about diligently eating all the csa foods.

Tired just reading about your week! I agree with you and Stars - next time take a photo of bike, swords, etc.! Wow Warrior woman is who really are! LOL!
Good luck with the rest of this last week, although I think your life is always hectic and not just during NF challenges.
