Let's just say my dear Mando took it easy on me last night on the tennis court.  Lots of memories and good fun, but one set was enough for the first time out.

You are so ready for the 5k! Race day the excitement of the event and the crowd gives you an extra boost. You are going to be great. Can't wait to hear about how it goes. Have fun!!

Thanks to last week, I'm feeling less discouraged about a low push-up count in my 2nd workout of the week.  So here are a few more reps to push my challenge count up to

The weather looks perfect for tomorrow, and I'm feeling pretty healthy.  There's a little discomfort in the shins from the 10k that I walked for the mini-challenge on Wednesday.  But all in all, I'm looking forward to a great 5k race tomorrow morning!

Thanks for thinking of me, honeybadger, Peace, and MoodyBeth!  The race was really cool.  The best part was laughing and joking through it with my dear husband.  This is the first time I can think of that we have ever run together.  He was so kind to run nice and slow with me the whole way.  Even let me finish before him :playful:.   It was very much the encouragement that I needed.

 

As for the trappings of an official 5k, I'm happy to get the T-shirt (woo hoo).  It was nice to hear music blasting through the park, and have the volunteers cheer us on.  But the whole finishing line thing was a little anti-climactic.  I wasn't really running to win anything, and once the race was over, I was just happy to gather my things and head home.  With my T-shirt, of course :)

 

I'm not even sure of my run time.  I thought I would care more, but I guess I don't.  I think the big clock had ticked a little past 37:00 when I crossed the line.  Mando ran with a gps app that showed us running a little further and faster.  I will probably check the official times and standings once they are posted on the website.  There was a nice mixed group of people running - lots of ages and fitness levels.  It may even have been the ultimate nerd run since it benefited our library and had local cosplayers (hello, batman!) great us at the end.

Week 2 Results - Feeling proud that I finished the race.


 


Push up counts:  This Week: 11  Total Challenge: 18


 


Goal 1 - Push ups with each strength workout Pass PP


Good week for these.  I didn't feel as discouraged when the 2nd workout had lower counts than the first one.  Counts will go up and down, and that's OK.  I started adding negative push-ups, too.  They feel good (by which I mean they turn my arms to mush, and leave me groaning).


 


Goal 2 - (weeks 1 and 2) Work towards 5k race on August 8 Pass PP


Yep, I practiced hard and ran that race.  Got the T-shirt.  Woo Hoo!


 


Goal 3 - Push up less by losing a pound a week Last Week: 190.5  This week 190 Pass PP 


This one I pass because I have 5 perfect days on my checklist.  So, the effort is there, and the scale will catch up eventually.  I get extra credit for the day in which I took the kids to Hershey's Chocolate World.  The smell alone drove me crazy!


 


Mini Challenge - Endurance- walk 10k.


I really enjoyed this walk.  There was some pressure because I needed to walk it faster than I thought.  But mostly, it reminded me of good old days.  I used to be an avid hiker.  I also used to walk every day at lunch when I worked in an office.  Both fond memories.  It's really powerful to see how far you can go - just one foot in front of the other.


 


This Week


The coming week looks nice.  I'm going for the 3-peat on my strength workouts (MWF).  I'm not sure if I will like this or not, but will try it for four weeks to see.  I also have my speed feat to look forward to in the mini.  I'm going to run a single mile under 11 minutes.  Pretty sure I came close to this during one of the splits at the 5k on Saturday.  Pretty sure I can do it again :)


 


And, since I already did my first set of push ups for the coming week, I'm counting them up right now: 27

 There was a nice mixed group of people running - lots of ages and fitness levels.  It may even have been the ultimate nerd run since it benefited our library and had local cosplayers (hello, batman!) great us at the end.

 

Races are fun just because of the atmosphere - good job! 

My sister-in-law ran a 5k yesterday in a pirate costume - the running atmosphere encourages this, I think!

Checking in with more push ups.  Not quite ten in a row, but I did ten push ups today!  The challenge count is up to: 37

My ankle's a little sore, so I "ran" on the elliptical yesterday.  It was a good opportunity to check out the Zombies Run! app.  Fun stuff.


 


Also got the official times from Saturday's race.  37:05.  That's an 11:56 minute mile, which beats my goal of 12.  I know the time on mapmyrun app was even faster, so Woo hoo!
