SpecialSundae keeps it simple and heads for 400 Wilks

So this is going to be all over the place since I'm playing catch-up, but here we go:

  • Damn. Seeing your transformation is amazing and inspiring. As someone who has spent her life being mistaken for older than I am, I hope to follow in your awesome lady-lifter footsteps.
  • Your post about the competition really resonated with me. It can be so tough to feel good about our progress and accomplishments when the competitive part takes over and we know we can't win. I hope it doesn't impact your motivation too much (and from what I can tell in posts, it didn't!), because it really is awesome what you do.
  • More cat gifs are always a good thing.
  • Yay for good sleep! Always makes things better.

Anywho, best of luck on Week Two! I hope to be a bit more present.

OMG me too. Usually wake up in a pool of sweat and a drenched t-shirt.

I usually wake up 1kg lighter than when I went to bed, sometimes a bit more. Unless I've eaten a load of carbs in which case I'm retaining more of that water.

Between 1 and 2 kg over here.  I thought it had something to do with age.

Went to bed just after 11 and had lights out for eight hours but only slept for seven according to my FitBit.

Yoga yesterday was great and I'm starting to get movement back in my hip without pain, but I did almost black out for no good reason. It's a hot yoga class but I was well hydrated and I'm usually fine, so I'm not sure what caused it.

I just keep on plugging because some day I'll win. It has been so frustrating losing Best Lifter twice on such stupid little things, but having to fight to even be champion in my own weight class sometimes will be good for me. You can get to be a bit of a big fish in a small pond if you only ever compete with people who don't challenge you.

I understand about the hot yoga. Even though I'm a bit suspect to heat problems, I did have some problems while going 4 mi.in the florida heat this morning (I dont live in florida, vacation). Be careful, heat exhaustion really sneaks up on you. Best of luck this week :)

Okay, so I didn't do enough mobility yesterday. Probably should have but meh.

Didn't get enough sleep last night either (could have punched my husband for that, stupid snorey man).

Training was good. Had a chat with my coach about weight classes. I can go up a class for the next comp if Tankweazel's going up to my usual class, but long-term I'm probably going to stick with 63.

Anyway, here's my training from last night for those who are interested:

Tuesday 4/8:

Squats:

(15kg x10) Had to use a women's weightlifting bar because there were no powerlifting or men's bars available.
(45kg x10)
(70kg x5) Got a powerlifting bar
(90kg x5)
110kg x4x5 (Belt on for these sets only)

New pain in my left hip from Saturday was back. Seems to go away after lifting is done.

Bench:

(20kg x10)
(40kg x10)
(50kg x5)
(60kg x5)
65kg x4x5

Not as easy as I would have liked, but pretty fast. Training buddy made me laugh so hard on one set that I completely blew my set-up.

Felt really tired and rubbish so contemplated doing guns but just wanted to go home.

Our (absolute) numbers are so close.  Did you say you were going for 135 kg this competition or three plates?

When I was a weightlifter, I used to have a secret goal of keeping my clean at or ahead of SpecialSundae's deadlift ;) Don't think I could sustain that anymore, even if I was still weightlifting!

Three plates in competition is 175kg ((3x2x25)+20+(2x2.5)=175).

Oooooops!  I guess I was thinking 2x3x20 kg plates + 20 kg bar for 140 kg because that is reasonably close to 2x3x45 pound plates + 45 pound bar for 315 pounds.  In competition you have 2.5 kg collars?

(I don't use clamps by the way, except for deadlifts.  I like to see how the weights have shifted.)

I have almost figured out the color coding.  One day I might have the language differences down.

At least you don't object to 1RM estimates.  :)

You managed to keep that secret rather well! I never had a clue about it. :)

In the gym, I'll usually use 20kg plates (because 25kg are harder to handle) but in competition they use 25kg plates and 2.5kg collars. I assumed it was the same in the US, but I might be wrong. Anyone want to correct me?

I'm thinking about getting some of the quick collars because I find searching around for clips a pain in the backside (much like trying to find 1.25kg plates). I really don't like the weights moving because it unbalances me.

Depends, the one I loaded/spotted at in June had only 20 kg on one platform, while the other platform had both 20 and 25 kg.
