Wow ten minutes of continuous running! You are amazing! Love seeing you find things that work for you based on the situations you're in, it's so awesome and it means you're truly making a life style change and not letting the lack of a "perfect" situation dictate your results; you're flexible enough to go with the flow and make it work! Keep on conquering Shello!

 

Thanks for saying that.  I hadn't really noticed that.  I think the goals this time around based on CICO is really helping me stay active in a general sense rather than just getting a certain number of workouts in.  I like how it is working out.  The deficit part is harder than I thought but being mindful of calories out is going very well.  

 

Wow that ab cramp sounds terrible.  I must not be working my abs enough because I can't even imagine what that must feel like lol.  Way to be rocking out and sticking to your schedule!

 

It was horrible.  The worst part is, a few times LordShello would get an ab cramp and I laughed snickered at him because who gets those?   Well, he had no sympathy for me when I told him the story despite me telling him I thought I might die writing on the floor trying to stretch it out.  

 

You're doing awesome! Love your challenge schedule, crossing things from a list is the best feeling ever. :)

Congrats for the run, Shello! What an accomplishment, I'm really happy for you :) And that Ripley workout looks super hard O__o Respect!! Despite the ab cramp. That sounds like something on a French restaurant menu!

 

I have also on my list of ab workouts is the Rocky Abs and the Bruce Lee abs.  I'm glad I picked the easiest of the three.

So I completed the Ranger mini yesterday.  I had to run for 10 min continuously. I did make it so now I'll have to make sure I push myself to do that all the time.  I was thinking that would help me in the 5K but it actually slowed down my time.  I just run slower and then take a longer walking break in the middle.  I think from now until the race I'll push myself to run that 10 minutes, no matter the speed, and then try to run a 2nd 10 minutes on the way back.  Hopefully the speed will just take care of itself as I get used to it.   ??  We'll see.

Congrats on the run!!! 10 minutes is awesome. Honestly, I would not worry about speed it will improve over time as you get more comfortable. Keep up the good work.

 

Thanks.  I hope it does.  I went for a run again today and did another 10 minute run.  I really pushed myself to get that and then pushed myself to run as much of the rest as I could and my time is not improving.  It's tough to motivate myself to keep pushing.

Honestly, I would not worry about speed it will improve over time as you get more comfortable. Keep up the good work.

^^^ I agree with this. You should increase your distance before you increase your speed. I also had to concentrate on distance first. I know how incredibly frustrating it can be not to be able to run quickly at first. BUT it shall happen in due course. :)

 

 

It's tough to motivate myself to keep pushing.

Harvard University published an article [dash.harvard.edu] about the evolution of running. This piece was quite interesting: "In short, for marathon-length distances, humans can outrun almost all other mammals and can sometimes outrun even horses, especially when it is hot."

 

Early humans would use a technique known a Persistence Hunting to catch their prey. They would run for hours on end to wear down the animal that they were hunting. So, your great great great [...] great great GrandpaShello would run for hours in order to catch his food. I think it was quite effective, because you are alive today (Duh).

 

Natural Selection still dictated back then. Only the strongest runners would survive and therefore propagate their DNA. So, you can be sure that you have the ability to run a fair distance! 

 

It's literally in your DNA!  ;)

Sounds like voodoo but I will swear by it, learned it back in my wrestling days for when you'd cramp after the first few practices.

OK, Distance before speed.  There seems to be some agreement.  I will stop obsessing.  well, ok, maybe I won't actually stop.  But I will laugh in the face of my obsession and tell it to f*ck off because I'm doing what I am supposed to be doing.

I may have to just suffer as I'm not sure I can resort to pickle juice.  I guess if it were bad enough and prolonged I might cave...and then upchuck.

Week 2 Itinerary Progress

 

 

Monday - Run.  Attempt to complete Ranger mini (10 min continuous running) DONE and mini accomplished

Tuesday - PT and Neila Rey core workout DONE

Wednesday - Run. If Ranger mini accomplished - do it again since then I know I can do it.  If not, try again. DONE.  10 minutes achieved again in first half. Still working on 2nd half. 

Thursday - PT and Neila Rey lower body strength workout  Mostly DONE. 

Friday - family bike ride?   Not going to happen.  

Saturday - Run. (See Wednesday)  also D&D night returns.

Sunday - PT and Neila Rey  workout TBD

 

Yesterday I did get my PT exercises done and when I had searched Neila Rey for a leg workout this was the workout of the day and I figured it would do nicely.  PLus Dragon Slayer has a nice ring to it.  I don't know what I was thinking.  I couldn't completed even 1 round.  As in not just was it too taxing, but physically I could not do it.  1 handed mountain climbers?  sorcery.  I tried the pistol squat and I could manage it as an assisted.  I didn't even get to the shrimp squats or the dragon push ups.  I started looking for a replacement and by the time i decided on the Leg Day workout all my mojo was gone.  

 

I did go for a bike ride late in the evening to make up some calories.  I had this route in mind that didn't seem too hilly but I really just under estimated the hill.  That was tough.  I ended up walking up the last 1/3 of the hill.  But the I got to the mostly empty parking lot of a large strip mall.  That's more to my liking.  I basically rode around in circles around the parking lot for a bit until it got dark then I rode down the hill and home.... except for the hill of death to get back to my house... I walked my bike up that too.  

 

Tonight is supposed to be a family bike ride.  We were going to stop at a bike shop for some adjustments (we don't do our own but I'd like to learn to do this.  I'm not sure why the handy LordShello doesn't seem comfortable doing this but he doesn't) and we were going to bike there, grab some dinner at Pie 5 (pizza) and then bike back.  But I learned that if they need adjustments they'll end up keeping the bikes for up to 3 days.  That would make it slightly difficult to bike back home.  So now we're driving.  On top of that, his Lordship is super duper bummed today as he found out he didn't get this job he had applied for.  So we decided to get back into our family D&D campaign to help cheer him up.  So there is not much time for a run or some suitable workout.  Today is supposed to be a rest day but I wanted the bike ride to be a 'fun' rest day activity.  And work was stressful, his Lordship was being all stressful so I had a burger and 1/2 order of fries for lunch with the anticipated pizza for dinner.  I'm pretty sure today is NOT going to be a deficit day.  

 

As long as I keep it reasonable I can live with a surplus as long as it's just today.  Tomorrow is back to normal with a run in the morning before the heat settles in.  And I have to do some recipe planning for my Doodly challenge...

I love this so much. Maybe that could be my epitaph.

I'll share. But you may have to remind me of this the next time I obsess over my running (lack of) abilities. My anxiety is only going to increase as the race gets closer.

That Dragon Slayer workout looks crazy hard, I am super impressed you got through quite a bit of it! 

 

Also I think you're right not to worry about the surplus tonight, you are generally very consistent with your efforts so one day isn't going to make or break thing. You got this Shello! Tomorrow will be business as usual, I know it :D

Hey, you could have called it quits on Thursday after the deadly dragon slayer workout, but you went and rode your bike.  It didn't work out for Friday, but as long as you keep it up with the good intentions, you'll get something in most days and that's way better than most people.  Enjoy your carb refeed today, and get right back to your usual macros tomorrow! ;)

It is crazy hard.  Now that I think of it, Iv should have just scaled it all down to normal human level activities.  Today was supposed to be business as usual...it was most of the the day but it was D&D night and I started snacking...  I'm not sure of the final numbers but if there is a deficit it will be minimal.

Good point.  The surplus ended up being not too large... thanks to the ride.

No sprints.  I was just happy to be able to stay on a level surface.  I live among so many hills.  But that's a good idea.  Maybe that's what i'll do next time.

 

You're training for life. Stopping the Dragon Slayer and instead facing The Hill of Death is still a good day.

Didn't I tell you the same thing?  So true.  And look at you being all positive.  I actually had forgotten about the hill of death.  When I left the parking lot I was thinking it was all downhill from there....  but duh, I live right on the hill.  There is no way to avoid it.

Tonight was D&D night.  It didn't actually use up as much social mana as usual..  It was a good night.  But my son has joined the gaming and he brought out the Doritos.  I was tempted by them for so long I finally gave in..  I did go for a run today and since I also used the sleeping in tactic, I was low on calories going into the game but those Doritos add up fast.  I still may pull in a deficit by the end of the day.

my surplus on Friday wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  And I ended up with deficits all weekend, healthy deficits even.  But the weight was finally following the goal but now is back up again.  I'll just ignore that for now.  

 

I already posted about the D&D snacking on Saturday but I went for a run that morning as well.  That helped the deficit out.  I managed another 10 min continuous run fir the first half as well as the typical walking/jogging drills.  On the way back I was shooting for another 10 minute run.  my brain wasn't cooperating.  I tried the yelling at it tactic telling it to shut up.  That wasn't really working so I tried singing songs in my head.  Both tactics I picked up from Sloth.  The singing worked but I honestly couldn't think of any songs that I could remember all the lyrics to so I resorted to Henry the VIII I am... Got to admit it's pretty simple.  It also kept my brain occupied and I was able to keep running.  The error was when the story line picked up again on the Zombies Run app so I stopped singing in my head so I could listen.  Once 6 minutes was up my body just stopped running - I didn't even really think about it.  I continued to jog in between running but I probably could have gone longer.  

 

Sunday was a tough day.  There were a lot of things to do and we knew we would be out all day getting school clothes and running errands to get ids ready for school.  And since I will be trying new recipes all week I didn't do any batch cooking except for the breakfast bake.  I like to eat it fresh the first night I make it so it didn't really want to make a bunch and then eat it all reheated.  So there was nothing planned for dinner.  Right from the beginning I wanted to go out to eat for dinner.  I wanted a burger or something.  I did take the time to evaluate why I wanted to eat out.  I was overwhelmed with all the errands to do and I was feeling guilty for the past couple days.  LordShello wanted to stay in to avoid making a bad decision.  He convinced me to stay in.  Making a third day a bad day didn't make it better if I ate poorly the 2 days before.  That's all the more reason to eat in and be good.  This is the part that is good to have someone else making decisions with you.  But then, in his attempts to convince me to stay home, evidently he got convinced to go out...  So we went out for dinner.  This is where it isn't always so nice to make decisions with someone else.  I did, indeed, get a burger and it was good.  I got a baked potato instead of fries (that's better right?)

 

Well it was late after dinner and I still hadn't gotten my workout in.  I wasn't necessarily feeling guilty but I wanted to do what I could to turn it around.  We rushed home and I decided to go for a run before it got dark.  I didn't have time for my PT exercises first as I intended but I did them when I got back.  No Neila Rey workout though.  But I got my run in, it was getting dark by the time I started back home.  This time Princess Peach (my daughter) went with me.  She was encouraging and motivating.  The continuous run on the way back was 8 minutes this time because of her.  So it was a pretty good run.  

 

Due to being out all day and on my feet and then going for a run, I had a record hitting high calories burned over 4,000.  This allowed me to pull in a bigger deficit. 

 

Since today is going to be a super busy day too because of the Open Houses at both kids' schools I am counting last night's run as today's run and giving a point for PT since I did the PT just not the additional strength routine.
