So much awesome going on here you earned the scout of the week!

WooHoo!!!

Liking the plan. A big-arse whiteboard is a lot harder to ignore than a Google spreadsheet!

It's really hard to ignore!  and I added a spot for splitting up the mileage for the week, so I check off each day, and what I've done.

Day 1 of week 4 done, and it felt pretty good.

Woke up with some ankle and knee pain in my left leg, so I waited till the afternoon for any kind of working out.

went to the gym and decided to do all 6 different convict conditioning progressions.  Most notably added a third pull up to my third set, and short bridges are getting pretty easy, so it might be time to move up the ladder on that one.  Also did 113 floors on the stair climber, right on track!

ran 4.8 miles next to the harbor today.  There was still some knee pain when I started, but it faded away, and eventually disappeared.  Hopefully it stays at bay for this week, as next week is a recovery week!  Only 12 miles planned for that week, and at least 3 of them will be during a spartan sprint!

The last couple days have both been good days.  Yesterday, 3.9 miles, plus convict conditioning, and did 113 floors on the stair machine.  I was pretty grogy all day, but that's what you get for staying up till 1:30am the night before!

Today my running was out of wack a bit.  I showed up at 7:15am at work to take the kids running, but only one group was able to do the running that early.  So I went back later and finished my last 2 laps to get my miles for the day, and than went home and did convict conditioning.  Trail running and convict conditioning done for the week!

Now I just need to find a healthy meal to cook tomorrow!  I'll be in the woods all weekend, so not much for commenting is going to happen!

Beginning of week 4 and I am starting pretty good again!

Went to work to run with the kids after camping with another group from work all weekend, so got my trail running in for the week!  Also did my convict conditioning, as well as eating an interesting fruit salad (added pears and coconut, a first for my taste buds!)

Going to be running tomorrow, and I'm using my cycles of work and rest at work.  One of the groups got 3 days off from running and it showed in the extra energy they had, so going to talk to my boss about being more purposeful in staggering the runs (right now I am running them, but some staff are still using the old schedule, which means hill sprints a couple days too).

Also decided not to increase my miles for the weeks after my recovery, as I have been having some shin pain.  Keeping the same running volume for the next set hopefully will give my shins the time needed to build some strength.  I am also looking into cold baths after running, and any advice would be appreciated!

First OCR this year is saturday, along with enough volunteering to hopefully cover ALOT of races next year.

This is great. Really well planned out. I think the cold shower thing is a good idea to try out for yourself. I love it, but not every 'body' responds the same way.

Changing up the run schedule seems pretty wise as well.

Have a great week!

Day 2 was one of those days that started great, but ended on a mediocre note.

Started the day by getting up earlier and knocking out convict conditioning. Moved up a level to straight bridges and frog leg raises, doing both above the minimum standard of reps.

Got to work and got 1.3 miles with the first group, but the second group was overloaded with chores so the plan was for the other group to run in the afternoon. BUT, than I heard CODE ADAM over the radio, and there goes the whole day. Literally the whole day. Didn't get the miles I needed, and than was so drained I walked into my house like a zombie and fell asleep. So tonight it's gonna be balls to the wall in packing, than a late night long drive after work tomorrow with another long drive early in the morning the next day!

I'm curious how the cold water will effect me. I've done it once so far, and my shines definitely felt better.

Happy shins is good!

Your job is intriguing. What do you do that you get to run and respond to Code Adams's?   :onthego:

I was thinking I had explained that before, but oh yea, I'm a scout now!

I work in a residential treatment center for teenagers of both genders.  I work as a behavioral specialist, which means my job is to observe there behavior and work with them towards becoming a responsible adult.  Occasionally they make bad choices that either endanger themselves or others and than CODE ADAM comes over the radio and we respond however is neccessary to manage the risk of the situation.  For me this generally means running at a dead sprint till I have them in sight, and than pacing them until the correct procedures can be put in place to bring them back.

I've been so busy that I haven't been able to post since last week, but everything is on track!  Did all my runs last week, and even though that code adam really cut in on my milleage, my race was an extra couple miles, so I hit the miles right on the money!  I didn't get as many free races stacked up as planned, but I have now signed up for another race, this one close enough so I can just drive down and stay with family for a few days while I help build and than tear down the obstacles.

Some bad news though, running at work isn't going to be as big of a deal as it was turning into.  Unfortunetly I didn't anticipate something I should have anticipated, residents turning it into a negative thing.  The residents have a choice on eating a minimum amount or eating a max serving, no in between and no refusing food.  A few of the female residents were falling back on the terrible cultural pressure and getting as close to starving themselves as possible.  We didn't have any plan of how to deal with this, and some of the staff were going with the old exercise plan, so they were running 5 days a week sometimes and than the boss saw this and decided to nix it for now after the trail run next week.  Talk about taking a knock in the gut!  But!  I've got a plan!  Staff are being encouraged to figure out different workshops they can teach, so I am going to come back with a vengence this winter and bring winter sports into the mix!  I am also going to read ALOT, and see if there is some way I can bring nutrition into the mix in the future, so that problems with attempting to starve will be expected and dealt with in a positive way.

That's really awesome work. I did work in an off school site program to help at risk kids get school work done, get therapy, and build social skills with certain activities. It's quite rewarding.

Sorry the running has taken a hit. Hope you're idea works!

It's very rewarding, although exhausting!  And I think I gave up on the running to easily.  Might take another stab at it with my boss!

The challenge has ended! I forgot to post the end of the week, as I forgot it as the end of the week!  But I got a trail run in, busted out the steps in record time, and did 3 convict conditioning workouts!

Lets look back through the challenge and see how I leveled up.

Goal #1 -

I hit the trails at least once a week each week, if not more!  I've even gotten to the point where I can wear my minimalist shoes running on trails without to much concern of an ankle injury.

+4 STA

Goal #2 -

I owned the stairs!  But they did get pretty boring.  Thankfully I found a new trial that has an awesome amount of elevation change!  It's steep, its connected at least 20 miles of other trails, and its right next to work!

+4 STR

Goal #3 -

Convict conditioning is going great, and it's something I definitely plan on sticking to.  I focused a lot on getting better at leg raises and bridges, and I have gotten compliments recently about my improved posture.  Reading my original post, I realize I've actually been doing 3 days a week when I only planned on 2!

+3 CHA

Life goal -

Each week I had a new meal, except the last week.  I don't feel very bad about this though, as the day I planned on cooking a new meal, I took a beautiful girl to dinner.  WORTH IT!
