"Bedhead Queen" Issue No.1!

Recommended Posts

Izzy E. Lewis, a twenty-one year old transgender woman trying to make it in patriarchal conservative capitalist society responsible for the death of hundreds of minorities each year, embarks on a life-changing quest not only for herself, but for her country. Though a seemingly reclusive nerd with very poor social skills and immobilizing anxiety, Izzy is a passionate seeker of justice and social/economical equality for all. Afraid to hurt the ones she loves, Izzy disposes of her alter-ego in times of crisis to become the fiery kick a** heroine known as Bedhead Queen, a wise and nimble assassin of the patriarchy! That is, she would be if she weren't, in fact, a reclusive nerd with very poor social skills and immobilizing anxiety, but that all changes today! Yes, not all heroes are born. Some must face overwhelming odds and adversities to be the heroes we see in comic book pages. But you see, by simply having the determination and courage to face those odds they are already heroes; just waiting to fit into their skin-tight costumes.

Join our hero as she takes on outrageous and deadly obstacles like... DRINKING WATER, and... WALKING, and... BODYWEIGHT TRAINING? Hm, oh'well. Watch as she teams up with her amazing team of crime fighters such as... FRIENDS, and... FAMILY MEMBERS, and... FELLOW ONLINE NERDS?? Okay, is this for real? It is? Man, superheroes have gone downhill since I was a kid. Achem, anyway! Izzy, the overweight night owl whose favorite things are chinese food and the word "yas," begins her metamorphosis today, and for the next six weeks will be addressing and tackling a variety of objectives all contributing to her one true goal:

Becoming a heroine deserving of the name Bedhead Queen! - Main Quest

To determine the "Heroic Qualifications" of Bedhead Queen, we must first analyze Izzy's current physical condition & statistics.

  • Age: 21 (22 August 30th)
  • Height: 5'11'' (71in or 180.34cm)
  • Weight: 300lbs (136.078kg)
  • Sex: Genetic Male
  • Gender: Female
  • Level: 0
  • Stats: STR - 0 / DEX - 0 / STA - 0 / CON - 0 / WIS - 0 / CHA - 0

To fully become Bedhead Queen, Izzy has created the "lifetime goal" of losing over 100lbs, gaining mental stability, progressing in her transitioning, and enlisting in the military in the next year. In "Bedhead Queen" issue No.1 prepare to be immersed in the first six weeks of Izzy's Hero Training where she will attempt to make and accomplish three SMART goals, and defeat foes that will bring her one step closer to becoming one of the greatest superheroes of this generation. Brace yourselves, for over the next six weeks you'll get to experience our hero facing these three perils:

  • Face off against hordes of the Undead! GOAL 1: Walk 40 minutes 4 times a week.

Utilizing the free iOS/android app "Zombies, Run" Izzy will immerse herself in a parallel universe where humankind is facing extinction at the hands of the walking dead. Only she, with the help of the inhabitants of Abel Township, can save this zombie-ridden universe from complete annihilation.

WEEK SIX PROGRESSIVE GOAL: Attempt to run at least 20 minutes of each mission.

  • Prevent the water supply from being poisoned! GOAL 2: Drink 3 cups of water daily.

Izzy's kryptonite, the taste of water, has prevented her from hydrating herself properly for the majority of her life. Her carbonated nemesis "Mr. C" has, for a long time, corrupted her mind and made her addicted to the toxic syrup that is soda. That stops now, as our hero will attempt to grow immunity to her weakness over time, and keeping her body hydrated.

WEEK SIX PROGRESSIVE GOAL: Drink at least 4 cups of water daily.

  • Protect her identity from suspecting citizens! GOAL 3: Job hunt every day.

As her friends and neighbors begin noticing Izzy's sudden disappearances, they become suspicious of her activity. To affirm that she isn't doing anything dangerous or crazy, she must integrate with society by assuming the role of an everyday working-class citizen. She has six weeks to find a job before her cover is blown and identity discovered.

WEEK SIX PROGRESSIVE GOAL: If employed, introduce self to at least three of your co-workers.

  • Learn more about this world's history & culture! SIDE QUEST: Read one book a week.

Interested to learn more about the strange world & society she finds herself in, Izzy will research to learn about its lore, culture, and tales. With an abundance of options at her disposal, she will transport her mind into a variety of worlds to enrich herself and gain vast wisdom.

WEEK SIX PROGRESSIVE GOAL: Write a short story, poem, or chapter of a novel.

Stay tuned for an action-packed first installment of "Bedhead Queen"! Can she do it?

Haha, I love your intro, you're very funny!

I find a slice of lemon in a glass of water makes it much tastier (or a few drops of lemon juice).  Always keeping a bottle with you helps too, preferably one that looks more inviting than any soda cans that might conspire to block your path! :)

I used it for the first time today, and I'm in love with it. I just downloaded an appropriate spotify playlist comprised of The Last of Us and The Walking Dead soundtracks amongst other great songs to immerse myself deeper.

Thank you! I enjoy comedy so I always try to incorporate it. Helps motivate me and keeps readers interested so why not, right? And I used to love lemon water. Great way to kickstart a day. ^ u ^ thank you both for your positive messages.

An update on how this week has gone so far! It's been a pretty active one, and it's only two days in.

Sunday

Though I don't think it counts towards the six weeks, I wanted to write about it anyway. It was my first day rejoining the Rebellion, and my first day using the Zombies, Run iOS app. I walked about two miles in the morning when the streets were still dead and quiet. It made me feel like I could really be in the zombie apocalypse. If you're looking for a way to get into walking/running & enjoy the zombie scene I highly recommend this app (you can use it with your music still playing which is awesome). I spent the rest of the day sleeping because, at the time, my schedule was disastrous and I hadn't slept the previous night or day.

Monday

What a day I had yesterday. My housemate (who also uses the ZR app) and I went for a walk at 1am Monday morning and walked almost three miles together before coming home and sleeping. Running away from zombies at night is terrifying in the best way possible. I love to be immersed like that, and I was definitely on edge the entire time. I managed to drink my three cups of water (woohoo), and I also did some job hunting. After I woke up and ate I went out for another walk by myself, and managed another four miles (7 in total for the day). I took a lot of pictures which I posted on my IG if anyone's interested with captions in the perspective of a zombie apocalypse survivor. It's great. All in all a great start to the week.

Tuesday so far...

Today has been a resting day. I'm still working on my water drinking goal for the day, and I've been focusing more on the job searching. Tomorrow I plan to walk another two miles or so and start some bodyweight training (by the end of the week I'd like to be able to do at least ONE proper push-up haha). I'm looking forward to the rest of the week.

Additionally I wanted to include something I didn't write much about in my introductory post to this topic: In a year's time my goal is to enlist in the Air Force, and I'm not too certain about what to do to get to that goal in time. I know a lot about health (at least I like to think I do), but when it comes to what I need to do to see results & get where I need to be I'm absolutely clueless. If anyone has any tips, advise, or anything at all I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time for catching up on my adventures! If you'd like to follow me on IG to see my Zombies, Run adventure photos (which I will be constantly taking throughout my walks/runs) please feel free to shoot me a message. Stay safe out there, fellow rebels!

Good luck with the job hunt! As someone who tends to lurk rather than participate (I'm working on it) I liked the progressive goal of introducing yourself to at least co-workers. Making a place for yourself in an established group can be intimidating! And if you think you've had a horrific interview and need someone to commiserate with, let me know; I don't have many stories, but I still cringe a bit when I think of the ones I do have... and laugh. I have to laugh.

Also, you can count me as another fan of your writing  :D

It definitely is intimidating. I have social anxiety so the thought of meeting/talking to new people makes my heart race almost to the point of immobilization. I was invited to the bar last weekend by a stranger to hang out with him and a few friends, and I had a panic attack over it xD So definitely!

I appreciate the comments. I love comedy; friends always tell me I should be a stand up comic, but the second they say "stand up" I'm already exhausted of the job.

On a more serious note!

Wednesday

Today I decided to start the basic bodyweight training exercises, and man I'm glad no one was watching. I couldn't manage to do a single push-up so I resorted to doing them on my knees and not even that was easy. Definitely couldn't get myself all the way down (well when your stomach hits the ground before your chest or nose you have a problem). Don't even get me started on the lunges. It looked like I was suffering a knee injury and was trying to find something to lean up against while I fell to the floor. I think I managed to do one correctly? For some reason one side of my body can do them a whole lot better than the other. Any thoughts on how to ease my way into these things while still getting a good work out from it? The most successful part of this workout was my warmup because I decided to get some dancing in.

After the travesty that was my bodyweight training I kinda fell asleep for a little while 'til the sun started going down and it started to rain. That's when I wanted to go outside and do my 40 minute walk (it was 90 degrees out earlier in the day and that just doesn't sit well with me). It was very successful, I always enjoy my walks. I managed to walked a mile and a half, though for the entirety of the day I walked almost three miles, so yay me!

Side note: I'm starting to get desperate with the job hunting because I've ran out of food entirely, and I know the fact that I'm not eating is going to hurt my body more than it's going to help. I applied for SNAP, but I have yet to get the papers to verify my information and it's been over a week. I'm so stressed out because I also found out that my friend's lease ends at the end of September, and they're all leaving (my friend is moving to Canada), and I have no idea what I'm going to do.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!

This morning, for the first time since I started my walks, I ran! Well, I wouldn't really call it running. I jogged? It was at a very slow pace for jogging, but it was the same motions, and faster than I walk. My heart rate sky-rocketed, and I felt so good about my walk this morning. Another two and a half miles today (with three from yesterday morning). I've never been so excited to go out and walk like I have using the Zombies, Run app. Not only that, but it's inspired me to work on a writing project!

I want to write a zombie novel! Or, at least, a first chapter to see where it leads me. By immersing myself into this universe I've been able to see things from the perspective of a survivor, and I've been photographing my adventures. I've come up with a general premise that I'm very excited about, and that's going to be my project for today. That, and I have to read an entire book this weekend because I've yet to do that.

Job hunting is still difficult, and I've been turned down by three places so far. Desperate isn't even appropriate anymore.

It's been a terrific week. A few of my goals may need some editing based on my findings, but only minor things! I've been out walking practically every day, and always between 2.5-3 miles each. It's been a very inspiring journey so far, and it's only one week in! I had to sacrifice my phone's service in order to buy very basic groceries (I bought two dozens of eggs, some cans of tuna, sweet potatoes, a bag of chicken breast, and green beans). Nothing fancy, and only at a nearby convenience store since I don't drive to travel to an actual grocery store. It's a sacrifice I had to make because I'd rather lose service and only be able to use my phone with Wi-Fi than starve. I have no idea how long the groceries will last, but hopefully long enough. It's definitely not a nutrient-packed variety, but it'll get me by.

I actually cooked eggs and tuna for breakfast this morning. I didn't know how it would turn out, but the mixture was actually delicious. Definitely going to be treating myself to that more often.

Though I haven't read anything (I'm a failure on that side quest so far - though it may be changing), I have started working on a new zombie apocalypse-based novel. I actually have another topic in the Book Club inviting people to participate in the experience with me by allowing them to become characters (or make a character) in the universe. If you're interested in that, please check it out! I'd love to include you.  To finish up this "end of the week post" I'm going to post some of the pictures I've taken on my walks. I hope you like them!

You've had a fantastic week and I love your writing style.  Zombies, Run!  just sounds more fun when it's deserted out.  I think you're onto something there.

You might notice that someone has added a tag to your post.  This is not to box you into a corner but rather because your goals or lifestyle have links to the guild you've been tagged and we'd like to bring you to the attention of one of their guild ambassadors. These ambassadors will be able to offer you advice, encouragement and support on your goals.  You don't even have to wait around for them to come introduce themselves to you, you are more than welcome to pop into the Adventurers' board and introduce yourself to the guildies there. I am also around to answer any questions that you might have so do not hesitate to PM me.

Good Luck with your challenge

I'm so so sorry for not updating 'til now (and this isn't even an official update). I feel like it's too much stress to try to force myself to update every day and all that, and keeps me from being focused on the actual tasks. I apologize for that!

Things are pretty bad right now for me, especially now, and as a result I started a gofundme as an attempt to get me to Los Angeles, California (or at the very least try to survive with). The details can be found here! gofundme.com/5w5w6eyb48

You can also donate to my paypal if you'd like at izzyelewis@yahoo.com

I'm really sorry if I offend anyone by seeming like a beggar, and it's not my intention. I definitely don't want to pressure anybody into anything, but will humbly accept anything as well. You're a hero either way.

I'm not in a safe environment anymore, and I'm being stalked & threatened. I'm afraid for my life, and I've become desperate to get out of here.

Anyway, thank you again for taking the time to read about my story! Love you all!
