Didn't lift. End of update.

Just kidding. There was still lots of other stuff going on. Saturday morning was Baby Roo's first gymnastics class, which was kind of fun. She was super apprehensive about going out there by herself (and we've never been able to do a parent/tot class - they're all on weekdays at like 11:00 because the percentage of SAHMs around here is very very high), but Lil Roo broke off from his class for a minute to get her going, which she loved (because when you're two, there is nothing cooler in the world than your four year old brother). She did ok, but I'm not sure about the curriculum. They had the two year olds working on some pretty specific skills that (IMO) were beyond their ability to grasp. When Lil Roo was that age, his classes were more focused on just moving around and climbing stuff, with the occasional assisted roll or bar flip. That was before we moved though, at a much better gym. Then again, the regular coach was out, so it could be that the sub just didn't know how to work with kids that age. Either way, we'll keep her signed up, since the alternative is her sitting in our laps while we wait for Lil Roo, but I may explore the scheduling at the good gym in town (which is a lot farther from us).

The other thing that almost happened on Saturday was this:

6c663a7ad8b92245845c16c631f32a97.jpg

We were picking up some dog food and the rescue agency had set up shop, and we were dangerously close to adopting this little guy - had him out for a home visit and everything. Our pup has always had separation anxiety issues, but it's been worse since Mrs Roo left for a month. We had been thinking about a second dog, and when we saw this pup we almost pulled the trigger, but ultimately decided that with everything going on, adding a puppy to the mix would be too much. As soon as we settled on that decision, we both blinked and went "phew, what were we thinking?!"

Sunday was a beautiful morning, and we took the kiddos for a nice long ride. It bears repeating again - oof it's a lot harder when pulling the kids. It works out though, because my pace while pulling the trailer is right about what Mrs Roo can handle. The rest of the day involved shopping (Baby Roo managed to get a sweatshirt with crayons in the pocket into a laundry load of my work clothes - THIS IS MY VERY GRUMPY FACE), and meal prep/more playing with the kids. Also got a nice long dog walk in the evening where Lil Roo rode his balance bike the whole way.

The tl;dr week 1 recap is that everything going swimmingly except lifting three times a week, where I came up one short. Getting back on program this week.

Hey, some weightlifting stuff happened! had to spread out the d1 workout (work ran late yesterday), but the last two days consisted of this:

Got some bonus snatches and jerks in this morning too, cause you can never get enough reps in, amirite? Day max squats turned into PR squats, rawr. I had 295 on the bar (which would have been a PR), and 285 already felt slow, but I figured what the hell, and threw 5 more pounds on to try to hit 300. Bit of a grind, but got it.

In other news, I signed up for my next meet, 7 weeks out. September 19th at Sugar Creek Brewing Company, if you happen to be near Charlotte ;).

Badminton after work tonight - even got my own racket this time!

Classes for 2 yo kids? That's pretty amazing. Most kid things in my area don't start until at 6, 4 at the earliest. Good call though, gymnastics will get them moving properly :) Hope the next class is better.

Love watching your videos. And congrats on the PR!

Yeah, should be cool. The person most excited about that particular detail is Mrs Roo, who is hoping she'll be slightly less bored out of her skull, ha.

I was going to say - this might be a very convincing way to get Mr. Blueberries to go (as I'm sure Blueberries, herself, will want to attend)

Congrats on the PR!

Oh hey, I'm alive. I messed some stuff up last week, so took a few days off the internet to try and get my real life stuff straightened. Remember kids, take care of the people who really matter to you. I forget that sometimes.

Anyway, there was some weightlifting. Didn't get to any assistance work last week, but got the primary movements (sn/cj/sq) in, so that's a win. Worked up to heavy(ish) singles yesterday - looked something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aL_RTmx_js

First snatch miss at 70 since I was an idiot and just forgot to pull it or something. Went at 70 again and pulled it so hard that I almost missed it behind. Footwork still sucks, but still feeling optimistic. Feels like there's a lot of room there if I could just execute.

Jerks continue to feel sketchy at heavy weights, but I know it's completely mental - heaviest one yesterday was the best of the bunch. Just need to do more of them and get that confidence back.

Also, added some flavor to the RHOP this weekend:

Mrs Roo had gotten me a custom RHOP sign for our anniversary, and it finally came. Also saving a spot for a Team Hercules flag/banner for whenever J gets the logo finalized.

Also meant to come back to this. This week not so hot for Baby Roo at gymnastics. She ended up getting too upset so we didn't make her stay out there this week. We'll give it another try, but I'm not sure yet. Like I mentioned last time, I'm not sure the setup at this gym is best suited to kids that age, but we don't have a ton of alternatives. The bigger thing is just getting her comfortable being out there without us. That admittedly took Lil Roo a while too, so we'll see.

Meanwhile, somewhere there's a gym bro who can't touch his toes or squat these ladies' CJs railing against stretching because it "limits force potential" or some such.

Hiiiii I’m still here sort of!

Another week in the books, things going mostly according to plan. I won’t bother with specific workout details, but the highlight was a 78 kg snatch (for a 5kg PR).

http://instagram.com/p/6gTKiGk-rh/

J’s big coaching cue lately has been to think less and just move more aggressively. I missed once at 74 before finally taking that to heart – I just started giving zero fucks and pulling the shit out of the bar, resulting in makes 74, 76, and 78 (all PRs). I took 3 cracks at 80, but just couldn’t quite stick it. I still have footwork problems to work on too, but either way… pumped. For the first time, I feel like a bw snatch is actually within shouting distance (7 kilos to go). C&Js were a total cluster, but oh well – can’t win ‘em all.

Also, some of you saw this on the book of faces, but an update on the Baby Roo gymnastics adventure:

bfbe38094c955e796c98a54c8c4b0651.jpg

We bought her a leotard (which came with a matching one for her baby doll), and she looooooved it – just prancing around like a peacock. She was still apprehensive about going out without us, but we arranged with the coaches to let Lil Roo warm up with her class instead of his own, and that seemed to make everything better. Also a plus, the regular toddler coach was back, and she had a way better demeanor with the little ones. Baby Roo Had. A. Blast. On top of that, she actually picked things up really quickly. She’s always been the more athletic of the Roo-lets, but she surprised even me with how well she did. Fun stuff.

Back to the grind this week!
