Swatches Posted August 3, 2015 Report Share Posted August 3, 2015 Soo, since we're talking pushups...anyone know any exercises to help with getting full range (i.e. lower than 90 degrees) for full pushups, or/and exercises to help with pushing back up from going all the way down with knee pushups? I can't see the spreadsheet at work, but when I checked an hour ago Engineering was nearly taken care of (less than 100 left) but the other areas still needed some work (maybe 200 - 300 each.) I read Steve's NF primer (that jrosto linked above) and also started with my toes on the floor and my palms on the 4th stair of the staircase in my house. I gradually worked my way down from the 4th stair to 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and finally the floor. That way, I always did full range of motion. (It took me 14 weeks to get to a full set of floor pushups). So, the first day that I did a floor pushup, I was already accustomed to going until my chest hit the floor, and after that one floor push up, I still did 15 more pushups in that set, just back up on the first stair. It worked for me! I found that I didn't cheat the ROM if I allowed myself to go back up a step if I was tired - which seemed a better option for me. I went to an aerial park. (Ziplines, tree walking, wire bridge etcc). LOTS of fun. I loved it.But one bridge tried to take a piece of me for a souvenier. It teetertottered under me and my reaction time is just fast enough that I caught myself on the guide wires before my safety harness engaged. This lovely bruise is the result. I'm a bit late to the push-up party here, but I did recently make a video compiling all the different push-up modifications for altering the difficulty and the muscle groups. For you, incline push-ups may be best... negatives can be good as long as you think it's strength you're lacking (i.e., not a technique problem)... if/when knees get too easy, then you can consider straddle push-ups until you get the strength for floor push-ups. When you get too strong then there are even more alternatives you can try You can try wider arms and narrower arms - if the narrow ones are harder then your triceps are probably the weakest and need work. When you shared that you were going to the aerial park earlier, I got all excited because I remembered that last time I was in France, there was a place like that (admittedly, it looks quite a bit smaller than the place in the video you shared) down the street from where we're staying.
