Big_Show
Hello Rebels, long time no see! I'm currently halfway through my four week holiday back to the UK to visit my family. In accordance with the new challenge starting I have indeed been working on my new challenge, but only just got round to starting a challenge thread to go with it. Next April I shall be running the Brighton Marathon. I have accordingly planned out a 20 Week Training Programme, but I also planned a 20 week Pre-Marathon-Training-Training Programme to get me in shape to start it. This is currently week three of that plan. My challenges are simple and shorter for this one; I haven't actually worked out two of them, but I'll fill these in as I go along if any occur to me. The two I do have are quite simply: 1) Rebuild the running baseGradual increase in distance and duration over six weeks to get my legs used to regular training again. 2) Fitbit ChallengeHit 10,000 steps every single day. This is admittedly easier on running days, but on non-running days it still needs to happen. It's been a good week so far - I'll give a longer update of the week so far when I post tomorrow. Got plenty of other threads to hunt down first anyway so I can find out what everyone else has been up to! 3 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. skinNbones
Good luck with Marathon training . We were considering the London marathon in 2017 and it does seem difficult to work out long term training plans when planning ahead. So well done for working out two 20 week plans to get you there over a longer period. Big_Show
So here's my update of the week so far. Monday: 5.1M in 45:59 @ 8:54/mile average. Bit rubbish weather, but a nice enough run. Tuesday: 3.1M in 28:13 @ 9:04/mile average. Conversational run with my sister (which actually translates as me rambling on and her trying not to die. She ran her fastest 5k of the year without meaning to!) Wednesday: Day spent at the cricket. Thursday: Another day off. Friday: 5.0M in 46:07 @ 9:09/mile average. Nice scenic run across fields and over hills. That's the majority of this week's runs out of the way now, just Sunday morning's six miler left. Off on holiday with my family for a week from tomorrow, so this one will be a bit of a voyage of discovery. Hopefully I'll be able to find a couple of nice routes though. The plan for next week is basically more of the same, although with slightly longer run at the weekend and another mile added on to one of the weekday ones as well. This part of the plan is all about the incremental increases rather than big leaps. 1 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
WEEK 2! It's already week 2! How did your first week stack up, man?Good thanks, been meaning to get round to writing up a summary.I did my "long" run yesterday before we went out for the day - 6.1M in 55:19 @ 9:00/mile average. I'm finding the lack of pace disturbing, but that'll come back. This first training block is just all about getting base miles in and gradually increasing the time on feet.Week 2's plan is 2x5M, a 4M, and a long run on 7M at the end of the week. Gradual increments and all that.My long-running days have all hit at least 10,000 steps so that goal's in hand too.Other than that I'm enjoying my holidays - BBQ yesterday, beach trip today, exploring some local towns tomorrow 3 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. Once that is sorted the pace should increase naturally, and then I'll be ready for a weekly interval session again.Since my last post I've done another 5M run (with my sister this time) so I'm still on track to complete this week's planned training sessions.Still getting my 10k steps in on non-training days too. Also started a press-up challenge; 1 more every day, but starting off as 2 more a day as I play catch-up. Big_Show
10,000 steps done yesterday, along with 4 press-ups. Mini-boom.Another 5M related run this morning, solo this time. Found several footpaths that ended halfway across a field. Overall 9:05/mile pace - still felt like much harder work though.Off to the beach again this afternoon, with fish & chips for tea. Big_Show
Back from the family holiday now, one more week left in the UK. Spent the day in the car and still got a few thousand steps to go so I'm off for a walk after dinner.Been reading through the Academy workout info in preparation for when I get back to the sandpit. All looks good, just need an alternative to step-ups until I can find myself a more sturdy box. Any suggestions? 1 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. rowan
Yeah - step up lunges work for me, it's like most of the exercise. Also, if you're stepping and not jumping, a nice chair can do the trick! I have regular old folding chairs in my apartment, and they frequently double as exercise equipment. Also, you can have adventure outside time and find park benches and ledges and exciting outdoor things to step on! 1 Quote LEVEL ONE APPRENTICE WIZARD RANGER: HUMAN UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE Achievements Unlocked: Breakfast Warrior, Pushupapalooza, Quadruple Nanomaster, Return From the Dead, Gainful Employment, Leap of Faith, Minimalism Game, Get Thee Behind Me, Coffee, Camp Nerd Fitness 2015, Return From the Dead 2: The Undeadening, Gainful Employment 2: Boss Edition, Fancy Comics Person, Rogue Hair Tumblr of VERY INTERESTING ART: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/radicalwizardtimes Link to comment
Big_Show
Cheers guys - there are already some lunges in the workout but they're regular ones, so reverse lunges may well be the way forward.I don't trust any of my furniture with that kind of exercise, and I'm not heading outside if I don't have to!This morning I headed out for my long run. Faded over the summer second half of it as the heat got up a bit (why on earth would I not take water on a sunny day after what I'm used to now?!?) but job done - 6.8M in 1:02:48 @ 9:10/mile average. The goal is going to be to add 1km to my long run each week and see where this gets me.Currently making a nice big goulash for tea from the Hairy Dieters' cookbook, and afterwards I'll be going for another walk like yesterday. That's Week 2 done! Hit my running & walking targets while on holiday so pleased with that. Week 3 is my last one in the UK (fly back on Friday) so I'll make sure I get my long run done in the comfort of Blighty rather than leaving it until next weekend!
