The 30-Day Paleo Challenge Extravaganza!! (all the cool kids are doing it!)

Recommended Posts

Count me in!!!

I can't wait to get started!!

Yes! Me either!

I'm definitely incorporating this challenge into my January 6-week challenge. Great idea, guys!

LET'S GO!!!

w00t!

YES. HERE WE GO.

I'm super excited to get started on this! Good luck to everyone and thank you to bondgirl for starting this challenge.

Here. We. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm part of this!

Huzzah!

Hi! OK so here we go :D

5. And while it may be petty I want to run into my ex at some point and KNOW I look better than I did when I kicked him out.

I've been there, honey. You're ALREADY looking better, cuz you don't have that bum standing next to you anymore ;-) Way to go! Let's do this!

Ok I am in

The main reason I am needing to do this challenge is to kick myself in the pants and to show myself that I can kick ass like I once did...

I was in the US Army Infantry 21 years ago and while I wasn't one of the super soldiers

*brakes squeal* Lemme stop you right there. You were super, BECAUSE you were a soldier. Thank you for your service and kickassedness!

I understand though the need to show yourself that you can kick ass again - one of my reasons for doing this challenge. OORAH!

i'm in. (will write more later!)

Hooray!

I'm gonna be kinda lame and just follow this thread. For inspiration, because last week I decided to go on a paleo challenge in March, even excluding dairy, so let's see what happens. I'm going a long trip and mooching off my family so it'd be hard to be full paleo. Also, I'll be practicing it in the mean time so March can be successful. I can't wait to see how you guys handle it for inspiration.

We have a groupie! Yay!! ;)

I'm in!

I will allow myself a few small cheats because it's so hard to be strictly Paleo on my budget and with the lack of whole food stores around me. I shall do my best!

P.S. - Just got my copy of Robb Wold's The Paleo Solution in the mail. Gonna be reading it ASAP. :)

Score! It'll be really interesting to see your experience in Paleo, since you'll be on a budget. I feel like someone sent me a link to a blog, perhaps it maybe could've been called Broke Ass Gourmet? I'll see if I can find it for you, lots of tips on eating great on a budget, and quite humorous from what I remember.

I just got The Paleo Solution last night and didn't want to put it down! (But I had to sleep *sadface*)

***WARRIOR BATTLE CRY*** I AM PUMPED. RAWR! *tears phonebook in half*

So... I'm in on this!

Reason(s) why you're choosing to go Paleo and participate

I've been paleo-ish for a while... Back in September a lot of crap happened at once, including a diagnosis for an autoimmune disease. I want to get back to paleo and will be follow Robb Wolf's autoimmune protocol for January and then reintroducing foods one week at a time to see if I react to them at all. I want to see if doing this helps me get off the medications I'm on (specifically the prednisone), and handling the disease naturally rather than with steroids and toxins.

Personal goals you'll be working towards

My main goal is to get healthy, get off drugs and lose weight.

Starting stats (for example: gender, age, height, weight, bodyfat %, measurements, etc.)

Female, 36, 6'1, I'll weigh in on the 1st, but I know I'm somewhere around 300 (Yep, steroids and depression, I've gained nearly 50 pounds since September... :( )

Yes! I know what it's like to gain weight from medication and depression, it becomes a vicious cycle. We can do this!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of autoimmune disease do you have? I have Crohn's and I know at least one other person on here also has it. Perhaps something similar like IBS, colitis or otherwise? (Feel free to message me to chat if you don't want to reply on here)

I've got Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis, which is a small blood vessel disorder... basically, my small blood vessels are inflamed and destroying themselves, thankfully it's just in my skin, which means I get a nasty rash that depending on the location either itches or just plan hurts. They've tried taking me off the steroid, but every time they do, I flare up. So now, they've got me on basically a toxin that is supposed to stop the inflammation. :(

WooHoo! Tall chicks rock.

Haha, I think so too!

I know we've already talked about it... but it's time to kick it in the ass with paleo.

Oooh, I think that should be my new tagline...

I dare you.

Next challenge I will be continuing my Paleo lifestyle, with fewer cheats (gonna try and eliminate beer) and more meats (more types, not really more volume). So count me in.

Why? I want to be a health coach of sorts sometimes in 2012. I can't be taken seriously if I don't have my own stuff in check.

Goals: drop another 10 lbs during next challenge, get squat and deadlift to body weight, and be able to do a half dozen pushups.

Stats: XY, 22, 5' 7", 192 lbs. I don't have other measurements because I base my progress on what I see in the mirror each morning.

I know the feeling - they gave me steroid creams and stuff for my eczema and it just destroyed my skin just as bad as the eczema itself. It's almost like getting poison ivy perpetually once I start getting itchy again. lol

Hmm... I really want to do this. I've been trying to stay primal for a bit. I did a full Whole30 back in September, but coming off of it was hard for me. And I've got this ridiculous budget I have to live under for the month of January. I need to take a look at what will be different for me primal vs paleo, I could certainly use the kick in the ass right now. I've been working out like crazy and slacking on the food.

Okay, I've been lurking for a while, but it's time to get on board.

- Reason(s) why you're choosing to go Paleo and participate

In November 2010, I found out I was Type 2 Diabetic. I'm 6'2" and I would hover anywhere between 265 and at my heaviest 280.

After learning more about diabetes I started watching what I eat and walking 3-4 times a week - no whites basically - no sugar, bread, rice, pastas - lot's of meat's and veggies.

In the spring I decided to run my first 5k because I was losing motivation. I started running 3 miles, 3-4 times a week. It was hard. I've never liked distance running, even back in high school. It took me a while to learn to pace myself. Two months later I ran two 5k's at 232lbs.

That felt like a huge accomplishment to me, and while I tried to keep running, i started to hate it. So I bought the rebel fitness guide and I've been strength training and interval training for the past several months.

Then the holidays hit and I've been completely bad the past 6 weeks and my blood sugar is completely out of whack. Too many sweets, fast food on the run, and overall indulgence in things I know I shouldn't have. I'm back up to 248lbs, exhausted all the time and I feel like crap. It's time to whip myself back into shape.

- Personal goals you'll be working towards

Hoping to drop 10-15lbs, but my ultimate goal over the next 30 days is to get my fasting blood sugar below 100. Currently it's at 160.

- Starting stats (for example: gender, age, height, weight, bodyfat %, measurements, etc.)

6'2", 248lbs. BF% TBD

Alright. I've thought about it, I'm in. Hopefully you all won't mind a relative newbie to the forum joining. :)

- Reason(s) why you're choosing to go Paleo and participate

First and foremost, I know it works for me. I've done the whole30, I know that I can do it, I just don't necessarily like it. But I didn't get the lesson the first time so I need to do it again. I know the food that makes me feel good, that makes me feel stronger..... I have to stop pretending it isn't so. Also, I'm over counting calories.

- Personal goals you'll be working towards

Obviously eat paleo, as clean as my budget will allow. I also need to keep at my gym days, weights three times a week, cardio twice with an added day for roller skating. Years of training have me wanting to set some sort of "pounds lost" goal here but I'm resisting the urge to do that. This challenge is more about me and my food issues than weight.

- Starting stats (for example: gender, age, height, weight, bodyfat %, measurements, etc.)

F, 33, 5'1", 206.2lbs. Measurements and stuff here: http://jefit.com/members/?xid=346995

Just typing that makes me frown, I've gain 8 pounds back since I did my last paleo challenge. Coming off is always hard for me because I Feel deprived. I need to find a way to prevent that this time. I don't know that I've ever posted any of this info on a forum before. *hides*

- "Before" pics (optional, but encouraged)

I'll try to take new ones, tho the ones at the link above are just about the same weight now.

So, there. I'm ready. I've come too far to not do this. I've worked too hard.

I'll be starting my log tonight after the gym. :)

WooHoo! Tall chicks rock.

I second this. Example: actress Adrianne Palicki, who is about 6'0" I think, and positively gorgeous.

So count me in.

YES.

Okay, I've been lurking for a while, but it's time to get on board.

Heck yes!

-Reasons for doing this. I am doing a Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash this year as well as maybe a 5k or 2. I have been overweight for too long and want to be a good role model for my son. Plus look good just cause!

Fantastic! I'm doing the Warrior Dash in May, and want to do a Tough Mudder as well. You've got some excellent reasons (being a good role model trumps all, especially when it's for your kid). Welcome!

Healthy me here I come! :-) Good luck everyone!

Even more yes!

Hmmm.... tempted to try this... I have the Paleo Solution on the way, could read it while trying it, good for motivation. Need to clear it with the boyfriend though, as he does so much of the cooking... we'll see. :)

Awww, c'mon. Look at the title - all the cool kids are doing it ;)

I'll put it this way - you won't regret it if you try it!

Alright. I've thought about it, I'm in. Hopefully you all won't mind a relative newbie to the forum joining. :)

Woohoo! Welcome welcome! And we LOVE newbies :D

**Welcome everyone! I'm getting SO excited! And I'm so so so happy to see how many of us are participating in this challenge. Can't wait to get this party started!!**

So I realized I never posted my OWN intro post - ha!

Reason(s) for participating:

- Nothing else has worked for me (I haven't stuck with anything else, to be frank), and this could end up being just the kick in the ass I need to get me on my way to awesome.

- I'm participating in the Warrior Dash this May and want to be able to say, "I kicked ASS," instead of, "I survived." It's the first organized athletic event (besides sports as a kid) that I'll be participating in, and I'm super excited.

- I want to get my diet cleaned up and not feel gross anymore. I want to feel as awesome as I know I can be ;)

Personal goals:

- No cheating. This means working on my willpower and self discipline. I have a support group, including my BFF - she's my archenemy, Steve inspired this - and my parents.

- Complete The Paleo Solution and Good Calories, Bad Calories. Both have got me hooked so far!

- Develop - and stick to! - an exercise routine that will include bodyweight exercises, running (and by running I mean working on being able to run longer), and strength training. Perhaps will follow the Rebel Fitness Guide (I need to finish reading it anyway).

- Don't skip scheduled workouts. Workout 4-5 times a week (2 strength, 2 running, 1 bodyweight).

Starting Stats:

Female, 24, 5'8", 228.7lbs, ~38% bf (I'll be checking this again on Sunday for a more accurate number)

Before pics *cringe*:
