The 30-Day Paleo Challenge Extravaganza!! (all the cool kids are doing it!)

Recommended Posts

bondgirl, thanks for getting this going. and perfect timing to work into january's 6-week (or 7-week?) challenge. i'm super excited!

No thanks necessary, but you are more than welcome. It's really been a collaborative effort. I started it as my own challenge, and was SO thrilled to see other people hop on board with me. I'm so glad you're participating, and can't wait to get the ball rolling!

More tall females (actresses) here. (Tricia Helfer, Lucy Lawless, and Famke Janssen, oh my!)

Another, more comprehensive list here. I think Casie Leigh Shepherd is good motivation for figure competitions. At 6'2". Holla!

Being TALL doesn't mean we have to be BIG.

I am in! This was already going to be part of my NYResolution/first challenge anyways. So PERFECTO!

Create an introduction post to this thread, and include:

- Reason(s) why you're choosing to go Paleo and participate:

Well. I did it the first time early this year just to prove I could and lost over 20lbs and then stopped and gained it all back and now I feel like complete crap. And I know it's sheer laziness that is preventing me from doing it again. Which I hate cause I felt so much better doing Paleo. I felt healthier, and my attitude was better. It was just a great thing for me and I hate that I let it go. So.. AT IT AGAIN FOR REALS AND STICKZIES THIS TIME!

- Personal goals you'll be working towards:

No grains. That's all I am focusing on this month. And getting into a workout routine.

- Starting stats

Female. 23. 5'9. Approx 200 lbs. I will post pics in a little bit.

AGREED. Those tall ladies are so gorgeous! I'm only 5'8", but am taller than many people I know, including both my parents, haha.

I am 5'9 and I am taller than A LOT of people I know. My dad is 6'2 but the rest of my family is relatively short.

This is awesome, I'm so excited for it!!

I just turned 22 in December, and was one of those super-athletic girls in high school. In my first two years of college I played rugby but had to have surgery on my shoulder and I never got back into anything athletic, until this fall. Now, I'm 5'8", 157 lbs with a BF of 34% (using calipers, not sure how accurate it is since it is the first time I've done it). I've followed a paleo diet in the past, specifically this fall on and off but kept falling off the wagon, specifically when I got mono.

I will be posting pictures on my workout log, which I guess I will be using as my food log too!

My main goal is to be comfortable with who I am. Even when I was in high school and athletic I was never comfortable with who I was or how I looked. In March I am going to Puerto Rico with my boyfriend (the Vegas trip with my friends fell through :( ) but this summer my friends all want to go somewhere warm to celebrate our graduation, which will require me to shed my typical hoodie and baggy pants that hide the areas I don't want to be seen.

I'm with Loren--going to be making it part of my goals for the upcoming 6/7 week challenge for the whole time as opposed to just the month of January.

I'm really excited to be doing this with so many others!!!

- Starting stats (for example: gender, age, height, weight, bodyfat %, measurements, etc.)

- "Before" pics (optional, but encouraged)

hey all, i'm glad to be joining you all in this quest! i've been looking at my diet on and off for years now and, after reading "the paleo solution" this past week or two, i figure the only thing left is for me to just dive right in and give this a try. my boyfriend and i will be trying out a pretty strict paleo diet for 30 days (starting on january 2nd).

the reasons behind choosing to go paleo are numerous. one, i know that i am addicted to carbs and sugar and i grew up eating alot of those things. two, i want to look/feel better and develop good health and fitness habits i can keep long term. and three, i have some semi-undiagnosed stomach issues that i am hoping will be helped by a paleo diet. some of these issues are likely genetic (from my dad) and i have the far-off hope that if i find a way of eating that helps me control the symptoms, i will be able to help my dad improve his quality of life as well.

my goals are fairly vague at this point since i think paleo will be a challenge in an of itself. but, in addition to eating a paleo diet for 30 days, i plan to go to the gym at least 3 days a week.

my starting stats are: 27 year old female, about 5'4", about 155 lb, and about 27.5% body fat. the weight and body fat were taken a couple weeks ago so they might have changed a bit.

i don't plan to take before pics or measurements since, in the past, i have gotten a little overwhelmed with numbers and it's gotten me down when things didn't go as i hoped. but i do have some jeans i can't currently fit into (size 10) that would be great if i could wear again :)

i plan to start a thread to track my meals and maybe exercise for the 30 days from january 2nd to february 2nd. really looking forward to getting started!

Well, if the rest of the Awesome Tall Girl Brigade is in, then I definitely have to join! I've been eating probably 70% paleo for about a month now, with awesome results - 10 pounds lost in the last 3 weeks!

My goal is to get a little stricter about my cheats. So, I'll be keeping my milk in my morning coffee, but making sure that I stay paleo when I go out to eat, or have dinner with my family. My parents are both trying to lose weight/get healthier, and I've encouraged them to cut out grains, so I also want to cook one paleo meal per week with them. Considering how much time I have to exercise, and the results I've gotten so far, I think losing another 15 pounds by the end of the 6-week challenge is a reasonable goal. I'm also going to be including this as one of my six-week challenge goals!

Starting stats:

Female, 6'0 tall, 256 lbs, 39" waist (measured at natural waist).

Level 2 Amazon Warrior

STR 4 - DEX 2 - STA 3 - CON 2 - WIS 3 - CHA 2

I'm STOKED.

My mom was going to do this with me and tonight over dinner she told me, "Oh I'll just wait till Monday. I don't believe in New Year's resolutions."

I told her it isn't one. It's a challenge that starts on the first. Oh well. I can already see her making excuses and it breaks my heart. BUT I'M READY.

At the very least, I'm going to set an example.

Have you delved into the new blog system yet?

Way to go! I'm happy for you! I'm sure once she sees your amazing progress she'll want to jump on board with us :-)

I haven't had a chance yet to dig into those new blogs, but I'll definitely be checking them out later today to see if it's something better the challenge could use besides the threads :-)

Alright everybody! Time to move this shindig over to the blogs.

The new system should definitely let us all keep track of our individual progress, as well as see everyone else's, without flooding the forum threads. It should all be much more organized and easier to manage. You're all more than welcome to post in this thread, but I think--like the workout logs--it'll be moving to the Archives, since all challenges are moving to the blogs.

The blog system will be new to all of us, so please bear with each other as we all get it figured out and find a good system that works for our challenge. I'm really excited to subscribe to everyones' blogs! I'll be starting my own as soon as I finish this post. If you haven't already, I highly encourage you to read the post by spezzy explaining the categories and tags you'll need to use in each of your blog posts. We want to be able to find everyone!

If any of you have questions about the move, or the challenge, or you just wanna say hi,please feel free to PM me at any time! So excited!!!

I'm participating and going Paleo because I've heard good things about it from friends. I want to challenge myself and see if this is something I can do. I have been regularly working out but I am sooooo BAD when it comes to eating healthy. I'd like to start eating better and encouraging my daughter to eat and live a healthier life with me. A healthier you is a better you! This is definitely going to be a challenge for me. My main goal is to tone, build strength and trim down my middle.
