Dog reporting for duty!

Recommended Posts

Woof to all you great people from the Rebellion!

I'm so happy I found this website, I have tried getting healthy in the past, but I had so little in common with the people who usually frequent fora on health/sports sites. So here's to hoping we all will get along better, because I love nerding things up! :)

Okay, so more about the person behind the name. I'm a 22 year old girl (pretty old for a dog, huh?), I love gaming (RPGs and point and click games all the way!), boardgames, watching movies and series and drawing. I'm also learning how to play guitar. I'm a total Potterhead and The Elder Scrolls geek. I study biomedical sciences (basically: research on human diseases), already have a bachelor's and I'm busy in the second and final year of my master's now. I'm totally terrified of what the future has in store for me, as I have no clue if I'll be happy as a crazy scientist. But time will tell!

As said before, I've tried to adopt a healthier lifestyle in the past, but it's been difficult. My boyfriend and I have been living together for 4 years and we both love eating and being lazy. Mainly unhealthy stuff, haha! French fries, hamburgers, spare ribs, nomnom, you name it! I've tried to eat healthier but when he has a big pile of meat on his plate and I only have some salad and a small piece of meat I get envious and fall back into my old habits. I've followed 2 5K running programs before (a Belgian one and Zombies, Run 5K training) but I quit right before making it to 5K due to losing interest in it. I'm not terribly overweight, I am usually around 136 lbs, but I would like to feel better in my own skin and feel proud when looking in the mirror and not have stuff flubber around  I want to get a bit 'tighter' so to say and lose some weight around the typical girl areas (thighs, butt, belly) as well as getting a bit stronger! 120 lbs is my 'goal' weight, but if I look fit and toned while weighing a bit more than that, that's completely fine.

I am not sure which path to take, but so far I'm leaning towards Assassin because 1. I love sneaky characters in games and 2. I am interested in body weight exercises! I also hope to find some accountabilibuddies here, but I see there's a special topic for that. I also have some questions about the beginner body workout, but I think I should ask them somewhere else?

Love you all!

Dog

Hello Dog ^0^

What style of guitar are you learning?? I've been playing for 5 years now and I LOVE it!

I also love body weight routines hahaha They are so simple and you can do them anywhere! That means no gym membership ;)
Yeh I have had lots of trouble changing my diet in the long term too. But I signed up to a 6 week challenge (there's a new one coming up soon!) and have stuck to my guns so far

If you have any body weight training related questions you can ask them here, in the 'Body Weight Training' section under FITNESS SPECIALITIES or probably in general fitness? But I can answer them here if you want

Hey Ulfgard, fun to see a fellow fur here! :D I'm sure I'm going to love it here! I get a bit confused navigating the forum but I think that'll get better in time, haha. So much to read! I certainly plan to participate in the next challenge, although I am not sure what my goal for that challenge should be. I'll see what I can come up with :) Thanks for the warm welcome!

Hey Aardvark! (love aardvarks btw, they're so cute!) So far I'm still doing the beginner course from Justin Guitar (not sure if you've heard of him?) but I plan to play rock/metal/some pop. What about you? :) What guitar do you have? And exactly, I love the fact that I can do the body weight workout just about anywhere and that I don't have to drag my butt to an (expensive) gym. Also, the gym is quite far away from where I live since I live in the middle of nowhere, for Dutch standards! :D I found the subforum for body weight training and asked my question there :)

Good idea actually, to make the 6 week challenge a diet-related one! I think I'll do that, thanks!

Hahahahaha I don't even own my own guitar yet HAHAHAHHA I actually use my mum's old guitar - it's like 30yrs old now. But I have been learning 5 years of classical/fingerstyle. Its good fun but sometimes pieces are not interesting. I actually play heaps of fingerstlye game theme tabs from gametabs.net aswell :)

I am also starting a blues/rock band with my brother and some mates. Mostly rolling stones, the black keys, jet type stuff. so I'm upping my game with a pick.

I haven't actually heard of Justin Guitar sorry :(

Also another reason I love body weight training is that you use alot of muscles in functional ways, and there's plenty of progressions

Wow awesome! I've watched some videos about classical guitar and it's wayyyy different than 'normal' guitar! Very cool though :) I've heard that age can make a good guitar sound even better, so don't feel bad about owning a 30 y/o guitar! The well kept old guitars in my local guitar store are all worth a bunch of money, haha, so don't think it's inferior just because it's old :D I'd love to learn some game music too, but I feel like I should first learn the basics before trying anything else, haha.

You should look up Justin Guitar (google), he has a LOT of lessons online and it makes learning guitar very fun and easy. He also has lots of videos on how to play songs and best of all: it's all free! You can choose to donate or buy some of his merch but it's not necessary. He's the best :D

Yes exactly, I love seeing how I will progress through time and how each exercise gets easier. I'm really looking forward to my first set of proper push ups too, instead of the girly push ups I have to do now :P

Yeh it sounds really great, it actually has a very good soundboard because the grain is so tight.
Thanks for the heads up with Justin guitar. It looks pretty good aye :triumphant:

And yeh its an awesome feeling when you get that exercise or that certain rep count :joyous:

Also as a side note: If you are interested by parkour or free running, why not try it!! start at your own level exploring what you can and cannot do, then work on the things you can't yet do ^0^

I did not intend to do parkour or anything of the like but it does look awesome. I might try that in due time :) GL with your guitar things, hope Justin can explain you some cool things you didn't know before!

I just saw that you are also interested in guitar playing. That's awesome! Justin i really good for the start, but I would suggest that you later on try to find more different approaches an see what you like best. At some point a teacher might be a good idea as well - that is my experience after a few years of guitar playing!

My boyfriend is a great teacher - he's been playing for 9 years now and kicks ass! :) But to not bother him too much and to get myself familiar with the basics I will stick to Justin for now. But thanks for the ideas! :D
