I've been on NF now since the end of May and have been enjoying following a workout program and actually seeing progress.  Now though, I like the idea of actually using a workout program to achieve a goal I've had since I was a teenager which is to be able to dunk. Rather fortuitously, it seems that this should fit in quite well with my existing training regime (especially if I actually manage to start playing a bit more again).

Unfortunately I still don't have access to a barbell so won't be able to do back squats, but by following my existing startbodyweight program, I will be able to continue with bodyweight squats, and just add in the Ankle Bounces at the start of every other workout.

 

Realistically I will need to add about 8 inches to my vertical which is not going to happen in a single 6WC challenge, but let's just see where this gets us, or if it's even achievable.

 

Corndogs, Jackie! Corndogs, for all these people!  (Main Quest )

Gain 20kg over 18 months, build some actual muscle and get fit enough to complete 1 hour of aerobic exercise without dying.

 

Look Jackie, people can't just go flying into the air like that !

Aim to increase my Jump height with a goal to eventually be able to dunk ! : +1 DEX per inch increase ( ... in jumping - get your minds out of the gutter ...)

 

Get up and run, Coach! - Continue Cardio Days + 2 STA

Aim to run or complete some form of cardio or conditioning workout on 'rest' days. I need to keep my motivation up on this, now we've not got any runs coming up.

Realistically, an actual dunk is probably at least 12 weeks away ( probably more like 3 cycles). It seems I have a lot of work to do before I even get back to my previous jump height.

Made it to basketball training last night for the first time in ... like ... years.

Today I am suffering.

I think I injured my knee and/or right calf so that is going to take some time to recover. Hopefully won't derail week 1 too much , but I'll at least have to make today a rest day.

Cheers guys, feeling almost better now, I'm just suffering with DOMs now. You'll see that 'Main Quest' was to get up to 1 hour of exercise without suffering, so maybe 2 hours of training in my 3rd challenge was a bit too much. I'm just going to carry on though !

In more bad news my bike got stolen on Thursday (I cycle the station - just a quick 10 minutes each way).  Proper annoying, but also spooky. When reporting it to the police I found the receipt and discovered I'd had it exactly 2 years, like to the day !

Well Week 1 so far has been a bit of a failure. I am so annoyed at myself for overdoing it and hurting my knees last week. I'm still limping around and it even hurts to try and take more than one step at a time. I've discovered that these old trainers I fished out of a bargain bin , years ago - which I've been using for running, as they're my only trainers at present - are actually Nike Free's, barefoot running shoes. So good for running - really bad for Basketball (no cushioning - on purpose). I feel like a bit of an idiot, especially seeing as I'm meant to be a Fitness Nerd now, and should have known.

However, I have started swimming, and that is a good way to get exercise, and nothing hurts in the water, so that's something.

 

Weight Gain - My weight had dipped, but recovered a little today, back to 71.5

Jumping - Nothing at all

Cardio - Nothing on Monday, but now I'm going to keep swimming (even on BW days) so A (so far)

Squat Challenge - fail.

Domestic Responsibilities : Made a good start with some sorting, and Minimalism Game progress, but no start on the Window Seat yet.

How's the knees, brotha? Swimming FTW! You play basketball??? Swimming is especially good because it's low impact-so keep it up sir! Keep you're head up high too, it's only week one and there's still so much you can kickass on :)
