Fortuositea
Next challenge, let's go! Why sharks? Why not! Sharks are cool. Sharks are social creatures. I want to be more involved with people. No reason to be shy, right? This challenge, I am going to read YOUR topics more than I read my own. I am going to follow and comment and support. Sharks keep moving. It's a myth that a shark will die if it stops swimming, but it is true that they need to keep water flowing over their gills in order to breathe. I am going to be a shark and keep moving. This will be a balancing act. I have so many hobbies! I have so many interests! Sometimes I get lazy or drag my feet about things, and I can't do all the things I want to or need to do, and that bums me out, big time. This is especially true about working out - no more spending half an hour trying to figure out the "best workout" or the "best route" when I only have 45 minutes to work out! Just do it! I'm going to stop dragging my feet. I will get things done and then move on to other things. Sharks cover great distances. I'm still adding to my Mordor mileage, and I'll be adding long runs (over 2 miles) with my sister once a week to my schedule. During the week I'll keep it under two miles. I'm aiming for 8 miles a week. Apparently, the average shark speed is 5 mph, so I'm going to throw in some treadmill runs to see if I can't push myself to run that fast, even for 30 seconds. Mainly, I want to just go after the things I want instead of just sitting around waiting for them to come to me. 1 Quote Currently Walking / Biking / Hiking to Mordor On my way to Rivendell: 208.14 / 458 miles "I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." Fortuositea
Man, I'm reading other people's challenges and I'm like... maybe I'm taking it too easy on myself?! Let's add some more structure: Goal #2: In an effort to just keep moving, I should probably come up with a list of options for when I slouch on the couch and can't think of anything else to do... I have no upper body strength. I am going to do pushups every day. Also, TWO strength workouts and ONE yoga session each week. Each workout has to be more than twenty minutes, and I will not allow myself to drag my feet about it. Goal #3: THREE shorter weekly runs or walks, and ONE long weekend run. 1 Quote Currently Walking / Biking / Hiking to Mordor On my way to Rivendell: 208.14 / 458 miles "I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." awesomesue
Cool theme for sure! Just make sure you are not comparing your goals to someone else's. If it is a challenge for you then forget whether it is a challenge for someone else. This is your challenge. You can definitely rock those goals. I am so excited to watch your challenge. You have got this! 1 Quote Food Fight - current challengeYeary Bug Count 0... if you are out and about then you are probably eating bugs. 2015 - 22.5 bugs consumedChasing down the most awesome version of myself one step at a time. The Character Battle Log 1 Daily Mile Link to comment
Fortuositea
Good point! I realized my goals were sort of an amorphous blob and I will probably do better if I set up more structure. I have grand plans and great intentions but if I don't figure out what I want and come up with a plan of how to get it, I won't be going anywhere!
I am so like you! I have the big picture and then fun things to accomplish too. I get so focused on those I forget that first I need to tackle the bigger picture and focus less on the extras. Sure the extras can help but I had to put down on paper the big goal and steps needed. Then I looked at the extras and the steps needed. Only then did I realized that I needed to do some big picture stuff before incorporating specific things of the fun things/extras. Horse before the cart kind of thing. LOL When I focus on all the extras too much that is when I see my challenges that seem good to me turn into giant piles of muck that I end up stuck. Your goals are good and you will do great! Structure certainly helps. Fortuositea
I'm SOOOOOO shy - I am so nervous about talking to other people. When I'm typing a response to someone's topic, I usually type two or three different ways of saying the same thing before I decide on one that is the least weird or dorky. You should see me try to write a blog post. My husband is like, "I hear you typing, and then I hear you backspace and delete the whole thing. Over and over and over." I'm not sure why I'm so worried about it - I think I had a bully or two when I was younger who picked apart things I said and made me scared to talk at all for fear of looking stupid. Actually, I'm sure I had a few crappy friends who did the same. I work with about ten other people (firefighters), and this weekend we all went to a memorial ceremony for September 11th, and afterwards, I walked up to a few of them who were talking to other people... I just couldn't break into the conversation, OR they actually just turned and walked away from me. So, yeah. That makes me feel like a HUGE boring weirdo. I just don't know what to say to people! I'm so awkward!! Eventually I just gave up and left. So.... it seems that the social goal is working out more online than in real life? Ugh.
Keep Moving: Doing ok here. I haven't spent too much time wasting time lately! I've been reading for book club, and coloring a lot. Yes, coloring! I've been trying to keep my house a bit cleaner as well, but not allowing myself to let go of something until it is in the place it should be. For instance - dirty clothes? Right to the dirty clothes bin, not on the floor. 3.8 miles yesterday! Ran a 5K with my sister, and the rest was made up with walking in support of a friend doing an Ironman (she dedicated 3.8 miles to me, so I ran 3.8 for her!) Strength/Yoga: Nothing today. Need to recuperate from the 5K yesterday. I did 10 wall pushups this morning and will probably do a few more sets throughout the day.
Yeah I have those socially awkward feeling moments too. Same stuff has happened. I have been at my job for so long now and I am in a position that everybody knows me I am the one that has to bridge people and all that. Still I have those off times and feel like I do not fit in so embrace that inner weirdo! I have learned to wonder off and do my own thing. Someone finds it interesting they will ask. Being more open about my goals and interests (yes that makes me feel rather insecure/vulnerable) has helped. When someone sees I have a common goal even if they are all kinds of amazing it still gives them something to chat with me about. From there being willing to ask for advice or share a goofy thing I did also helps. People see my excitement and do not always look at me with that yeah right look or that is funny someone my size has these ambitions. Most end up amazingly supportive. Hey it is the beginning of the challenge. Keep at it and I am very confident you will get there! Keep Moving: Doing ok here. I haven't spent too much time wasting time lately! Before we had our kiddo my husband and I would sit and color. It used to creep friends out when they saw we had crayons and coloring books that we let their children use for entertainment.. Shoot we still have a slinky we play with and bought our daughter her own. LOL We still color with kiddo and on our own from time to time. That entire running things is fantastic. Good for the wall push ups. I am actually going to do a bit of yoga at lunch for fun. LOL Maybe you can find some place to do one or two poses. One really good pose is worth it. Kagetsukai shared a great link on Stricklands challenge although I know you also have NF Yoga. Still variety and options are nice. Fortuositea
Last night, this socially awkward shark went out with some pseudo-coworkers and had a blast. We work in the same building but are not in the same department. Thumbs up for getting out there and doing something fun! I haven't gone for a run since Sunday which feels crappy. I could say that I've had too much to do, which, while true, is not a good excuse. I plan to take advantage of the lovely weather today and run 2 miles tonight. I also have to do some grocery shopping and house cleaning. My cousin is getting married tomorrow, so I will do my yoga session at the hotel tomorrow night. #thebestlaidplans 1 Quote Currently Walking / Biking / Hiking to Mordor On my way to Rivendell: 208.14 / 458 miles "I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." Fortuositea
I think it was just dehydration? Not sure what was up with it, I wound up feeling much better after my 12 hour nap. The wedding was awesome, I danced my butt off. This shark got off her socially awkward butt and had a great time dancing and hanging out with family. Lots of dancing and moving on Friday, followed by a night's stay on the most uncomfortable bed in all of existence at the hotel after the wedding. On Saturday I went to a nearby historic village with a friend and we did lots of walking. The village was open and there were lots of people dressed up in period pieces from the late 1800's showing us what life would have been like. It was really neat! So, no running, but plenty of walking and moving, and not so much bad eating. I'll put that in the "unintentional win" column.
Week 2, Day 1 Goal #1: Social! Made plans to go to a concert with a friend who REALLY loves this band I've never heard of- at least I'll be able to do some dancing. Goal #2: Keep Moving! Got in ten pushups, but I want to do more. Is ten a day enough to see a difference in six weeks? I was planning a yoga workout after my run last night. Listened to my body instead of my brain & just took it easy. While I'm at work, I'm super motivated to do stuff but obviously can't do the things, and then when I get home, all I want to do is veg. Must be a mental thing. Weekly Pushups: 1/7 14%14% Weekly Strength Workouts: 0/3 Yup, not really going anywhere with that one. Goal #3: Super Shark Speed! Weekly run #1 done: 2 miles, and the last quarter mile was at 5mph. Yeah, that's probably why I was so tired. Kicking up the speed!Weekly Runs: 1/4 25%25% 1 Quote Currently Walking / Biking / Hiking to Mordor On my way to Rivendell: 208.14 / 458 miles "I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
