YellowRose runs into an ugly sweater

Hello there I'm YellowRose and i'm back on NF after a rather long break. so lets get to it....

SMART GOALS!!!!

1.Specific

Two part goal,

get down to my happy weight

Run more (and run this Ugly Sweater dec 12)

2. Measurable

133lbs (+/-5lbs)

Continue to build on speed (3m time currently 33min, get faster, say 27min)

then build on distance (3m w/out stopping, once obtained speed above, increase distance this is a soft metric)

3. Attainable

currently 142lb (loose 9lbs) so not far off here but i really dont want to loose muscle, additionally i dont like restricting calories while im building any kind of athletic ability. I'll be looking to loose less than a pound a week, say 0.5lbs or less. as long as I'm slightly decreasing my weight i'll consider this goal met. bi-weekly measurments.

track my 3ml times, share and post my times, run at least 3 times aweek. note will use MAPMyRUN or my watch to measure my speed. (new watch is a future budget item, current one is broken)

4. Relavant

I like the way my close fit when i'm about that weight, i bought all my post maternity clothing when i was about that weight. so lets get back to it.

all so i like to be strong and have well working muscles. runners high is good for my soul.

5. Time Bound

For the next 6weeks or so i'd like to have a negative weight differential over each bi-weekly measurment, so say loose 3lbs by the end of 6 weeks.

run 3m in 27min in 6weeks.

Last week while running (barefoot) after the child who decided to run into the street i ended up bruising my heel so i didn't get in my third run on thurs/fri. Spin class over the weekend didn't bother it but I've been keeping off my feet and wearing shoes at all times.

the bruise is probably 60% better, i was worried it would get aggravated if i ran .... BUT i ran yesterday and it wasn't really an issue. what was an issue was that yesterdays run was longer than last weeks run 33min vs a solid 34min. . . . not a big deal  but frustrating.. running through this was also a little disturbing Baby Doe's Candle light vigil

Weight: Next week

Speed: 34min/min (+1min or +20sec/mile)

Unfortunately, I am not even close… I'm in Germany. But it might do it if I would be in the area, it looks fun! I might even do all the running in an ugly jumper. :D

I think it was probably more than just a little disturbing… :(

Freaks me out how sick and twisted people can be.

Makes me just want to hug and hold my kids, never letting go … the mere thought of something bad happening to them makes me go mental. *shudder*

How is your foot? Did you get some training in for the "ugly jumper"? ;)

Hehe it makes me giggle when someone calls a sweater a jumper. not sure why

Foot is still bruised its taking longer to heal than i thought it would.

i forgot to weigh myself this morning, which i was rather dreading i had 3 pieces of cake at a party over the weekend they were so good!! but between the cake and prepping my meals weekend before last my diet has not met my protein goals and more than a moderate amount of calories. I felt it in my run over the weekend i didn't have much pick up/ gas in my tank. nothing hurt much and my lungs didn't give out (which tends to be my limiting factor) just was really tired during my run. my weekend run was 34min which is still +1min of my baseline run.

so ill run again this afternoon and weigh myself tomorrow morning before breakfast.

Talked over running technique with a friend he recommended longer runs and I've been debating some sprint training at the local track i think ill try that out Wednesday or Thursday night. My body is in a good place right now i can do 3 miles at my 34min time comfortably, I've added a recovery walk to the end of my runs (need to add stretching after too).

now is the time to get faster via slow and steady improvements :)

Had a very good run last night :) used my app to track my speed and distance my splits were faster than i expected 9:46/9:41/9:26. well that does not add up to 32 minuets you say how does that work. well apparently my 3 mile run is actually 3.3 miles but lets ignore that for the rest of my challenge. I'll just count my standard run around Deer Island as 3 miles for easy comparison. I was supersized that i lost a bit of weight the last two weeks, mostly because i had so much cake over the weekend. . :).  the plan for this week is to avoid running in the rain. I'll run at my work gym on Wednesday, treadmills are good for speed work.

Week 1

Wt:141.6lbs

Speed: 33min/3miles

Week 2

Speed: 34min/min (+1min or +20sec/mile)

Last week went fairly awesome with the exception of a crazy storm over the weekend that kept me indoors (hurricanes do that).

I tried out some speed work on a treadmill, jumping around from 5-7mph for 2min spurts even when up to 8mph for one segment.

this Mondays run went well, my feet were really tight for the first mile or so, no big change in time. by 2.5/3 miles everything felt fine. tight feet have been an issue for me in the past its something I've got to put more effort into correcting/maintaining.

Maintain: SO far my schedule has been go run, then a 5min or so cool down walk with light stretching, foot roll out (on a baseball) at dinner, hip  stretching every night in bed before i fall asleep

Mon:yoga at work, run after work

Wed: run at lunch, fitness trail or treadmill

Saturday: spin class

Improvements:

Roll out feet every night. no skipping nights

I've never been much of a "warm up" person as it gets colder i might have to start warming up. as i think the colder weather that's been rolling in made it hard to warm up during the run. The rowing machine should be a good warm up and some light stretching (feet included) before today's run (treadmill).  and jumping jacks might be a good thing to try when i run at home.  I'm tempted to add another run on Fridays but I'm hesitating, this may have to wait a bit longer.

Food- do something with my eating, although im tempted to do something drastic like go paleo, big drastic steps wont work right now. i batch cook my lunches and my breakfast-s, veggies don't seem to hold up well in the slow cooker recipes I've been using. if i cook on Sunday by Thursday the veggies are kinda gross. i shall work on this.

Looking for input: How do you warm up be for a run/other activity?

To warm up for a run, I just walk quickly for about five minutes. For me, this is a walk to the park where I go running.

i have so little time to work out its hard to justify spending time walking around. But i know warming up good for me. so i shall imagine my warm up is medicine and take it.

This week has been a little crazy, Big Daddy Rose has been dealing with some sleepless nights so everyone at my house has been cranky, along with a long weekend and little guy starting a new daycare Tuesday i wasn't  able to get my timed run in :(. But i added a longer run over the weekend ~5m while grumpy (granddad)  watched the game (go pats) and my little guy. it was soooooo wonderful!!! after 2mile all my aches had gone away and it was so nice to run in the sunshine. was dieing  by the time i was done. I may add a long run on Fridays to keep this going.

Yesterday i ran with a friend at lunch who has a slightly faster pace than i do and i forgot to warm up first . . . . it was sooo awful i had to walk after a mile or so.

last post of this challenge!

I'm kinda sad that this challenge is over :( but excited for the next one. been debating on how to build my next challenge my long term goals are basically the same. run faster, don't gain weight, will add a build some muscle and eat "better" element as well, not sure what kind of eating better but some kind of better. . . .

Challenge summary:

While my runs have not been getting faster they have been getting easier with little to no stopping, (last night absolutely no stopping). my weight has been steady (no real loss) which is great because I think I have been gaining leg muscles :)! I do want to get faster, did not meet my goal of getting faster really at all.

Maintain

Will be keeping my new formula short warm up run (10min) in the opposite direction of my normal route, go home stretch, run, cool down stretch again.

I started doing PT for my abdominal split, will keep doing my SPECIAL ab work out 3 days a week and continue to strengthen my core.

Improve

I would like to get faster, honestly not sure on how to get there. but i will.
