We get started around 545 so it usually isn't too shabby but during winter it can be tough - we were doing TRX in 7-10­°F last winter

Ha! It isn't usually that bad, plus once you get going your body warms up and makes things alright ... and so does layering

Layering! With Hulk-Buster! HA! You crack me up, clever sir!

 

There are these bootcamps around here, where a coach will take a group of people into the mountains and make them do weird stuff for 6 hours straight. And by weird stuff, I mean crawling and doing push ups while in a cold COLD creek. Every so often I ponder doing something like that and then I remember I like to be warm at all times. Even if I understand the concept of warming up during a work out, I really doubt I'll ever partake :)

We didn't do anything fancy or complex just a back to basics work to muscle exhaustion total body workout.

2015-09-23 - Week 2, Day 3
Quest 1 : Run like QuickSilver
Bootcamp was "Abs up and down". 
 
I've posted about this recently its a sprinting + abs workout. You do a series of exercises in sets of 30-20-10 as you go through them and sprint from station to station. You do 1 exercise at each station, say station 1 is sit ups 2 is crunches and 3 is V-ups ... you do 30 sit ups/30 crunches/30 v-ups then 20/20/20 ... so yeah it was a good one!

Personal stuff beyond spoiler ... skip if desired

So couple of other things going on in my life currently 
  • The wife and I are going to be selling the house ... the market has gotten to the point that we can sell without having to bring $10K or more to the table. We are hoping we can sell and shift to an apartment around mid or end of November.  
     
  • My mom is having serious health issues - she's gotten hospitalized three times for low sodium and has dropped to under 100 lbs (she's ~5'5" maybe) so the family had a talking with her .... well me and one brother as the other two brothers were out of town. Overall it went well until we showed her how we'd done with her meds and someone said that she wasn't taking them all. My mom LATCHED onto that single negative comment ... so that was a bit of a set back but hopefully things will get better.

    Honestly I'm not sure how I'd feel about losing my mom before she's 70 cause she gives up on herself. This has to do with my memory of my mom being very strong willed - now I see behind the curtain and that even the apparently strong willed struggle. While this makes us human its hard to struggle all the time and keep that face of strong will.

Lots of NF pals going to AWA this weekend!  That's one con I always wanted to hit up but never got to.  PHOTOS PLS!!! :D

 

Oh man, excited for you guys to sell!  Keep us posted on the process.... our market where we live is pretty hot right now and homes around us are selling pretty well.  I think we're going to seriously tackle this in the new year.  Apartment life goooo~

 

Seeing parents struggle is hard to wrap your head around, man.  I'm sorry your mom is sick, hope things turn around soon!  I always saw my mom as very strong willed but once my dad passed she really became.... different, weaker I hate to say, but it's true.  I guess life takes it's toll on everyone... it's still hard to see, though. :(

Don't expect much from me as far as random shots as I'll be shooting stuff for the costume contest primarily then running home to pack up!

I'm excited to be selling - the wife is ecstatic about it. I'm hoping we can find a solid apartment in a walkable area of town. I know we'll be paying our current mortgage or more for it I think the ability walk places will make up for it - plus hopefully lower utility costs. It is kind of weird to be going back to apartments at 35 but overall I'm okay with it :)

My mom's been a rock since before my dad left back in '91. Recently she's taken a lot of hits - cancer, becoming a grandmother, her mom's death - so I've seen slowly her will be beaten down ... its tough.

We are in our 40's and rent.  We have not owned for 10+ years now.  It is a relief.  Some draw backs of course but we can not afford to buy where we live.  I would not give up the ability to walk, bike, and take a bus.  It is freeing and fun.  Good luck!

 

Sorry about your mom.  I am going through something similar with my mother in law.  Stinks is an understatement.

4 mile tempo run managed a 9:21 pace for the overall run - not what I want but not bad either ... running after doing sprinting at camp is tough!

Had NASTY calf cramp in my right leg when I woke up this morning so no boot camp for me. This allowed the wife and I to go for a walk and do the freezer bag omelettes. They turned out better than expected but about 1-2 minutes short of fully cooked which is what the microwave is for :) Sadly the bags weren't as heavy duty as we needed so they melted at the top which is what scissors are for.

Managed 9:55 pace on my 9 miler on Saturday! Had to run early early cause of AWA, but it was good to get the run in. Weather was rainy and slightly chill which helped more than I thought.

Got a MUCH needed massage on Sunday which loosed up my calf after a nasty cramp on Friday. Need to adjust fooding/minerals or something to avoid more cramp blah!

Friend of mine ask me for a hand with the AWA costume contest as their usual photog backed out. While I haven't posted anything save for a couple of instagram snaps - mostly due the nature of the shoot - I'm going to count the event towards my goal.

Camp was a "long run" day so we did 4.74 miles at a 9:16 pace so I'm going to count that as my tempo run for the week .. though I'm sure I can crank out a better one on Thursday I have a feeling boot camp might beat me up on Wednesday

Woohoo on house sales! My husband and I bought our first about a year ago - I wouldn't have minded renting longer, but we're in NJ, so renting in walkable areas is super expensive, and I kind of like having guaranteed parking. 

 

Sorry to hear your mom's sick - I hope things turn around. I'm going through stuff like this with my grandparents right now. It's so weird and complicated to watch our elders get older and have trouble taking care of themselves when they used to carry me, in more ways than one. Keep your chin up.

I picked up a set of Ziplock steamer bags and now the omelettes are a 2-3 minute cook time!

2015-09-30 - Week 3, Day 3
Quest 1 : Run like QuickSilver
Boot camp was a "game" workout entitled "Camp Gladiator" or some such. Campers were broken into two teams with the goal of getting tennis and medicine balls into a goal.  While the campers were trying to score points the instructors were trying to prevent them from doing so. Campers wore flag football style belts to help instructors knock us out. The balls were between the two goals - each team had their own goal which was across the field from their home base. If you got out you or scored you went back to base and did 5 squat thrusts. 
 
So sprinting and backpedaling goodness was had.

Cooked up a pair of pork loins cut into medallions for later consumption!

2015-10-01 - Week 3, Day 4
Quest 1 : Run like QuickSilver
Wasn't going to run but the wife got called out so I went to support. Wife was going to run 8-10 in the evening but decided to move it to the AM instead.
 
So went out and did a 3 miler with a fellow half marathon training participant. We even managed to do negative splits! I NEVER do negative splits ... it was amazing! Pace was 9:06 which is exactly what I wanted ... yeah good run!

Crazy weekend! We didn't get in a run cause of lightning ... but we did get several offers on the house while we were out drinking beer at the Georgia Craft Beer Festival (Fall Edition). The beer fest was good but nothing rocked my socks as 99% of the beer I'd already had.

 

Sunday/today was planning apartment hunting then lunch with starsapart and stillskies at a tasty pizza spot! After we got them back to the airport we got a ping from our alarm company so we rushed home even faster! Apparently a realtor decided to show our house w/o telling our agent so the alarm went off on them and the cops came ... not cool!

 

So after dealing with that we looked at apartments and MAY have found the one ... yay!
