sterre
The plan for this challenge is to do things that are pretty similar to last challenge, but just a little more of everything. I'll also try tracking things a bit differently this time and I built a bit of flexibility into my first quest because I will be going camping at a music festival one weekend and I don't know what the weather will be like so I don't want to commit to doing yoga in the rain or while hiding in the tent. Main Quest: Develop reasonable and healthy exercise habits to help me avoid injury, feel awesome and have fun! Quest 1: A little more yogaI will do at least 20 minutes of yoga six days a week with three longer sessions (30+ minutes) each week. I'll be allowing myself to break up the sessions into two if necessary, as long as the daily total is 20 minutes and I will allow myself to catch up (not get ahead) if I do two separate 20+ minute yoga sessions in one day. Measurement 1: A = 29+ yoga sessions, B = 25-28 yoga sessions, C = 21-24 yoga sessionsStats: +3 CONMeasurement 2: A = 14+ long sessions, B = 12-13 long sessions, C = 10-11 long sessionsStats: +2 STR Quest 2: A little more movingMy goal here is to complete the couch to 5k, then run three times a week and walk at least half an hour the four days a week I don't run. I'll be tracking runs on their own this time and I will allow myself to catch up on walks by walking on run days.Measurement 1: A = 19+ walks, B = 17-18 walks, C = 14-16 walksStats: +2 STAMeasurement 2: A = 14+ runs, B = 12-13 runs, C = 10-11 runsStats: +2 DEX Quest 3: A little more poiThis time, I will aim for 45 minutes of poi a week during the weeks that I work at both jobs and 60 minutes the weeks that I don't (4 weeks of 45 minutes, 2 weeks of 60 minutes, 300 minutes total).Measurement: A = 240+ minutes of poi, B = 210-239 minutes of poi, C = 180-209 minutes of poiStats: +2 DEX,+2 CHA Life Quest: A little more learningI signed up for a coursera course called The Data Scientist's Toolkit. It only lasts until the start of October, but if I get a good feeling for it, I will sign up for the next one in the series. Anyway, I will complete all the quizzes and the project for this course (with possible extension to the next course).Measurement: Pass = all quizzes and projects done, Fail = not all quizzes and projects doneStats: +2 WIS Weekly totals for all quests Week 1Quest 1: 4 yoga sessions (C ); 3 long yoga sessions (A+)Quest 2: 5 walks (A+); 2 runs (C )Quest 3: 60 minutes of poi (A+)Life Quest: Quiz and project completed (A+) Week 2Quest 1: 6 yoga sessions (A+); 3 long yoga sessions (A+)Quest 2: 4 walks (A+); 3 runs (A+)Quest 3: 64 minutes of poi (A+)Life Quest: Quiz completed (A+) Week 3Quest 1: 4 yoga sessions (C ); 1 long yoga session Quest 2: 6 walks (A+); 1 run Quest 3: 20 minutes of poi Life Quest: Peer evaluations completed. sterre
Following <3 Yay! The course you signed up for "the Data Scientist's Toolkit" sounds interesting! Maybe it is a stupid question, but what exactly is poi…? I tried to find it on the translator, but didn't. The only stupid questions are the ones that remain unasked. Poi is a performance art (and also the objects used in the same performance art), where one spins poi (basically balls on the ends of strings that are sometimes on fire) in circles and various patterns. Here's a video of someone doing some poi, for example. 1 Quote Level 9 Amazon Druid STR : 17 | DEX : 23 | STA : 22 | CON : 23 | WIS : 21 | CHA : 15 Challenges: Current, 8, 7.1, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3.1, 3, 2, 1 Battle Log Link to comment
Silverwitch
Oh, thank you for the links! This is beautiful!Found something on glow poi flowers ... stuff like that I've occasionally seen at faires and I always admired it. Now it finally has a name for me. Plus, it reminded me of something my brother and I used to love as children: my parents did a lot of outdoors stuff with us, including campfires. When it was dark outside, my brother and I grabbed sticks that were glowing on one end, and tried to sort of "draw" figures in the air, making each other guess what we tried to show. You just sort of led me to dig up a cherished memory - thank you! 1 Quote FLUCTUAT NEC MERGITUR FUELED BY PALEO Link to comment

Ah, LED poi looks more impressive than flaming poi. At some point, you'll have to film a performance and show us. The main trouble with filming is that, like the guy who made the other video, I only really have webcams to film anything with. However, unlike that guy, I don't really have any outdoor space of my own apart from my balcony and I don't exactly have a good way to film it. I guess I could get my partner to help and we could probably set up in the park somewhere, but that's some extra work. 1 Quote Level 9 Amazon Druid STR : 17 | DEX : 23 | STA : 22 | CON : 23 | WIS : 21 | CHA : 15 Challenges: Current, 8, 7.1, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3.1, 3, 2, 1 Battle Log Link to comment
sterre
Also, yesterday I was playing with my poi in a park and met a woman who has been playing with poi for eight years. I'd noticed that she was watching me when I was playing and she came over to chat after (though my friends had to help translate 'cause my Japanese sucks) and she showed off some of her skills. I hope when I've been playing with poi that long, I'm that good. Gobnait
Hrm... your phone can't film at all? Maybe you could use a local convention to meet someone who could film you at a park? Since this is an eventual goal, you have a few years to figure out how you're going to do it. Quote I have conditions that affect my social awareness. Well, I only sort of have a phone at all. I have a friend's old iPhone that I use mostly as an alarm clock/timer and web browser when I can find free wifi. I haven't been able to get anything off of that thing since it doesn't really like talking to my computers. sterre
I love poi! I have several friends who do it with flaming poi, and it's really beautiful to watch. How did you get into spinning? Last year I went to a music festival and I saw some people doing it. I'd seen people do the flaming kind before and that was intimidating, but when it's glowing balls of light and being done by people who are dancing to music, it just seemed like much more fun. So I made some poi of my own to practice with and tried it out, then got of glowing ones when as a gift I learned that I liked it.
