SpecialSundae
A girl dumped her bar on Mr. J at one of the meets we were spotting. It was ~100 kg and I almost punched her in the face. He strained his bicep.I think they really need to increase the penalty for that from disqualifying the lift to disqualifying the lifter. 1 Quote Link to comment

Unless the case above where someone is legitimately injured, but I think that would be hard to draw the line.I was particularly upset with this girl because she bailed TWICE! I think that should have been automatic DQ. In most cases if someone's injured then they won't be competing much more that day anyway, I guess? If so then disqualifying the lifter would add insult to their injury but wouldn't harm their actual competition. Although if they had had a strong penultimate lift in their final event it would be a shame to disqualify them and negate their previous good lifts. Maybe they could compromise with the penalty to say that the lifter may not do any more lifts that day, as if they'd genuinely been injured. AugustaAdaByron
If a new lifter does it, it could be that they were never taught not to just ditch the bar when there are people there waiting to help them. I've seen people do it when doing squats. But even then they didn't really ditch the bar, they waited for the spotters to catch it and then left. You can't really ditch the bar on the spotters during deadlift, so they'd be alright there. It's in the rules that a lift will be disqualified if you ditch the bar, so if you do it in competition then you should have read the rules. 1 Quote Link to comment
Gainsdalf the Whey
I think they really need to increase the penalty for that from disqualifying the lift to disqualifying the lifter.During the rules briefings at both my competitions this year, that's exactly what was briefed.
