I feel really bad giving walkthroughs as it's one of the things that made me leave my old gym.  I got told not to help the purple belts with their standing.

The guys here actually like the fact that I can articulate stuff to other white belts and help lessen their burden a bit during busy fundamentals classes.

 

Yeah, our gym is pretty good about people walking us through, so I find that to be something normal now. Which is good, because I still have very little clue what I'm doing. 

 

You can totally do 4kg in six weeks. Just a matter of being conscious of what you're eating. Which is the opposite of me, the person sitting on her couch eating a pint of ice cream and playing video games because I have no cares left to give this week. (And it's only just started...)

4 kg in six weeks? Given how you train and how in tune you seem to be with how food affects you, I don't imagine that's insurmountable by any stretch.

 

Such busy Saturdays for you! Lots of competition. Hope you stay safe and earn all the ippon!

Saturdays and Sundays most weeks.  There was a bit between the Euros and the worlds where I was barely home, its going to be the same here.

You'd think losing actual weight would be easy, but I know from past experience (eg. the cut to 52kg) that I can't just drastically dump calories, I need to keep the protein up and go no lower than about 1,800 per day.  this is pretty hard going when you start seeing everything I do in a day written down.

I can however dump the cake... or swap it for greek yoghurt.

Apparently the professor at my old gym was a total control freak, and not highly thought of in the local BJJ community.  A lot of people have left, and even more so after the Gracie Barra kool aid started getting forced on us.

I've had to remove all good things (chocolate, ice cream, biscuits etc) from my house for the time being and have handy single portion containers of greek yoghurt for when I want sweets.  I can put away a lot of cake and ice cream for such a small person.

Ah, yeah, well. That would definitely do it. :( Our school is a Gracie school, but they like to focus on form and flow, and if you can provide help, it's encouraged to give it. Which is pretty cool to me. :(

 

Well, if you're trying to cut, then yeah, I can definitely see removing all of the good things. :( Still, greek yoghurt isn't too bad - can you at least mix it with some fruit?

So, hey. Know you said you were going to be busy getting things ready between meets and such. How you doing?

Yeah, a quick update.

I was told to drop the conditioning.  I'm hitting rolling and randori 3+ times a week atm and that's more than enough conditioning, my morning and evenings are all about mobility now.

I didn't get to make my contest return as there were no blue belts to match me up against... I was pure raging.  We had out own mini comp during Friday morning death squad which ended with "And that's why you don't get to compete at white belt."

I'm currently hating powerliftring right now because of equipment and two hour every night is spent screaming about squat suits and bench shirts.  I'll get a total but I'm glad this is my last equipped comp.

On the respecting the men folk front?  Doing pretty well with the visiting grapplers, mutual respect and mutual benefit on the training front.  I even have a new training buddy for judo this year, Alberto is gonna help me with my tachi waza and I've probably got some good ne waza tricks for him.  Raised eye brows from the coaches on how quickly we bonded over grappling.

However, I did have the ex start showing up to judo after 4 years (WTF?) there was a bit of a "Not in my house!" moment when I got sent out for pressure training and he tried to square up.  The current intake of judo from the past two years haven't seen me go full competition mode yet, it was interesting for everyone to watch.  Protip, don't try and go back to a club where your ex has become one of the coaches, it's not big or clever.

My weight is slowly coming down but there is still going to be a water cut for the worlds.  The benefit is that my diet is not better and I'll be able to maintain after the worlds this year.

Still looking for comps, got some judo ones lined up and on the women's light weight spot for a couple of team events.  Gonna be a bit of a battle to decide between me and Caroline for a & b teams now that we're both the same weight.

Ooh, yeah, I could see that much randori being sufficient for your conditioning needs. You're probably getting as much of a dosage of that as you could need at this point.

 

Sorry to hear you didn't get to match up with a fellow blue. That's gotta be annoying. That's generally an issue I see with the tournaments anyway, which I guess just makes it a quirk of the sport. Price of doing business, I suppose?

 

If I ever get an ex, and she goes on to become a coach at a dojo or a club, I will heed your advice. :)

I've had a lot of borderline stalking from the ex over the past few months, considering I'm one of those "Mental mma burds" you'd think he'd maybe back off.

Had to pull up a team member at the 4 nations for sportsmanly conduct and lack of team spirit.  There were also issues with regards to listening to coaching advice.  The majority of the team worked well together and listened to the coaches, we had one member who was a known diva and was pretty shocking during the actual competition.  The straw that broke the camel's back was when she started mouthing off about the coaches at breakfast the following day.  I want to have squad sessions next year if possible, purely so I can identify stuff like this early and to also help with team bonding.  

I've found a no gi comp at the end of November which has blue belts at my weight (Yay!) so I'm now looking into costs and training arrangements as it's near London and another one the week after in Newcastle.  Road trips!!!!

Weight is pretty much screwed atm, sitting back at 60kg due to my own stupidity and broken bike.

I'm really sorry that you're still having trouble with the ex. You'd think he'd learn!

I'm not hugely surprised to hear that about the Four Nations. I was watching the stream and wondering if something like that had been going on backstage given what was going on on the platform. Squad sessions would be great, to be honest.

Awesome that you've found a no gi comp at the end of November. :) Can't blame me and my cakes for your weight this time, though! Are you considering a permanent move to 63kg?

No, but I'm going to London the day before to train with FullHD.  Which will end in barbeque and probably ice cream.  But mainly in barbeque and attempting to eat my own body weight in steak.

So. How'd it all turn out?

 

Good and bad, at least I'm back down to reasonable weight today after my weekend blow out.

 

Sport Specific Activity:

 

Goal: Rolling and Randori - aim for only sitting out one round max. ( STA - 2)

Gentle really does mean tired.  I'm over and above my goal of one rest on some days, I don't get a chance to rest most days at BJJ because there's currently a lot of girls and they like the non smashy practises I can provide.  "Go with her, she can f you up gently."

Taking my 2 stam for this.

Conditioning:

Goal: conditioning program 3xpw (STA - 3)

Goal: Morning drills 4xpw (DEX - 5)

 

Going to award partial for the conditioning and partial for the drills.  I've ended up not doing the specified conditioning because it has been swapped out for extra randori/ rolling.  

However, this is also at the cost of solo drilling time.

STA 1.5, Dex 2.5

Healthy Eating:

Goal: Keep avg calories below 1900 (as I'm still needing to lose extra bulk weight ;_; ) (CON - 2)

I'm slowly losing weight but I've had weekend blow outs which have been keeping me around the 59kg mark.  So this was a total fail and means some lovely water manipulation starting this weekend... again.

Respecting the Men Folk:

 

Goal: Keep trolling, teasing and "Fite me bro" to a level that doesn't cause angry texts and getting ignored. (CHA - 3)

I have done exceptionally well at this, so well in fact that the judo coaches are wondering who abducted Tanky and replaced her with her more gentle and kind fetch.

That would only be +3 str though... maybe sneak in one for that deadlift comp pb I finally got.

I would much rather get a bonus dex for bossing the truck at bjj last night.  It's like I'm learning jits or something.

That's 220, unless we only count the highest level for the record then it's 155.

That's some mad hobbit gains yo!
