Hi! First of all, thanks for checking out my thread! I'm 100% new to all of this, so I really hope I'm doing it right! A little about myself - I am 24, a mom of 2 (6 year old and 6 month old!), a wife of an amazing husband, and a full time office-job-glued-to-my-desk worker haha :playful:. All-in-all I have about 60lbs to lose (about 25lbs is baby weight, the rest I had prior), but for me it's not the scale that I'm worried about. I want to look and feel amazing. Right now, it's the opposite! I'm addicted to sugar (no joke) and I'm tired of being a slave to food. If I can break my sugar addiction I believe I'll have no issue eating healthy and losing this weight! I would love some tips/pointers from those who have been there are broken the addiction! I really hope to complete this challenge and feel motivated to reach my goals! Speaking of, here they are:

1) Main Quest (Long-Term Goals): To lose weight, lose fat, and gain some awesome muscle. One day I want to be able to lift major weight like Staci!

2) Smart Quests (Short-Term Goals): 1) Exercise at least 4 days a week! 2) Give up chocolate/sweets (my kryptonite!) for at least 2 weeks of the 6 week challenge! 3) Eat completely healthy (breakfast, snacks, lunch & dinner) at least 3 days a week!

3) Life Quest: To do something nice for someone else at least once a week!

4) Motivation: My family! I want to be a good example for my children, and I want to look amazing for my husband and be happy with myself!

Hi!  It looks like we have similar amounts of weight to lose.  Your goals look great and achievable.  Have you given any thought to the specifics?  Like, how are you going to get that exercise in?  Is time for it already in your schedule, or do you need to change things around first?

I hear you on the chocolate and sweets.  I love that stuff too.  Do you plan to substitute in healthier treats, like fruit, or go cold turkey?

I plan to start with the beginner body weight workout, and work my way up from there. I also have a dvd workout series that I lost a good amount of weight on before I had my 2nd child, so I plan to incorporate that once I build up enough strength to actually do it. I'm going to have to work to incorporate it in my morning schedule, but it can be done. I just have to temporarily forfeit hitting my snooze button 10 times before actually getting up :playful:. I plan to go cold turkey for at least the first week, then try to eat fruit when I really crave. I fasted from chocolate for 2 months about 2 years ago and I ate really healthy (without trying!) and I felt SO good! I fell back in to the addiction at Thanksgiving when my husband's family made some amazing desserts and insisted we take several home with us so they didn't have to throw them away. I had a hard time saying no, but I'm working on being a lot stronger about saying no when I need to!

Fellow chocoholic, checking in!

Woohoo! I'm also a fellow I-want-muscle mom.

2) Smart Quests (Short-Term Goals): 1) Exercise at least 4 days a week! 2) Give up chocolate/sweets (my kryptonite!) for at least 2 weeks of the 6 week challenge!

Have you met my friend, Dark Chocolate?  He's an amazing guy.  You see, he contains more chocolate than just plain old milk chocolate, and only the tiniest amount of sugar or sweetener.  Because he's so dense in chocolatey goodness, I find that just a small square or two can satisfy me all day.  For example, 2 squares of the Green and Black organic dark in my desk right now (it's an 85% dark IIRC) has only 0.8g of refined sugar, and a total of 1.5g net carbs (total carbs minus fiber)...and that's the stuff with real sugar instead of Splenda, stevia, or another no-cal sweetener.  Dark chocolate doesn't taste sweet, either, so it probably won't egg your sweet tooth on.

I've found that finding ways to treat myself without the sugar has been really helpful in getting my diet as well-managed as it is now.

Also, some people are just sugar addicts because of the flavor or habit, but others feel that way because their blood sugar is not under as good of control as they think.  So, if cutting out sugar for about two weeks doesn't eliminate the vast majority of your cravings, or if you find yourself replacing that sugar with empty carbs like bread, cereal, granola, fruit juice, and so on...get your blood sugar checked.  If that check comes up okay, see an endocrinologist who knows how to check for blood sugar problems other than diabetes (the only thing a typical fasting blood sugar test checks for at all).  There are other blood sugar problems (such as your body continuing to produce insulin after it's done getting your blood sugar down enough) that can cause food cravings, or even reduce your metabolism so that it's very hard to lose fat.

3) Eat completely healthy (breakfast, snacks, lunch & dinner) at least 3 days a week!

Great goal!

3) Life Quest: To do something nice for someone else at least once a week!

I love this, too. It shows that you are thinking about making life better in general, not just hyperfocusing on your body.

4) Motivation: My family! I want to be a good example for my children, and I want to look amazing for my husband and be happy with myself!

I'm totally with you there. As a matter of fact, my challenge includes a goal for my son and I to do together!

Best wishes, I'll be around.

Just remember that "No thank you" is a complete sentence.  I have found that if repeated over and over, it gets easier to say.  You don't have to explain what you are or are not eating, or why, you just say "No thank you."

You guys are all awesome, and thanks for the encouragement and advice!! So, Day 1 and I got up and did the warm-up and beginner body-weight exercise this morning. I can't walk, haha! I've also eaten healthy so far today! I'm not going to lie, I'm super craving a candy bar from our not-so-friendly, neighborhood vending machine, but I keep telling myself that I did not just work that hard this morning to ruin it with something I totally don't need! And I am not letting myself walk in the break room so I will not be tempted. I can do this!!

How did you know I LOVE Ryan Gosling??? (I'm pretty sure everyone does, lol) Well, I did really well yesterday, I avoided chocolate/sweets all day except a cup of yogurt I had that had candy in it. I'm not gonna be mad about that though because it's a very small amount and I didn't eat it when I was craving, I just ate it after work for an afternoon snack. It was either that or a bag of chips so I feel like I made the right choice! Today I'm working on my meal plan for the rest of the week, and I'm going to try to remember to log my food in my MyFitnessPal App. I did not work out this morning because I am still really sore from going all out yesterday, but I do plan to stretch really good after work to loosen everything up so I'll be really tomorrow morning!

Not gonna be mad about yogurt should be my new mantra. For poorly understood reasons, I found myself losing it during an insurance phone call today. One of those situations where I was actively realizing what was happening and reminding myself I have a choice about how I react to things, but still couldn't stop freaking out. Next time I'll just be like "Don't be mad about yogurt. "

Great first day! How's that meal plan coming? I actually really enjoy sitting down with a notepad, my cookbooks, and Pinterest to make meal plans, but I am a weirdo like that. :)

I love planning the meals, but actually making them is another story! I actually like cooking, I just have a HARD time finding time because I work full time and have a 6 year old and 6 month old! My meal plan is done for this week as far as dinner goes, and they're all healthy! It's the lunches and breakfasts I need to work on.

Also, my quads are still killing me today, so I must have done something wrong when I did the exercises Monday. I think I'm going to try the dvd workout series I have (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say or not, but it's T25 - I'm not advertising or anything, I just own it lol). I've done it before and had really good success from it, so hopefully I can do it, gain some strength and be able to jump in to the body weight workouts with no issues later. I definitely plan to go for a walk or something today - I will not waste this day!

Breakfast today was really bad because I woke up 15 minutes before I had to leave (my 6 month old is teething and I was up all night with her :nightmare:) so I grabbed some breakfast from a fast food place on the way to work. So I can't count today as a healthy eating day, even though I absolutely will be eating a healthy lunch and dinner!

Sorry I didn't reply to you! It did not notify me that you had commented on here :(

I did good as far as the healthy eating 3 days (I actually did it for 4!), but I gave in to sweets too much. I exercised 2 days last week because I overdid it on my first day and got hurt.

So far this week I have not been doing great. I'm turning that around though, today I've eaten healthy and drank plenty of water to curb the sweet cravings. I plan to exercise after work today as well.

Set backs and motivation fails have attacked me, but I'm still fighting!

Drinking plenty in combination with exercise is always a good idea. And if it's keeping you from eating sweets it's a double win.

My favorite (healthy) drinks:

Water with some lemon

Tea in all variations sometimes with a little milk

Water with a little juice

Hey! Since you popped by my thread, I thought I'd pop by here :)

On the chocolate, I used to be a MAJOR chocaholic. Like, a block in one sitting. I probably still could. But here are my tips:

1. Strength begins at the store. Don't buy any junk food for home. If you need a snack, buy enough for one snack, and eat that. Don't buy a block or bag of lollies, telling yourself you can eke it out. You won't be able to and you'll gorge. Ah, sweet gorging. But, not cool.

2. Instead of focusing on what you can't eat, start a list (and stocking your cupboards with) things you can eat. Healthy snacks like almonds, yoghurt, veggie sticks, whatever you like that doesn't have sugar in it. Even fruit would be good when you're craving sugar? Make sure you have good stuff in your bag when you go to work, in your drawer, in your cupboards, etc. Even protein bars might be a good weaning tool?

3. Make sure you're eating healthy meals. Ha! A baby and healthy meals? Yeah, I know it's hard/impossible. But if you can have a few meals that you can make quickly, or even things you can make in bulk to freeze and reheat (soups are great for this), it might help tide you over when you're exhausted and hungry and the baby is crying and the six year old is grizzly and all that jazz.

Maybe you already knew that, but those things helped me a lot :)

Good luck!

Well, just a quick update, things are going great! I'm eating healthy for every meal (yes, ALL of them!) and exercising 2x's a day (most days) for 30 minutes each. I'm doing high-intensity workouts (T25) and attempting to run lol. I don't hate running, I just suck at it, so I'm working on it! I'm using the Couch to 5k app to build my way up. Hopefully in 9 weeks (I think it's 9 anyway) I'll be able to run a 5k, which would be AMAZING (it's a new goal!)! I have not had any chocolate/sweets in almost 2 weeks now, and I have had a few cravings, but I've talked myself out of them. I changed my mindset to think "this is what is making you work so hard to get healthy. This is the cause of all this pain!" and it really helps me a lot. I also am living by the quote, "Don't sacrifice what you really want for something you want right now." I am also drinking 100+ oz of water every day! I stepped on the scale yesterday out of curiosity (I'm trying not to weight myself for at least 2 weeks so I can see how much progress I made) and I have lost almost 7lbs in 2 1/2 weeks. I am excited, motivated, and I feel so good!
