My Quest for 1100...

Drazen

Recommended Posts

Soooo this is a pretty simple goal:  at the end of the 6 week challenge I would like my PL total to be >1100 lbs (~500kg).  This will be an increase of 64 lbs (~29 kg) since I last went for max lifts in July.  Since then with work and personal travel and general life, my lifting has not been nearly as consistent as I would like.

Challenge Goal #1: milestone:  1100 lb total with a 1125 lb stretch goal by the end of the challenge or by the next virtual NF meet if that is scheduled soon.

Challenge Goal #2: 2 days of conditioning per week

Life challenge:  be more social and participate in fellow Warriors (and I suppose non-warriors as well) challenges.  I am not particularly outgoing, even online, so we shall see how this goes...not even really sure how to grade this.

Long term goal:  drop weight down to 225 lbs (currently at 255 259.8).  This would put me in a lower weight class....and would be healthier in general...not sure which is more important =)

details to follow once they are fully considered, over-analyzed and stressed over...

Now, back to the iron...

One goal. Nice and short.

But, hardly simple.

Any idea how far along you are since july?

Since July, bench working weights are +10, squat and DL are +20 but my squat depth is iffy with the heavier weight.  I seem to have a lot of difficulty consistently getting my ass down below parallel.

But I have a comp next weekend so I will know for sure then.

Challenge Day W1D1

- Cleaned up lifting goals in the OP

- Added a goal of 2x conditioning days per week after trying and failing to keep up with my kids this weekend...gasping like a fish out of water after like 3 minutes is not a comforting feeling.  I havent really figured out exactly how this will be programmed - probably some combo of C2 rowing, treadmill intervals and hikes with my 40lb vest but I am open to suggestions!

Now, my offering to the iron:

Squats, worked up to 1 heavy single:

1x5x135

1x5x195

1x5x260

1x3x295

1x5x325

1x3x335

1x2x345

1x1x355

Nice, we're pretty similar in BW and total. Good luck!

Conditioning day:  I did a 2 mile walk with a 40lb vest on.  Time was just under 30 minutes.  It is cooler out today, only like 95, but its still too fucking hot out to do this at lunchtime.

95?  did winter come early to your area?

Just did a fast walk today at lunch, then stretched and foam rolled my legs for a good 30 minutes.  To block out the tear-inducing pain of the foam rollers on my quads and hammies, I tried to pick out my openers for Saturday.

I am thinking something like:

Squat 1: 135kg/297lbs

Squat 2: 160kg/352lbs

Squat 3: 165kg/364lbs

Bench 1: 130kg/287lbs

Bench 2: 145kg/320lbs

Bench 3: 150kg/331lbs

DL 1: 175kg/385lbs

DL 2: 195kg/430lbs

DL 3: 200kg/441lbs

obvilously lifts 2 and 3 depend on success of the lift prior.

SOOOOOOOO it seems I may have been sandbagging a little...or at least being a little conservative...or lacking confidence....not sure which yet.

PL meet #2 was this past Saturday in Flagstaff, AZ.  We had originally planned on driving up Friday night but there happened to be a Blue Grass music festival in Flag that weekend and all the hotels were booked up.  So we were up at 4am and got on the road a little before 6.  It was about a 2.5 hr drive from our house to the event.  My sister-in-law and her family drove down from northern AZ to meet us so it was a full family affair.

The meet got off to a disconcerning start as I weighed in at 120.75kg, much to my surprise and annoyance.  On my scale at home I was 6 lbs under the limit 3 days ago.  But whatever, not much I could do at that point.

The lifting, however, went exceedingly well!  I mostly stuck to my original plan and went 9/9

Squat 1: 135kg/297lbs

Squat 2: 160kg/352lbs

Squat 3: 165kg/364lbs <-- 9 lb PR!

I was disappointed in my choice for the 3rd lift after it went up as easy as it did.  I probably could have added 10-15kg to it.

Bench 1: 130kg/287lbs

Bench 2: 145kg/320lbs

Bench 3: 150kg/331lbs <-- 11 lb PR!

Felt good, 3rd lift was grindy but a smooth grindy.

DL 1: 175kg/385lbs

DL 2: 195kg/430lbs <-- 5 lb PR!

DL 3: 200kg/441lbs  210kg/462lbs <--37 lb PR!

I was originally going to go for 200kg on my 3rd lift but after my 2nd went up as cleanly as it did, I decided to sack up and bump it up to 210.  Definitely the right decision as it was another smooth grindy lift.  I probably could have added 5-10kg more.

Overall I completely exceeded expectations with a 525kg/~1155lb day.  However since I completely blew my challenge goal right out of the water, time to re-assess where I am.

I have no problem getting below parallel on heavy weights, it's the getting back up that's rough! :P

Well. That might be the first time I've seen someone accomplish their challenge within the first week. But way to go!!!

Soooooo I am thinking that my next milestone in the quest for gainz and awesomeness is 1200 lbs.  That will be my new target for my next test day.  I am already ahead of where I thought I was so this is just gravy now.

...to be done within the remaining 5 weeks of this challenge, or to be done in general/over a longer period? Just checking...

probably also the 1st time someone blew right past their goals without realizing it until doing the calculations after the meet.

I wasnt really planning on doing a competition style 1RM day until November but the challenge is still young
