This challenge instead of focusing on the process (like a smart person) instead i'm going with a list of things I want to achieve these 6 weeks. I'll be posting about what i'm doing to get there. Expect rambling, workout logs and lots of videos. 

 

Main-quest; be all sorts of awesome at kettlebellsport (as an athlete, coach and nerd)

Main-sub-quest (lol); be awesome in general (strong, skilled and mobile!)

Current chapter; qualifying for worlds on september 27th

- weigh in on competition day @67.9kg

- do 60 snatch reps with the 24kg kettlebell

- be well rested (at least 8 hours of sleep the first 2 weeks of the challenge)

 

(that's me and my current PR on 24kg snatch)

 

Big list of other physical-sub-goals..

- get 5 pull-ups 

- get 1 dip

- do a bodyweight clean, bonus points if I get the jerk too!

- PR my back squat 

- PR my deadlift

- do a 10 minute set with 24kg longcycle

- make (freestanding) handstand gains 

- go running at least 6 times

- go cycling with family at least once

 

Lifegoal; 

- write the index page for a book about kettlebellsport

- prepare and execute the next two days of my kb course well

It's still so early! We don't actually start 'till monday, but it feels like a challenge start doesn't it? :) All fired up o/

Can anyone share their experience with competition weigh ins? (4h) I know the theory, but it'd be helpful to talk to someone who has done it.

My coach has me doing them, as well as kb jerks, to help with my balance while I rehab my back. We've moved to DBS though, as I never got the hang of not pounding my wrist on the finish.

Ah, you're probably snatching as you would a barbell then? Doesn't make it any easier not to bang the wrist. Actual KB snatching is quite different (and absolutely impossible to do with dumbbells).

I wanted to look up what you're doing but you haven't started a new thread yet, gogo! ;)

Your physical sub-goals are awesome, I hope you can check of many of those this challenge :). Will you focus the first 2 weeks on KB and then also on the other stuff, or other stuff in the first two weeks as well?

Definitely the focus will be KB the first week and mostly resting the second week. But yea i'll probably still do my pullup+squats sets the first week and stand on my hands in the second.

Are you looking to cut weight or just for the refeed after? I'm used to a 2h weigh in (in theory) but have sometimes ended up with 4h after weigh in to fuel up due to things running late.

Yes, still cutting atm. In the morning I weigh around 72, planning to lose 2 of those in the next 10 days.. so that'll leave me with 2kg of water weight to get rid of at least. Haven't had to bother with it before (had to drop a weight class), so it's all new for me.

Edit for a bit more info;

Have to go from 72 > 68. I'm running a 1000kcal deficit so should lose 1,5 (usually this is correct for me). Atm I eat plenty of salt and drink plenty of water, there is room there. Also I weigh in the mornings because then I'm naked, but it's not my lightest- that's usually a couple hours and a bowel movement later (I eat close before going to bed). Just stopping eating 12+ hours before should get rid of +-1kg.

From today's training; 

 

The fourth was barely there and the 5th... well :D 

 

Rest of the log; 

KB snatch ladder (in kg)

5/5 reps with;

14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 

Just getting back in the swing of things (har har) after taking a few days off with illness.

 

Deadlifts

60 x 2 x 4

80 x 1 x 8

 

Other

Worked on pullups obviously... and some locomotion as a sneaky way to do mobility work.
