Tundralily: Grace, Gratitude and Grit

Last time on the Rebellion

My last two challenges have been tough to finish. I’ve been neglecting the  last 3  weeks after starting strong, and petering out as life gets in the way. This time, I  hope to better focus on goals on what I need for myself over the next couple months as WINTER IS COMING!

Main Quest

Health, wholeness and healing in body, mind, and spirit.

Motivation

I will face each day with an open heart, be adventurous in all the ways that piqued my curiosity, have specific long-term goals, and practice kindness and compassion towards myself. I will meet myself where I am with love, compassion, and without judgement. I will celebrate the smallest of successes and be gentle with myself if I fail, focusing instead on learning what works for me. I am a unstoppable, untamed and wild force of nature when I go through life with all of my mind, body and soul.

Challenge Aim:

I spent the last challenge recovering from a couple rough patches this summer, and have been feeling so much better! I’m ready to start pushing myself in small incremental ways (weight lifting, I’m missing you!) without burning out halfway through my challenge.

This challenge, I’m focusing on cultivating grace, gratitude, and grit in my daily life to meet my physical, mental, spiritual and career goals.

Quest 1: Grit

strength.jpg

I haven’t consistently done any strength training in over 2 months. This challenge, I’m a woman with a plan, and employing some grit to get it done. My shoulders have been giving me major issues with chronic pain, which I’m getting assessed by a physio in two weeks. I’ve been afraid to train because of the pain, and then realized that avoiding strength training is probably not helping anyone. So, until I see my physio, my goal is to complete 1 round of the Diesel Crew 7 day shoulder rehab protocol, followed by starting the Lean and Lovely Kettlebell program 3 times per week.

So effectively, my workout schedule will look like:

Week 1 (from Diesel Crew website)

Monday:  Circuit 1
Tuesday:  Circuit 2
Wednesday :  Circuit 3
Thursday:  REST
Friday:  Circuit 4
Saturday:  Circuit 5
Day 7:  REST

Week 2

Lean and Lovely Primer Phase: A & B (3 weekly sessions)

Week 3

Lean and Lovely Primer Phase: A & B (3 weekly sessions)

Week 4

Lean and Lovely: Week 1

Week 5

Lean and Lovely: Week 2

Week 6

Lean and Lovely: Week 3

Quest 2:  Growth

personal-growth-quote.png

My mornings need to be kicked up a notch. I’m struggling to get out of bed onto time, and feel exhausted after I get out of bed. To tackle my morning blues, I’m modifying my last challenge goal of 2 mins daily yoga into 2 mins of daily movement right after I wake up. It can be whatever my body needs that day, but I have to move!

Quest 3: Gratitude

whatmatters8.jpg

Sometimes, as I struggle through life I can get stuck in a scarcity based mindset, not realizing how much I am blessed with in my job, relationships, family, and community.  To cultivate gratitude for how awesome my life is, I want to do an act of service for someone I care about every week.

Quest 4: Grace

450e43859848fbb708f0889b66fb5572.jpg

My hubby and I are in a time of preparation and waiting for the next major transition in our lives: possibly moving home in the new year.  My family and best friends live 3000km from where we are, and my heart is telling me that it is time to go home.

In order to go home, I need to find a job! My goal is to spend 2 hours a week actively working on moving home. This can include:

-          Networking emails and events

-          Working on my resume

-          Researching companies to apply for

-          Applying for posted jobs

-          Working on courses for my next job.

To make sure I’m doing a variety of things, no one activity will count as 2 full hours.

Wow, I'm already so impressed by the priorities you've set for yourself! Grit is awesome, but I love, love, love your gratitude quest. I might steal that one next time around. I'm on the other side of the cross-country move to be closer to family, and I know what huge transition that is. It took me a while, but the perfect thing came along and it was like it was all meant to be. I'm sure that with such a clear intention and solid plan, it will fall into place for you too, if not in the next six weeks, then exactly when it needs to happen.

I'm looking forward to following (and stealing more of your beautiful ideas for growth and grace!).

Awesome!  I love that you are going to be nice to yourself!!  That was the hardest thing I ever had to learn to do...I'm always my harshest critic!!  LOL!

You've got a lot of great goals and activities to work towards them in a positive way...just be sure to take time to get plenty of rest!

Here's to a great Challenge!!

I think that is it great that your exercise plan is so locked-in.  And your description of motivation is inspirational.

You guys are awesome. Thank you all for stopping by this week to check in! Unfortunately, this week was awful for me. Something at work came up and exploded in my face, and I've been dealing with the fall out all week and feeling terrible about what happened. Will post a weekly update with more details tomorrow, but in the mean time here is some motivation!

Week 1 Update!

I'm late in posting my week one update, but cest la vie. I'm spending less time on the fun internet things (like Nerd fitness!) and more time on resume and adulting things. Turns out, I'm pretty burnt out after spending time on electronic screens all day.

So last wee was really hard. Work was really stressful (budget cuts, production downtime, etc etc) and I'm anxious. My year contract is up in January and I've gotten unofficial feedback that they are not sure if they will keep me going because of budget cuts. So stressful!

I'm taking this as a sign that maybe the universe is telling me to get moving and that's its time to go home. I've been collecting underpants and "looking for a job" and not doing very many actionable things (ahem, applying for jobs...) because of bad timing and fear, but now is the time! More details on the Grace summary below.

Weekly Summary:

Quest 1: Grit

Didn't do the Diesel shoulder rehab last week because of low energy levels, but I did 3 session of pull up training and am happy with that. Going to call that a win.

Quest 2: Growth

Moved last week in the morning about 50% of the time - but enjoyed it when I did. I've got a two day streak going this week and am really loving the yoga in the morning without it being too overwhelming.

Quest 3: Gratitude

I helped a coworker out who was in a bind last week even though things were crazy, and am feeling good about that. Win.

Quest 4: Grace

Guys, I rocked this one! I applied for 3 posted jobs, got my resume in order (for the time being), and contacted 3 potential people for the networking things. Awesome! I'm not totally happy with my resume yet but am 60% of the way there, and don't want perfection to keep stopping me from applying for cool jobs at home.

Overall, a stressful but successful week. Here's to a better week!

You have been a good example of grace under pressure.

Good job making progress on each of your quests, even as you recognize how you can do better for each.

I agree with you--it's sometimes so hard to fire up the computer and spend screen time here when you feel like you've been doing that all day at work. There are a lot of evenings when I just don't have any computer time left in me, but I think as long as you can check in a couple of times a week, you can get a lot of motivation from the forums. Or, at least that's the case for me. How's week 2 going so far?
