I’ve become a huge fan of Habitica, as it has really kept my habits and daily tasks on track.  The quests and collecting of things is also motivating, as is not killing my party when I don’t do things. Thus, my monster-themed quest! Be forewarned, this is somewhat lengthy.

Weapons Training

In order to slay monsters, I must be fit and dextrous with my weapons. Training is comprised of:

 

  • 50 squats per day [sugar craving squats count to this]

  • 10 single leg balances per leg per day

  • 2 weightlifting classes / wk [M, Sa]

  • 2 strength workouts / wk [W + ? ]

  • 1 yoga class / week [su]

  • bonus points if I go to stretch class on Th

Defeat the Sugar Demon

I love carbs, and sugar, and donuts, and basically any dessert that doesn’t involve bananas.  I also get mood swings and generally feel like crap when I eat these things.  I did the 21DSD last month and I did not crave sugar while I was on it.  In order to slay this Sugar Demon, I must:

 

  • Do two 21DSDs with the following exceptions:

    • Berries & oatmeal ok

    • 2 drinks allowed on dates

    • Drinks at Camp NF

    • Mom’s birthday meal

  • Attend 2 meetings / week

  • Avoid stress / emotional eating

    • Journal daily

    • Meditate daily [even 2 min counts!]

    • 20 squats whenever I want anything off plan

Vanquish the Dating Anxiety Dragon

Long story short, I have serious mental blocks when it comes to available men I do not know well and closing the deal.  I shall vanquish this dastardly dragon by completing the following tasks:

 

  • Message 5 men / day, except for week 1 which will be:

    • sign up for PoF

    • sign up for match

    • update OKCupid profile

  • 5 min tinder / day

  • 1 date / week

  • 1 hookup / mo

I am doing very well with Habatica too!!   Though I still call it HabitRPG.   So yay!   Glad that's helping you.    You also seem to have a plate as full as mine, and organized somewhat similarly.    Woo for organized Nerd friends.

Day 1.1

 

The day surprisingly wasn't horrible, considering I had been stuffing my face with sugar and process carbs the week or so before this challenge.  Sugar cravings came, I did squats.  I also did some mental habit changing talk - "Hey we could eat that, or we could fit into the super awesome green trench coat you got 2 weeks ago", which did help.  Also, telling myself that whatever food I wanted really wasn't going to fix the problem causing me to want to eat.

 

I had my workout with Sheena, which was a bunch of strength exercises [good mornings, DB presses, wall sits, arch holds, hollow holds, etc] I got my 10 leg balances in, but in a surprising move, She did not have me doing any squats!  So, made those up at home.  She's thrilled about my squat and leg balance challenge, though.

 

Also - FINALLY, I was able to do snatches and cleans with the big girl bar again!  SO EXCITING!  I've been sidelined with a nagging back injury which only hurt when i was compressing my spine (like oh, in squats, and snatches, and cleans..).  I've been working out with the 15lb training bar (~7kg) with some additional weights for a while, and my back finally felt good enough to go up to the 15kg one!  And, even better - it feels fine today!  YAAAAY!

I am in a party with three of my MUSH friends.   We had another in our party, but they NEVER did their dailies, and we fought this dragon?  And it was hitting us for like 28 pts every day!  We kept dying.  So we all quit and reformed without her.  <-- Mean.    (Necessary.)

Chore wars was pure PVP and designed for households.  It was very open, but it worked while I cared.

 

Oh man, imagining that every treat tastes like cathair instead of bliss followed by pain really spoils the desire for treats.

Week 1.2:

 

Yesterday was a bit of a whirlwind,with a mix of tired and productive.  I put together my decluttering spreadsheet, although after getting through the task yesterday, I may have bitten off more than I can choose, and the schedule may slip a bit.

 

I forgot to mention I sent off my passport application / photos, so that drop bear is now slightly wounded! Ha!

 

I was going to go to yoga last night, but I had stuff I wanted to get done, so I scheduled for Friday instead.  Of course, I forgot I have a haircut appointment right after work Friday, sigh.  So, Sunday night it shall be, unless I sneak into one Thu or Sat.

 

Food was good, still having sugar cravings, but those are all mental, as I am definitely getting enough calories.  But, I know that will settle down soon.

I know I've been lax on the updates, but I have been challenging on! Things have been very busy at work, and this challenge is keeping me busy in the evenings, so that means not a lot of time to actually update!

 

I've got 4 days to update, so I'll spare you and break these into two posts.

 

Week 1.3: (Wed)

I have just been so exhausted.  It's likely this is carb-detox and/or season change related, but I just want to sleep 80 hours a week.  I gave in and had some PB straight from the jar.  It's not on the 21DSD plan, but it's the lesser of the many evils.  I'll live.

 

I also really didn't want to drag myself downtown and go to my friend's birthday wine get together, because effort.  I dragged myself down then, and as usual, had a great time catching up with friends.  It's like the thermite reaction: it takes a lot of energy to get things started, but once that happens, BOOM - lots more energy is released than what you put in.

 
I came home around 9pm and made oatmeal for tomorrow and soft / hard-boiled eggs. I really must remember that a perfect soft-boiled egg is an amazing thing. it's a great comfort food and is much better than peanut butter!

Week 1.4:

 
My crazy work project is kicking back up into high gear, which is really making my 21DSD difficult, bcause it just makes me want to drink.  I'm talking 'I want to go on a date just so I can drink' levels here. Too much fun.
 
I'm modifying the weightlifting classes portion of the challenge to 1 per week, keeping strength workouts at 2. I'll get a bonus for 1 extra weightlifting session, but schedule is kind of crunched as it is.  Yes, I bit off more adulting than I could handle.
 
Also, I severely underestimated how much time it would take me to declutter things. I'm on day three of decluttering my makeup vanity.  It's ridiculous; I have WAY too much makeup.  I should bring the easily sanitized items to Camp and offer them out to anyone who wants them, so they go to good homes.
