Ryuu Emerges from the Shadows

Challenge #5: Sept 14 - Oct 25th 

 

Got killed during my last boss fight over the summer. And I apologize for going radio silent on all of you guys, it was just almost impossible to get any time to workout let alone any time to come online and post. The Supper busy and stressful fellowship made it very hard to keep up my health and fitness routines. It was awesome, just not so awesome for my health and fitness goals. I didn't completely fall off the wagon, but I did fall and get dragged along side the wagon for quite aways. But I'm back and going to try to get back into my good habits that I was establishing at the end May. I'm still pretty busy with the start of the new school year so nothing fancy for right now, but here are my goals for this challenge:

 

Goal One: Loose 2% of my body fat and 6lbs (+2 Cha, +1 Con)

Starting Body Fat: 19.1% Goal: 17%

Starting Weight: 163.4 lbs Goal: 157lbs 

I was unable to cook for myself or keep a regular workout schedule over past three months and as a result gained about 10lbs and 4% body fat back, which really sucks but I've just got to get back to my good habits and I'm sure it will come back off quickly. 

 

Goal Two: 5-10 Second Free Standing Handstand (+2 Dex, +2 Stam, +1 Str)

Train at least 3 times per week ___/18 & Practice at least 5 minutes, 5 Days a week. ___/30

Needless to say my handstand goal from my last challenge didn't get accomplished but it is still something that I am working on so maybe by the end of this 6 weeks I'll have a solid 5-10 second one down. 

 

Goal Three: Improve my Speed and Endurance (+3 Stam, +1 Dex)

5-10K Train 3 Time a week. ___/18

At my school we just started a cross country team and I'll be helping coach it so I figure now is as good a time as any to start working on my longer distance endurance so I'm going to try my hand at 5K to 10K training. 

 

Goal Four: Make some videos (+2 Wis, +1 Cha)

Make 3 Videos over the course of the 6 weeks. ___/3

I know I want to make some how to/ demo videos for my students showing them art techniques and things like that, but I'm petrified of videoing myself for some reason, so hopefully this goal will help me break past that fear and start making some tutorial videos for my students.

Glad to hear that the wagon didn't leave you behind in a ditch somewhere.

I have absolute faith that you'll get back into the swing of things quickly, and inevitably start giving me a run for my money in the minichallenges..... :P

Yeah! More like moving zombie, hahaha but yeah not *TOO* far down the road but enough that I have quite a bit of work cut out for me to get back to where I was :/ but thats what life is all about and I'm excited to be making progress forward again! :)

Week 1: Days 1 & 2

 

Day One:

Getting back into the swing of things is challenging, worked out today. Was an alright workout, I didn't set any personal records but it is comforting to know that I didn't loose too much strength during my months off.

 

Workout

Weighted Chin Ups

3 sets 5/5/3/1 Reps @ 0/25/35/45lbs

Handstand Push Ups

3 sets 9/8/8 Reps @ Head touch

 

Seated Cable Row

Day Two

Had our 1st cross country meet today! It was great to see the kids at their first race, in middle school its only 2 miles instead of a whole 5k but most of them were able to jog for the majority of the race, which was really great for them. They all have a great deal of improvement to work on but it is a great bench mark for them and it'll be great to see how much they have improved over the next month and a half. 

 

In terms of healthy eating today was a little bit of a disaster >_< taco bell doesn't make for a very healthy dinner but eh 80-20 rule right? lol

Good for you not losing a lot of strength despite the time taken off. I take two days off at the wrong time and--did someone get the license plate of the truck that ran me over?

Well posting daly updates is likely not going to happen for this challenge, but I am determined to at least post weekly updates on Sundays. So without further ado:

Week 1 Overview

 

Goal One: Loose 2% of my body fat and 6lbs (+2 Cha, +1 Con)

Starting Weight: 163.4 lbs Current: 161.4lbs Goal:157lbs 

Off to a great start, maintaining a pretty good deficit for most of the week, but I did splurge a few times, going for the 80/20% rule lol. I've actually set My Fitness Pal for -2lbs per week so I may end up loosing quite a bit more than my estimated 6. 

 

Goal Two: 5-10s Free Standing Handstand (+2 Dex, +2 Stam, +1 Str) Train at least 3 times per week 2/18 & Practice at least 5 minutes, 5 Days a week. 5/30

I'm doing most of my handstand practice on my paralettes that I made because its easier on my wrists, and I think I'm making pretty good progress- especially considering I didn't really practice at all for the 2nd half of the summer.

Had meeting and stuff I had to do almost every day after school this week but I did manage to get my runs in, I practiced once with the team and then two on my own on the back trail near my friends house. Ran about 3 miles at practice and then trail and back was about 4.5 so I did a total of about 12 miles this week.

Overall, its been a decent week. There has just been SO much going on after school its hard to find time to do anything else except workout, cook, plan lessons, and go to sleep. Hopefully I'll be able to post more updates this week but if not I promise to post next weeks update on Sunday!

Thanks, that is very true. Even when I put in all the calorie info from MFP I was actually shocked by how low it was (I mean I was still way over my calories for the day, but not by nearly as much as I thought it was going to be) lol

Hahaha fair enough, but they have gotten a lot better (at least I think so) in the past few years. I've never heard of Mucho Burrito, I don't think they have any in NC

Week 2 Mid Week Update

 

Going pretty good so far this week. Even though I've had to eat out twice so far I've made very healthy choices and have worked out or run all three days so I'm feeling pretty good about my weigh in tomorrow. Workout have been pretty solid, same basic stuff that I have been doing, working on getting all of my strength and endurance back. Right now I'm actually the most excited about my progress on my handstands, Its a weird feeling but also pretty cool to have other people at the gym tell you that can see how much you have improved. I'm no where near where I ultimately want to be but its kind of awesome to know that I'm not the only one seeing progress (even if it is pretty slow).

Right now I'm actually the most excited about my progress on my handstands, Its a weird feeling but also pretty cool to have other people at the gym tell you that can see how much you have improved. I'm no where near where I ultimately want to be but its kind of awesome to know that I'm not the only one seeing progress (even if it is pretty slow). 

 

 

This is one of the things that has kept me going with roller-skating. People saying "Yo, you have improved, even if you still feel like Bamby on Ice!"

Made good progress this week, but I was absolutely horrible on my food choices on Friday and Saturday (like 2000+ cals over >_<) so I have a feeling next weeks weight in willn't be very good, but I hit every workout this week and ran some additional times so as look as I keep putting in that kind of work and just making better food choices I'm sure everything will even out.

 

Goal Two: 5-10s Free Standing Handstand (+2 Dex, +2 Stam, +1 Str) Train at least 3 times per week 5/18 & Practice at least 5 minutes, 5 Days a week.10/30

Going pretty well so far I can feel how the pressure on my finger tips changes my stance and how push and bracing my core improves my form, now its just a matter of time upside down.

Ran with my friend and the Cross country team as much as I could, we even did a backyard mud run when it was raining on Saturday in this really, really muddy field behind my friends apartment. It was a ton of fun and good practice for running in the mud, and really awful conditions.

This week may have been the worst week in the history of weeks. So a little context, to start things off my classes at school have a particularly difficult mix of students this year, which has cause me to contemplate changing jobs and has given me "why the hell did I sign up for this?" thoughts almost daily. Then last Sunday my girl friend send me a message saying basically "can we talk" and it went about as well as any conversation that starts off like that goes. So right now we're "on a break" and I spent 90% most of my week curled up in my bed hating life, binge watching Netfilx, and eating shit for food ... :(

 

Week 3 Overview

As you can guess being super sedentary, not working out, and eating fast food almost every day I shockingly didn't really loose any weight or body fat, I have a feeling next weeks weigh in is going to be...worse to say the least.

Totally counts! And it tells me that you're not ready to give up yet!  Seriously, I'm impressed that you would still come here to report on the crappy week.  It shows that you're ready to make this week better!  Hoping you get a fresh start and focus on some of the positive things you can control.

Yeah it was one of those weeks that feels like everything is going wrong and you just want to craw under the covers and never come out >_< but I pulled myself back together and this week is off to a pretty good start.  :) Thank you very much for your words of encouragement it means a lot.

 

Sometimes you just need to take some time to cope--if it takes a week, it takes a week. Life can really put the screws to you, but the important thing is to not give up the fight and even if you can't see a way to immediately fix what's troubling you, try to see if you can't find a path that will get you there one day soon--any plan beats no plan, hands down. And if it involves good diet and exercise, that would be nice, too lol.

Week 4 Day 6


Well this challenge has just gone from bad to worse. My girl friend broke up with me. She said that it was distance and to focus on her studies, which I understand but It just hurts, you know. A lot. I know I fall too hard too fast but I thought, I don't know, that maybe we would last longer. And it just sucks all the worse because its my birthday tomorrow :( 


 


Well I guess I'll have lot more free time now, time to focus on myself and what not. Anyone got any tips on getting over a break up?
