Bast
Bast takes on a new adventure... Well, here we are again at the start of another 6WC...I'm amazed at how much I learn with each one!! This round, most of my goals and quests are going to stay pretty much the same, with a few minor adjustments here and there...but that's no real surprise, is it? I mean, I've been doing my quests and reaching my goals, but I want to keep it up, right? It's all about those baby steps... So once again, I'm playing to my strengths...which I noticed last round that my greatest strength was my printed spreadsheet. It kept me on track when our internet was down for two weeks, and I really missed it (and often caught myself looking for it to check off my activities made habits!) during the break! I'm also going to work more on my weaknesses, the greatest of which, I noticed, was my NF posting...I didn't do my updates in as timely a manner as I would have liked (not counting when the internet was down). There are also more than a couple of additional challenges to this challenge...first of all, my Hubby will be on leave for the first two weeks of this challenge, so staying on track with him around will definitely keep things interesting! Secondly, he'll also be rejoining the Rebellion as a Recruit, so I'll be cheering him on! I'm hoping that him pursuing his own 6WC Goals and Quests will help keep us on track during those first two weeks of leave... In addition to that, my diet and activities will coincide with my Hubby's Challenge, as he will be gearing up for his PRT, so following the same diet and exercise schedule will the be the best way to help support his efforts. I'm also going to be lending an extra helping hand to my Guildmates, so I'm hoping that I can do a good job! I'm not sure of any specific theme again this round...but that's OK, flexibility is one of my strong suits...literally and figuratively!! Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... Epic Quests are just that...Epic...it's for the long haul, so there's no real grading system for this, mainly just a do or don't...work towards it or not. Fibromyalgia is evil...ask anyone who either has it or knows someone who does... It's a battle harder than most realize... There is no cure... Treatment is a guessing game while playing musical meds... Many people either don't realize it exists or ignores that it does... To me, Fibromyalgia is my Mortal Enemy...it is the Ultimate Boss Battle...one that I will most likely fight for the rest of my life... But that doesn't matter, I refuse to roll over and let it take over my life, I will continue to fight...for myself, for my family, and for all others whom it affects! My Epic Goal is total remission!! Sure, it may seem lofty, but I've already come so far!! About 10 years ago or so, I could barely walk, even when using a cane, I was drugged out of my gourd most of the time and the docs told me to get ready to spend the rest of my like in a wheelchair...that's when I said "screw that shit!!!"!!! I fought tooth and nail to take back my life... I'm doing much better now...I'm off the meds (except on rare occasions), off the cane (even more rarely needed) and have lost a decent chunk of the weight I had gained. Yeah, I stumble from time to time, and I still have my bad days, but they are getting fewer, farther between and not as debilitating! So I'm keeping up the baby steps...primarily proper rest and staying active...to continue to fight the good fight! I remember that even when I have a bad day or two, it's not the end of the world, and as long as I am nice to me, it's OK...I can always do more tomorrow!! And I will cheer on and assist anyone else struggling with this Monster and hopefully inspire them to not give up!! Main Quest:Loose the belly flop... I'm not exactly a bad size or weight, but I do have a bit of excess around the middle... It's something I've been working on for a while. During the last 6WC, I had a major victory in this category that helped me to improve my body image...I had lost enough inches while gaining flexibility that I could fasten my brazier behind my back for the first time in I don't know how long!! That gave me a boost in my motivation to keep it up!! Now, I'm still not where I want to be...I've got a section of my lower belly (8" by 16" area about 2" deep) that still needs to go away... I can't calculate it like a cube, but that's my target...to loose that extra flop! I've never had a perfectly flat belly, even when I was at my peak youth and fitness...my anatomy has always had a small belly "pooch"... So I don't expect to ever have that "perfect" or "6-pack" abs. But I would like to get it down to when I was at my healthiest! The last couple of 6WCs, I've set the goal at 12" lost, mainly for easy point calculations. However, I keep coming up short (8, 7.5 and 9 inches lost, respectively). So I'll embrace fractions and make my goal 10 inches lost! Grading:1 point = 1 inch lost 1.5+ points possible per week --> 10+ possible total Reward: +1 CHA Beginning Stats: Weight - 125 # Ribs - 30" Waist - 30" Belly - 35" Quest 1:Be Adventurous and Active... I know that in order to reach my Main Goal and put a dent in my Epic Goal, I need to remain active. So I'm going to do a bit of a revisit of this Goal, with a few changes. First, I'm going to drop my "regular" weekday activities to 3...this could be my Yoga, NFPW, biking, walking, Barre, whatever. However, I'm going to get adventurous and try something totally new each week...this could be a group class at the gym (there are lots of free options), a new workout option from NF or other source, or unique activity option that presents itself...pretty much any activity I've never done before (or haven't done in a very long time)! I hopefully I'll gain 6 new options to use in future 6WCs or maybe a new favorite!! Lastly, I've notice that since I started tracking my activity using a pedometer, I'm blowing my bonus goal of 15 miles per week out of the water! So I'm going to raise it to 20 miles per week...let's see if I can keep it up! Grading:1 point = each activity (NFPW, nature trail, yoga, biking, archery, obstacle course, etc.) <3x / week>1 point = each new activity (group class, workout, activity, etc.) <1x / week>1 point = each weekend activity <1x / week>1 point = bonus for 20 miles pedometer cumulative for the week5+ points possible per week --> 30+ possible total Reward: +2 STR, +2 DEX, +2 STA Quest 2:Eating on a Mission... Ok, so this one will a be a bit interesting... Since my hubby is working towards getting within the specs of his PRT, I'm "dieting" with him... We're doing what's called the "Leptin Diet" in order to detox, cleanse and reboot our bodies in order to give our sluggish metabolisms a kick start! During this 6WC, we will see the end of Summer and the start of Autumn...so gardening will be a bit interesting. I will be rotating seasonal crops, so my harvest may be limited. Luckily, I can incorporate the local Farmer's Market to help ease that deficit! On top of that, we will be getting creative with our meals in order to utilize our excessive inventory in the pantry and deep freezer (courtesy of friends PCSing out and giving us all their grocery items!) into healthy dishes. Add to that the fact that we are entering my favorite season where pumpkin spice everything abounds!! Definitely a challenge...especially I'm allergic to anything that says "diet" (artificial sweetener allergy, which can kill me...)!! Grading:1 point = each fresh local produce dish <5x / week>1 point = each meal utilizing current pantry or freezer inventory <5x / week>10+ points possible per week --> 60+ possible total Reward: +1 CON, +1 WIS Quest 3:The 3 R's - Revisited... Yep, ya'll know the 3 Rs...Relax, Rest and Repair!! I've done well with this one in most of my 6WCs, but it's imperative in keeping up on my Epic Goal! Proper rest gives my body the chance to heal itself, lessening the pain, as well as granting proper energy to be active...which helps lessen the pain as well... It's a cycle...rest = repair = less pain = energy= activity = rest... So yeah, no changes here...just going to keep up the good habits! Grading:1 point = each relaxing evening <5x / week>1 point = each mind clearing evening <5x / week>1 point = each 8 hours ensured bedtime <5x / week>1 point = bonus for pampering myself15+ points possible per week --> 90+ possible total Reward: +1 CON, +1 CHA Main Life Quest:Control CHAOS... I didn't do too bad with this one last round...but I need to keep it up cuz there's still lots more to do!! A couple of slight changes...dropping the number of points by switching a couple of activities (the ones I tend to not do) to bonus points. This should help me to get all the points I need, while granting a couple of bonuses if I do that "little bit extra"! A potentially major "bonus goal" here is to get our Project Room cleared out so that we can use it again... Grading:1 point = Weekly Home Blessing completed <1x / week>1 point = Daily Zone Detail Cleaning <5x / week>1 point = Daily Zone Mission <5x / week>1 point = Daily Cleaning Routines <5x / week>1 point = each area decluttered & organized <1x / week>1 point = bonus for each box cleared 1 point = bonus for 10 items sold 17+ points possible per week --> 102+ possible total Reward: +1 STA Life Quest 1:Getting Stuff Done... This is a partial repeat from last time. I found that I had a few weaknesses in getting things done. I had great improvement in my scheduling practices, but there were a couple of areas that I still had issues with...specifically with NF postings. Now, granted, part of that issue was hindered due to a two-week hiatus of internet service. However, that was only two weeks out 6...I totally sucked on my own the other 4 weeks!! So I'm continuing my practice of scheduling, but also going to incorporate doing my NF postings and daily personal emails in order to turn those weaknesses into better habits! Grading:1 point = schedule created & maintained <5x / week>1 point = daily emails <5x / week>1 point = post NF Weekly Updates <1x / week>1 point = check & post NF minis <5x / week>16+ points possible per week --> 96+ possible total Reward: +1 WIS Life Quest 2:Study and Labor... This one is a total repeat from the last 6WC. Considering that we are stationed overseas in a non-English-speaking country, I am greatly limited in both educational and employment opportunities, and with today's level of internet-based technology, it's no surprise that my studies and job search venues are all online. So, since I had internet issues for over two weeks last round, I didn't do as well as I would have liked. So...this goal will be repeated, almost verbatim. Grading:1 point = each Herbology unit completed & exam passed <1x / week>1 point = all Herbology homework/projects completed per unit <1x / week>1 point = Financial Continuing Education work completed <1x / week>1 point = research job opportunities <3x / week>1 point = bonus for each application submitted1 point = bonus for each interview6+ points possible per week --> 36+ possible total Reward: +1 WIS, +1 CHA More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... This 6WC gives me a unique opportunity to step up and do more for my guild than just play and fight along side. Although I'm saddened by the reason why, I am hopeful that those reasons are quickly and painlessly absolved! Until then, I will do my best to ease any burdens and continue being encouraging to others while having fun with the Minis!! Grading:No points here...just a do or don't based on opportunity and situation. Any additional awards are based on whatever the mini's grant and the joy that comes from helping others succeed... For now, PvPs are up in the air. Although I did have some fun with the Adulting PvP last round, I don't know if they will be running it again. On top of that, I think that starting a new and different PvP might be biting off more than I can chew right now. So let's just wait and see what will be... See ya'll in the Challenge... 2 Quote Bast Level 8 Assassin Goddess STR: 19 DEX: 17 STA: 18 CON: 18 WIS: 18 CHA: 19 Challenges: Current 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 1/2 Battle Log PvP: Adulting & Accountability: The CutLasses Shimmy! Bast
Week 1 Summary So once again, I'm off to a bit of a slow start... Mostly due to my hubby (who just rejoined the Rebellion) and the fact I had two job interviews this week (YAY!!). But mostly, it was in my LIfe Quests that I faltered most. The week started out ok, but then we had some bad storms and earthquakes, but it finally cleared up for the weekend. Which was great because we had a great opportunity to see some Yabusame (Japanese Horseback Archery) on Saturday... It was really cool and somewhat heart-wrenching...I used to do it when we lived in the states and seeing the exhibition made me miss it even more!! I didn't get the photos or videos uploaded from my camera because Sunday we had archery (shooting it this time) at Camp Zama at the Sportsmans Club...and well, we were delayed by traffic and in those 15 minutes, I got elected to the new Board as Treasurer! What a HOLY CRAP moment!! And then when we got back, I helped my hubby run his second mock PRT for his Quest. All in all, it was a pretty good week! Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... I know there are no points assigned to this quest, but it is something I work on every...single...day. I also know that there are many others like me in the Rebellion who have Fibromyalgia. So this time around, I'm going to include a weekly awareness and inspirational tidbit along with how I personally did that week. That being said, this week had a slow start, a painful middle and a great end! We had some pretty nasty storms last week, which had me battling for about 3 or 4 days. Luckily, I am aware how the weather can affect me, so I keep an eye on weather reports and plan accordingly. Unfortunately, on Thursday eve (after a day full of thunder boomers, heavy rains and earthquakes) my cat, Luna Grace (who is a Maine Coon...very large cat, for those who don't know, she happens to be about 15 pounds!) got the bright idea to use my midsection for a spring board while I was lounging with my hubby and watching a movie...TWICE!! Needless to say, I flared...all night...slept for crap and felt awful the next day. But I took it easy as best I could (sucking it up long enough to go my second job interview) and was able to have a great weekend with lots of walking, physical activity and negligible pain! YAY!!! Main Quest: 2 points (out of 1.5)Loose the belly flop... This week went pretty well. We stayed active and didn't go crazy with the food...and I lost a pound and two inches!! YAY! Beginning Stats: Weight - 125 # Week 1 Stats: Weight - 124 # Week 2 Stats: Weight - Week 3 Stats: Weight - Week 4 Stats: Weight - Week 5 Stats: Weight - Ribs - 30" Ribs - 29" Ribs - Ribs - Ribs - Ribs - Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - Waist - Waist - Waist - Belly - 35" Belly - 34" Belly - Belly - Belly - Belly - Current Stats: Weight - 124 # Ribs - 29" Waist - 30" Belly - 34" Quest 1: 5 points (out of 5)Be Adventurous and Active... I did well here...had some difficulty with my three weekday activities (only did 2), but that was mainly due to weather and Fibro issues. However, I did nail 2 weekend activities! My new activity this week was doing a beginning Parkour practice. While I had the timer going for my hubby's timed run on both Tuesday and Sunday, I used tutorial video to work on rolls in the grass. No bonus points this week...I was just shy of my 20 mile goal with 19.91 tracked miles. Quest 2: 10 points (out of 10)Eating on a Mission... We did pretty good here...kept to the Leptin Diet for the majority of the week. We did splurge a bit over the weekend...I mean all that wonderful Japanese food at the Yabusame Festival...who could resist! But we didn't go completely crazy, and shared a lot with our friends who were there, too. I was delighted to realize that we had gotten accustomed to eating smaller portions, so it took much less to fill us up, thus keeping us from overeating! YAY!! We didn't do much on the inventory side, although I tried a new recipe for Crock Pot Chicken Enchilada Soup, which used up several excess canned goods we had in the pantry...but I only give 1 point per dish, not per item...and since it all went into the crock pot together...I only gave 1 point. The best part is that it was absolutely delicious!! I froze the leftovers so that we can see if they freeze well. I like dishes that I can make a lot all at once and freeze the rest for a later "heat and eat" meal for really bad or late days. Makes it easier on me! Quest 3: 18 points (out of 15)The 3 R's - Revisited... I think what really saved me this week, despite the weather and flares, was the fact that I made sure to try to get plenty of sleep. Now, I did have A LOT of sleep issues this week...one night was so bad I kept my hubby awake (somehow I slept through it...)!! But taking the time to unwind and meditate before bed has helped as well as going to bed at least 8 hours before the alarm. I've been making my hubby do this one with me this week (since he's on leave) and he's even noticed a difference in his sleep quality and energy the next day! So the 3 R's...not just from Fibros anymore! LOL!! Main Life Quest: 10 points (out of 17)Control CHAOS... OK, so this is where I totally belly flopped!! However, I not terribly surprised...when my hubby's on leave, housework usually falls by the wayside. We often do "staycations" because of our location... Living in Japan, there are all kinds of neat things to do on a day-trip. And of course, the first day or so, he sleeps and vegges with video games...catching up for what he doesn't get when working crazy hours! However, we did go into the project room and some serious decluttering and reorganizing...and we even completely cleared out 5 boxes (5 bonus points)!! We do have the goal of getting the Project Room usable again by the end of this 6WC...and I'd like to get the stuff we need to go through together cleared out while he's still on leave. Life Quest 1: 12 points (out of 16)Getting Stuff Done... And here we have another less than perfect score... This also was partially due to vacationing hubby and my own sidetrackedness... I did OK, with my schedule, but nada with daily emails... I did scan over them frequently in regards to the jobs I applied for (instructions state primary contact would be via email), but didn't take the time to sit down and go through each day's inbox. Although, I did keep up with my NF checks, posts and minis. Life Quest 2: 6 points (out of 6)Study and Labor... This was the only place I did good in the Life Quests...but this week was all about the job search!! I applied to three jobs with two different companies at the start of the week. I haven't heard anything back yet on one of the jobs. During my first interview for one of the other two of the jobs, I was informed that I didn't qualify for the other job I applied for with the same company. However, I did get a second interview a couple days later!! I was informed during the second interview that I should hear something this week...I'm crossing everything I have two of!! More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... I've been asked by Starsapart to help out as an Assassin Ambassador to the Recruits! I'm excited to give back to the guild that has given me so much and to help any fledgling Assassins find a home! Once I get with Starsapart to learn the proverbial ropes, I'll be off to serve along side my fellow Ambassadors!! The Assassin Fellowship of the Ring... Soooo...I'm an Elf...and this week we were "Walking to Mordor"! I was able to support my Elven Brethren in this, so I'll get the bonus +1 STA at the end of the 6WC. Week 1 Mini: Simply Walking to Mordor - Reward: +1 STAWeek 2 Mini:Week 3 Mini:Week 4 Mini:Week 5 Mini:Week 6 Mini: PvPs... OK, so it seems that the Adulting PvP isn't back on this challenge...and that's OK. I'm already doing the same stuff with my Main Life Quest, so no biggie there. Having one less thing to focus on will allow me the extra time that I might have spend on a PvP to use learning and serving as an Assassin Ambassador. So no PvPs this round... Next Week's Focus... Obviously, I need to work on my Life Quests. I need to study more, work on my daily housework and emails...not to mention catch up on those emails and the housework details and missions. Week 2 will be interesting in that my hubby will be in his last week of leave, I'll be learning the jobs of Treasurer for the Zama Sportsmens Club and Assassin Ambassador for Nerd Fitness. There is also the fact that we have a Holiday and our Anniversary this week...both of which usually mean lots of numma foods!! And of course, I can't forget that I need to monitor for the paid job update... We can catch up and get it done in Week 2!! Bast
Good job! How'd your rolls go? My first progression rolls were kind hard at first, but I'm having a lot of fun with the second progression. Bast
Mid-Week Review Ok, so this is to just see how I'm doing so far...and where I need to work on a few things... Epic Quest: Fight Fibro...I'm please with my progress here so far...the nightly disturbances to my sleep have made me a bit less energetic than I would like, but I'm not letting it derail me. I'm still being active, and some of my activities are creating a bit of soreness and achenes...legs from the walking (all last weekend too!) and biking, back and core from the lower ab target workout I did Monday, and my neck-which I'm not sure why there...my pillow has been flat in the front when I wake, so I think I may be sleeping with my head tilted forward instead of properly supported...or at least that's my best guess... Anyhoo, no real flares, just aches, so that's a victory! However, today I did have a major IBS issue...we were driving to Yokota base to do some Air Force Exchange scouting (Exchanges & Commissaries around here tend to stock different things depending upon which Branch of Service the base supports) and to check out their Craft Supply Shop (which Atusgi and Zama don't have). Needless to say, I had an IBS attack, and had to "suck it up" (no pun intended) for about 10-15 minutes (I'm guessing at the time...it felt like an eternity for me!!) until I could get to the first convenience store on my side of the highway...and when I did, I pulled in, tossed everything into my hubby's lap and did a hobble sprint step into the store to find the Holy Grail of Thrones!!! I'm delighted to say, I made it!! But when I came out, my hubby was there laughing at me...turns out I didn't put the car in park when I made my great exodus from the car... HOLY CRAP!! Nothing happened...it just rolled back a little bit...he was able to put it in park and take care of everything..WHEW!!! So that's a glimpse at one of the adventures of the Fibro Battles! There is another typhoon en route to this area. They aren't sure if it will stay on it's current course, or arch Northward. Either way, we will have some impact from the storm. It will just be a matter of how much, how severe and for how long... And since that kind of weather can affect me, I'm going to have to be extra nice to me to try and lessen the impact and remember that even if I flare, I'll be better and back to my old antics soon! So to inspire me to be successful in the face of the storm... Main Quest: Inches vs. WeightI've already lost 1/2 a pound and 1/2 an inch from my lower belly!! WOOT! One more inch to go to get my point for the week! Quest 1: Active & AdventureSo far so good...nailed 3 regular activities...did a lower core workout on Monday (and OMG! I'm STILL sore from that!), which is probably where that 1/2 inch went! LOL! Biked to the Commissary to pick up a few things and walked to the main gate and back...all in all, not too bad. I had planned on doing the free Zumba class on Friday as my "adventure", but my Thursday schedule got shifted to Friday (forces beyond my control changed appointment times...), which put the class ending at the same time I'm supposed to be at Camp Zama. So now I need to work in an alternative...either Body Combat on Thursday evening or Body Pump early Friday morning...decisions, decisions... And of course, my mileage is going well...over 11 miles so far...9 more to go to get my bonus point! Quest 2: Eat MissionHaven't really hit the inventory this week...although we did pull the "experiment" out of the freezer...and it was a success!! I had tried a new Crock Pot recipe for Chicken Enchilada Soup on Saturday (which tasted amazing!) and froze the leftovers. The "experiment" was in two stages, first, if the recipe was good (it was!) and if the leftovers froze well...meaning that reheating didn't alter the flavor or turn it to mush (it was perfect!). So now having passed with flying colors, this new recipe has found a coveted home in my personal cookbook!! FYI...since I prefer to cook (and eat) homemade meals, and because I will have days that are so bad that I can't even cook dinner, I like to cook large amounts of things and freeze the excess. That way, if it's a busy day or a bad flare day for me, we have healthy, homemade meals that can be easily reheated or cooked (like a TV dinner) in a pinch! The rest of the week will be interesting, to say the least. We'll be having Mabon Feast tomorrow and celebrating our Anniversary (Observed) this weekend...so lots of nummas to be had! Hopefully, I'll still be able to loose that last inch for the week! Quest 3: 3 R's I have had a little trouble sleeping...some getting to sleep and some staying asleep...and some from outside sources (hubby's unexpected alarm and cat's wanting attention or Garden Time)... But I've done well to meditate (especially when having trouble falling asleep) and go to bed 8 hours before planned get up times. Unfortunately, I've been a little lax in my relaxation and haven't don't any pampering... However, I've been really sore today, especially my back and neck, and had a nasty headache early (bad enough that I actually broke down and took meds!), so I think I'm going to indulge in a hot mineral soak before bed tonight...hopefully that will ease my aches and pains and relax me enough so that I fall asleep quickly and rest deeply... Main Life Quest: CHAOS Control Well, hubby is still on leave, so this one is falling waaaay short again... I haven't done any of the zone missions or details, nor the WHB, yet. I have been able to stay on top of the dailies this time...laundry and dishes (a little). I have also been doing some decluttering as well, but in an unusual place...my drawers! I saw a news blurb about the Japanese professional organizer whose book has been all the rage as of late. So I'm putting one thing they mentioned into action...just not in the way they suggest. They say to dump all your clothes into one big pile and do it all at once. Well, I have a life, so that's not too practical for me. So what I'm doing is I'm working on a drawer or two at a time as I'm putting away the laundry. It may not seem like much, but it allows me to not get overwhelmed by the task. Since it's been about 2 weeks since I did laundry (pretty much as long as hubby's been on leave...) those drawers are mostly empty! So I'm emptying each drawer, folding the newly cleaned clothes and placing them in the drawers the way the article suggests (so that you can see everything when you open the drawer), because I know I wear those regularly. Then as I refold everything that was still in the drawer, I only put what I love and will wear back into the drawer. The rest I set aside to be sold, donated or trashed (if it's that worn out or damaged). So far, I've gotten 7 drawers done, with 5 more to go...and only colors, darks and delicates (which mostly go in the closet) left on Mount Washmore! Life Quest 1: Gettin' It Done I've been a bit bad here, too...I haven't really made a set schedule (other than recurring activities) since my hubby's been on leave, and we've also run into situations where we shift our other activities around to accommodate, well, whatever... I've done nothing with my emails, other than monitor for certain things (waiting for word on the jobs I applied and interviewed for, and correspondence with a club I just got voted into as their new treasurer)...But I did do my checks, posts and updates for NF! So it's not a total loss... Life Quest 2: Laboring Study But here is where I'm totally bombing out... With everything else that's gone on this week, I haven't done jack or squat here...well, other than waiting to hear back on an application and an interview for two jobs from last week... However, today is when two of my tinctures from last month (yes, you heard me correctly...last month) should be ready so I can use them to make Elderberry Cough Syrup. In an unrelated activity (as in it's not part of my challenge, but is hindering me in some of my studies), my hubby has a few things he wants us to get done while he's still on leave...the first is to finish our Pumpkin Ale (all that's left to do is bottle it...), the second is to make a batch of mead, and if there's time, make the next batch of beer (Holiday Spice Ale). Right now, the kitchen and dining room (where I do my Herbology) are both a wreck as everything for those activities are currently staged... The Rest: Assassinship of the Ring & Ambassadoring Well, I am now officially an Assassin Ambassador! So I've been mostly learning the ropes, so far, but I'm doing pretty well...off to a pretty good start. Yesterday saw the start of our new mini...the Battle in the Mines (Balrog)...and so I've been doing dodges (squats) and blows (push ups)... but there's a catch... blows don't count without a dodge and vice versa, so everything must be in balance! I started out doing the same number for each, but it's looking like the Elves are getting in more dodges than blows...so today, all I've done is blows (push ups) to keep our score balanced. And that's fine by me...I've been doing mostly core and legs with the rest of my workouts this week, so this gives me some upper body work to balance it all out!! And at my last check of the spreadsheet, it looks like I need to get in 95 push-ups before bed... Let's see if I can keep up the momentum... Daryl of the Pines
Sorry I didn't get on board following this from day one. I've been having a bit of a slow start at this challenge as well. This looks like quite the comprehensive plan. How are those parkour rolls going? Here is the tutorial I often share with people, as it has helped me more than any other. I think the guy in the video has some background in aikido as well, which is definitely a roll/break fall - heavy martial art. You mentioned the differences in exchanges/commissaries. Is the NEX at Atsugi still...well...crappier (as far as selection) than the exchange over at Zama? I recall it was always a known fact when I was there from 2000 - 2003 that to get decent video games, movies, or really anything electronics or entertainment related, you had to go to Zama to get the new/good stuff. And they had Burger King. Which I wasn't crazy about, but I think Atsugi's lack of a BK made it desirable. Funny how I remember little stuff like that so well, yet a lot of the technical stuff I had to know associated with F-14 maintenance now escape me. 1 Quote Daryl of Barbaria - Ranger / Footpad "Smart-aleck jaybird!" Bast
I'm glad you got to stop by! I can sooo understand those slow starts! But hey, that's ok, as long as you still finish strong! That video is hilarious! Thanks! The rolls are good...just need to do more body conditioning...basically toughening up my body so I can do more and hurt less...Welcome to the wonderful world of Fibro! Yep, your memory hasn't failed you! Yokota is always the best (Air Force is spoiled), Zama is sometimes better that Yokosuka...but Atsugi is ALWAYS the worst in both selection and stock! Since my hubby was on leave, we did scouting runs to all the area bases...mainly I was looking for a new laptop, but it was a great excuse to see what they all had up and new! 1 Quote Bast Level 8 Assassin Goddess STR: 19 DEX: 17 STA: 18 CON: 18 WIS: 18 CHA: 19 Challenges: Current 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 1/2 Battle Log PvP: Adulting & Accountability: The CutLasses Shimmy! Take your time with the rolls. Especially considering the fibro. Someone very close to me battles with the same condition. She balances a fine line every day, knowing that too little activity causes pain, but that too much also causes pain. Come to think of it, in the nearly three years I spent at Atsugi, I only went to Yokota twice...the day I flew in for the first time, and the day I flew out for the last time. But I'm not surprised they have everything there. Air Force always does. Yokosuka was ok, but I didn't really like going there except when I had to (like the day before we had to get underway). Zama was usually the place to go, mainly because it was close. Everyone went there. I remember running across the CO of VFA-27 there, also buying video games. 1 Quote Daryl of Barbaria - Ranger / Footpad "Smart-aleck jaybird!" Link to comment
Bast
Week 2 Summary Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know I'm like two weeks behind on my updates...what can I say...I suck and life keeps happening! LOL! Nah, I don't really feel like I suck, but life does keep happening, but that's what life does, right? I'm just really glad that I have a spreadsheet that I create at the beginning of each 6WC and print out so I can fill it out every day to keep myself on track! This week was hubby's last week of leave, so there was a lot of travel and getting things squared away before he returned to duty. Also had some troubling news...a major organization on base that I am a member of, got disbanded...we all got a cryptic message about an emergency meeting and were informed by one of the base commanders of the situation. There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but the result is still the same...no more AESA. Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... I'm pleased with how well I did this week. I had some issues, but was able to handle all the driving and walking around as my hubby and I traveled to 3 other US Military Bases in our area and did some scouting and shopping (I was looking for a new laptop!). Although, I did have an IBS adventure on our way to Yokota Air Base...in Japan, public restrooms are rare outside of malls, and bus and train stations, and convenience stores aren't always on street corners, so getting to one when you are in "need" can be rather cumbersome! Luckily, I was able to find a convenience store on my side of the highway that had a public restroom and didn't have an "accident"! However, in my rush, I forgot to put the car in park!! I just threw the emergency brake, turned off the ignition, tossed the keys to hubby and ran for it!! LOL! Needless to say, my hubby was able to keep the car from rolling away so we didn't end up with a different kind of accident! LOL! Ah, well...'tis the adventure that is living with Fibro! Main Quest: 1.5 points (out of 1.5)Loose the belly flop... Even though we ate out a lot more than originally planned, I was still able to keep everything on track! I did drop about half pound and half an inch by mid-week, but I regained that half pound, and still dropped another inch! I really sucked here...with all the extra traveling we were doing, I wasn't able to do a new activity...bad me...no biscuti!! But I was still able to be relatively active...I got my three weekday activities and a weekend one, as well as lot of walking! So my bonus point for getting 26.78 miles for the week, which helped me to break even... Quest 2: 11 points (out of 10)Eating on a Mission... We only got to work on eating inventory on the days we were home, but when we were eating out, we made sure to get those veggies in!! So it all worked out pretty good... Quest 3: 15 points (out of 15)The 3 R's - Revisited... Broke even again here, too...being off from work and getting to sleep in kinda made this a little difficult. I only got one pamper session in this week, which helped me break even...so I need to work on this a bit more and not be so lax... Main Life Quest: 11 points (out of 17)Control CHAOS... And once again, I seriously face planted here...between hubby being home and all our travel, I didn't do my WHB, Zone Missions or Details...I was able to stay on top of my dailies and still did some decluttering and organizing, so at least that kept it from being a total loss... But we didn't get the Project Room finished like I had hoped...oh well, I guess it will now be a weekend project for the rest of this 6WC... Life Quest 1: 13 points (out of 16)Getting Stuff Done... Doing better here, but not by much... I didn't touch my daily emails at. all. But we did keep our schedule, and kept up with NF...but that was pretty much it. Life Quest 2: 3 points (out of 6)Study and Labor... And totally blew chunks here, as well... Again, too much travel to work on studies and job search...I did research and apply for one job and followed up from the one last week. Unfortuntately, they hadn't made a decision and said they'd let me know one way or the other next week...so here's to hoping... More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... So I was able to learn about being an Assassin Ambassador, and started working on a few things there. I think I'm doing ok so far...I've got some great people to work with and learn from! The Assassin Fellowship of the Ring... This week, we are to "Blow Away Balrog"!! We have to attack (push ups) and dodge (squats)...I started out matching both, but the Elves needed more attacks, so I concentrated on push ups... At the end of this 6WC, I'll get a bonus +1 STR! I'm already having difficulty keeping up with my own Challenge, Mini's and Ambassadoring, so t's official...no PvP this round... Next Week's Focus... Next week, hubby goes back to work, so it will be the time for me to get back into my routines and reestablish my good habits (especially with my Main and Life Quests), not to mention play catch up...on the house, on my studies, etc... And with the demise of AESA, the thrift store on base (which is run by AESA) is having it's "going out of business sale" next week...my goal is to pick up a few things for JATA (a different base organization that my hubby and I are the Pres & VP)... Bast
Week 3 Summary OK, so here I'm getting myself back on track this week...yeah, right..."best laid plans of mice and men..." Needless to say, there were more than a few wrenches thrown into my works... Monday started out good enough...as sad as the situation was, I got some great deals at the going out of business sale at the base thrift store (everything, including furniture, was a dollar!), but boy was it a mad house!! It gave the term "power shopping" whole new meaning!! However, I wasn't able to get what I had intended (a Christmas tree for the JATA holiday party) because they didn't have any Christmas stuff out. Afterwards, I spent the afternoon working on cleaning things from the store (everything was very dusty and a few were a little moldy) as well as doing some house cleaning. I was so tired and sore from the entire day, so in my infinite wisdom, I decided to treat myself to a nice pampering soak...well...I totally brain-farted and turned the water on full hot (like I had been doing all afternoon for cleaning & disinfecting things I cleaned...like the cat litter box...we have a single dial on our tub, so one knob for cold, hot or medium...). Suffice it to say, I didn't notice what I had done, and proceeded to add epsom salts and a spa bomb that has cayenne, ginger and lemon....Once the tub was full, I stepped in with my left foot...Oh. My. God. Hubby helped me to the couch and we wrapped it in ice packs and I took my meds! After two hours, he asked if I wanted to finish my soak...no f***ing way! So he went to soak (didn't want the spa water to go to waste)...but he couldn't...it was still too hot!!! Even after two hours of sitting, he had to run the cold water to cool it off enough for him to tolerate it!! Anyhoo, to make a long story short, I was very very lucky...I didn't burn (or damage in anyway) my skin, but I got what I called a "compression burn"...it felt like a seriously sprained foot and ankle (up to the shins) and my doctor (who I saw the next day) confirmed that there was no damage to my skin, but I still had the effects of the heat deep in the tissues! I tried to be easy on it on Tuesday, but that failed...the sale had shifted to a free-for-all...literally and figuratively! I went back with a friend to try again for the tree...I started out using my cane, but it got knocked out from under me so many times, I just gave up!! I white knuckled my way through the morning, and did get an awesome free bookshelf! But was pretty much on my butt the rest of the day and much of Wednesday (which I was a bit under the weather for...probably all the dust and mold from the thrift store clearance...)! I was able to be up and around by Thursday, which was good because the rest of my week was just as crazy...but with less pain and injury! Took in a new "stray" off the ship, this time it was an officer! LOL! We got to do an "all you can eat, drink and sing" Kareoke on Friday, let my "stray" (he is an actual friend of ours...) drive my car as I taught him how to drive from here to Yokosuka Base and use the Japanese Toll System on Saturday, and then bottled 5 gallons of homebrewed Pumpkin Spice Ale on Sunday... I think I might be ready for Week 4 so I can take a break! LOL! Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... This week was monumentous in my efforts to beat Fibromyalgia into remission!!! After my stupid terrible accident on Monday, I didn't stop! I rested and took care of my foot and leg, I slowed down, but I didn't let it stop me! In the 24 hours after the incident, I didn't do a specific workout, but I got up, I walked (hobbled is more like it), I lugged stuff and a solid hardwood bookshelf (from store to car to home) and I logged 6.04 miles on my pedometer!! Yes, I flared. Yes, I was sore. Yes, I was tired. Yes, I even broke down and had to take my pain meds. But what is important here is that I didn't give up. I didn't resign myself to lethargy. I continued to do what needed to be done. And I am proud of me!! Main Quest: 0.5 points (out of 1.5)Loose the belly flop... I'm a little surprised at this, considering how active I was (despite an injury), but then I realize, I had to eat something every time I took my meds, had a "fancy" dinner to welcome our friend home from the ship, had an "all you can eat, drink and sing" Kareoke night, Indian Curry for lunch (as a thank you from my friend for teaching him to navigate the Japanese Highway to the next base), and a weekend full of numma leftovers...so now I'm a little surprised I did this good! LOL! Beginning Stats: Weight - 125 # Week 1 Stats: Weight - 124 # Week 2 Stats: Weight - 124 # Week 3 Stats: Weight - 123 # Week 4 Stats: Weight - Week 5 Stats: Weight - Ribs - 30" Ribs - 29" Ribs - 29" Ribs - 29" Ribs - Ribs - Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 29.5" Waist - Waist - Belly - 35" Belly - 34" Belly - 32" Belly - 32" Belly - Belly - Current Stats: Weight - 123 # Ribs - 29" Waist - 29.5" Belly - 32" Quest 1: 5 points (out of 5)Be Adventurous and Active... I could say I did poorly, but in reality, I did very well considering my condition for the week...one injury and a day of illness.. I didn't do much in the way of "regular" workouts. However, I'm counting the amount of effort I put in "power shopping"...there was lots of lifting, shifting, balancing, hauling...and a few rounds of serious heavy lifting (solid hardwood bookshelf ring a bell? Did I mention it's about 7 feet tall?!?)!! I considered counting this experience as my "New Activity" for the week, but opted against it, but I suppose it technically counts...I haven't done this in a really long time (if ever...I really can't recall...). What pleases me most is that despite all the issues (injury and illness), I got my bonus point by logging 31.11 miles for the week!! Quest 2: 8 points (out of 10)Eating on a Mission... Yeah, not so much here...when we ate out, there weren't too many veggie options...and eating out means not eating inventory, either. But still, it could have been worse! Quest 3: 12 points (out of 15)The 3 R's - Revisited... Came up short this week. I am not counting the attempted pampering that lead to my injury...because I didn't actually get to soak! I also don't count the rest and recovery I did for my injury and illness this week, because that's just necessary maintenance care, not special pampering. I was pretty good about resting & relaxing, and somewhat on meditating (helped get me through the pain), but not so much on going to bed 8 hours before I needed to get up. I did return to the tub on Sunday evening for a nice relaxing soak...this time, I paid close attention to the water temperature!! LOL!! Main Life Quest: 26 points (out of 17)Control CHAOS... I finally rocked this one!! I was able to get a lot of catching up on my Zone Details and Missions from the last couple of weeks! I also maintained me Daily Cleaning Routines! There was a bit of declutter and organizing...had to get those books on the new shelf and do something with the deals I got! LOL! Life Quest 1: 7 points (out of 16)Getting Stuff Done... Seriously backslid here...I kept up on my schedule (with the exception of having to cancel a meeting while sick and injured). However, I didn't post my NF updates or do my daily emails...no way to elevate my foot at my desk...and when it was better, I was too busy with other stuff...blarg! Life Quest 2: 1 points (out of 6)Study and Labor... ...and this was even worse! I did get the chance to research jobs once, but that was it... More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... I started to work on checking the Week 2 updates before I hurt myself, but never got back to it...I'm going to have to work harder next week so that our recruits aren't left hanging... The Assassin Fellowship of the Ring... We got to "Relax in Rivendell" this week...I started out stoked about doing the full yoga challenge, and then I pulled a stupid!! Oh well, I did get a few in...so I earned my +1 CHA! So now that we have reached the half-way point in this 6WC, there's a lot I need to do to get not only back on track, but caught up!! My Main Quests are pretty much on course...I just need to work on doing a new activity. My Life Quests are a disaster!! I need to seriously work harder at the housework, emails and NF posts. Most of all, I need to stop neglecting my studies and job search!! Don't get dragged through Week 4!! Bast
Week 4 Summary Wrenches...Wrenches...and more Wrenches!!! This 6WC has been so full of wrenches in my works!! I need to start learning to dodge those suckers!! Anyhoo, last week got almost totally derailed...Still had my "stray"...who knew officers were so much more needy and helpless than enlisted?!? LOL!! The main part of the week was full of last minute "OMG! This needs to get done NOW (or Yesterday!)!!" So no matter how hard I tried to keep on track, I got derailed at least six ways to Sunday! LOL!! However, the weekend wasn't a total bust... First, we got the Holiday Spice Ale prepped on Friday and in the primary fermentor bucket...it should be ready by Yule! But it did take us much longer to get it done due to more wrenches... Saturday was great! We went to the annual Oktoberfest in Yokohama! Unfortunately, we woke up Sunday, not with hangovers (although I would have preferred that!), but with the nasty creepin' crud that's been going around!! We both had sore throats, severe sinus head congestion (with headaches), sinus drainage, coughing...the works! So we spent the day sipping herbal teas, bone broths and did our shots of Demon Cider (my friend named my herbal decongestant and expectorant!) and went to bed at a reasonable hour. And yes, we woke up feeling much better on Monday...still with some sinus congestion, but not nearly as blarg as we were! Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... Once again, I got to start the week in a rough way...upon reluctantly getting out of bed on Monday morning, my hubby flopped back down on the bed...and caught me in the lower back (direct hit to a major trigger point!!) with his entire weight and momentum...needless to say, that really really REALLY hurt!!! I know he didn't mean to, and I didn't hold it against him, but I was down for the day...which really sucked! But I was good...I took my meds, I rested and applied heat and ice to the area and was able to be up and back to my antics by Tuesday! However, my back remained sore for the majority of the week. Despite the unfortunate situation, I am pleased that I was able to continue to be active, with only a day of being out of proverbial commission...especially after the injury just a week before!! There was once a time in which an issue like that would have had me down for days...weeks, if you count the previous week's boo-boo!! So YAY!!! Main Quest: 1.5 points (out of 1.5)Loose the belly flop... I'm stunned that I did this well, considering how I flopped on many of my activities as well as an injury...on top of major eating and drinking at Oktoberfest AND all the "extras" while sick. I gained a little, but still lost those inches...hmmm...I hope this doesn't come back to bite me in the flab next week! Ok, so I know I didn't do so well here... Luckily, I got my bonus point with 22.58 miles for the week! Unfortunately, in looking over this 6WC, I'm totally failing on the "try something new" category. Things just always seem to keep coming up and/or getting in the way of trying out a new activity. However, my ultimate goal is to keep up my activity levels...no matter what...and I've done that! My weekly total mileage shows that and even with injuries! So I guess I need to work harder to get in some Adventuring! LOL! Quest 2: 11 points (out of 10)Eating on a Mission... I made it...barely...the "extra" point came from the fact that my Hubby had a potluck and wanted me to make rolls for it...I was able to use up some of my extra baking supplies. Although we didn't eat all of it (majority went to his office), we did eat some and it still used up some of my inventory! It seems that since I'm doing my hubby's diet with him, I'm not nailing the inventory as much as I would like, however, the produce is making up for it. I can't wait for his PRT to be over... Quest 3: 16 points (out of 15)The 3 R's - Revisited... I barely made it here, too! Like last week, I did not count the rest and recovery I did for this week's injury as pampering. However, I did have a relaxing soak for a bonus point! But I do need to work on getting back on track here! Main Life Quest: 9 points (out of 17)Control CHAOS... Totally. Blew. Chunks. I didn't do my Zones at all, and I didn't do my WHB. I was able to stay on top on the Dailies, and got some decluttering and 1 box cleared. I guess I need to work harder in Week 5 to get caught back up! Life Quest 1: 13 points (out of 16)Getting Stuff Done... Didn't improve as much as I would have liked...wrenches being what they are...but I'm working on it! Life Quest 2: 3 points (out of 6)Study and Labor... I did a little bit of studying Herbology...but mainly in the area of practical application...we were both sick, so I applied what I had learned (and researched a couple of things) and now we're so much better for it!! I did get to check on available jobs once, but nothing I could apply for. Oh well...maybe it'll be better next week... More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... I took at look at the Week 3's, but my amazing counterparts had beat me to it! We've got some great Ambassadors! I need to really work hard to come even close!! The Assassin Fellowship of the Ring... This week we went to battle against the Orks! Jumping Lunges and Pull ups...I started out pretty good with 30 jumping lunges (well, once my back had healed!)...but those damn wrenches got in the way, so I didn't get the chance to post the rest of the ones I did!! I also never got the chance to do any pull ups (no bar in the house or where I went, but the jumping lunges I did at random intervals), and I totally missed the Champions Battle...however, the Elves' Champion won! OK, I know I said I was going to get back on track in Week 4...well, wrenches are evil when you have no bolts!! So I'm going to work on getting back down to the nuts and bolts! If this means I need to have a check list for every little thing, so be it!! It seems that the lack of bolts couldn't stand up to the influx of so many wrenches that my train is teetering on the edge of derailment!! I shall make a nit-picky checklist with every little thing on it! Since my Life Quests are suffering the most, I will focus there first...I will catch up on my Zones, I will do my WHB, I will make my schedule and stick to it, I will clear my email inbox, I will do my NF posts and follow ups, I will search & apply for jobs, I will do my studies. Then I can see about my Main Quest...I will do my weekday and weekend activities, I will do TWO (count 'em, 2!) new activities, I will eat on a mission (as best I can with Hubby's diet), I will take the time to relax, meditate and pamper myself and I will go to bed early! And I will be sure to have fun playing with my Guild!! But most importantly...I will say "no" to people who make last minute demands on me...I have to remember that my life (and my family) is important, and it's OK to say "no" so I can spend that time on what I (and my family) need. Bast
Week 5 Summary Why is it that just when we start to do well, Murphy bitch slaps us to the ground?!? As I stated last week, we ended the week feeling a bit under the weather. While we both felt better on Monday, it didn't last long for me. I pushed myself too hard and was way too active, apparently. Monday, I went on an outing to an Owl Cafe, a Dairy and a Japanese-style Cookout with friends. Honestly, I was going to stay home and work on things around the house and take it easy, but my husband insisted expressing that I "deserve it" because I had "earned it"...so I went. I started feeling puny again on Tuesday, but instead of resting, I worked on catching up on all the Adulting I didn't do on Monday, went out to a meeting and ended up staying out waaaay too late! I was feeling a little worse on Wednesday, but I didn't stop or rest...no, not me!! I plugged away at household chores with a stopped up head and very sore throat...I had been taking my herbal remedies...teas, bone broths, Demon Cider, etc, but I didn't stop to rest. Thursday, I suppose, was the proverbial final nail in that coffin...I was running around all day prepping for a major meeting that afternoon, which lasted over 3 hours with me talking A LOT and straining my voice trying to be heard...which started the coughing...Then I was out in the rain more than I should have been on Friday, trying to wrap up a few things, and my hubby got issued his flu vaccine early at his office...he wasn't supposed to get it for another week. I'm not sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing, but they gave him the up the nose version of the vaccine...every time he gets that one, I end up sick...and this round has been no exception!! So far, there was no congestion in my chest, just my head, but the cough had begun to get worse...now it wasn't only when I was talking too much. Saturday, I did what I should have done earlier in the week..I didnt' get out of my jammies and lounged on the couch all day, sipping my teas and broths while watching One Piece!! Sadly, Sunday undid any potential good the rest provided...Ended up going to a meeting that should have had me back home and resting shortly after lunchtime...but Murphy had other ideas! We got there (it's about a 30 minute drive away) shortly before 1000, and didn't leave until after 1730!! Luckily, we had packed a lunch (I packed some of my infused broth) and I was able to sip on tea loaded with honey and lemon all day. However, I did waaaay too much talking (DUH! it is me, ya know!) and every time I laughed, I ended up having a violent coughing fit!! Needless to say, when we got home, I felt quite craptastic (between the illness and the stress of the meeting results both!). I took my medicine and went to bed early...but had several coughing fits during the course of the night...and awoke on Monday feeling the worst I had since it all began, and now I had a low fever... Luckily, my husband hasn't gotten as bad as I have, even though he was the one to get the vaccine...he does have a little congestion, a slight sore throat and an occasional cough...but nothing major. He's been taking his herbal remedies as well, so that's helping him keep it all at bay! But as for me, I will be all about being nice to me!! I need to get over this mess, so I'm going to take it easy and take my remedies so that I can get over this crud and be fully functional again!! Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... Getting sick when you have Fibro can be a serious issue. Many cold and flu symptoms are shared with everyday Fibro issues...aches, pains and fatigue being the top three... But the sinus pressure and congestion, and sore throat were my only indicators that I was battling more than just Fibro. With that said, once you do actually get sick, it can be soo much more difficult, because the illness can amplify the issues of Fibro...and vice versa...it's a nasty cycle!! It can also conceal how sick you really are, so you think you're OK, and just plug along like you always do with Fibro, and then the next thing you know, you're down with a full blown fever and infection!! So that's what's happened to me this week.... The hard part is remembering that this isn't the end...and that it will pass. Yeah, Fibro conspired with a creeping crud to take me down...and it took them working together to succeed... But I will get back up... And when I do, I'm coming up fighting even harder than before!! But for now, I'll relax here for a moment, rest my body, heal my wounds and gather my strength... And plot my revenge!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Main Quest: 0 points (out of 1.5)Loose the belly flop... So not too bad...with being as sick as I have been, I've lost two pounds, but no inches...and most importantly, I didn't gain anything! So I actually consider this a success...it's too easy to slip back and loose ground when illness hits. I'm please with myself that I didn't do that! So yeah, no surprise I didn't do well at all here...illness does that! I got one workout on Monday, but that was it. I am proud of myself that, despite being sick, I still logged 19.17 miles for the week!! Granted, it was just shy of gaining my bonus point, but still pretty damn good for being sick! Quest 2: 10 points (out of 10)Eating on a Mission... I broke even here. Mostly because I've been hitting the broth reserves in my inventory. I also took all the chicken bones that I had been collecting in the freezer and made a big batch of bone broth, which lessened the freezer inventory! Quest 3: 15 points (out of 15)The 3 R's - Revisited... I broke even here as well. After Tuesday, I made it a point to go to bed on time...but unfortunately, by the end of the week, I wasn't getting much rest due to coughing fits when lying down. But remember, the point goes to the effort, not the affect...so although I didn't rest well, I tried. I only gave one pampering point, for the soak I took on Thursday (I felt like I had been beaten up with a baseball bat!!). I did not give myself pampering points for the little things I did to try to get well...that I consider to be maintenance. Main Life Quest: 24 points (out of 17)Control CHAOS... I worked hard this week to get caught up on my Zone Missions and Details...I got all my Zone 3s done, and caught up on my Zone 1s. I stayed on top of my Dailies...however I didn't do my WHB or any decluttering. Life Quest 1: 11 points (out of 16)Getting Stuff Done... I stayed on top of my schedule, but bombed on my emails. I started out pretty good with my NF Posts, but petered off by the end of the week as both illness and life started to spiral out of control... Life Quest 2: 3 points (out of 6)Study and Labor... Herbology was in the area of practical application, I did do a job search, and found one I've been waiting for! But I didn't get the chance to work on my application. I did have the opportunity to follow up on a job I had applied for in September (which I had figured I didn't get because I hadn't gotten a call back) and found out that they were still doing interviews. More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... I did some Ambassadoring...and caught a guy who almost fell through the cracks!! But life and illness caught up to me, so I didn't get to do any more after Thursday The Assassin Fellowship of the Ring... This week we had to crawl through the ravine and battle the giant spider!! So bear crawls and leg lifts!! I started out great doing 113 bear crawls back and forth across my yard...they cats didn't know what to think!! They would "intercept" me for attention as I either made it to the end, or as I was crossing the yard!! It made for a very interesting experience!! I got some of the leg lifts in, but didn't get the chance to post them all before the page got locked. Oh, well...I got my +1 DEX for participation! Well, I now realize I'm not going to finish as strong as I would have liked. However, I realize where my shortcomings were and are...as well as accepting that which is out of my control (like being sick!). In Week 6, I'm going to focus on being nice to me...letting myself heal and recover while avoiding Murphy throwing those damn wrenches! LOL! I'm also not going to punish myself for being sick, instead I'll work on getting better! So far, I'm passing everything, so I think it'll all be ok, so long as I get over this creeping crud!! Bast
Week 6 Summary ...and like poor Cameron, people called me to drag me out of my deathbed... Well, sort of... On Monday and Tuesday, I was able to clear my schedule and just let myself be sick...it helped. But I wasn't so lucky the rest of the week. But I was a good girl and took it as easy as I could and did my best to be nice to me... Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... I took the time to rest and let myself be sick. Sometimes you prolong the illness or end up making yourself worse by fighting to act like you aren't sick. Surprisingly, it's much harder to accept this than it is to do it! More often than not, we beat ourselves up for being sick...and that was my biggest battle this week. Main Quest: 1.5 points (out of 1.5)Loose the belly flop... It's no surprise that I gained 1/2 a pound...however the fact that I lost 1.5 inches baffles me... I suppose all that violent coughing was a pretty good core workout... Beginning Stats: Weight - 125 # Week 1 Stats: Weight - 124 # Week 2 Stats: Weight - 124 # Week 3 Stats: Weight - 123 # Week 4 Stats: Weight - 125.5 # Week 5 Stats: Weight - 123.5 # Ribs - 30" Ribs - 29" Ribs - 29" Ribs - 29" Ribs - 29" Ribs - 29" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 29.5" Waist - 29" Waist - 29" Belly - 35" Belly - 34" Belly - 32" Belly - 32" Belly - 31" Belly - 31" Current Stats: Weight - 124 # Ribs - 28.5" Waist - 28.5" Belly - 30.5" Quest 1: 1 points (out of 5)Be Adventurous and Active... I had no energy to do any workouts. I tried to do the Assassin's Mini, and that not only exhausted me, but it also made me feel very dizzy and woozy! I did do a lot of walking at a Festival on Sunday (that I had to attend), so there's my Weekend workout. I didn't do too bad by logging 14.9 miles for the week, but not nearly enough for a bonus point. Quest 2: 12 points (out of 10)Eating on a Mission... All the broth and soups came from the inventory this week. Also, Hubby completed his weigh-in for his PRT this week, so we went back on regular meals...I cooked mainly from the inventory when I had the energy to cook again! We did get a "bonus" by eating a Butternut Squash from the garden this week...boy was it tasty! I'm looking forward to enjoying the rest, which are "stored" for the season! Quest 3: 21 points (out of 15)The 3 R's - Revisited... This was above and beyond...no pampering points, because I didn't do anything I'd consider "pampering"...just taking care of myself for recovery. However, every night I would relax, meditate (especially when I was having trouble sleeping, often due to coughing) and went to bed early! Granted, I didn't get much "quality" sleep...coughing kept me up alot! But I get the points for the effort, not the result. Main Life Quest: 7 points (out of 17)Control CHAOS... I only had the energy to take care of dailies. Which is OK...by staying on top of the dishes and laundry as well as picking up after myself kept the house from spiraling into a disaster area! I can focus on rebooting my zones and routines when I'm healthy again! Life Quest 1: 5 points (out of 16)Getting Stuff Done... There wasn't much if a schedule to stay on top of this week...but I got some of my NF postings done... However, I took me pretty much all day Monday to write up and send one email because I was having trouble concentrating, which was why I ended up not touching my emails at all for the rest of the week. Life Quest 2: 1 points (out of 6)Study and Labor... I only did one Herbology in the area of practical application, which was to help me recover. More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... I did a little Ambassadoring...but had difficulty concentrating. I did inquire from my fellow Ambassadors about how we usually wrap up a 6WC... The Assassin Fellowship of the Ring... It was the final climb to Mount Doom and to choose a Champion. I was able to do some mountain climbers, but not very many...they made me very dizzy and I became quite exhausted alot faster than I would have liked...but hey, that's the nature of being sick, right? I still got my +1 WIS for participation, but posted to my fellow Elves my inability to serve as the Elven Champion due to my illness along with my apologies. Week 1 Mini: Simply Walking to Mordor - Reward: +1 STAWeek 2 Mini: Battle in the Mines - Reward: +1 STRWeek 3 Mini: Relax in Rivendell - Reward: +1 CHAWeek 4 Mini: Hunt some Ork - Reward: +1 CONWeek 5 Mini: Survive Cirith Ungol - Reward: +1 DEXWeek 6 Mini: Time to Climb - Reward: +1 WIS End of Challenge Focus... OK, so I'll be wrapping this round up and posting that soon, then I'll shift everything to my Battle Log. I've already been contemplating the next 6WC, which only gives me a week to put it all together. There's no rest for the wicked weary... Bast
6 WC Wrap Up This one was more than just a bit frazzling...but most of that was totally beyond my control. However, I did bite off a little bit more than I should have, making it hard for me to chew it all! First, my Hubby finally rejoined the Rebellion, so I did a lot to help support him...he also needed me to actively participate twice a week for his Quest Goals... I took on the happy task of serving the guild as an Ambassador. It took a bit more time than I expected, but that's OK...part of that was the learning curve! In my personal life, I had a definite issue with saying "no"... I got elected as a Treasurer for a club I had just joined (so I could shoot archery), which posed it's own excessive time constraints and ended badly after a month (due to the former Treasurer getting brought up on charges and the club shut down pending the investigation). Luckily, I worked hard to ensure 100% reconciliation, so my brief tenure is fine...but sadly, I can't shoot archery anymore...but I'm hoping that won't last too long! I also agreed to help out a friend with one thing, which quickly turned into one more thing...and another...and another...and, well, you know the rest!! LOL! Luckily, about 3 weeks later, that is now over...however, it did hamper my recovery when I was sick...I kept having to go out and function when I should have been resting. One could say that I totally belly flopped the last two weeks, but getting sick was not part of my plan...nor was it lasting as long as it did! But I've learned a few good things, and have some new ideas I can't wait to incorporate to the next round! Epic Quest:Defeat my Mortal Enemy... Obviously no where near defeated... These last two weeks were a serious challenge for me. Being sick often amplifies Fibro issues and in some cases, the Fibro can mask the illness, until it's waaay too late and you're REALLY sick!! It started out as just a sinus infection...then morphed into a cold...and when my Hubby got his flu vaccine (the spray version) and promptly smooched on me, and thus the chest congestion ensued making it a full-blown upper respiratory infection!! The hard part of being sick was how much it affected my sleep quality...when it finally got bad enough to be in my chest, I couldn't recline, much less lie down, without going into coughing fits. The hardest part for me was saying "no" to people...even though I was sick. I need to work on that!! But when I finally did, I took care of myself and got better. However, I had to fight to remind myself that I didn't get sick on purpose and to not kick myself for not being able to do everything that I wanted and needed to do. But then that's the nature of Fibro. I made it a point to remember that I am blessed...My hubby helped me when he could, and supported me so that I could rest and recover. He also didn't grouse at me for coughing at night...but he did grouse at me for trying to sleep on the couch so I wouldn't disturb him! LOL!! So I may have had a set back this round, but I did start strong and progressed well up until getting sick. And that's what matters...not letting this keep me down or defeat me... I still woke up this morning, so I can try again... Main Quest:Loose the belly flop... I lost a total 7.5 inches out of 10...not too bad. I think I would have done better if I had not gotten sick. As it stands, I finished with a score of 75%...if I drop one week of illness it's 100%...if I drop both weeks of illness it's 125% for an average of 100%! SCORE!! Beginning Stats: Weight - 125 # Current Stats: Weight - 124 # Ribs - 30" Ribs - 28.5" Waist - 30" Waist - 28.5" Belly - 35" Belly - 30.5" Grading: 100% Reward: +1 CHA Quest 1: Be Adventurous and Active... I did really well...well, up until I got sick. I had a bit of trouble doing a new activity each week...but luckily, that got covered by my weekly mileage bonus point! So as it stands, I got 70% for the full 6 weeks, 84% if dropping one week of illness and 105% if dropping two weeks of illness for an average of 86%...pretty good... Grading: 86% Reward: +2 STR, +2 DEX, +2 STA Quest 2: Eating on a Mission... Did good here, even when I was sick! Got mostly produce during the first two thirds, and inventory for the last third...so it evened out. Scored 103% for the full challenge, so no adjustment. Grading: 103% Reward: +1 CON, +1 WIS Quest 3: The 3 R's - Revisited... Finished this one above and beyond...didn't do too much pampering this round, but I did spent A LOT of time just trying to heal myself...much more than I would have liked!! Although, I am looking forward to my end-of-challenge Onsen day!! Finished the entire 6 weeks with 108%, WOO HOO!! Grading: 108% Reward: +1 CON, +1 CHA, +1 Onsen visit! Main Life Quest: Control CHAOS... It felt like I totally bit off more than I could chew here... In essence, it was all stuff I should have been doing anyway, but it seemed like I had some serious trouble staying on top of it...and two weeks of illness didn't help!! But in actuality, I didn't do too bad. I completed the full 6 weeks with 85%...if I drop one week of illness it goes to 102% and 128% when dropping two weeks of illness for an average of 105%. Grading: 105% Reward: +1 STA Life Quest 1: Getting Stuff Done... This one was HARD!!! I did great with my schedule, and hung in there with the NF posts...even while sick...but the daily emails I totally face planted on!! I guess I'll have to work harder on it next round...so for the full 6 weeks, I scored 64%...drop one week for illness and it's 76% and both weeks for illness was 95% for an average of 78%...barely passing... Grading: 78% Reward: +1 WIS Life Quest 2: Study and Labor... I had serious issues here...I started out strong, but then life started hindering me and then illness struck...I guess my saving grace was the fact I was able to put what I had learned from my Herbology studies to treat myself while I was sick. Actually, there had been a bug going around the base and through my Herbology applications, we were able to stave off getting sick...I guess that's why it hit me so hard when I did get sick...that nasty bug wanted to get even!! LOL!! Anyhoo, the full 6 weeks scored 47%, one week for illness was 57% and two weeks of illness was 71% for an average of 58%. Technically, that's a failing score, but since I've adjusted to a do or don't grade, that'll be irrelevant. However, I did do a lot of practical applications...and I didn't give myself points for that every time...if I had, my score might've been different. I also provided some of the same remedies we used to friends who asked for them...I suppose that counts, too... Grading: 58% Reward: +1 WIS, +1 CHA More than a little bit extra:Do my part to support my Guild... I survived my first 6WC as an Ambassador...I feel pretty good about it! I served with some great Assassins and met some great Recruits along the way. I'm really looking forward to seeing them succeed in their first challenge with the Assassins! I'll be serving again as an Ambassador next round. The Assassin Fellowship of the Ring... It was hard...harder than I had planned on it being. Mostly it was trying to find the time to do everything...until I got sick...it was a matter of getting woozy and wiped!! But I did my part to help my fellow Elves succeed...we didn't...but we tried! Most importantly, we had fun doing it!! Week 1 Mini: Simply Walking to Mordor - Reward: +1 STAWeek 2 Mini: Battle in the Mines - Reward: +1 STRWeek 3 Mini: Relax in Rivendell - Reward: +1 CHAWeek 4 Mini: Hunt some Ork - Reward: +1 CONWeek 5 Mini: Survive Cirith Ungol - Reward: +1 DEXWeek 6 Mini: Time to Climb - Reward: +1 WIS End of Challenge Focus... It's time once again to update my stats, relax a bit, and reflect on the last 6WC before I need to plot, er, plan for the next one... I have a few ideas of what I'd like to do, or perhaps try, for the next one. Not to mention my Hubby will be joining the Assassins for the first time, having successfully survived the Recruits (FINALLY!! LOL!!)!! We've discussed a few things to do together with our challenges...now we just need to iron it all out. Meanwhile, I'll see you in my Battle Log, if you care to be entertained my my interim musings...
