Skinny Guy seeking muscles without getting bulky

Recommended Posts

I am a runner. I've done two half marathons and I am currently training for a marathon. I am really skinny. I eat a lot of garbage and drink a lot of beer, but thanks to my running I don't get fat. I want muscles and a six pack, I know everybody does. I have no idea what to do in the gym to help me get the shape I want to. I don't want to get bulky at all. Any exercises and diets that you recommend for me?

Thank you

Muscles=bulk, that's the way it is. Muscle is literally meat. If you're talking about definition, that's bodyfat levels, and controlled by how much you eat.

Want to gain muscles and bulk without hurting your running? Squat, and squat heavy. It'll build bigger, stronger motors in your legs as well as your torso. Some of the best long distance runners in the world have barbell squatting as a cornerstone of their workout. I just got back from camp NF, and whomever the running headmaster is (forget his name as I tend to do, but really cool dude) was squatting and deadlifting in the powerlifting competition with the best of us. I was told he has a marathon mile pace of something in the 6 minute range.

In the end though, if you lift, eat, and keep running, your body will find the adaptions it needs to make for you to excel at all your athletic endeavors.
