Good question.  Basically, I haven't been eating anything that has sugar listed in the ingredients (that includes the tricky names for sugar too!).  So for instance, I will eat a small handful of raisins, but I won't do dried cranberries.  Fresh fruit and berries are my go-to though.  I don't really ever eat dried fruit unless its raisins.  (PS - raisins mixed with whole cashews is about as close to perfection as it gets!)

 

The cravings haven't been too bad this week, but yesterday I was at the store looking for an outlet adapter, walked around the corner, and BAM!  It was like Halloween candy utopia.  I ran away as though the aisle was filled with zombies!!   :lol:

When the world seems to just jump in your face, it is a very good move to remember things that enhance your mood and make you happy. Like your examples: many times it's the simple things that have this power. The right temperature for your coffee, a good hair day (in my case lol), a day where everything actually runs as smooth as it was intended...

 

To remind oneself can take the sting out of the constant rage. It has healing powers.

I used to eat dried apricots.  I liked the flavor, but the texture kinda bothered me for some reason.  I've never had dried pineapple.  The next time I go to our health store, I'll have to check that out and see if they're "safe".  :frog:

Truth time.

 

I ate some french fries and had a steak hoagie on Friday night for dinner.  Bread and fries are not eating like a boss, but I could've done a lot worse.

 

Saturday (Halloween), I drank beer and ate pizza.  Probably more than I should've, but I ate and drank knowing I was making a conscious decision to do so.  Today, I will probably have a couple leftover slices, but then tomorrow it's back to business.

 

Also, on Halloween, I had made up my mind that I was 100% going to break my no-sugar streak.  I wanted sugar and I was going to eat it.  But guess what?!  We ate breakfast at the resort and they had a buffet.  I decided I was going to eat a scone, but when I looked at them, they just didn't seem very appealing, so I passed.  I had eggs, bacon, potatoes, fresh fruit, and black coffee.  I did encounter a "hiccup" when I went to get some oatmeal and thought I put raisins in it but discovered that they were those nasty Craisins (dried cranberries with a butt-load of sugar).  I didn't eat anymore of the oatmeal because it had the consistency of gluey, mushy buggers and was tainted with sugar cranberries.  I'm not counting the accidental consumption of a few little Craisins as a reason to restart my count, but it will remain in the back of my mind as just a "little hiccup" because I truly (albeit accidentally) did consume a bit of sugar.

 

Also, later that evening, I went into a convenience store when my boyfriend and I stopped to get gas before heading back home after our hot springs trip, and I looked at every. single. candy bar and cookie, and brownie that I could see and decided that I was way too full from beer and pizza and that I couldn't possibly fit any more food into my belly.  I left with nothing.   :triumphant:  HUGE WIN for me!

 

I'm not weighing in this week because of the beer and pizza.  I'm pretty sure the weight that I probably gained is superficial, but if I see a higher number than I want to, it might cause me to go into a downward spiral.

I was reading a little bit about kosher and halal, and either one or both of them seems to consider "accidental ingestion" a minor thing.

 

But yeah, your cravings might get a little more intense, but I'm sure you can still keep them in reign.  Good job on not breaking your sugar fast on something that doesn't seem worth it.

THINGS I LOVE / THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY

Welcome to my new addition to the challenge.  I'll call this my Life Goal/Side Quest.  I've been dwelling on negativity and anger for far too long, and to be honest...it's fucking exhausting.  However, today I actually woke up in a pretty good mood and so far my job/work hasn't destroyed it, so I'm going to take advantage of my lighter mood today.  Every few days, I want to post about things I love and/or things that make me happy.  I did this a few challenges ago and really enjoyed it, but the habit didn't stick because my default mood is generally just plain rage.

 

 

- When my cup of black coffee reaches the perfect temperature.  Not too hot, not too cold.  YAY!

- When I have something awesome to look forward to.  After work this afternoon, my boyfriend and I are heading out of town and have a room reserved at a natural hot springs resort, and I'm so excited for some quality soaking!

- When I come to work and all the teachers that called in sick have substitutes and I don't have to run around for an hour stressing about how to cover a billion classes.

I don't know how much longer I can keep up with the no-sugar streak.  I was at the store yesterday getting potatoes and saw the candy corn was on sale for $0.99 a bag.  I wanted it.  I grabbed a bag.  I put it back and walked away.  It was the hardest thing I've done in a long time.  I got home and put the groceries away and there was a full size Snickers bar in the cabinet that my boyfriend purchased when we were out of town.  I wanted it.  I touched it.  I put it back and walked away.

 

The longer I go without it, the more I want it.

Haha!  He ate it last night.  I had to laugh the other day because I was cleaning out the cupboards and found a completely empty wrapper from a candy bar WAY up in the far back of the cabinet.  When I asked him why the hell he didn't throw the wrapper away, he said, "Probably because I heard you come home and threw it up there so you wouldn't have to see the wrapper in the garbage and then forgot about it."

 

He tries, but he can be such a weirdo about it.  :lol:

I was thinking that the quick sugar fix I would get from eating the Snickers would do nothing except (1) make me feel guilty, (2) possibly send me into binge mode, and (3) force me to reset my no-sugar streak.  Even when I want to break the no-sugar streak and eat all the sugar, I don't REALLY want to.  

 

The mantra that I've always stuck by is this:  It's not ever going to be easy, but it will always be worth it.

 

I have to repeat that over and over until I remember that it's true.

I can't speak for paleo standards, but what's significant to glycemic index is sugar in its relation to fiber. The fiber controls the rate of uptake into the bloodstream, and dehydrated fruit is usually pretty good. No added sugar is the key.

Nice to see you too!  I looked at banana chips the other day as an option, but there was added sugar.  Damn sugar all to hell!!  :P

 

Just caught up with this thread. I've been away for Halloween weekend (also over-indulged in alcohol and pizza--it seems to be a thing on Halloween apparently?)

 

Your willpower level is over 9000! Way to put the things back after grabbing them :)

The pizza and beer that I indulged in was sooo good.  We visited a brewery that makes everything in house.  The beer was a coffee stout and was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!  The pizza is probably the best in the state of Montana.  So I only felt a little bit guilty.  :)

 

And thanks for the encouragement.  It's been really super hard going without sugar.
