Sounds like a smart decision. Gotta keep the knees happy so you can keep playing basketball!

 

Oh...I have one suggestion. Is it the outside of your knee that hurts when you squat? If so, just a tiny bit of pressure from your hand can relieve it. Or, if you want to be extra nerdy, you can tie a loop of surgical tubing or a resistance band around your legs just above the knee.

Thanks guys for the thoughts and advice. My knee doesn't really hurt, it just sort of creaks near the bottom of the squat, and then the next.couple of days the muscle/tendon behind my knee/calf sort of feels like.it 'pops out' while I walk. Wearing a tubigrip holds it in place.

So I don't really know what it is, and I'm not sure of it needs more exercise (to build the muscle) or less exercise (to rest the muscle/tendon/ligament ). I'm trying the latter for now.

I hate knee issues and I understand that tough choice between rest and more strength.  Have you tried some sort of assisted squats?   If you have access to a gym with a TRX system that can really help with squats as your arms can assist with some of the weight.  or doing squats with a pilates ball against a wall helps too.

Just did some accessory work today. Not in the plan but I'm going to count it as one of my 15 anyway.

 

Accessory work is the less glamorous but equally important twin to our other focuses.  Oftentimes it's the secret to our success!

Thanks Lady S. I unfortunately don't have gym membership yet, but I'm thinking from next week I'll try with the split squats and then start adding weight as a progression, for now. The creaking and the clicking seem to start when I go past parallel, so I'll see how that works.

Basketball ball again last night. The coach didn't seem all too organised for some reason But we had fun in the end.

Got punched in the face fighting for rebounds so I'll have to take my glasses in to specsavers today to get them straightened out. All part of the fun. ☺

Got punched in the face fighting for rebounds so I'll have to take my glasses in to specsavers today to get them straightened out. All part of the fun. ☺

 

My glasses sprouted wings and leapt off my face during rope climbs today.  Almost landed on them when I slid off the rope.

 

First World Glasses Problems.  The struggle is real.

I got a foam strap for £1.50 from Amazon, so they stay on my face most of the time .

The guy in specsavers did a reasonable job of straightening them out, but I think I'll get some goggles, apparently they only cost £30 including lenses.

Two more workouts to report.

I did deck of pain on Friday and Juarez Valley last night. Can't really say I pushed myself all that hard on Friday, but the 200 burpees went well although I did take slightly longer breaks between each section, and I might have lost count at one point. Took 23 minutes.

Good work mate, 3 weeks in and nicely on target.

Thanks. I set my sights low this time. I've started thinking about my next challenge and how to try and push myself just a little harder.

Hopefully by then I'll also have got a bit more used to fitting workouts around basketball training and have an idea of what is a sensible goal.

Slightly overdue update.

Basketball game on Wednesday. The other team turned up an hour late and only had 5 on the team and they still won. Full credit to them, but our guys were playing badly. I only got a few minutes on the court, but I was still responsible for two turnovers and two fouls to only one basket. The whole team needs more time playing together.

Thursday managed deck of pain again. Must admit didn't give it full intensity .

I tried a new pushup variation 'for power'. Normal stance but with a ball on the ground below your head. Go half down then try and push off the ground and land your hands on the ball. Did ok, I'll probably vary between this and declines.

Week 5 !

I'm on 9/15 workouts so it'll be a photo finish, and pull ups have not improved yet.

 

Keep hitting them as often as you can.  Hop on board that 20 Pull-ups Challenge program if you want to see some serious progress.  I've been grinding away at them for months!

 

They're a tough slog, but when they start to flow magically... man, that's a good feeling!  ;)
