Stonie
This is my 14th challenge here at Nerd Fitness. You would think I'd have it all together by now and not need to continue to plan my life around every 6 week period of the year. However I know damn well that the moment I stop gamifying my life by participating in these challenges will be the moment I drop everything and revert back to the fast-food loving, couch-surfing lump of flesh I was nearly two years ago. Quick recap for those of you who haven't seen me around - I am a 24 year old human of the female variety living on the southern coast of Western Australia (that's in Australia!) working in hospitality in a locally owned small cafe in the "city" of Albany.I got my start here on Nerd Fitness after a few months of doing yoga and realising I didn't hate moving around as much as I previously thought, and then trying to find something to make me better at push ups - I found the beginner bodyweight workout and followed that blog post through to Steve's blog, then binge-read my way through the whole site. I signed up to the forums immediately because Steve had done something no one else had ever managed - got me excited about exercising, and eating properly. I've since dabbled in yoga, running, bodyweights, free weights, cycling, roller skating, paleo eating, intermittent fasting, restricting grains, restricting dairy, and probably other things as well that have slipped my mind! Now that I'm here, I jump often between the Druids, Rangers and Assassins depending on my goals every challenge. Sometimes I go all introvert on you and stop commenting on everything, but it doesn't mean I'm not here! I quietly cheer for everyone to win at their lives all the time. My Nerd Cred comes from an addictive personality leading me to console gaming and internet gaming through most of my teenage years instead of socialising and learning adult skills (think FPS, open-worlders, role-playing, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.) And watching similarly-themed movies and TV the rest of the time. My most recent gaming obsession was Shadows of Mordor, and my most recent TV obsession was Falling Skies. I spend whatever spare time I have left doing things like crocheting, writing, cooking, sewing, and pretty much any craft that means I get to work with my hands. Overall I want to be able to call myself a successful adult - clean house, happy family (my partner, Mr. Tea, and small dog, Possum) with a fitness hobby that doesn't feel forced and other hobbies that I spend all my down time loving to do. I do have some sort of an Epic Quest which is just a brain-dump of all the things I've ever thought "oh, I'd like to do that one day!"I am currently stumbling my way through minimum skills training for Roller Derby, which despite being pidgeon-holed my entire life as the unfit & uncoordinated child of my family, am loving to death! Therefore any of my fitness and nutrition decisions are currently revolving around whether or not it will benefit my skating career. It is giving me something to hold onto for motivation when I have none left and need to decide on things like what to eat or whether to stay up all night playing The Sims. SO! Without Further Ado, Challenge Number 14 shall proceed as follows; Teagarden is Subtle, Like a Brick.or will be, once she learns how to hit people on wheels! Main GoalEnjoy Every Day of 2015 Current Goals:Become combat-ready for roller derbyBecome good enough to be an awesome jammer (get faster, hit stronger)Keep feeling healthy and happy like I have been the last 3 monthsPrepare for the next period of my adult life (purchasing a house!) Quest #1 - Do Physio-prescribed exercises daily (6 / 14)Getting stronger entirely will have to wait until I can rehab my knee to be completely trustworthy and so I can skate again. Quest #2 - Keep Breathing (2 / 6) Do 1 HIIT session every week. My lungs need to get used to hard and fast movement in short bursts, because that's mostly what ends up happening while I'm skating. I would do more then one session but as I'm already skating 5 hours a week for derby training I can't afford to burn myself out.Bonus points for cycling daily to rehab my bung knee. Quest #3 - Feed the Demon (9.5 / 42)Eat 140g 100g of protein daily.no point working out if I am just burning any muscle away instead of building it up onto my skeleton. I am not the biggest or the fastest skater so I need to work harder to make my presence known, and to do this I need to eat the right stuff! like, chicken, and steak. And protein shakes. Quest #4 - Farm the Gold ($625 / $1,500)Drop $250 into my savings weekly.I have a budget written out which takes into account the rent / mortgage payments I don't currently pay (because we rent from my mother-in-law and I pay all the bills while Mr. Tea pays the rent; it works out even in terms of paying our living expenses) but $250 is almost what I will be paying once we buy our house and start having to pay it off. If I can put $250 into my savings every week until April (when the tenant moves out of the house we intend to buy) I should have around $30,000 I can use as a deposit to make our overall home-loan smaller. I've also slacked on this a bit lately and this last week especially has seen me haemorrhaging money as all my objects reach their used-by dates.Bonus Quest - Save money to update itemsEDIT 19/11/2015: Donate extra money to worthy causes that you would otherwise waste on inanimate objects$50 donated so far. Ranger's Gonna Ranger: Star Wars Mini Challenge!Week 1, General Movement: Cycle 30kms (30 / 30) - complete!Week 2, Stealth and Tracking: Sneak around the bird watching walk, sneak up on birds (0 / 1) failed due to sicknessWeek 3, Rangerly Hobbies: Find a Geocache! (3 / 1) completeWeek 4, Rangerly Showcase: create food using leftovers, photographWeek 5,Week 6. 8 Quote Stonie They/Them Currently reading: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman Currently playing: Outer Worlds (Xbox) Current DnD character: A radio presenter who’s magical bardic weapon is a portable radio broadcaster’s kit Link to comment

Stonie
Thanks for the support everyone it should be a fun challenge! Banged my knee up pretty bad last Thursday during scrimmage, so I went to the physio today and I've damaged the cartilage (meniscus) in my knee. It will heal on it's own if I stop skating for a week, ish (boooooo) and keep it iced and rested. He has also given me some exercises to do at least once daily, so for the first week of the challenge instead of my planned exercise I will be doing those until he gives me the all clear. This will be holding a half squat, lunges, single-leg bridges, and these funny-looking clamshells (all the innuendos, bahahaha!) 3 Quote Stonie They/Them Currently reading: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman Currently playing: Outer Worlds (Xbox) Current DnD character: A radio presenter who’s magical bardic weapon is a portable radio broadcaster’s kit Link to comment

Stonie
That profile pic was taken on the first night I scrimmaged as a level 2 skater I look much more coordinated in a still shot then I do in the one video someone took (arms everywheeeeere!) Those workouts look great, Hiroro, thanks! I might try the injury-based one on the weekend sometime, and use the HIIT one for when I can get to that Nice to see you again Edigo! 2 Quote Stonie They/Them Currently reading: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman Currently playing: Outer Worlds (Xbox) Current DnD character: A radio presenter who’s magical bardic weapon is a portable radio broadcaster’s kit Link to comment
Stonie
I missed the mark on my protein intake yesterday, so i tried a bit harder today (i.e, I actually ate breakfast today) and got much much closer to my 140g mark (on about 130g now at 9:40pm) Made the mistake of eating a chocolate muffin (I didn't need it, but it was there and I needed to sit down xD) for brunch and hit a serious sugar crash at about 1:30pm. I should know betterrrrr! Remedied that with turkey breast and spinach salad for lunch and that made me feel better. 4 Quote Stonie They/Them Currently reading: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman Currently playing: Outer Worlds (Xbox) Current DnD character: A radio presenter who’s magical bardic weapon is a portable radio broadcaster’s kit Link to comment
Stonie
Forgot my physio exercises yesterday because I got distracted making my halloween costume for my derby league halloween party on saturday night. xD it's gonna be awesome, there will be photos. Stonie
Did my physio shit today. Holding a half squat makes me feel like I'm trying to take a dump. Between that and doing the clamshells I feel a bit ridiculous. xD Laughing at oneself counts as extra cardio, right? I also ran out of protein powder yesterday so protein intake is low as because I couldn't put it into my smoothie and I had a ham and cheese croissant for lunch instead of something good. tsk. xD Derby training was also canned thursday night because "indoor hockey is a competitive sport" and "indoor hockey is funded by the council"... Yeah. I know. xD But it will be on fridays from next week so once my knee is good this should actually work out better for me; I'll be able to do a weights session on wednesday and not have it effect my skating via bad DOMs. so yay!

Stonie
I don't know how people manage to do weekends of getting to bed after 12pm. This happened to me both nights this weekend and I am exhausted. I am tired, and short tempered, I have bad judgement, and spacial awareness, and god forbid I drive my car. xD Halloween was fun though, here's a photo of myself and Mr. Tea dressed as Cersei Lannister and John Snow for our derby halloween party at the pub. I'm the blonde, in case you weren't sure. Also, how adorable is Mr. Tea, for a man who absolutely hates photos?! xDI made my own breastplate out of cardboard and duct tape and gold paint, and also a medallion out of fimo clay which you can't see. I thought I'd be a good girl and eat dinner before we left, and then someone ordered pizza so I ate lots of pizza as well as having four small glasses of cider. I did however hit my protein intake perfectly over the weekend, even without protein powder, so that's something! 6 Quote Stonie They/Them Currently reading: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman Currently playing: Outer Worlds (Xbox) Current DnD character: A radio presenter who’s magical bardic weapon is a portable radio broadcaster’s kit Link to comment
Stonie
Wk1, D1 (monday) Woke up feeling tired and cranky and my knees hurt and I had no work clothes because mine were all in the wash. whoops. Thought I better get my crap together regardless.Physio exercises done for the day (before 7am, booyeah!)31g of protein for breakfast (double booyeah!) Pay day is also today so I should be able to put some savings into my account, depending on amount I get paid (gotta save some for food shopping at the end of the week. Here's to a frugal week this week, unlike the last few!) 5 Quote Stonie They/Them Currently reading: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman Currently playing: Outer Worlds (Xbox) Current DnD character: A radio presenter who’s magical bardic weapon is a portable radio broadcaster’s kit Link to comment
Stonie
Managed an excellent protein-y second breakfast of cheese, beans, and eggs on toast at 10:30 today before my body rioted and I spent the rest of the day feeling nauseous (thanks shark week!) Between that and my knee alternating between aching and being normal I didn't have the best work day, but I survived so that's something. I won't be going to training tonight but I've made a physio appointment for tomorrow so hopefully they can help me with a way of getting through work without destroying my knee, because there's no way I'll be able to get off work to let it heal quickly. Dropped $125 into my savings since I've been paid, so that's half of this week's total saved. Shouldn't have any large sums of money coming out of my account except for food shopping later this week so I should get the whole $250 saved this week. 5 Quote Stonie They/Them Currently reading: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet & Neil Gaiman Currently playing: Outer Worlds (Xbox) Current DnD character: A radio presenter who’s magical bardic weapon is a portable radio broadcaster’s kit Link to comment
