Hi, This will be my first challenge as an Assassin! I’m excited :D

I’ll be turning 40 at the end of November and am planning to have the greatest year yet.

Here’s what I’ll be working on this challenge:

Quest #1: Keep getting stronger and increase flexibility

A - BBWW 3 times a week (2 STR, 1 STA)

B - Yoga 2 times a week (2 DEX)

1 day per week BBWW can be replaced with another activity - cross-country skiing, biking, stacking firewood, dance, fitness mini-challenges, etc. (I want to encourage myself to get outside more and to do things with other people whenever I have the opportunity.)

Grading:

5/5 = 100%; 4/5 = 80%; 3/5 = 60%; 2/5 = 40%

Quest #2: Gain weight and eat healthy

A - Gain 1 pound per week (1 CON, 1 CHA)

I will continue to eat 3000 calories or more per day to increase my weight, including at least 100g of protein. I’m adding in a stress-free day each week where I just get to eat when I’m hungry and not worry about calories. If this adversely affects my weight gain, I’ll revisit.

Grading:

I will weigh/grade weekly to track progress, but final grading will be based on if I gained 6 pounds by the end of the challenge. 10% will be deducted from my grade for each week that I do not consume at least 100g protein 6/7 days.

B - Cook 3 meals a day and bake or prep freezer meals once a day (1 CON, 1 CHA)

I will cook and bake daily to keep my refined sugar intake lower, my protein up, and my diet healthier. *Eating a homemade freezer meal counts as cooking that meal since I’m still eating healthy homemade food and that’s the point of prepping them - to keep me on track when I have an off day.

Grading:

4 possible points per day - 3 meals plus either baking or freezer-meal prep.

4/4 for the day = 100%; 3/4 = 90%; 2/4 = 70%; 1/4 = 50% - because even if I’m just cooking one meal from scratch, that’s still pretty great, and way above packaged junk. (6 out of 7 days per week)

Quest #3: Improve and maintain good mental health

Do two things daily that are good for my mental health (1 CHA, 1 CON)

This can be anything that improves/maintains my mental health - art, time in nature, counseling, sharing/vulnerability with trustworthy people, pushing myself to do things that I would rather put off/are scary, etc.

Grading:

The day only counts if 2 things are completed.
7 days = 100%; 6/7 = 90%; 5/7 = 75%; 4/7 = 60%; 3/7 = 40%; 2/7 = 20%; 1/7 = 10%

Life Quest: Simplify and calm my surroundings

A - Get rid of 10 things every day (1 WIS)

Grading:

The day only counts if 2 things are completed.
7 days = 100%; 6/7 = 90%; 5/7 = 75%; 4/7 = 60%; 3/7 = 40%; 2/7 = 20%; 1/7 = 10%

B - Work on a house project each day, even if it’s only for a few minutes (1 WIS)

Grading:

Must work for a minimum of 15 minutes.
7 days = 100%; 6/7 = 90%; 5/7 = 75%; 4/7 = 60%; 3/7 = 40%; 2/7 = 20%; 1/7 = 10%
Missed days can be made up with bonus points for finishing a high-priority project - siding, stairs, countertops, trim, etc.

*Birthday celebrations are special days, no penalties.

*This leaves me 1 point to WIS for knowledge gained by completing this challenge and 1 point to assign where I think I really earned it over the 6 weeks.

It's sooo much faster and easier to clean if I don't have stuff everywhere! Very good incentive.

It's not so much the house (it's been mostly Konmaried) as other spaces I've collected and forgotten things. I stored a bunch of old things in our outbuilding and my husband really likes/needs to use it as his quiet space at the end of the day (and to watch tv since we don't have a tv in the house).

So, I really want to get my junk out of there and then fix it up a bit for him. I'm thinking of making him a folding divider screen for Solstice so his side can be visually screened from the gardening/storage side too. I have a lot of stuff in there that just needs to go!

If that gets done before the end of this challenge, I have a couple of boxes of who knows what left at my mom's from a decade ago, maybe longer. I'm sure I can get rid of a bunch of stuff from those!

I made myself a little book to track each day of this challenge in. It's about 4" tall and I love it. Hopefully it will keep me motivated to track everything.

Day One

Not quite how I planned it, but still a productive day. 100% on all quests today.

Q1: I didn’t get to my BBWW (a pine needle won a fight with my eyeball so I took a hot bath and called it a day), but I did do the mini-challenge so I’m subbing that in for my BBWW today.

Q2: 3 meals and I baked bread, protein well over 100g today, starting weight 131#

Q3: Art group this morning and then walking (and jumping) on the sandbar with my dog

Q4: Started clearing up the garden for winter and got rid of 10 things, plus trash, and an old shelf.

Hello!  Fellow art-nerd here.   I have a NF journal, nothing fancy, just a spiral notebook but I doodle on my pages.  Mostly I do weekly reports because I do tally marks when I complete a task but a few challenges ago I journaled daily because I had an art goal for my challenge so I needed more space to doodle/tape in pictures of my artwork.  It's kind of fun to have a separate journal to keep track of things in addition to posting on NF.

Anyway - here is an example of one of my pages, starting stats from the last challenge.  Have fun in your very cool journal!!

PS - you have LOADS of goals!  Have fun, I'll be lurking :)

Great day, but now I am wondering how a pine needle won a fight with your eye?!  We have cedar trees and pine needles are everywhere, and I'm allergic, so my nose is all stuffed up and my eyes itch like crazy.

@mom2sjm, I'm just getting started with art and really enjoy it. I love that page! I might have to make a bigger journal next time and try art journaling my challenge progress. I've been thinking about an art journal, but I'm not very confident in my art skills yet and drawing is definitely scary, which means probably good for me!

On the goal front, I seem to do better if I have more - I can't procrastinate too much or there won't be time in the day! Hopefully it doesn't backfire...lol.

@Elastigirl, boy it would be hard to be allergic to evergreen trees! I was cleaning up my yard and the wind was blowing and a tree branch blew at me suddenly right as I was turning around and stabbed me in the center of my eyeball. Thankfully it seems to be doing ok and I don't think any trips to the doctor will be called for.

Day 2: 100%

Q1 (fitness) - rest day

Q2 (food) - ate well, plenty of protein, cooked 3 meals and baked a cinnamon plum cake

Q3 (mental health) - took my dog to playgroup down at the river; made a needle-felted snowman

Q4 (adulting) - got rid of 10 things and took down some old fencing

Day 3:

I was pretty grumpy today, didn't sleep well last night, but I did pretty well on my goals.

I had to get some labs done that required fasting, so no breakfast. :(  My eye was hurting this morning so I figured I better get it looked at while I was in town. I had to wait and hour between my lab appointment and the eye doctor (starving!) so I went to the rebuild-it center and looked for materials for house projects where candy bars were free on the counter, but I resisted the junk! Bought a few old drawers, but it was way too cold to look for much else.

Apparently two pine needles stabbed my eye, but it is healing quickly and the doctor said just to keep it well lubricated for a few more days and it should be fine.

Poor dog sat in the car for four hours and just ended up back home, he's such a good boy.

Got home at lunchtime and ate a huge healthy lunch. Felt tired and super grumpy. Played a little soccer outside with my dog (mental health +1) and attempted the weekly art challenge from my online art group (mental health +1). Felt better enough to get chores done, bake some bread, and get rid of 10 things for the day. Had my yoga class tonight. Still grumpy, hoping tomorrow will be a less moody day! At least I'm grumpy at home and no one else has to suffer my moodiness. :)

Q1: yoga - 100%

Q2: 80g protein - 80%; 3/4 cooking - 90%

Q3: dog time and art - 100%

Q4: 10 things (books); materials shopping - 100%

And I photo of my baby!

Hi SnowOwl, as a fellow team member I just wanted to say hello and see how your challenge is going for you so far. Looks like you are well prepared and motivated so I don't doubt for a moment that your personal new year will start great.

Just take care of that eye, hope it will get well soon.

Nice job on the BBWW! Ooohhh freezer meals. Right before myw ife had our son, she stocked our freezer with a month or two worth of frozen meals. It was super handy being able to pull and throw it in the oven. Now you've got me excited to go look through cookbooks to see what I can freeze.

Hi SnowOwl...Thanks for stopping by on my thread to say "hi" :)

I did a complete de-cluttering when I moved from Florida to Oregon in 2008 (I only brought what I could fit into my car) and will admit that it is liberating.

I feel you on the grumpy days as that has been my last week since cutting the soda and sugar.

How was your first week on the challenge?

My first week wasn't as great as I'd hoped, but still pretty good considering the eye injury and then I've spent much of the weekend sick in bed with a fever.

Week One Summary:

Q1 (fitness) - 100% (but only because I modified my BBWW a lot yesterday)

Q2 (diet) - 90% I'm counting the fact that my husband cooked three meals and did some baking for me while I've been sick, so we are still eating well. My calories and protein have been down slightly the past three days, but I'm eating a good healthy diet.

Q3 (mental health) - 100% It's pretty easy to do relaxing, positive things when you can't do much of anything else! I've been doing art and cuddling my dog, and I even ventured out with my mom one day to buy some goodies at the "Fill your Pantry" event held by our area Farmer's Markets.

Q4 A - 100% on house projects. I subbed in some research online for actual labor this weekend and managed to be productive rather than getting lost in Pinterest!

B - 6 things behind on my reduction of possessions this week. I did really well until I got sick and decided that dusty cold outbuildings were probably not a good place to spend time. I caught up a bit today by searching for things inside the house, but I am still a bit behind. I'm hoping to feel better tomorrow or Tuesday and can catch up then.

Overall a good week, and now I have lots of motivation built up from being stuck in bed. I hope it sticks around and I can have a super productive second week!

Today was my weigh-in day - I didn't gain anything :( But I didn't lose anything being sick either :) So, I will be re-focusing on food this week.

Also, caught up on getting rid of things today! I am now 4 things ahead. :)
