Lateral Planet
I also suck at breakfast, but I've tried making big batches of healthy flapjacks and muffins on a sunday so I can grab them throughout the week. It's working pretty well for me so far. Well done on a great start to your challenge! Thanks That's a good idea! I've just been grabbing the store-bought ones, but if I bothered to make them myself I would have more control over sugar content etc. On the other hand, if I made my own pikelets everyone else in the family would want some too, so it might be safer not to! Lateral Planet
Congrats on your success so far! Keep up the great work. I too hate lunges. At first, I cut them out of my workouts completely until I got a bit stronger. I didn't want anything to deter me from continuing on this journey, so I figure if I get to anything that I just absolutely dread, I'm just not going to do it. I'll try it again in a week or two and see if it's any better. Although, I don't know if I'll ever apply that method to running. I really dislike running. =)I know the feeling. I have terrible balance so when I lunge I feel like I'm about to topple over! So I'm doing split squats for now and working my way up; that way those muscles are getting some idea of what I'm going to expect from them one day! I used to like running when I was a kid and it was just playing, but when they started making us run laps of the oval for PE it stopped being fun. I really like walking, but once I bought my car I stopped doing a lot of that too, and I got accustomed to getting places really quickly. I think one of Steve's articles was about efficiency in working out, which made me realise that as much as I love just walking, it takes me ages to get anywhere. So if I can work up a little speed maybe that will be satisfying. I'm a long way from enjoying running again and I may never get above a light jog, but if it gets me home a little quicker I'll be happy. Quote Link to comment

I used to make up tremendous batches of zucchini bran muffins when we had zucchini overload in the garden - you can totally freeze those suckas and nuke 'em whenever. If you cut out like 1/2 the sugar from any muffin recipe I think it improves the taste as well as the healthiness. Artemis
I used to like running when I was a kid and it was just playing, but when they started making us run laps of the oval for PE it stopped being fun. I refer to this as the "human hamster" exercise. No offence meant to those who enjoy this, personally I was bored out of my mind during those types of activities. I was always better at the games (frisbee golf, flag football, etc) that provided more involvement. Sounds like its the same for you. If you're looking to try walking more, I have found that it's more enjoyable with a podcast or audiobook. This provides a bit more involvement than music and if I get really wrapped up in a story, I can just keep walking. Lateral Planet
Another successful day! I totally smashed my steps goal without even trying; I did 10.5km just by walking to and from work and with all the toing and froing I did while I was there. So my actual workout was pretty quick because I am SO ready for bed right now. On the other hand, I did also manage to do a single 60-second plank so I don't feel too bad about cutting the workout short in favour of some immediate comfort. Gotta get ready to do it all over again tomorrow! 1 Quote Link to comment

I haven't thought of this in ages, but at primary school in PE we'd play this game called Octopus, which I loved. Every school had their own name for it, but it was basically just an organised chasing game within the boundaries of a basketball court. And then one day they decided we were too old for that and had us just running lengths of the court instead. Sooo boring. Running just requires speed, but games require skill; I know which I prefer! I love listening to BBC radio stuff on a walk, although I get some weird looks for laughing so much at what I'm listening to. I seem to match my pace with music without realising it so I know if I want to challenge myself a bit I should put on some tunes instead. Depends what I'm in the mood for Quote Link to comment
Lateral Planet
After two weeks of 100% success I finally had a letdown; I didn't manage all of my steps on Sunday. I kind of expected that. The machine gives me a target based on the previous day's achievement, so after a whole week of doing 14,000-odd steps a day just by virtue of being busy at work, you can imagine the target was getting pretty steep. But I didn't have a chance to go for a proper walk yesterday and all my A to B walks only took me two-thirds of the way.Even though I can no longer boast a perfect score, I'm glad that it's not because I couldn't be bothered, or it was too hard, or I've given up entirely. I was just short of time that day. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lateral Planet
Aaand I'm back. The last two weeks have been completely bonkers (and this one will be too) and I just haven't had a chance to stop and think about NerdFitness stuff! I've been OK about achieving my goals but hopeless at tracking them so I've had to catch up on things a bit. So far I'm at 100% for breakfasts every day, but I've flaked a bit on the walking and workouts. I'm trying to get back on track and be focused this week, but since I know it's gonna be a crazy one I don't know how well that'll go. But after this I'll have about two months off, so there'll be no excuses! Still gotta get the hang of fitting the fitness stuff into my usual lifestyle. Quote Link to comment
cotterpin
Welcome back! It's awesome that you are sticking with the breakfasts 100% despite being too busy to track stuff. Yay for new habits! Stay sane this week and good luck with fitting the workouts in. I had to make myself start doing workouts in the middle of the day instead of after work, because it was just too easy to stay and work so late that I would want to skip it.
