Starpuck needs to become her own epic mix of 40-40-20!

 

40% MENTAL - The largest factor of my success (or failure) is mental.  I need to control my own rationalizations and use them for good and not for evil!

 

40% PHYSICAL - A plan without execution accomplishes nothing.  The physical side of the challenge will consist of proper eating and maintaining an active, fit lifestyle.

 

20% FLEXIBLE - The ability to handle bumps along the way without giving up on the destination.   (Even if that means taking a detour, that still, eventually, gets me to point B.)

 

 

 

 

MENTAL GOALS

 

1) 15 MINUTES ME TIME!

Set aside 15 minutes per day for quiet "me-time".   I can /do/ things during this time (preferably something calm like sketching, reading, writing, praying) but it must be done as an intentional stepping away from whatever to-do list, errand or project I might otherwise be distracted with.

 

2) OBSESS LESS!

I am taking a 6 week break from tracking my food and exercise.   I know that my at work meals are spot on.  And my home-cooked dinners are appropriately portioned healthful meals.  My hurdle is, and has always been, social game nights and weekends.  As for exercise, that's part of what needs to be flexible for me right now, so I do what I can, when I can.

 

 

 

PHYSICAL GOALS

 

1) Move from Point A to Point B 7x/week.

Walking is good stuff.    It can be done on just about any occasion, mood, energy level or schedule.    If I can get outside to do it, even better - especially as winter hits and S.A.D. starts to settle into my bones.   If I want to run to get from one place to another?  Go for it.   The point is.  Move.  With my legs.   Make Lady Legasus proud.  (Hah, funny.   I had this set as 70,000 steps/week, then realized I had to change it because I am *NOT* number obsessing... geez.  Tracking obsession Starpuck? Ya think?)

 

2) Shoulder rehab, into strength training as permitted, 3x/week.
I am still in the midst of my Physical Therapy for my cranky shoulder.    The cortisone shot did seem to take a large amount of pain out of the equation, but certain motions and stretches still cause issues so Moe is working with me.    I've not been able to do pushes for months, and she told me to quit my pull ups too until she fixes me.     I meet with her 3x/week - so until I am 'cleared' for more than that, PT will be my weekly goal.   This means that this goal ties into the being flexible side of things too.

 

3) 2 Frak It Meals / Week max.
I am not now, or ever, going to be 100% perfect.   So, let's just plan that I am allowed to say frak it twice a week.   This will work great if I consider it as such; one game night I can cut free a bit, and one weekend hurrah out.   Since I am not counting anything this challenge, I will use this as my means of getting the extra fun tiem foods under control.

 

 

 

 

FLEXIBILITY GOALS

 

When I have the time or desire... do the following:

Work on drawing things.

Work on writing stuff.

Work on next year's vacation plans.

Get more involved in church stuff / find a group.

Play some video games (or Pretty Pretty Pegasus)

Catch up on anime and tv shows.

Chill out and cut myself some slack.

 

 

 

So, that's the plan.  It's kind of vague, and hardly has any proper goals - but, there it is.   I should also probably try to keep up more in NF proper.  I always do better when I am actively part of the community. >.>  Funny how that works.

Like "write on my thread at least x times per week just saying what I did" but without any actual goals pertaining to what it is I need to do nor the frequency of said things. I want to reintegrate myself into the community, but I'm struggling with that as everything feels so topsy-turvy IRL so I can't seem to get any consistency down.

^ This so much!   I have missed the community, and looking back over the past two years being a part of NF, my best streaks of progress are in exact sync with the times that I was most consistent here on NF.  Plus.  Omg, the people are so great.  And the gifs.  But mostly the people!    Topsy Turvy RL's suck too.   I am so badly craving some normal routine.  Even mundanity!

• I paid all my bills so I am at a dead even on things of that nature.  
• I've made my much needed doctor appointments which will take place in the first two weeks of challenge.
• I reorganized my backpack, lol.  (Yus this is a thing that needs doing!)
• And after Saturday's party, I have no extra commitments needed doing.

These things I still need to sort out are weighing heavy on me.

• Continue research on cars so I can do some heavy car shopping this Sat. **
• Possibly buy a car.
• Set time aside to have a talk with someone that is long overdue and will be Not Fun<tm>.

Also a possible thing - buy new shoes for all that walking I'll be doing!

Eep, car buying. That might be a consideration in my future. I'm still living on the high of MY CAR IS MINE that I've been on for about a year and a half now, but I'm still driving the car I drove in college, and while it's a great car still I keep eyeing hybrids and what not. The car dilemma is especially frustrating because I like SUV's.

 

In Starpuck brain, this is a SUV:

 

This... IS NOT!

 

They've gone and turned all of the mid-size SUVs into small cross overs.   (At no cost savings either.)    I'm sporty, and have always considered myself more country/rugged than city girl.   So trucks (grew up in a Suburban) and sporty SUV types are my jam.  I want a 6-cylinder because I do a ton of highway driving and while I don't need to go from 0-60 in 1.2 seconds, I DO need to get from 40-75mph in 2.2 seconds for merging.   And, I was hoping to keep the price tag under $30k.    These things --- are not possible these days it seems.  (My 2011 Ford Escape [before they turned it into the abomination above in styling] was 27k fully loaded when I got it.  So I'm just, just so grrr over this shopping hassle.)

 

I've test-driven the Colorado pick up.  I love the way it looks, I think it would be fun as hell, it suits my personality... but, I need to really think about if I will be happy with a truck bed, instead of 'internal cargo area' like a SUV has.

 

So much car stress.

 

Oh, and the reason I am looking?   I LOVE my car right now.   It looks awesome, it's very me.  Great mileage.  Good shape cosmetically, but.

1. Needs tires.
2. Need brakes.
3. The ignition alarm continues to beep even with no keys in it. (I can poke it with my finger to turn it off)
4. The foam padding between windshield and dash is starting to creep up the windshield.
5. There is a god awful clunking that the mechanic can't find the source of.
6. I just replaced the battery (died at 64,000)
7. And replaced the front sway bar links.
8. And I had to self fix my fan blower 3 months ago because it would only blow at levels 3-4.

Basically, the lesson here?  No matter how much you love Firefly, do not EVER name your car Mal.     It means bad, in the Latin.

I bought a new car once. It was terrifying. Now that my job provides a vehicle for me, I don't drive my own a lot. I'm keeping it forever. 

 

Sorry you have the Not Fun talk. My experience with those is it's better to get it over with. Dreading it hardly ever makes it better. Hope it goes as smooth as it possibly can.

Hahah yeah!  That's always a bit of a curse.

 

And ouch.  Yup a lot of problems you're having with your current car.

 

I'm gonna sound horrible when I say this, but since I'm not rugged nor a very country girl (city slicker, nerdy, geeky and according to the hubs, somewhat hipster girl I am), so I do like the smaller crossover type cars.  I'm learnings towards Subaru Outback or Forester, and Lexus is coming out with a small crossover too.  I will agree on wanting a V6 engine (current car, Pearl, has one and it's lovely), and I want AWD or 4 Wheel drive because mountains and snow and skiing.  Smaller crossover type cause I don't want a big car, but I still want a heavy one with that sits slightly higher so go over snow banks (unlike my low sedan). I'm also gonna be picky about turning radius (my car, while a pure commuter car, has a great, tight turning radius).

 

Cars are becoming more...'curvy' nowadays huh?  Even if they made it a bit smaller, I do like some sharper angles too.  Ah, trends...

Which I love everything about design-wise and what not. It's a good car, I just don't take care of it like I ought to. For practical reasons, I LOVE having a small car, because when parking is a bitch I get to park in spaces bigger cars have no choice but to bypass. I see the reasons for wanting a bigger car, especially if you're the outdoorsy type, but I get to feel kind of like a car-ninja in my tiny car.

 

But I do want a hybrid, which is me becoming less girly, and my parents are thinking about getting rid of their Honda Accord and I'm thinking about buying it from them if they do. Buuuuuuut I also feel like I ought to be a proper adult and do it through a dealership etc but ugggggh I enjoy owning my car instead of making car payments every month.

I don't LIKE having car payments, but I have always included them in my "budget" because it just seemed smart to do so.  Like, ok, I have this much per month as my car payment.   BOOM.    Now if I don't have one?  BONUS SAVINGS!   If I do have one... well it isn't a sudden panic attack of figuring out where to come up with the money.  It's always been there.

 

If I had any faith in Mal that these were just minor fixes, and once fixed he'd be solid for another year or two, I'd have no problem putting money into repairs instead of a new loan.  I just ... I ... I'm sorry Mal, you've lost my trust.

If it wasn't for the ignition and the mystery clunk I would say Mal probably would be good for another year. Once you get into electrical problems it's time to cut your losses and bail. The mystery clunk could be anything from no big deal to you're about to leave your transmission on the freeway.

We had a Toyota RAV 4 and a Jeep Wrangler. Both were great vehicles. Not sure what the RAVs look like these days. I know the Toyota trucks are looking more like Chevies. But who can afford a Tundra? My boss traded in an all the bells and whistles Ford F 150 for a bare bones Toy.

Starpuck and the Unchallenge, I like it! 'Tis good to take a break every now and then.

 

All your car talk is reminding me that I have a mystery sound that I keep turning my radio up louder to ignore (I think maybe suspension? I do need new suspension even if that's not what's making the noise). I can't afford a new car, but mine is 16 years old, and isn't going to last forever... I covet a blue Ford Ranger 4x4 or a blue Subaru Impreza hatchback. I can maybe afford the latter if it's 2008 or so (but maybe not the insurance), sadly I can't afford the former unless it's almost as old as my current car.

Oof.  Way to front load all the stress into the weekend before the challenge Starpuck!  That was clever thinking - now you can't use that as your excuse for stress eating.  LOL.  Wut wut you say?  Ooooh nothing.

 

Just that Starpuck, of the Super Stress Monkey DNA species, who hates changes, hates big decisions and is super worried whenever she has to spend money, just bought a brand new freaking car!         All in all it was more than I wanted to spend, but I got the payments to the same amount as I had been paying (on a smaller, less expensive car) up until I added a bunch of protection to the car.   After having a 5 year old car get all wonky on me, I wanted to have a car I could have peace of mind with for the long haul. 

 

Soooo, I got a Kia Sorento, and upgraded their already phenomenal warranty options to a full bumper to bumper warranty for 10 years / 100,000 miles.   So basically, I'll pay the car off in 5 years, and still then have 5 years of NO payment, where I can drive the car with no risk of additional costs to talk me out of keeping it.

 

I didn't get all the bells and whistles, because, oof.   I don't NEED all that stuff.  (The panoramic sunroof would have been sweet, but not $6000 more dollars sweet.)  So I've got the bells I needed, with a price range I could handle.  This isn't the exact car, but darn close.

 

 

So.   Now I've got a new car to start my new challenge with!   WOO!

*ok, it will be woo once I stop freaking out over making the decision.

One thing I like about decisions is, once they're made and acted on, that's it! no more worrying about the decision. And from what I've read/heard about Kias, you picked a good one. Have fun with it!!!

It is black.   I know lots of people are like Eeeeiiii black!!?  But, the other colors weren't very impressive looks wise, and while the red was cool - my personality would have tired of it for being too 'out of my norm' after a while.   The bronze silver initially looked cool- until I stepped further back and then I was worried about how it looked kinda 'sea-sick' green tinged.   So, yup.   Black.  Which.  Gotta say, looks sexy as hell.   I'll have to deal with the dings, dinks, and swirls over time.
