Hey - is that Laureleye!?!

This place looks familiar…wait…I’ve stumbled back into Rebellion Headquarters!

Yes, I’ve been gone for a year now, but I’m back to try a challenge again.

Goals (Cliff notes):
1.        Enter everything I eat into MFP 5+ days a week.  Bonus for a full week.
2.       Get to the gym (be active)!  Weeks 1 & 2; 3 days/week.  Weeks 3 – 6; 4+ days/week.  I can substitute a day of walking for the gym.
3.       Drink min 40 oz. water on non-working days.  Easy as pie at work, but when I’m home I have problems.
4.       Life goal:  Get out and do things!  I want at least 4 adventures for the challenge

Goals and stuff (the War and Peace version):
My husband of 37 years passed away in May of 2014.  I kept up with a couple of challenges after that, but I realized my too-big house and yard were eating up my time.  Once I decided to sell, and dove into getting ready, I just couldn’t keep up and didn’t join any more challenges.  Well, I cleaned everything up, got rid of mountains of stuff, and sold my house.  My plan had been to rent, but once I started digging into the rental market it wasn’t looking good.  My realtor found me the ideal place in Pasadena, CA (no, I can’t walk to the Rose Bowl).  The property has two houses; a large and a small house.  The small one was empty and the large one free; the plan was to live in the large one & get it prepped for rental, then move into the smaller.  Meanwhile, life threw me a curve ball or two as well as an opportunity.  I was diagnosed with asthma & I was asked to fill a 1-year temporary assignment in DC.  So I’ve now been in DC 3 weeks.  I’m in a nice furnished “corporate†apartment not far from the Verizon center.  I brought my cat, and a minimum of other things.  I’m still sort of getting myself put together, but I’m going to start this challenge.
1.       I don’t have a food scale (or a me scale for that matter), so I’ll do my best to estimate serving size without weighing things.  The point is to be aware of what I’m eating.
2.       The gym is in the apartment building and has the usual cardio equipment and some weight equipment by Matrix.  Before I can do any body-weight training, I’ll need to get a mat.  The main point is habit building.
3.       It doesn’t matter where I am, I don’t get my water down on weekends (too much tea!)
4.       I’m in a new city on a new coast.  If I can’t find things to do, I should be ashamed of myself.

Welcome back! I missed you and wondered how you were doing.

Glad to hear that you got the house sold and things squared away in CA. The new position in DC ought to give you the opportunity for some interesting adventures!

The last year has been absolutely crazy.  I probably got rid of 1/2 (2/3?) of the stuff I own.  The goal was to go from an overstuff 1600 sqft house/2 car garage to 800 sqft/1 car garage.  I don't think I quite made it, but it was difficult physically and emotionally.  Then the holidays came and it took all my energy to get through them.  Horrible asthma attack, only we didn't know what it was.  I had to do NOTHING for a month (ack!) Finally the house on the market & open houses & all of that.  Moving out and "sort of" moving into my new property in Pasadena.  A friend is managing the property for me while I'm away.

Getting my kitty to DC was an adventure, but she really travelled like a champ.  She's pretty much okay with the apartment, but not happy with the balcony.  She was never a super-outdoorsy type, but she did like to go out and roll in the dirt and stuff.  I've grown a little pot of cat grass to put out there and she likes it a lot more.

I got to the gym twice last week, and twice (so far) this week.  The doc said I had to start slow, so it's just been a couple of miles on the treadmill.  But I'm getting a good bit of walking in just going to the store and all, since I didn't bring my car.

Basically, this is just a get-back-on-an-even-keel challenge.

Hey Laureleye!  You have done so much in the last year and I'm looking forward to seeing how much you can do in this challenge.  Getting the habits of good healthy back in place can be so hard yet so rewarding.  So I'm gonna follow and stalk ya (in a good way!)

I'm off to a good start. Hit the gym first thing for 2 miles on the treadmill. Tracked my food. As usual on a work day I got plenty of H2O. Sunday was interesting. I hit the Asian museums for a new exhibit. Then I headed up to the Lincoln Memorial by way of the Washington Monument and WWII memorial. I looped back for the Korean War Memorial and headed home on the metro. 21000 steps and I was feeling good ... until I unpacked my backpack and discovered my wallet missing. Fortunately Park Police found it intact and I will pick it up tomorrow.

Day 2: I got my wallet back, which is a relief. I had a good day too. No gym, but with a walk at lunch a a grocery trip, I got over 10 k steps. I finished up yesterday with over 13k. Food all tracked and plenty of water. I did chick and pork chops baked in foil to last out the week. AND I wrote a letter to send out to everyone with my new address. Got the envelopes addressed but out of time to stuff them.

Day 3. Got my trip to the gym in, but it was hard. I had SO much trouble getting up. I've been here a month, but it feels like my sleep pattern is still unsettled. Ive started using my FitBit for sleep tracking; maybe it will give me some good info. Tonight, I baked some acorn squash and yams, so I'm pretty set for meals for the week. I got my letters stuffed, stamped and sealed. I'll head to the mail room before bed and get them out. I should finish with about 14k steps today. I'll visit at least one thread, but I haven't tracked yet.

Thursday, day 4-

Today was a no gym day. I tracked my food already. I was in meeting after meeting today, so I did get my usual steps. I walked the long way home, but won't quite make 9k steps today.

I had pork chop, squash, and sautéed spinich for dinner. The squash was wonderful. I halved and baked it at 400 till the skin started to burn and it sort of caramelized.

Friday/Day 5.  Okay, on paper, the day will look good - but I don't feel good about it.  Despite a headache I got up, and got my 3rd gym session in.  The headache receded but lingered all day.  All week there have been events for CFC (United Way); pizza party, pancake breakfast, bake sale...and I've bypassed them.  And then today I ate so much junk.  Okay, I tracked it, and it wasn't THAT MUCH, but I feel just BLEAH after eating all of it.  Still have a headache, so I won't do much.  I've been meaning to fix my siggy, so I'll do that and call it a night.

Something about exercising your willpower so much in a row, just seems to deplete it and you have nothing left for the next skirmish.. I'm familiar.

I'm wishing you a weekend full of good food and fun plans!

Yes, I think I just ran out.

Saturday/day 6.
I feel very good about today. I started out the morning with a walk to Starbucks, which is about a mile round trip. Sat down with miss kitty and enjoyed my coffe, then off to Walmart with my new little cart guy. I got some nice looking pork chops and chicken breasts, which I've already prepped for cooking tomorrow. I marinate and freeze 1/2 for later. Got about 48 Oz of water in, so I hit my target. I had lunch from the little bistro next door, but was disappointed. Butternut squash frittata wasn't that good; goat cheese completely swamped the other flavors.
Nice to have a good day to get back on track.
