Lucky fire dragon gets a grip on

After a luscious break time during last challenge, I am ready to pull my "innerer Schweinehund" out of the comfy mud again and get back into action.

A shocking realization of not being able to do a full pull up anymore has brought on extra motivation to build up strength again with the ultimate goal of

Leveling up my dance again

literally. It's time to move on to the Level 2+ courses at class and I won't be able to unless I gain more strrrrrrrrrength

So, here we go:

1. Get a grip

This too is literally. I slip too often from sweating hands, especially when I am upside down and that is just no good.

- figure out how to improve grip: which aids work best, room temperature, washing hands in between?, gloves?...

- improve grip strength by training, training, training (see goal 2) and working with tennis balls and hair bands 5x/week for 5 min each hand

2. Get strrrrrrrong

Stick to a daily "homework" of

- 10 push ups

- 5 lay back sit ups each side on pole

or 20 rolls with ab roller or 30 regular sit ups

- 5 chin ups

Do a full pole workout 3x/week

no excuses!! If I could run 3x / week, I can train, too

Here is my inspiration for workouts this time round:

She makes it look super pretty and I must warn you it does not look anything like this with me (yet) but hey it gives me a goal, right :)

Can't do it all yet, will "only" do the following parts:

- continuous climbs

- pole hold leg lifts -- 3/side

- pole ups (or at least attempt them) -- starting with 1 or 2/side

- superman push ups -- 5/side

- caterpillar push ups -- 5/side

- tucks and lift from floor -- 10 reps

- aerial squats -- 3/side

- lay back sit ups -- 5/side

and if I have any strength left I can add a couple of swing mounts with slow negatives

I actually tried the whole thing out today just to make sure it's doable and am so proud that a large part of it is, woot woot

Video of my attempts today to have a starting point for progress celebration:

3. Stay in the Flow

Balance with active recovery, happy shiny points and goooood restoration - no need to burn out ;)

This will be my hunt for shiny treasure points and I will actually buy some pretty stickers of stars and smileys to stick on my calendar on all the days I did well

because

stickers are shiny and success needs to be proudly celebrated  :star:  :star:  :star:

Doing my main pole workouts will give a big star or smiley each, on all the other days, stars can be earned with

- 15 min or more of yoga

- some of Marlo Fisken's beautiful flow exercises

- eating the whole day healthy and nutritous (no need to list cheats, I'll be honest)

- drinking 2,5 liters of water or more (herbal tea counts too)

- getting 8 hours of sleep in

- spending 20 min or more outdoors

- meditating for 10 min or more

Each of these areas can get a star so a perfect day would have 3 stars and at the end I will see with one look what went especially well and which parts I might want to prioritize better - you see I am planning ahead while going, hehe, I must be growing up

I will let myself off the hook completely for 1 day / week, so with a max of 3 stars / day that makes it 108 stars to go for over the whole challenge. Treasure hunt go  :onthego:

I am also hoping for some nice visible effect from all these badass workouts, so this time I will actually take measurements again and do before and after pics

To be included here on Monday

What else? Oh yes, important note to self, if I slip into some silly mindframes:

DISCLAIMER

None of these exercises will be done to prove anything about me. I know that I already am special and beautiful, just the way I am (*in case nobody told you yet today: you are too!!*)

I am not doing these to become special - I am that -  I am doing these because I want MOAR FUN ON THE POLE and enjoy the feeling it gives me, the vitality of my heart beating fast, the thrill of exciting moves and spins, the delicious sense of a worked out body that just gave it all, the clarity that comes after you sweated everything out, the satisfaction of cuddling into bed and falling into rejuvenating sleep after an active day,... all of these and more will be my bountiful reward

You mean you slip on the pole? I've done one lesson poledancing, because my friend takes classes and invites me along. By the way, it's amazing! If I have money and time when I come back from Paris I would love to do more poledancing! But I definitely noticed that my hands slipped, basically all the time. What they did was clean the pole I'm sure you already know about that though... Anyway I really wouldn't know what you find out works the best, but when you do find out I'll try and remember for if I ever do it again! And if you didn't mean for poledancing I will just feel stupid in this corner haha :P

Yes, I do mean on the pole, you are perfectly right and I am very happy to have you in this corner :)

It is totally amazing, do look into it when you are back!!

Hahaha you should see the pole I work on in class, it is shining bright from all the cleaning, I'm a towel addict and do have it totally dry. I also found that Dry Hands Antiperspirant Aid does help me, but the odd thing is how our bodies can circumvent almost anything... I start with totally dry hands, do have the choreo, get to the higher up parts, really need my hands to hold me during a pencil say or something similar and woooosh, they are slick with sweat. I have to interrupt, dry hands, dry pole, get up again and catch up to the others to finish my choreo. After I'm done, hands are totally dry again   So the Dry Hands stuff does work, just not in some crucial moments in between.

I'm hoping that I can help it with more strength and also better nerves through simple, repetitive practice of especially upside down moves. Let's see what I'll discover along this challenge.

Paris, hey, that is so cool and I love how you used it to bridge your awesome stories with your reality. Way to go, hero!

The slipping is such a pain. Especially now when it's getting cold and the air is dry I get no grip whatsoever... I've been pondering getting a heater and a humidifier and basically turn the play room into a sauna. ;)

And yeah we can definitely team up for some pole action! Do you have anything in mind?

I found out a totally odd phenomenon: I had MORE grip last week when the heating at class failed and the room was cold than in the week before with poles and hands warm   :topsy_turvy:

Maybe it works better for me cooler? One of the other students swears by washing pole and hands off with cold water before training (then drying it of course) and now I am thinking it might be the cool that actually helps her keep drier... some people go easier with some sweat, but maybe I am not one of them??

YAY, let's team up  :love_heart:  :love_heart:  :love_heart:  I have nothing in mind yet, no, but we will come up with something surely and even just knowing you working out on it regularly too would boost me tremendously. We could maybe pick a move, we both want to work on or something different even and just push each other by boasting on workouts done and/or progress on it? Or we could check up on each other to stick to our workout times?? Or we could have us post one new pole training pic onto each others thread once a week? Or whatever blows our hair back, wheeeeeeeee

Oh grip. That's a battle I fight myself, albeit for different reasons, but yeah, it's the beast that we often forget about no matter the sport that needs it until it fails us. ;;;

Best of luck in the challenge!!

From the way you're describing it now it's a stress/anxiety sweat that comes out right at the crucial moments? Not that I mean you have a full blown anxiety attack, but maybe your hands just respond to the slight nervousness for a second when you do something challenging! Which makes it extra challenging, so it's like you are betrayed by your own hands *shrugs* but in that case doing the moves many times would help!

Now I know where the term "keep cool" comes from :P

Hi!  Will read later.  Totally subbed.  :D

Haiii :)

It is so much to find and read in week zero, isn't it?!

That's exactly what I think it is. Really hope for training to help. Will hold on tight to that hope, haha

Hi!!!

I would sub no matter what, but I really am interested in your grip work. I have a finger that doesn't bend and it makes my grip super weak. I have some goals for myself that will require better grip strength so I'm watching :)

HAIIII right back at you  :love_heart:

Always subbing in here!! You have great goals and laser focus on this and I love it. But, what I love more is your Disclaimer!!! OMG Lucky, if you could bottle that thinking and give that to others, you could change the world!!
