Koaladle
Write now, and edit in December. Don't read what you've written, because it'll just slow down your word count and make you feel like you're not accomplishing as much as you really are. What if you changed the NaNo goal from word count to satisfaction of the end product? Does that break the rules or something? Quote Koaladle Current Challenge Daily Battle Log Link to comment
Laurenji
Yeah, I think I should start treating NaNo as "write every day" and "try to get a complete story by the end" and less about the word count. In good news though, I woke to this morning without feeling achy, itchy, and exhausted, so I think allergy season may finally be over! Calanthia Cobbin
Yeah I have not been doing so hot at NaNo completion... I get too tied up in whether or not it sounds good and it slows me down. I'll keep working on it. On a more positive note, I did my measurements today and I'm already down 2 pounds despite my affinity for Halloween candy! I think it's because my meals have been decreasing in size with me working more and snacking less Hopefully I can pass up my goal by the end of this challenge! Laurenji
Hey everyone! Today was a much better day for me. I caught up with my workout, and I wrote a little bit on my Nano story. So, progress. Also, I got to go to a Google Analytics training class today instead of going to the office, so that was nice. 1 Quote "Then laugh, leaning back in my arms; For life's not a paragraph, And death, I think, is no parenthesis." ~ E.E. ixaera
Yay, progress! I only got about 1200 words done, all in about an hour which was all the time I really had for it.Challenge wise a good day, though Quote Link to comment
breebles
Hey guys! So yesterday was actually horrible for me. My doctor's office screwed up calling in one of my prescriptions which is a psychiatric medication so I didn't have it yesterday. Withdrawal is brutal and instaneous (I usually take it at about 6 am, and by 10 am, it had already started). So. Yes. By the time I got home yesterday, nothing got done. This week will be a "B" for workouts for sure. I'm debating restructuring my quests. I'm not sure 5 30 minute workouts are really plausible. I can still squeak in the meals and the shakes even though I missed last nights. Wait. No... I think I missed two shakes. Grr. As far as gym anxiety - you guys are right. The best way to ignore it is to just...focus on me. The best thing with Nano is to just write. Some days you'll only get 300 and some days you'll get 3000. It balances out. rainra
I am SO LATE TO THIS PARTY like how does updates regularly and talk on forums. But it is not going to stop me from my days-late "DID SOMEONE SAY SUPERHERO WORKOUT" entrance. Because, DID SOMEONE SAY SUPERHERO WORKOUT?!?http://avidbageleater.tumblr.com/post/117113460508/oraclewarrior-okay-but-thisI'LL JUST LEAVE THIS HERE THEN. I definitely feel that gym anxiety. I have yet to even use the gym, but I get up at 5:30 not just to be sure that I make time for working out but because the sun is literally not up yet and neither is anyone else. Usually. The few people out at that hour are also sluggishly jogging around a track or aren't awake enough notice the ninja trying to do silent jumping jacks in the shadows of her house at ungodly hours of the morning. Today was a tiny struggle where the sun was already up before I started my workout and I tried to be sneaky and do my 30 seconds of jumping jacks before anyone could see me. It all felt very silly. rainra
I like to think of those workouts as goals. Where I am now I might be able to struggle through one set and then beat myself up over how hard it was. As I level up more I hope to be able to go at one of them and make it through a set without announcing that I am a slug and refusing to move unless I need food, but 10 sets of those exercises seems ridiculous and excessive. If I ever decide to follow one of them, I'd break it up into an A/B or even A/B/C workout to tackle sections of it on different days and kick it back a few notches and just do 2-3 sets. That sounds a lot more reasonable. 1 Quote February Challenge Fighter of Stick 'Em With The Pointy End Level 2 AssassinRace: ElfClass: Apex Warrior[sTR: 1 | DEX: 3 | STA: 3 | CON: 4 | WIS: 2 | CHA: 1 ] Link to comment

Calanthia Cobbin
Don't worry you are DEFINITELY not alone in the failing department. I think I've only passed my calorie challenge one day out of the week we have been doing this and the others are always iffy. I just take it as a work in progress and if I get a D on some goals, then next time I'll get a C or higher. On that note, I'm going to post this here before I feel guilty about the way the next two days are going to go. I woke up yesterday with what feels like a cold or REALLY bad allergies. Like spitting up nasty stuff from my lungs and not being able to breathe unless I'm sitting a certain way type of cold. My husband is also away at drill this weekend so I don't have anyone cooking for me and I don't have the energy to get up off the couch for more than a few minutes. Therefore I am giving myself a guilt-free pass for today and tomorrow to not make my walking or calorie goals since I am not doing a lot of walking and my food options are limited to things I don't need to cook much. I am still going to be drinking my 2 liters of water since that should help me anyway and since I have nothing better to do I will also have no problem with my reading goal. If anyone has ideas for how to get better faster so I can get back on track they will be greatly appreciated Have a lovely day all! 1 Quote Calanthia Cobbin: Level 3 Hobbit Ranger Rogue of Stick 'Em With The Pointy End! breebles
Definitely down the chicken soup! It's a natural decongestant so it'll help destuff your face (it's my miracle drug since I have such bad sinus issues. I get splitting migraines from them. Down a can of chicken soup and i'm golden.) It just has to be brother, so it can be chicken noodle, chicken rice, just broth, ramen, pregresso, boulion, whatever! Definitely helps. Water will definitely help, too. I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling. But that's really true. Even if I'm getting a D now, by the end I might have a C or a B or even an A for the week, but I'm not gonna get there if I throw in the towel! <3 I find myself not caring about my challenge thread, but updating in here. Koaladle
Dude I had to COMPLETELY NERF MY CHALLENGE. I cut it down to like a fifth of its original ambition because I was FAILING SO HARD. Adapt! Keep going! Make it easier if you're feeling down on yourself! This challenge is supposed to be about success. I am also ultra super struggling. it's That Week coming up, and instead of completing any of the challenges (two can be done on my butt) I did halfsies on all of them. It's difficult to change your habits, but it's worth the effort! No matter how badly a day goes, you have another to prove to yourself you're committed to your health. I had to totally revamp my challenge because it wasn't a sustainable change and I was pushing too hard to succeed. It happens and all you need to do is admit where things went wrong and make a change that will help you do better next time. Quote Koaladle Current Challenge Daily Battle Log Link to comment
ixaera
I'm on call this coming week, which I worry will mess with my ability to go to Krav Maga classes. I'm hoping I get lucky and there are no major emergencies or maintenances scheduled, though. 1 Quote Link to comment
Calanthia Cobbin
Just out of curiosity, what do you all do for your "day job" when you aren't secretly being assassins and ninjas? I'm a substitute teacher although I have a degree in Science education (just happen to live in a town with no jobs ) Also you will all be happy to know that I am feeling much better already! Although I am still going to be taking Dayquil if I have to go in to work tomorrow Thanks for the suggestions I didn't have any soup but I did make tea which helped my throat and nose and I drank coffee because it's a bronchodilator so it helped me be able to breathe Goals were sucky as I predicted which is exactly why I gave myself that little grace-period. Tomorrow I continue on my quest for greatness! 1 Quote Calanthia Cobbin: Level 3 Hobbit Ranger Rogue of Stick 'Em With The Pointy End! ixaera
So glad you are just about back on your feet! Science sounds like a blast~ how do you like teaching as a substitute compared to teaching Science full-time? What grade is your specialty? I'm in data support. Sort of. It's hard to explain. It's like tech support, only instead of telling people to turn it off and back on again, I research why our proprietary product doesn't work as expected sometimes. It's digging around in SQL Server databases and SSIS packages, and making changes where needed (or requesting that the person who oopsed it in the first place make the change). I like the job a lot, but at times we're under a lot of pressure to figure out a major issue quickly, and there are on call weeks, where if anything happens during non-business hours, I get to handle it then :/ Usually I've been lucky with my rotations, but I have had to be up very late, and one time had to skip sleep over it. One time in 1.5 years isn't so bad! 1 Quote Link to comment
Calanthia Cobbin
Yeah that's not bad your job sounds really interesting although high-stress environments and I don't get along I specialize in teaching high school biology although I can teach any science in most states subbing vs teaching both have their ups and downs, for example I really like not having to take any work home with me as a sub and it is very relaxed because a lot of teachers just assign a worksheet or a movie, but sometimes it can be boring and I often get placed in classrooms that aren't science so sometimes I don't have any way to help the students with their work. It gets my foot in the door though in case there are any openings for science teachers in the future 2 Quote Calanthia Cobbin: Level 3 Hobbit Ranger Rogue of Stick 'Em With The Pointy End! Laurenji
I'm a Search Engine Optimization Specialist, or SEO, which sounds really fancy but is basically just PR/Marketing with an internet focus. I help websites figure out what words to use, what content to write, which other websites to reach out to, so that they show up better when you look for them on Google. It's actually kind of boring - I don't know what I want to do with my life yet, but it's definitely not this. But it pays well enough and isn't too difficult, so it works fine for now. 2 Quote "Then laugh, leaning back in my arms; For life's not a paragraph, And death, I think, is no parenthesis." ~ E.E.
