Bast
Bast Assassinates Holiday Horrors Well, it's that time of the year again...when we all go nuckin' futs trying to find, create and give the Holiday Spirit. But I can't help but be reminded of the filk "12 Pains of Christmas", especially after how the last few years have gone for us...all stress with no giving, just taking on the parts of others...it made us (me, especially) feel like everyone around us were taking advantage of our loving and generous natures. I would always end up over doing it...working too hard trying to make everything "perfect"...and end up not enjoying anything. But not this year! I plan to take the baby steps I need to so that I can have an enjoyable Holiday and destroy all the things that create havoc! Epic Quest:Stealing Christmas from Fibromyalgia This will be my first Holiday Season with the Rebellion. So I'm looking at what I can do to keep Fibro at bay instead of ruining what should be a happy and enjoyable time of year. Throughout this Quest (Main and Life) are little things that, if I do them, can help reduce my stress and allow me more time to enjoy the Season. I will continue to post in my updates a weekly Fibromyalgia inspiration, as well as when I feel I need a little extra motivation. I also hope that this helps others who also fight this (or similar) battles. I've contemplated adding scoring to this aspect of my progression, as it is present on each of my Quests for every 6WC...but I'm not sure how to score or award. So for now, beating Fibro is its own reward...it always is!! Main Quest:Baby, It's cold... Since I began with the Rebellion, I've worked on inch loss vs. weight loss. I do pretty well during each 6WC, loosing an average of about 7 inches, but severely falter during each break, regaining an average of 5 inches! And this round was no exception...I had gained back all but 1/2 a pound and 1 inch from my starting stats last 6WC!!! AAARRRGGGG!!!!! I need to work on breaking that cycle!! So this round, I'm going to focus on maintenance rather than loss, which if I'm successful, will come in quite handy during the Holiday Feasting! So I'm going to grant a point for maintaining my beginning inches, with only a +2" fluctuation from beginning stats. Bonus points will be awarded for any loss over 7" (since I tend to loose 7" per 6WC anyway). On an interesting side aspect of this, I'm going to try a little experiment...I read a blurb on Facebook a while back, about freezing fat cells and thinking it was a hoax, I did some research. I discovered that not only wasn't it a hoax (I found several scientific articles and research papers on the subject), there are also companies (mainly stateside) that do it as a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. It's called "cryolipolysis", and there were a couple of the medical reference articles that suggested that similar results could be accomplished by using ice packs a few times a week. So I'm going to try it. Keeping in mind, it's an experiment, so points are for conducting the experiment, not the results! However, ending the experiment before the end of the 6WC due to any ill effects will still result in a success. Grading: 1 point = applying ice packs to "pooch" for 1 hour <3x / week> 1 point = maintain inches with only +2" fluctuation from beginning stat <1x / week> 1 point = bonus for each inch lost above 7" 4+ points possible per week --> 24+ possible total Reward: +1WIS, +1 CHA Beginning Stats: Weight - 124.5 # Ribs - 30" Waist - 30" Belly - 34" Quest 1:Reindeer Games So a few changes this go around...I didn't include yoga last round, and it really showed! I've lost a lot of my flexibility just in that short amount of time! So I'm going to do the Do You Yoga's 30-day Yoga Challenge. If I do it 5 days a week (Monday through Friday), then I'll complete the entire thing by the end of this 6WC. When trying out Parkour Training last round, I discovered one of my issues was endurance...especially in the area of running...but since I'm waaay out of practice, I'm going to take the advice of a Ranger (who's post I read on another's thread) and try the C25K program (couch to 5k), which builds you up slowly, with workouts 3 times a week. My other major problem was that I can't take a hit like I used to, so I'm going to also work on body conditioning...other wise known as "impact training" or "armor building". I'm going to do this twice a week, between the c25k days. I know I'll probably be starting small, so it'll be a do or don't thing, rather than a how much or how long...I don't want to over do it and end up flaring! My hubby wants for us to run together, but he's been running regularly (as part of his PT), and we are at totally different speeds and stamina levels...that and he wanted to do it in the evenings, but that's a bad time for me...my energy is best early in the day, and by the time he get's home, I'm busy cooking dinner and I definitely don't want to run after dinner and before bed!! So we compromised on doing evening walks three times a week. We've tried to do this before, but always peetered out pretty quickly...I'm going to add it for now as a regular point, but may make it a bonus point later (if we only do it once a week or so...). I've also been asked by some potential students for me to teach Belly Dance again...so I'm going to check out the possibility for that. If I do it, it may replace the Hubby walks or just get added to the system. But that'll be a wait and see. Last round, I totally failed on adding a new activity each week...so this time, I'm going to add it as a bonus point. My other bonus point will be the usual weekly mileage. I'm sticking with the 20 miles for one point grading, but that 20 miles will have to be non-workout mileage...between the runs and the walks, that'll be a couple extra miles each week alone! I will be tracking my mileage for each workout...just to see how much (and how far) I'm going! Grading: 1 point = Do You Yoga 30-day Challenge <5x / week> 1 point = Couch to 5k <3x / week> 1 point = armor building impact training <2x / week> 1 point = Hubby walks <3x / week> 1 point = Bonus for new activity/class attended 1 point = bonus for 20 cumulative non-workout pedometer mileage for the week 13+ points possible per week --> 78+ possible total Reward: +2 DEX, +2 STA, +2 STR Quest 2:Seasons Eatings So this will be somewhat of a repeat from last round. We have waaay too much food in this house that needs to be eaten...there's a PCS tradition among Military Families, that when it's time for a family to PCS, all their food gets given to their friends who are staying (movers won't pack the food). This is why we have a deep freezer and a regular freezer full and a pantry that's overflowing...we had several friends PCS during this past year!! It'll be out turn to PCS in about a year or so, and I don't want to continue this particular tradition. I've tried to give away the food that was given to us, some stuff went to others that we knew, but for the most part, it all stayed with us, but it now has to go!! So the challenge will be to cook healthy meals using primarily the current inventory. Shopping will be limited to regular use items (milk, coffee, cat food, toilet paper, etc) and recipe fillers (like onions or seasonings, etc) so long as the bulk of the recipe utilizes current inventory. Once certain aspects of the inventory get used up (like protein or veggies), then they can be purchased and a new inventory list created and kept so that we know what we have and how much of it! I realize that Thanksgiving is smack in the middle of this 6WC and the Holiday Baking Season will wrap it up, but that's OK. By that point, there should be enough of a dent that I will actually have somewhere to put a turkey!! Grading will be for each meal in which inventory is utilized, with the goal of using as much as possible! Hubby was concerned about possible failure here, so currently, the goal is for 5 meals a week...but this may get adjusted if we go way over regularly. A bonus point will be awarded for each area that is able to be cleared, organized and inventoried. Grading: 1 point = each meal utilizing current inventory <5x / week> 1 point = bonus for each area cleared, organized and inventoried 5+ points possible per week --> 30+ possible total Reward: +1 CON, +1 WIS Quest 3:Batteries not included... As slight adjustment on an old classic...Over my past few challenges, I've been really good about getting plenty of rest and relaxation...which is crucial for someone with Fibro...but I've noticed that my before bed routine is a bit lacking. I have on my daily task list as my before bed routine to clean the kitchen (now, I just put away leftovers), put things on the launch pad (get things ready that I need to go out the door with the next morning), wash face, brush teeth and lay out clothes. All of which, doesn't normally take very long, but I just don't seem to get it done... I also find myself getting a bit burned out from doing my self-guided meditations. I figured this would be a great time to do the Do You Yoga's 30-day Meditation Challenge again. And of course, I need to go to bed 8 hours before I need to get up. All three of these I will do 5 times a week (Sunday through Thursday) to get a jump start on the work day the next morning! I'm also going to grant a bonus point for pampering. This will include things like doing a hair treatment, facial, mani/pedi or even soaking in a hot bath. It will not include anything that would be considered maintenance or "special" care due to injury or illness. Grading: 1 point = Before Bed Routine <5x / week> 1 point = Do You Yoga 30-day Meditation Challenge <5x / week> 1 point = go to bed 8 hours before alarm <5x / week> 1 point = bonus for pampering 15+ possible per week --> 90+ possible total Reward: +1 CON, +1 CHA Life Quest 1:Harnessing Holiday Havoc I still haven't gotten these habits down, so this will be an almost complete redux from last round...with one exception...I'm adding the Flylady's Holiday Cruising Missions. Granted, they've already started, and will technically end before this challenge, but there will be a few final missions that will go up until Christmas, plus clean-up missions after. One thing I'm going to work on here (and in cooperation with LQ2) is doing things more timely. It may seem like a lot, but before this duty station, I was able to get up at 0600, do all these things, work 2 part time jobs, fix dinner, and was able to relax a few hours between dinner and bed at 2200! Now I just need to figure out how I did that! I'll probably run a timer during the first week to see how long it takes me to do all my tasking (without getting sidetracked) so I can assess where I need to focus on improving. Grading: 1 point = Weekly Home Blessing (WHB) <1x / week> 1 point = Daily Cleaning Routines <5x / week> 1 point = Daily Zone Missions <5x / week> 1 point = Daily Zone Detail Cleaning <5x / week> 1 point = Holiday Cruising Missions <5x / week> 1 point = Area decluttered and organized <1x / week> 1 point = bonus per box cleared 1 point = bonus for 10 items sold 22+ points possible per week --> 132+ possible total Reward: +1 STA Life Quest 2:The Holiday Line Up... And here's another redux...I'm doing OK with the scheduling, and NF posts and updates, but the daily emails keep getting vastly overlooked. This round, I'm going to work harder on scheduling "a time for everything"...I seriously need to track my time and activities so that I know where my time is being spent and on what...since I'm not getting much accomplished that I would like, and my days aren't particularly any shorter than they were when I lived in Negishi and got all this stuff done and worked 2 part-time jobs!! Grading: 1 point = creating & maintaining schedule <5x / week> 1 point = daily emails <5x / week> 1 point = NF weekly update <1x / week> 1 point = NF minis, posts & ambassadoring <5x / week> 16+ possible per week --> 96+ possible total Reward: +1 WIS Life Quest 3:Deck the Halls with Holly or Money... In case you hadn't noticed, my Life Quests are all pretty much repeats from last round. It's not that I'm unimaginative...I mean, I kinda am (but that's not why), it's just that I still need to work on improving in these areas! For this one, I'm incorporating "practical applications" as bonuses for both Herbology and Finance. It hurt me when I was sick...I was using what I had already learned, but was too ill to actively study (spent an hour reading the same paragraph at one point). And I'll be assisting (possibly teaching or teaching the one who will be the instructor) with a class later this month on Holiday Budgeting, so there's a practical application in Finance. I still need a job, so the same bonuses for applications and interviews/follow-ups will apply. If I am able to procure a job, then this aspect of this quest will be completed and I'll adjust the figures accordingly. Grading: 1 point = Herbology unit completed with passed exam <1x / week> 1 point = Herbology homework / projects <1x / week> 1 point = Financial Continuing Education work <1x / week> 1 point = Financial study (read article, book, magazine, etc.) <1x / week> 1 point = research job opportunities <3x / week> 1 point = bonus for Herbology practical application 1 point = bonus for Finance practical application 1 point = bonus for each application submitted 1 point = bonus for each interview / follow-up 7+ possible per week --> 42+ possible total Reward: +1 WIS For the Guild:An Assassin for all Seasons... I don't think I'll have a choice in whether or not I participate in the minis again this round since it will be Hubby's first time as an Assassin, so this will be interesting. Since the minis always have us divided up, more or less at random, into team, we could be allies or competitors...but either way, we'll still have a lot of fun!! The theme this time is "Super Mario Assassin All-Stars", but only the sign up has been posted so far. Per usual, this will be a do or don't scenario. If I participate, I get a point and whatever the reward that gets allocated by the awesome Guild Leaders! I will be serving, once again, as an Assassin Ambassador, so I'll be doing my part, along with my fellow awesome Ambassadors, to help usher in the latest victims, er, I mean, Recruits! LOL! Grading: No grades, just a do or don't. Reward: TBD per mini Next Weeks Focus... Monday starts the Challenge, so I'll be working on posting my beginning stats and measuring a few things (like time for tasking and mileage staring stats for run, etc.) so I know where I started to accurately chart my progress. We've got a lot to do and only six weeks to do it, so let's get started! See ya'll in the Challenge!! Bast
Well, it's finally day 1...and it's time to get started... We spent a chunk of the day at the Onsen yesterday, so we were nicely rested and relaxed for the start of this 6WC. But sadly, I got sidetracked trying to upload this thread...I kept having computer issues...apparently my laptop is super sensitive, and kept closing the page or deleting sections of what I'd already written, several times, I was unable to retrieve all I had already typed (often a large paragraph!), so I'd have to retype it all over again! BLARG! I had hoped to do a preliminary run of my Quest 3 to get a good start on Day 1...but that didn't happen. By the time I got the thread up, I discovered I needed to clean up more than a few things in order for Hubby and I to have a relatively smooth morning. Needless to say, I didn't make it to bed until almost 4 am...oh well, best laid plans of mice and men, right? Not only did I end up sleeping until almost 1000, I was also not prepared for what I woke to because I had not properly prepped the night before . So I awoke, feeling very stiff, sore, achy and lethargic...it was raining... The weather is one of the factors that affects my Fibro quite a bit. So I haven't done much of my Life Quests...only worked on my NF updates and scheduling...but I did download a free c25k app for my phone and tried to prep my iPad for yoga and meditation, but it wouldn't work...so I set it up on my laptop. I still need to put together my 6WC spreadsheet and figure out what format I'll be using for my armor building impact training (which I'll start tomorrow). But I'm holding off on that until Hubby comes home since the templates are on my desktop and he'll need to use my laptop (because his laptop is having issues after spilling his drink on it Friday...) when he comes home to work on his NF updates. That way I can relax, watch my football game and work on my daily emails from my laptop until he comes home. I think I'll also try to put a dent in my adulting tasks for LQ1... I did suck it up and did my yoga and Day 1 for c25k. I was really sore and not as flexible as I had been for the yoga. And I did my c25k in the rain...it started out kinda miserable (and a bit cold), but I did very well. It took about 20 minutes until I noticed the wall, which is better than I though I'd be, but I still cleared the last 10 minutes without any issues and I covered 1.74 miles! Despite the rain, I enjoyed the time I spent out there...it was definitely Autumn...I had to do a weave up and down streets around the neighborhood, to try to time it right that I'd end at the house on time (not too early or late)...but since the guide told me the half-way point, I got the bright idea to try to run the flight line next time. I'm also going to check with the gym and MWR to see if there are any running trails... I've realized that this little blurb is turning into a big blurb...there's one of my time-wasters. I seem to be turning this into more of a journal than a reference...need to work on that... I suppose one thing I can do is to do a weekly plan...I already do one, so I'll just need to post the challenge aspects of it here. But I'll work on that after the spreadsheet, which will serve as the foundation! Anyhoo...I need to check the pot...I'm using inventory to make a large pot of Ham and Bean Stew...a good hearty meal for a cold, wet Autumn day... 1 Quote Bast Level 8 Assassin Goddess STR: 19 DEX: 17 STA: 18 CON: 18 WIS: 18 CHA: 19 Challenges: Current 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 1/2 Battle Log PvP: Adulting & Accountability: The CutLasses Shimmy! Bast
Week 1 Summary Ok, well, this week went OK...I have to make a few adjustments, so bear with me a bit. I seriously felt like I bit off more than I could chew in almost all areas, but then when I looked at it, I didn't do as bad as I had thought! Epic Quest:Stealing Christmas from Fibromyalgia I didn't actually flare this week!! I'm so proud of myself!! I was really sore from all the working out, and pretty tired...but I didn't have any major pain! No flares! No fibro issues! Well...not entirely...I was a bit fibro-y over the weekend...very lethargic, unmotivated, and teetered on the edge of flaring (but didn't go completely over!)...but that was more the weather, I think...it had been very nice all week, but was rainy and miserable for the weekend. I'm hoping I can keep it up in Week 2, but it's supposed to start off kinda miserable... Main Quest: 2 points (out of 4)Baby, It's cold... I did pretty good this week...well, at least in the area of maintenance...I dropped, 1/2 a pound and I lost 1/2" in my belly!! I'm not sure if this was from the cryolipolysis, or just being so active during the week...I suppose it's too soon to tell. However, I only did the cryolipolysis experiment one time this week, on Friday (I got side tracked the rest of the week)...and on both Saturday and Sunday, there were a couple of spots in the area (belly) that were tender...they felt bruised, but there were no marks. Soreness and bruising are two of the common side effects...so maybe it was working!! Another possible side effect I had was in the bathroom...my "downloads" on Saturday were particularly "greasy" or "slimy"...perhaps from my body getting rid of dead fat cells? I don't know...we'll see if it continues to occur as I go through Week 2. Week 2 Plan: apply ice packs to "pooch" for 1 hour on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (to catch up) Beginning Stats: Weight - 124.5 # Week 1: Weight - 124# Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Belly - 34" Belly - 33.5" Quest 1: 10 points (out of 10)Reindeer Games Ok, so here's where I need to do some adjusting first... As predicted, "Hubby Walks" were pretty much a no go...we only did it once this week, and it was to and from our JATA on-base club meeting (we meet each week, rotating between on and off base)! So I'm shifting "Hubby Walks" from a 3x / week to a bonus point, and changing the points to 10+ per week and 60+ total. I also was very tired on Thursday, and before I could get in a workout, my schedule took on a mind of it's own! LOL! No worries, I guess my body needed the rest...so no yoga or impact training that day...I had planned to shift it to Saturday, since Hubby wanted to try the impact training with me...but that totally bombed!! Between rain and household putterings all weekend, no additional workouts were completed. I did great with my c25k, completing all three days for a cumulative 5.42 miles, increasing my distance a little bit each time!! I got four out of five yoga sessions for the week. It took some research, but I came up with my armor building/impact training list. I'm doing "get back ups"...1 rep = one round of each position...stand to lay on floor (belly, right side, left side, pushup plank, back) then stand back up..with 7 variations (regular, R hand on R knee, L hand on L knee, R hand on L knee, L hand on R knee, both hands behind head, both hands behind back). I did 1 rep per variation. Then there's Grass Drills...up downs, up downs -roll right, up downs - roll left. I did one of each. And finally Tumbling Drills...somersaults (forwards rolls), R shoulder rolls, L shoulder rolls, cartwheels (facing right then facing left). I did one of each, except somersaults...I did two...I had really bad form in the first one (heard my neck crack/pop loudly) then tried again, also horrible form. Because I don't want to hurt my neck (injure myself) I may be cutting these from the roster. My cartwheels were also in bad form, but not in anyway that could injure myself...just an adult who hasn't done one since Grammar School!! LOL!! In addition to shifting the hubby walk to a bonus (2.60 miles for that), I clocked a total of 27.87 miles for the week!! Subtracting my c25k distance, it was 22.45...minus hubby walk, it was 19.85. So since the hubby walk got shifted to a bonus (otherwise only 0.15 miles short), I'm going to count the mileage as a bonus. Week 2 Plan: Do You Yoga 30-day Challenge on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (to catch up) Couch to 5k on Monday, Wednesday and Friday armor building impact training on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (to catch up) Quest 2: 12 points (out of 10)Seasons Eatings This is where another adjustment will need to be. Hubby insisted that we couldn't knock out more than 5 inventory meals (or snacks), so I left the points low...HA!! Now that his diet is focusing on being healthy and portion control for maintaining (he does want to loose, but it's a very small amount), he forgot how many much I can incorporate inventory!! It was pretty much breakfasts and dinners, for the most part. However, we did have a few moments (as the gif might suggest) of coming across for a snack or dessert a "what is this?" item and a few "is this any good?" items!! Needless to say, the items that did get tossed because they had spoiled or were just plain "YUCK!", weren't extra points, they just went along with whatever meal or snack for which they were discovered and trashed! We haven't gotten enough cleared to do any serious organizing, but we've put a pretty good dent in it!! However, we did kinda "add" to our inventory... We like having pre-made meals on hand in case of unexpected company, last minute schedule changes (delaying or cancelling regularly planned meals) or if I'm feeling too poorly (sick or fibro) to cook. We like making our own "frozen dinners" from things homemade that we already like...so from the week's menu, I was able to freeze 3 containers of pork bone broth, 1 container of ham & bean stew, 2 containers of tuna casserole (which we'll see if this one freezes & reheats well) and 1 container of ham & scalloped potatoes!! Although these technically "added" to the inventory, I'm not counting them as penalties, especially since they were made from current inventory and we need to stock back up on freezer meals. Week 2 Plan: currently 4 dinners on the meal plan (Tuesday will be out & haven't planned Saturday or Sunday yet) utilizing current inventory 5 breakfasts utilizing inventory extra points possible for snacks, dessert and weekend "brunch" Quest 3: 19 points (out of 15)Batteries not included... I really enjoyed doing this entire Quest this week!! So much so that at bedtime on Friday night, I felt a little lost not doing my meditation!! My before bed routine wasn't perfect...I didn't exactly "clean" the kitchen...I put away leftovers and put the dishes in the sink to soak so they'd be ready to be washed first thing in the morning (while waiting on the coffee). But I think that's pretty darn good!! I did three pampering soaks...mostly because of soreness, but they also helped relax me so I was able to sleep better...well, for the most part! I missed out on my 8 hours on Tuesday (as I do most Tuesdays) because of JATA...the meeting doesn't end until 9 pm (which is my bedtime to get 8 hours), so we don't get home until around 9:30 (at the earliest), plus about 30 minutes to an hour to wind down, put stuff away from the meeting, bedtime routine and meditation...but I got a couple of extra points from getting to sleep in on the weekend! So I'm just going to plan that I won't get my 8 hours on Tuesday...it's just not in the schedule (because I can't control the JATA meeting time). Week 2 Plan: Before Bed Routine Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Do You Yoga 30-day Meditation Challenge Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday go to bed 8 hours before alarm Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday Life Quest 1: 21 points (out of 22)Harnessing Holiday Havoc I thought I did pretty bad here, because I didn't get all my Zone Missions and Details done... But when I sat down, I realized I didn't do as bad as I thought...granted, most of the Holiday Cruising Missions didn't get done until Sunday, because I needed Hubby to work on them...things like are we traveling, what are our plans/appts/etc, are we having company (or will we be company), what's our Holiday budget / gift list / Menu...things that in which his input is necessary!! I'm doing quite well staying on top of my dailies...I even got my Weekly Home Blessing done! It took until Friday to get it done, but it left the house nice and clean and relaxing for the weekend...which made it easier to keep clean we just had to pick up after ourselves), and it inspired us to work on household projects. Hubby and I discussed continuing the WHB on Fridays (Flylady does her's on Mondays - which is our Tuesday), and we agreed that we like starting the weekend with a clean house...for the reasons we liked this weekend, plus it's company ready...just in case!! However, I'm still seriously lacking in the Zones!! I thought about adjusting the point system, but I think I'm just going to hold out and see if I can get on top of it... Week 2 Plan: Weekly Home Blessing moved to Friday Daily Cleaning Routines Monday through Friday, but often includes dishes and picking up after ourselves on Saturday & Sunday Daily Zone Missions for 15 minutes Monday through Friday Daily Zone Detail Cleaning for 15 minutes Monday through Friday Holiday Cruising Missions attempted Monday through Friday, but may end up getting on on Saturday or Sunday if Hubby needed Area decluttered and organized hopefully I'll be able to work this in during the week...if not on the weekend to clear boxes with Hubby in the Project Room Life Quest 2: 10 points (out of 16)The Holiday Line Up... Despite some unexpected surprises in my schedule, this week didn't go half bad...I stayed on top of that...I posted my NF update, took care of some mini posts and Ambassadoring...however...once again I blew chunks when it came to emails...I only worked on that on one day instead of my planned 5...need to see about getting that improved...on the bright side, I canceled and unsubscribed things I came across that don't use, read or need (especially all the advertisements!), then searched my account and deleted them from my unread history...I was surprised how far back some of those ads went!! So that at least freed up some storage and lessened the number of emails I'll be getting every day... Oh, and I only timed myself for a few different tasks...WHB took a lot longer that I thought it would (over 1/2 an hour to vacuum and about 40 minutes to mop the floors...not counting drying time!), so I'm going to have to adjust accordingly for those, and time myself this week for the rest! Week 2 Plan: create & maintain schedule Monday through Friday time myself for remaining tasks to see how long they actually take daily emails Monday through Friday and time myself to see how long it takes to clear a day's worth of emails NF weekly update Monday...typing it now and forgot to set timer...will have to wait to time myself next week Check for minis daily until posted and update spreadsheet when necessary Do Ambassadoring tasks Monday through Friday (check Recruits progress & Recruits forum for late starters, check Assassin Initiates forum, post motivation as necessary, update spreadsheet accordingly) Life Quest 3: 0 points (out of 6)Deck the Halls with Holly or Money... Yeah, I know, I know...this was HORRIBLE!! I'm going to try harder this week...if I can't get a handle on this, then I may either adjust the points or drop it entirely for this 6WC...especially considering how much else I have going on this time around... Week 2 Plan: Complete two Herbology projects on Thursday and Friday Instruct new instructor for a Finance class on Monday or Wednesday (depending on when the class gets rescheduled) Read (completely) 1 Finance Magazine (which when put away, decreases my clutter!) Research Jobs on Wednesday (and apply if able) For the Guild:An Assassin for all Seasons... HA HA HA HA HA!!! Well, it turns out that I'm on the Green Team (which is Hubby's favorite color) and he's on the Pink Team!! LOL!! Yeah, I'm sooooo teasing him about that! LOL! Anyhoo, since we aren't on the same team, things will be a bit interesting around here. So far, he keeps forgetting about the mini and kept asking me what it was and what to do...then he needed me to post his final numbers! LOL!! Well, I can't blame him too much...he did fry his laptop last weekend... Anyhoo, this week's mini was Level 1: Basic, which was jumping. 100 jumps (broad, box, lunge or tuck) total to clear the level. The Yoshi option (which is an either/or, not "in addition to") was to cook something and post with pics using Acorn Squash instead of jumping. I jumped....I did 50 of each variation...yeah, 100 more than I needed, but there was an indication that more could end up with bonuses of sorts...I'm hoping that since two of our teammates didn't complete the level, that our "extras" can go to help them out! No surprise minis this week... Super Mario Assassin All-Stars: Green Team... OK, so I did pretty good in Week 1...and I'm pleased (and surprised) that I didn't get burned out...although I found it harder to keep it up (motivation was lacking) as the week progressed..especially when things "came up"...as they always seem to do! Under each Quest heading, I listed my proverbial plan of attack for Week 2 in the area. So I'm going to focus to staying motivated and Keep up the Momentum in Week 2... Bast
Week 2 Summary So this week didn't exactly go as planned...and it ended up being a lot more reflective than I expected!! I made several realizations and more than a few epiphanies! It seems that I have a nasty tendency to bite off more than I can chew, which pretty much sets me up for disaster...or rather a perceived failure!! I have realized that, while I tend to start off with Week 1 at full throttle, I often begin to peter out by the end of Week 2...especially regarding my Main Quest, specifically exercising...and this round has been no exception! So I'll need to make a few adjustments to accommodate reality. My greatest epiphany this week was regarding my Life Quests, particularly the scheduling aspect. So part of my Life Quest 3 is to get a job...but I grouse about how I don't have time to take care of Life Quest 1 like I used to, much less Life Quest 2... Well, what will happen to all that when I do get a job? I"ll have even less time in a day, since most of it will be out of the house! So I got the bright idea to work on completing my workouts and LQ1 around a "normal" work schedule...meaning my work hours would be from 8 am to 5 pm, so I would have to do Q1 & LQ1 before 8 am and after 5 pm (Q2 and Q3 already automatically fall into that time frame). Basically, in order to prepare myself for going back to work, I'm working this into my scheduling, with LQ2, LQ3, Minis and "extra tasking" to be done during the "work day" (between 8 am and 5 pm). Sadly, I got derailed before I really got started...I tweaked something in my wrist Friday morning trying to open a jar that had been cinched down too tight by my hubby...it was bad enough that I couldn't feel my thumb or index finger and the rest of my fingers were tingly!! Needless to say, it caused me to have a Fibro Flare and I was pretty much useless the rest of the day!! The weather turned that eve, so I struggled the rest of the weekend. Just one more reason to adjust my Quests for reality. Epic Quest:Stealing Christmas from Fibromyalgia So this week didn't go as well as I would have liked. Even though it ended roughly with injury (for which I had to medicate myself...twice) and weather induce flaring, I am pleased with how I handled myself. Prior to the injury, I noticed that I was petering out on my quests, but instead of beating myself up or saying bad things to myself about what I had NOT done, I commended and praised myself on what I HAD done!! I also thought about what I could do to build myself up for improved success, and then worked on putting it into action! I also apologized to my husband for lashing out at him when I sprained my wrist (because he had been the one to put the lid on the jar waaaay tooo tight!!), and thanked him for being so supportive and understanding! He loves me, supports me and helps me...regardless if I'm having a good day or a bad one. He is my greatest cheerleader, and I am grateful! Main Quest: 4 points (out of 4)Baby, It's cold... This week was kinda funny...so I noticed that my "pooch" was kinda sore after doing the cryolipolysis, so I did some extra research to see if it was a "normal" side effect. I ended up finding several "medical" website forums where people were inquiring about DIY cryolipolisis (which is what I'm doing) and doctors were ranting about how dangerous it is to do with ice packs (insisting that severe damage to skin and muscles under the fat would occur) and how people were to ONLY go to a special site that used the "name brand" machine. However, if the machine can reach said temps, why doesn't it damage the skin or underlying tissues? This seemed a bit fishy, considering MD and Orthopedic Surgeons all tell you to use ice packs on sprains and other injuries, so I delved a bit deeper... Turns out, each one of the ranting doctors was some form of a cosmetic physician or aesthetician who used said "name brand" machine in their office!! I also reconfirmed that using ice packs is safe (according to the American Medical Association and Orthopedic Surgeons), as long as they are not directly applied to the skin (always have a cloth between the ice pack and the skin). I also confirmed that a cloth is used to separate the "name brand" machine and the skin, so as not to damage the skin....hmmm... So anyhoo, it turns out the soreness I felt is considered a "normal" side effect and possible indicator that the "treatment is working". I did the experiment 3 times (Monday, Thursday and Saturday). During the course of the week, I gained 1 1/2 pounds and an inch and later lost an inch...so all in all, still maintaining. Week 3 Plan: apply ice packs to "pooch" for 1 hour on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday Beginning Stats: Weight - 124.5 # Week 1: Weight - 124# Week 1: Weight - 125.5# Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Ribs - 29.5" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Belly - 34" Belly - 33.5" Belly - 33.5" Quest 1: 4 points (out of 10)Reindeer Games Based on my realizations and epiphanies this week, I may need to do some more adjusting here. To keep the math easy, I kept the yoga for 5 days, c25k for 3 days and ABIT (armor building/impact training) for 2 days...allowing 10 points per week, for 60 total...well, this was a rough week for me (bad weather, lack of motivation and an injury), so only got two runs and two yogas. I did clear the 2 mile mark for my run, though! The yoga has been a bit difficult...the instructor really really likes down dogs, so there's been a lot of strain (pressure?) on my wrists. I find myself lifting my palms to take the pressure off, so I guess I need to work on my wrist strength and flexibility. No Hubby walks happened, so keeping that as a bonus still works. I didn't get my mileage bonus, either...I clocked 21.07 miles with my c25k, and 17.14 miles after subtracting. While I do like my runs (when I do them), I find myself struggling to go and do them! Same goes with the yoga, and it's even worse with the ABIT, which I had planned to do in the yard, but the grass is always so wet in the mornings...I guess I may need to move them to an indoor location...perhaps I'll see about the gym's padded floor options... I may see how Week 3 goes...if I can catch up, then I'll keep things as they are...if not, then I may need to readjust. Week 3 Plan: Do You Yoga 30-day Challenge on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) Couch to 5k on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (to catch up) armor building impact training on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (to catch up) Quest 2: 11 points (out of 10)Seasons Eatings No major surprises here...except Friday...with my wrist sprained, there was no cooking...so Hubby brought home take out for lunch and dinner. We also had one meal that didn't include hardly any inventory, and a couple of nights worth of leftovers. All in all, with only 3 dinners than incorporated inventory, we still made a sizable dent! Breakfasts and weekend "grazing" seem to be the "little bit extra" needed to clear out the pantry! Week 3 Plan: currently 5 dinners on the meal plan (Saturday will be out or leftovers & haven't planned Sunday yet) utilizing current inventory 5 breakfasts utilizing inventory extra points possible for snacks, dessert and weekend "brunch" Quest 3: 10 points (out of 15)Batteries not included... And once again, the shine has worn off of the new 6WC...I only did my BBR once, and had a 8 hour bedtime three times...I didn't do my meditation on Tuesday, but did one on Saturday to complete all 5. I'm hoping to get back on track here next week. I really need to work harder on the bedtime thing...if I get enough rest, I should have the energy to get through the next day... Week 3 Plan: Before Bed Routine Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday Do You Yoga 30-day Meditation Challenge Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday go to bed 8 hours before alarm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Life Quest 1: 14 points (out of 22)Harnessing Holiday Havoc Didn't quite do as well as I would have liked...I kept up on my dailies and HCMs, but got derailed by weather and injury...However, Hubby and I did tackle our coat closet over the weekend...while it wasn't quite as bad as this image, it was full of things we hadn't used in years! We set up my portable clothes drying rack (that has a bar across the top for hanging items), but when we pulled all the coats and bags out and hung them on it, the A-frame legs broke at the hinge!! I guess there was too much stuff!! We found things in there that we hadn't seen since we moved in almost 2 years ago!! Needless to say, the closet is now organized! We pulled out everything and cleaned the inside of the closet (especially the floor!). Then we went through everything, one item at a time. Stuff we don't use/wear got put on the "go away" shelf, stuff we haven't used, but may in the future (like severe winter gear) got set aside to be shipped home to our storage unit, stuff that we're keeping to use got put where it belongs (and can be used), and stuff that was pretty much trash got thrown away! When we were finished, there was room to hang up my sweaters (which had been taking up excess space in the regular clothes closet). We realized that there was room between the door and the hangers to hang our backpacks and bags, but they would be too heavy for Command Strip hangers to hold them...Luckily for us, it's the Holiday Season, so I made a trip to the NEX Home Store and bought a couple of over the door wreath hangers...they worked PERFECTLY!!! Sadly, didn't touch the Project Room...but it's the "Extra Room" for Zone 3 next week... Week 3 Plan: Weekly Home Blessing moved to Friday Daily Cleaning Routines Monday through Friday, but often includes dishes and picking up after ourselves on Saturday & Sunday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Missions for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Detail Cleaning for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Holiday Cruising Missions attempted Monday through Friday, but may end up getting on on Saturday or Sunday if Hubby needed Area decluttered and organized hopefully I'll be able to work this in during the week...if not on the weekend to clear boxes with Hubby in the Project Room Life Quest 2: 5 points (out of 16)The Holiday Line Up... Yeah, this one seriously failed!! I timed myself for a few things, which was how I got the bright idea about how I'll get things accomplished when I get a job. So I plan to work on my scheduling so that I got most of LQ1 and Q1 done before 8 am or after 5 pm (which is what my job schedule may be), so that I can prepare myself for working a "regular" schedule. So my LQ2 and LQ3 would be done between 8 and 5. Q2 wouldn't be affected, and Q3 is normally tasked after 7 pm, so wouldn't be affected, either. Unfortunately, before I could put it into effect, I sprained my wrist...so, it'll be formally implemented for Week 3. I'll see how that goes before I consider tweaking the scoring for this. I still need to seriously get on top of those damn emails... I also need to post my mini accomplishments more timely. Week 3 Plan: create & maintain schedule Monday through Friday to incorporate tasking for work hours time myself for remaining tasks to see how long they actually take daily emails Monday through Friday and time myself to see how long it takes to clear a day's worth of emails NF weekly update Monday (already failed this one) Check for minis daily until posted and update spreadsheet timely and regularly Do Ambassadoring tasks Monday through Friday (check Recruits progress & Recruits forum for late starters, check Assassin Initiates forum, post motivation as necessary, update spreadsheet accordingly) Life Quest 3: 0 points (out of 6)Deck the Halls with Holly or Money... And Week 2 is a resounding giant goose egg...the Finance class got scheduled for Veterans Day, so it didn't happen and hasn't been rescheduled as of yet. So I may still be doing that...eventually. Week 3 Plan: Study Herbology during "work day" (M-F 8a-5p) Complete two Herbology projects during "work day" Instruct new instructor for a Finance class depending on when the class gets rescheduled Read (completely) 1 Finance Magazine (which when put away, decreases my clutter!) Research Jobs (and apply if able) For the Guild:An Assassin for all Seasons... This week's mini was Level 2: Underground, which was crawling. 200 crawls (bear or army crawls, crab walks or inchworms) total to clear the level. The Yoshi option (which is an either/or, not "in addition to") was to cook something and post with pics using Apples instead of crawling. I did bear crawls...it was funny, cuz the weather was crappy on and off, so I crawled laps around the house...the girls (our three cats) didn't know what to think!! LOL!! Unfortunately, I pulled a stupid...since I did them at varying intervals during my day, I kept track on my printed spreadsheet...but when I sprained my wrist bad enough that I couldn't type, I couldn't post what I had completed (which was 250...I was going for a red mushroom!)...then got sidetracked and busy and didn't get them posted until after the deadline. OOOPS... So my focus for Week 3 is to post my mini's when I do them (at least by the next day)! No surprise minis this week... Super Mario Assassin All-Stars: Green Team... So I didn't keep up the momentum like I wanted to...but that's OK. I didn't do too terribly bad, and I have a few ideas in place and a few more in mind that, once implemented, will let Week 3 go more smoothly! I need to get my workouts done, keep up the inventory eating, do better on sleeping 8 hours and PM routines, do my cleaning before and after "working hours", do my scheduling, those damn emails, and studies during "working hours" and post my minis! Bast
Week 3 Summary Well, I made the adjustments I planned, but things still didn't quite pan out like I would have liked...I'm making attempts, but life keeps thwarting me...I'm behind on EVERYTHING, and the weather is out to get me... I've decided that as long as I'm making an attempt and not give up, I'm succeeding! I may not be perfect, but at least I'm trying!! I'm also going to simplify even more...I realize that I spend HOURS posting my weekly updates...most of that time is searching for gifs and pics (I soooo don't have Google-fu, and what little I have sucks!), so now, to save time and wasted energy, I'll only have the intro, Fibro Inspiration and end focus...perhaps another here or there as applicable. So here's to getting it done quickly and simply... Epic Quest:Stealing Christmas from Fibromyalgia Rain, Rain, Go away...Come back NO other day... Yeah, rain and lots of it!! Really kicked my butt this week. I'm am grateful for what I WAS able to do despite the pain, and am ever thankful for my Beloved Hubby, who helped out! I am so Blessed to have him love and support me, even when I'm at my worst, my fuzzy girls who cuddle and snuggle with me and "monitor" me when in my tub soaks, and friends who accept when I can't do, cheer when I can and never judge! I can't wait for the weather to break... Main Quest: 2 points (out of 4)Baby, It's cold... I maintained my weight and inches, kinda...I lost 1/2# and 1/2" from the belly and gained 1/2" in ribs. Currently, the ribs are the same as the starting stat (as is the waist) but the belly is an inch less than the start!! However, I only did my cryolipolysis once...bad me...well, partly... Week 4 Plan: apply ice packs to "pooch" for 1 hour on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday Beginning Stats: Weight - 124.5 # Week 1: Weight - 124# Week 2: Weight - 125.5# Week 3: Weight - 125# Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Ribs - 29.5" Ribs - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Belly - 34" Belly - 33.5" Belly - 33.5" Belly - 33" Quest 1: 5 points (out of 10)Reindeer Games I was HORRIBLE here this week...I only did 3 of my DYY, and 1 c25k...mostly due to the sprints for the Assassins Minis plus a lot of bad weather affecting my fibro... However, I did get a bonus point for mileage...24.30 miles (26.37 including the c25k mileage)!! I was pleased that my c25k mileage didn't decrease over the weekend... Sadly, I've only completed 2 weeks on my c25k, so I'll need to do weeks 3 and 4 next week to get back on schedule. However, I did unlock a new skin for my c25k app by completing the first quarter! I did some checking with the base MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) office, who are in charge of the gyms and base fitness programs, to see when the next 5k would be. Well, there's a "Turkey Run" Thanksgiving Week (next week), but I'll only be on Week 4 out of 8 for my c25k, so the "Jingle Jog" will be the one for me to do... Granted, it'll be at the end of Week 7 for me (I'll still have 1 more week of training), but I think it'll be OK...it'll give me an idea of how far I've come...and Hubby said he'd do it with me! I'm thinking that if I finish it, I'll ask Santa for a special Yule gift...running gear! I currently run in t-shirts and stretchy pants... Week 4 Plan: Do You Yoga 30-day Challenge on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) Couch to 5k on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) armor building impact training on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday (to catch up) Quest 2: 10 points (out of 10)Seasons Eatings Stayed on track here...I technically cleared space in the deep freezer and did a little organizing, but quickly filled that space with the Thanksgiving Turkey and other freezables for the feast! Next week will be tough...The current meal plan only has a couple of dinners on it, then T-day feast and then T-day leftovers for the next couple of days! However, I do have about 4 dishes for Thanksgiving that will incorporate inventory!! Week 4 Plan: currently 2 dinners on the menu utilizing inventory (lots of leftovers will be consumed before & after Tday to empty fridge) use inventory in Thanksgiving Dinner 5 breakfasts utilizing inventory extra points possible for snacks, dessert and weekend "brunch" that clears inventory Quest 3: 7 points (out of 15)Batteries not included... I totally slacked on my BBR, and bedtime. I did get in my meditations and a pampering session (at the sacrifice to my BBR and bedtime). I need to work on that more... Week 4 Plan: Before Bed Routine Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday Do You Yoga 30-day Meditation Challenge Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday go to bed 8 hours before alarm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Life Quest 1: 12 points (out of 22)Harnessing Holiday Havoc Still not getting quite up to speed here...but I feel OK about it...I got my Holiday Cruising Missions in, and my Dailies, but I'm still lacking on the Zones and WHB. I didn't do too bad about getting my dailies done within the "work hours" schedule...and I put a dent in the project room (had to get to the Christmas presents to be shipped to the family stateside)! I'm not sure if I'll be any better next week, since it's a major cooking Holiday, and the week is not in that zone... Week 4 Plan: Weekly Home Blessing moved to Wednesday, before company on Thanksgiving Day Daily Cleaning Routines Monday through Friday, but often includes dishes and picking up after ourselves on Saturday & Sunday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Missions for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Detail Cleaning for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Holiday Cruising Missions attempted Monday through Friday, but may end up getting on on Saturday or Sunday if Hubby needed Area decluttered and organized hopefully I'll be able to work this in during the week...if not on the weekend to clear boxes with Hubby in the Project Room Life Quest 2: 9 points (out of 16)The Holiday Line Up... I did pretty good here...I worked on the "office hours" schedule for my tasking...basically dailies and zones before and after work hours (8a-5p), and catch ups and "extra" during those "working hours". I still had some trouble getting it all done before 8am (which also includes my workout, getting dressed and eating breakfast)...especially since after 5pm is pretty much cooking, eating & cleaning up dinner, then before bed routine...not much extra to squeeze in before our 9pm bedtime... I know next week will be unique in that I'm scheduling for a major feast, so there will be a lot of "extra" tasking (like the baking and pre-cooking). Week 4 Plan: create & maintain schedule Monday through Friday to incorporate tasking for work hours create & maintain Thanksgiving schedule for all the baking, pre-cooking and day-of activities time myself for remaining tasks to see how long they actually take daily emails Monday through Friday and time myself to see how long it takes to clear a day's worth of emails NF weekly update Monday (already failed this one) Check for minis daily until posted and update spreadsheet timely and regularly Do Ambassadoring tasks Monday through Friday (check Recruits progress & Recruits forum for late starters, check Assassin Initiates forum, post motivation as necessary, update spreadsheet accordingly) Life Quest 3: 1 points (out of 6)Deck the Halls with Holly or Money... I got my first point here this challenge! WOO HOO!! Hubby felt under the weather from having PT in the cold rain, so I administered some Demon Cider (my friend named it!), so thus a point for utilizing Herbology! Hmmm...I got a vaporizer a week ago, and have been using essential oils in it...perhaps that should count as an application point for Herbology... I don't think next week will be a very good week here with all that goes on for Thanksgiving...but I'll try... Week 4 Plan: Study Herbology during "work day" (M-F 8a-5p) Complete two Herbology projects during "work day" Instruct new instructor for a Finance class depending on when the class gets rescheduled Read (completely) 1 Finance Magazine (which when put away, decreases my clutter!) Research Jobs (and apply if able) For the Guild:An Assassin for all Seasons... This week's mini was Level 3: Haunted House, which was sprinting...300 seconds of sprints total to clear the level. The Yoshi option (which is an either/or, not "in addition to") was to cook something and post with pics using Beets. I would sprint down the street as far I as could as fast as I could, then catch my breath (pant & heave! LOL!), then sprint back...I did these as intervals during the week and was able to do 360 seconds! This helped my overall mileage, but definitely wiped me for doing my c25k... No surprise minis this week... Super Mario Assassin All-Stars: Green Team... Well, next week is the next step in the Season of Eating...and most people will put on the proverbial feed bag and break the bank in the name of the Holidays. Well, we don't normally have too much of an issue...pretty much all our Thanksgiving recipes are very old...from back in the days where there was no such thing as "processed foods" (heck, my Pecan Pie recipe predates the Civil War!!), and the ones that are a bit recent are from the farm...so it all utilizes lots of fresh and natural ingredients! The catch will be not to overspend on any "extras" and most importantly, NOT overeat!! I've been good about being mindful to not eat if I'm not hungry and to stop when I'm full. I've already figured my workout plan around Tday, now to just get myself organized and on track so that I can have a nice, relaxing and stress-free Holiday! Stay on Track in Week 4... Bast
Week 4 Summary I'm pleased how this week went. I survived Thanksgiving with very little stress!! I was able to organize a 3 family combo feast, where each family contributed a meat and sides which we all shared, as well as contributed to my hubby's Command potluck! And I did it all without FLARING!!! Only a few downsides...I didn't get as many workouts, meditations, or tasking done as I would have liked, I had way more leftovers than I expected, and I flared when it was all over, but all in all, it was a good Holiday. Hubby had duty that day, but we were able to pull it all together. I think our greatest success was how we all stepped up this year. Normally, when my Hubby has duty on Thanksgiving, we just shift it to Friday (since we don't do the Black Friday thing). However, this year, we kept it on Thanksgiving Day so that we could give a good Holiday to others who were far from home and family. Instead of our usual tradition, I created a new Holiday beverage...it doesn't have a name (yet), but it's a dollop of my homemade cranberry relish and ginger ale. It made a great tasting spritzer that went amazingly well with the meal! And best of all, it was such a hit, that everyone wanted it instead of booze!! The bonus for that made it easier for my Hubby to resist and not feel left out of the festivities! I'm also pleased at how my plan worked out positively for my health and fitness goals. On the 25th, Steve put out an article, Winter is Coming: Join the Holiday Watch and Defend the Realm, which was about not getting off track during the 6 weeks of the Holiday Season between Thanksgiving and New Year's. I take it as a special kind of 6 Week Challenge...granted, it overlaps this current one, but has inspired me to continue with what I had already been thinking about doing! I had already planned my workouts so that I would be free to do all prep and clean up as well as enjoy the Holiday, but still be active. I also incorporated lots of healthy aspects to the meal (as I always do)...as a country farm girl, I grew up with lots of veggies and fresh ingredients in the Holiday menu, which I have continued as an adult. I'm looking forward to working hard to stand the Watch! Epic Quest:Stealing Christmas from Fibromyalgia I'm so proud of me!! I fought hard to have a successful Thanksgiving Holiday, and didn't flare!! Well, not until after... I was a good girl and took breaks, rests and did some pampering so as not to over do it too much. I took good care of myself while making a good Holiday for everyone else. I'm proud of me! And I'm especially grateful for the people close to me who love and support me with care and understanding of what I'm battling. I may have a terrible illness/condition, but I am blessed to not have to go through it alone. When I started following the Flylady, I was surprised to discover her insistence at taking care of ourselves and taking time to pamper ourselves. She says If you don't take care of yourself you won't be able to take care of anyone else. I take that especially to heart. My beloved Hubby is always telling me to "be nice to me", and then Flylady tells me to essentially do the same...so I figured, maybe I should be better about doing that. And I'm getting there...sometimes it's hard, especially during the holidays when things get more hectic and busy. I just need to battle the guilt...I do tend to feel guilty for taking time for myself, or not being able to get things done... Hmmm....come to think about it, one of the worst things about Fibro is the guilt I feel...guilt for not doing more, guilt for having to ask for help, guilt for even having this condition in the first place!!! But I'm working on that...taking those baby steps... Main Quest: 1 points (out of 4)Baby, It's cold... This area is only partially going well...I didn't do any of the cryolipolysis this week. I'm finding it harder and harder to actually do it. It's hard to get the time...yeah, it's only an hour for the application, but there's also the recovery time after...my skin is very sensitive, so I can't really have anything touch it. So it's more like 2 hours instead of 1 three times a week...and I keep thinking that there are other, perhaps better, ways to spend those 6 hours a week... Looking back, it seems that there wasn't much change that I've documented. I'm debating trying harder or calling it a bust. Let's see how Week 5 goes. I went up a pound in my weight, but maintained my inches. Not too bad with all the feasting this week!! Week 5 Plan: apply ice packs to "pooch" for 1 hour on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday Beginning Stats: Weight - 124.5 # Week 1: Weight - 124# Week 2: Weight - 125.5# Week 3: Weight - 125# Week 4: Weight - 126# Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Ribs - 29.5" Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Belly - 34" Belly - 33.5" Belly - 33.5" Belly - 33" Belly - 33" Quest 1: 8 points (out of 10)Reindeer Games I did much better. I completed Week 3 of the c25k, but only got 4 of my yogas done. I'm going to have to work on catching up on both next week. After my first c25k, I got discouraged that my mileage had decreased...but then I realized that it was the time that decreased, not my mileage! Week 2 had increased from 30 minutes to 31 minutes, and I finished that week at over 2 miles. However, Week 3 had decreased to 28 minutes, and I only got 1.90 miles...but I not lost those 4 minutes, I probably would have gotten more than 2 miles! Still no armor building or Hubby walks, but I did get my bonus point for overall mileage, which was 29.02 before c25k and 23.53 after it!! As an "extra" bonus, and in keeping with "fighting the Winter Watch", I clocked 6.34 miles on Thanksgiving Day and 6.73 the day before, just from all the prep work I was doing! YAY! I doubled up on Sunday's yoga before my run...the first one focused on my wrists and forearms, so not much to prep me for my run...so I did the next one. It looks like I'll need to double up on a few of the less intensive yogas next week to finish on schedule... Week 5 Plan: Do You Yoga 30-day Challenge on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) Couch to 5k on Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) armor building impact training as I am able Quest 2: 10 points (out of 10)Seasons Eatings Stayed on track here, and that included Thanksgiving Day!! I incorporated inventory in the meal...covered the 4 sides with inventory and even the oil for the turkey! However, we pretty much dined on leftovers the rest of the week. I used the leftovers to make "new" meals so as to clear out the fridge without having to eat the same thing over and over and over again! I kinda added to the inventory by freezing some of the sides for later and boiling the bones to make stock for soups, stews, gravies, etc. I'm not counting this as a failure, nor deducting points, because it added to the inventory, but a success because I didn't waste anything and will be feeding my family nutritious meals later. Next week will be a little difficult, because we'll be working on clearing out the last of the leftovers (like using the leftover crudite for salads and casseroles) and have two meals that will be out (a dinner meeting and a Holiday Party). Week 5 Plan: try to incorporate some inventory in the meals on the menu (still pending) 5 breakfasts utilizing inventory extra points possible for snacks, dessert and weekend "brunch" that clears inventory Quest 3: 11 points (out of 15)Batteries not included... Still lacking on my BBR, I may need to adjust a little bit. With everything drying out as it gets colder, we set up the humidifiers/vaporizers and have noticed that we wake up congested and with headaches when they don't run overnight. So with prepping them added to my BBR, it's harder to get it all done in the time I originally allotted. I did better on my bedtime and even got a few pamperings in! I didn't do as many of my meditations as I had originally planned...need to step that one up. Week 5 Plan: Before Bed Routine Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday Do You Yoga 30-day Meditation Challenge Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) go to bed 8 hours before alarm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Life Quest 1: 13 points (out of 22)Harnessing Holiday Havoc Not too bad considering there was a Holiday smack in the middle of this week. I failed on my Holiday Cruising Missions and Zones, but nailed my Dailies and WHB...and even got lots of decluttering done! Week 5 Plan: Weekly Home Blessing on Thursday or Saturday (Holiday Party on Friday) Daily Cleaning Routines Monday through Friday, but often includes dishes and picking up after ourselves on Saturday & Sunday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Missions for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Detail Cleaning for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Holiday Cruising Missions attempted Monday through Friday, but may end up getting on on Saturday or Sunday if Hubby needed Area decluttered and organized hopefully I'll be able to work this in during the week...if not on the weekend to clear boxes with Hubby in the Project Room Life Quest 2: 6 points (out of 16)The Holiday Line Up... Not as well as I would have liked, but with all the prep, clean up and the Holiday itself, I didn't get to any emails...I didn't have time to get online much at all!! My saving grace was all the scheduling tricks & tips I was able to incorporate into our Holiday Schedule that kept me on track so that everything got done efficiently and on time! Week 4 Plan: create & maintain schedule Monday through Friday to incorporate tasking for work hours time myself for remaining tasks to see how long they actually take daily emails Monday through Friday and time myself to see how long it takes to clear a day's worth of emails NF weekly update for Week 3 on Monday and Week 4 on Tuesday Check for minis daily until posted and update spreadsheet timely and regularly Do Ambassadoring tasks Monday through Friday (check Recruits progress & Recruits forum for late starters, check Assassin Initiates forum, post motivation as necessary, update spreadsheet accordingly) Life Quest 3: 0 points (out of 6)Deck the Halls with Holly or Money... Ok, so no surprise here... This week's mini was Level 4: Underwater, which was static holds...400 seconds of them to be exact! The Yoshi option (which is an either/or, not "in addition to") was to cook something and post with pics using Oranges. I did 2 minutes of each of the 4 variations (Hollow Body, Wall Sit, Plank & Superman), which added up to 480 seconds! I would basically do a hold as long as I could, then putter, then on my next break, do it again... I've noticed a pattern, which makes me kinda scared of the last two weeks...500 and 600 (number or seconds) of something...I'm afeared... No surprise minis this week... Super Mario Assassin All-Stars: Green Team... Week 1 Mini: Level 1: Basic - Jump, Jump, Jump Around - Reward: +1 DEXWeek 2 Mini: Level 2: Underground - How Low Can You Go? - Reward: +1 WISWeek 3 Mini: Level 3: Haunted House - Boo! - Reward: +1 STAWeek 4 Mini: Level 4: Underwater! - Just Keep Swimming - Reward: +1 CONWeek 5 Mini:Week 6 Mini: Next Weeks Focus... We're in the home stretch now...I've fallen behind in a lot of areas this time around...mostly because I took on more than I probably should have, but it's too late now. Next week I need to catch up so that I can be on track to finish strong! Work Hard and Catch Up in Week 5... Bast
Week 5 Summary Ok, so this week really really sucked!! I started off OK, but Tuesday night, I suffered a severe allergic reaction at our evening JATA (Japanese American Tomodachi Association) meeting! I'm actually not allergic to much...and they are things that used to be easy to avoid...cigarette smoke (the chemicals in them, not the tobacco), Coca Cola (something in it, I'm fine with Pepsi, RC and even generic cola...) and artificial sweeteners (the chemicals that are in NutraSweet, Equal, Sweetn'Low, even Splenda...). But now these days, food companies have been adding artificial sweeteners to their products (often in addition to sugar, as well as in products that shouldn't have sweetener at all, like beef broth!), so I've had to read product labels more and more and thus learn how to make many of our favorite items from scratch...kind of a pain, but at least I can control what goes into our food! Well, in this case, I suffered at the hands of a careless Food Court worker...the connections for the Root Beer (fine for me do have) and Diet Pepsi were switched...and I unwittingly took a huge slurp from my straw before I realized the mistake!! Needless to say, my hubby had to run into the store and buy me some Benedryl before my throat swelled shut!! Because the meeting was also a staff meeting, I needed to stay, so I stuck it out and ended up taking 2 or 3 Benedryl to keep the effects of my allergy at bay. Needless to say, I slept most of the day Wednesday and felt like crap on a cracker! And as I was trying to recover, the weather turned lousy and aggravated my Fibro more than it already was from the allergic reaction. I felt better on Friday, and took it slow and easy as I prepped for the JATA Holiday Party...and took my own beverages from home just in case...!! And of course, we already had a full weekend planned, so I didn't get back to much of anything that I had intended to get caught up on. So, looking back on this 6WC, I'm noticing that there have been lots of things that have thwarted my progress that have all been out of my control. With that in mind, I do know it's my own fault for taking on so much extra this time to begin with...perhaps I should have kept it more simple. But that's neither here nor there... What I do intend to work on here in this home stretch is to not give up...I'm going to keep on trying...if I can finish each quest with at least 50%, I will call it a success...it's OK to not be perfect, as long as I tried, I'll still be better at the end than I was at the beginning. Epic Quest:Stealing Christmas from Fibromyalgia Today's inspiration came from my beloved Hubby...as I was sitting here looking at the different Fibro Inspirationals out in the Webiverse...I laughed at this one, and he looked to see what I was laughing at, chuckled and said, "yeah, that is you...you do that and you would do that!" And thus, this week is inspired! I've said it before, he's my greatest cheerleader and I am grateful to be so blessed! Last week was very hard with the allergic reaction knocking me down and the Fibro sitting on me along with the weather. I didn't get any of my workouts after Tuesday, but I wasn't a total slug, either. Now, I need to keep it up! Main Quest: 1 points (out of 4)Baby, It's cold... I'm still not doing my cryolipolysis, but I am at least maintaining! I lost 1/2 a pound, and all my inches are the same. I stated earlier that if I do at least 50% for the challenge, I'm calling it a success. Well, I'm only 2 points shy in this area. So I'll need to maintain and do at least 1 cryolipolysis in Week 6 to reach that goal. I think I can do it... Week 6 Plan: apply ice packs to "pooch" for 1 hour at least once Beginning Stats: Weight - 124.5 # Week 1: Weight - 124# Week 2: Weight - 125.5# Week 3: Weight - 125# Week 4: Weight - 126# Week 5: Weight - 125.5# Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Ribs - 29.5" Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Ribs - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Waist - 30" Belly - 34" Belly - 33.5" Belly - 33.5" Belly - 33" Belly - 33" Belly - 33" Quest 1: 2 points (out of 10)Reindeer Games I did HORRIBLE here... I only did one yoga and 1 c25k on Tuesday morning...I did get 2.52 miles though!! However, the allergic reaction on Tuesday evening ruined the rest of my week's plan. I also only logged 13.75 miles for the week (and that includes my one run). Since this was also out of my control, as long as I finish at 50% (at least), I'll call this a success. As it currently stands, I only need 2 workouts to reach that goal! However, I want to do better than that...Since I'm planning on participating in the Base 5k in two weeks, I need to get back on track with my c25k...I'm currently only 1/3 through the c25k Week 4...so I need to at least finish Week 4 next week, but I'm going to try to clear Week 5 also (or at least put a dent in it...). I've enjoyed doing my yogas as my "pre-c25k stretch), so I'll keep that up...hopefully, I'll be able to get better non-workout mileage in Week 6... Week 6 Plan: Do You Yoga 30-day Challenge before each c25k workout, and on off days Couch to 5k on Tuesday, Wednesday,Friday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) armor building impact training as I am able Quest 2: 8 points (out of 10)Seasons Eatings Mostly stayed on track here, mainly with breakfasts...dinners were all about using up the Thanksgiving leftovers (which doesn't count as inventory). Since this category is currently at 85%, I don't need to worry about success...I've already succeeded!! I'm just going to stay on track and keep whittling down the inventory...I've got a couple of days that will be eating out or take out, and one potluck (our contribution doesn't incorporate inventory) which may lead to dinner of leftovers that night, so those days will be a bust...but I'll work on using inventory for the rest of the week's dinners as well as in my Holiday Baking Week 6 Plan: incorporate inventory in 4 of the meals on the menu (still pending) utilize inventory in Holiday Baking 5 breakfasts utilizing inventory extra points possible for snacks, dessert and weekend "brunch" that clears inventory Quest 3: 11 points (out of 15)Batteries not included... This was rough...I did OK with my bedtime (or rather my wake up time...), but I'm still lacking on my BBR, and totally crapped out on my meditations. Most of the nights, I was so wiped out (between meds, pain, or just sheer exhaustion) that I didn't have the energy to do a BBR or meditation, much less a pampering session. However, I did incorporate a couple of them during the day... I'm already at 64%, so if I just maintain, I'll still finish pretty strong here.... Week 6 Plan: Before Bed Routine Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday Do You Yoga 30-day Meditation Challenge Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (to catch up) go to bed 8 hours before alarm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Life Quest 1: 8 points (out of 22)Harnessing Holiday Havoc Yeah, not so good here...It was kinda hard to work on stuff when I was down from my allergic reaction and Fibro, but I did what I could to stay on top of things...granted, I didn't do as well as I would have liked, but I wasn't a complete failure...I at least did something! I'm at 52% so far, so technically, I'm good, but I want to work to do better. I'm going to focus on catching up on my Zones, Missions and Holiday Cruising as best I can with everything else that will be going on this week...I'm not going to worry about getting it all done before "working hours", just getting it done! Week 6 Plan: Weekly Home Blessing on Thursday or Saturday (Holiday Party on Friday) Daily Cleaning Routines Monday through Friday, but often includes dishes and picking up after ourselves on Saturday & Sunday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Missions for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Daily Zone Detail Cleaning for 15 minutes Monday through Friday (bonus goal: complete each before 8 am or after 5 pm) Holiday Cruising Missions attempted Monday through Friday, but may end up getting on on Saturday or Sunday if Hubby needed Area decluttered and organized hopefully I'll be able to work this in during the week...if not on the weekend to clear boxes with Hubby in the Project Room Life Quest 2: 12 points (out of 16)The Holiday Line Up... Slowly improving here...had a few activities to plan for, so was able to stay mostly on track with scheduling...the one bonus to be down from the allergic reaction and Fibro was that I worked on clearing my emails on my laptop while stuck in my Nest!! I got my NF updates, Ambassadoring and Mini postings as well! I'm currently at 45% here, so I only need 5 points to reach my 50% minimum goal...but with Week 6 being full of activities...I have outings, appointments and activities on 4 out of the 7 days, so a lot to keep up with on the schedule...I think I'll clear that "easy peasy"...now if I can keep on top of my NF and emails, then I'll get the "lemon squeezy" as a bonus! Hubby goes on leave next week, so my schedule will end up mostly out the window (it always does when he takes leave!). So I'm not going to stress keeping up with my "work hours" schedule...just making sure everything on the "to do" list is done is what matters most! I will at least try to get as much done during those times, as I'm able...just to keep up the habit... Week 6 Plan: create & maintain schedule Monday through Friday to incorporate tasking for work hours time myself for remaining tasks to see how long they actually take daily emails Monday through Friday and time myself to see how long it takes to clear a day's worth of emails NF weekly update for Week 5 on Tuesday and Week 6 on Sunday (full summary perhaps the following Monday...) Check for minis daily until posted and update spreadsheet timely and regularly Do Ambassadoring tasks Monday through Friday and again on Sunday (check Recruits progress, check Assassin Initiates forum, post motivation as necessary, update spreadsheet accordingly) Life Quest 3: 4 points (out of 6)Deck the Halls with Holly or Money... I'm on the board!! LOL!! The Finance class finally got scheduled, so I reviewed it myself (personal refresher), did a "mock class" with friends & Hubby (for his instruction), went over everything with Hubby, then reviewed how the class went for him after he finished. I'm waaaaayy behind on this one at only 14%!! I'll need to do 13 activities in this area next week to reach 50%...I'm not sure I can pull that off...but I'm going to try!! Week 6 Plan: Study Herbology during "work day" (M-F 8a-5p) Complete at least two Herbology projects during "work day" Read something Finance (magazine, book, article, etc.) or study during "work day" (M-F 8a-5p) Research Jobs at beginning and end of the week (and apply if able) For the Guild:An Assassin for all Seasons... This week's mini was Level 5: Flying, which was pull ups!! This time it was a point system based on the style of pull up...1 point for each inverted row or scapular pull up (500 to complete level), 5 points for negative or assisted pull ups (100 to complete the level) and 10 points for full pull ups or chin ups (50 to complete the level)!! Yep, my fears from last week were confirmed...there was NO WAY I could do all these pull ups!! And since no one offered me an assist, I went with the Yoshi option and made a dish with mushrooms... Traditional Japanese Kinoko Gohan (mushroom rice), to be exact!! No surprise minis this week... Super Mario Assassin All-Stars: Green Team... Week 1 Mini: Level 1: Basic - Jump, Jump, Jump Around - Reward: +1 DEXWeek 2 Mini: Level 2: Underground - How Low Can You Go? - Reward: +1 WISWeek 3 Mini: Level 3: Haunted House - Boo! - Reward: +1 STAWeek 4 Mini: Level 4: Underwater! - Just Keep Swimming - Reward: +1 CONWeek 5 Mini: Level 5: Flying! - Fight or Flight - Reward: +1 STRWeek 6 Mini: Next Weeks Focus... Ok, so life and the universe thwarted my attempts to catch up this week...that's OK. I'm going to work hard to at least stay on track and hopefully bring my lagging numbers up to 50%...which will be a challenge in and of itself with all the activities going on this week!! I can do it in Week 6...
