Frost of the Gloaming
Might ride the trainer if I can shake this head cold. Supposed to be bitterly cold here this weekend so much so that they moved the Winter Marathon from this weekend to next because they wind chill is supposed to brutal, 10 minutes or less for frostbite; so yea I will not be doing my long run this weekend. Next weekend it supposed to be in the 40's so I'm not sweating starting a week later Quote Between a rock and a hard place, use our finger nails to climb, it's all we know.......... acgilbert11@gmail.com
Hello Fellow Scouts! I would like some training advice for getting back into swimming. I can breast stroke for days, but can not for the life of me swim freestyle slowly. My little bit of competitive swimming (15 years ago) sets in a I don't breath properly and just sprint it... any advice on breathing and slowing down would be very welcomed! I was also wondering if there's anything around like the Walk to Mordor Challenge for Swimming? Syren
Hello Fellow Scouts! I would like some training advice for getting back into swimming. My little bit of competitive swimming (15 years ago) sets in a I don't breath properly and just sprint it... any advice on breathing and slowing down would be very welcomed! I was also wondering if there's anything around like the Walk to Mordor Challenge for Swimming? Drills. Do. All. Of. The. Drills. Drills make you slow down, and since you were a competitive swimmer, you probably remember the painfully slow progress. You may have to tie your feet together or glue one arm to your side to get through them -- but all of the drills! Breathing drill to keep you from sprinting: hypoxic drill: 4 x 4 x 75 freefirst rep breathe every 3rd stroke2nd rep breathe every 5th stroke3rd rep breathe every 5th stroke4th rep breathe every 7th strokerest about 15 seconds between reps and 30 - 60 seconds between sets Also, you may try to go for endurance rather than short bursts if sprinting is your trouble -- so start adding 200's liberally into your workout -- I like to do physics calculations when swimming distance, because it keeps me from getting bored. I know of nothing like the Walk to Mordor Challenge for swimming -- but we could always swim to Gondolin or come up with something from another genre 1 Quote STRENGTH (0) | DEXTERITY (-1) | CONSTITUTION (1) | WISDOM (3) | INTELLIGENCE (3) | CHARISMA (2) Syren -- Chaotic Good -- Human Druish Ranger -- Current Challenge -- Battle Log Link to comment
acgilbert11@gmail.com
Thanks Swimming Guru! I never thought of hypoxic drills... I'll have to give it a shot! And it's not fiction, but I just looked up the English Channel, the Straight of Dover is 32.3 km (20.1 miles) wide and the max width is 240 km (150 miles). I think trying to swim 150 (or 300!) might be a similar feat!
