fleaball
I see your point and in some ways agree, though my "first blush" reaction was different. Initially it felt like (just how I felt, not how it might have been meant): "If you're not going to join one of the cool guilds we're going to stick you at the kids table." Now that I've had a day or so to think about, I'll be a Rebel and offer support to any newbies so they start off on the right foot.Party in the Rebel forum! On one hand it does kinda feel like "pick something or gtfo" but on the other hand, meh. We can still badger everybody wherever we wind up. And seeing how is old folks set up challenges may help the newbs; I know it took me like a week to come up with goals for my first challenge because I was so stuck on following the instructions to the letter. If I'd been able to poke around and see how other people were doing it (I was too chicken to leave the Level 1 section bc I didn't know what guild I'd belong to) I probably would've gotten it together sooner. 6 Level 69 Battle Kitten Battle Log | Current Challenge MyFitnessPal | Fitbit | Duolingo Ici je vis la vie que j'ai choisie Je suis partie pour reconstruire ma vie C'est dit, c'est ainsi Link to comment
Darth Yoga
Please keep in mind I am still completely new here and have yet to complete a challenge yet. However I have a decent idea I think that might make things a little easier for everyone. I feel like in the mini-challenges that each class has, that there should be 3 levels of exercises for people of various degrees of fitness ability. Just pulling something out of my ass here but say the mini-challenge is to do 100 of a certain exercise for a week, Tier 3 can do 100 Burpees, Tier 2 can do 100 pushups, Tier 1 can do 100 knee-pushups. I feel like giving the exercises that go with the guilds and also providing 3 levels of intensity so people who might want to try it can do it as well. Please disregard if this is something that is already being done. I'm just observing in the corner I would also love to see a more formalized system like this for guild challenges, to allow the less fit people to feel like they can fully participate in mini challenges. I participated in the Order of the Stick quest last time, and part of the Assassins interim challenge, and on some of the stuff I felt like it just wasn't even worth it for me to contribute to a certain part of the challenge because other people are doing ten times more than me. This past challenge the assassins often gave options, with an admonishment to pick something that was a challenge for you, and a non-fitness-related option if you just can't manage it at all. That is great! I know it would be more work and planning, but it would be really awesome for guilds to consistently have three tiered options in their mini-challenges. It would push guild leaders to consistently offer an actual fitness-related option appropriate for the less fit people. It lets the less-fit people know that for real, they are welcome to participate in challenges and will not be "dragging the team down". I mean, that is part of the NF mission statement, right? Everyone is welcome. And if there are certain prerequisites - you must be able to run, you must have access to free weights, whatever - that becomes a lot clearer when you try to think of the Tier 1 option. It also gives guild leaders a more consistent way of balancing teams. If someone aced one of the lower tiers, the guild leaders could give them a poke to try the harder tier next time. I know that I tend to be really conservative in my estimates of what I can do, and I've really benefited when I've had some external prompt to try something I thought was definitely too hard. 2 Joshua - Yoga Ninja Weasel #22 Weasel does 500 Pullups Link to comment

I get that some people are motivated by competition, but I'd like to see that kind of activity relegated to the PvP stuff, rather than guild things. Having to compete against someone or be part of a group effort to beat another group is unfair because of failure mode. I can't emotionally invest in the challenge if my success is dependent on someone else's performance, even if it were easy to make things otherwise balanced. I don't compete unless the point of the game is the game itself instead of the final score. Other people have expressed concern about not being able to compete at the same level as other nerds because of being much less able than other people. 1 I have conditions that affect my social awareness. Assassins will still be doing circus stuff and dancing since there are so many of us there already doing those things. Lots of pole and silks etc. I think the other guild descriptions are changed only to match Steve's book, rather than because anyone should move. Anyway, reading the new descriptions it seems that the Assassins is still the closest fit for circus, with the possible exception of Druids for less strength-dependent arts. 3 Level 25 Cyborg Assassin [ STR 36.75 | DEX 26.00 | STA 28.00 | CON 31.25 | WIS 29.25 | CHA 24.50 ] current 5-week challenge: March 2020 external websites with my resources for... fitness & breathwork | mental math & mind sports | motivation & productivity Link to comment
