Aiming to Kick Butt on 8 Wheels

Hi all :) I'm Terror, long time lurker - first time poster.

I'm a roller derby player in the UK, and I've just been promoted to my league's A Team as of January, which is a really big deal for me. I've worked really hard on my skill and have started doing more Plyo/HIIT work recently - but my aim is strength (particularly legs and core), stability, agilty and explosive power.

I've recently turned 30 and got married (yay me!) and work in a secondary school full time as a teacher. My Derby training is 7hrs a week spread over three sessions, 40 minutes drive away. I find I'm always busy and lack sleep - but I'm determined to be a better me.

I DO NOT like: running, anything aerobics-class-esque (I feel like an idiot clapping my hands above my head)

I DO like: kettlebells, skating, working out with my husband

I NEED to: drink more water, get more routine in my life, handle cravings/busy times without bad snacking

Welcome to the rebellion!

 

Congratulations on the wedding! You can kill two birds with one stones: when you feel like having a snack, drink a tall glass of water.

 

Better yet: Make shaved ice. You take some ice cubes, wrap them in a towel and smash them with a rolling pin or similar heavy object. Place the crushed ice in a bowl and flavor with a bit of juice (not too much!), or vanilla, or other flavor extract. Or just eat it plain. Another trick is to use one cube of frozen juice with, say, 6-10 ice cubes.

Oh, I can skate. I just can't kickass. :playful:  Yet.

Let me get through a few challenges here, then, I'll think about it.

 

My Dad loved skating, and was roller-blading into his 70s until a spill caused a detached retina. So, I guess you're right. Never too old.
