MAIN QUEST: Faster than my arrow? I think not. - Half Marathon Training
Friday was indeed a rest day -- Saturday was not. In fact, Saturday was a 7 mile run. SEVEN MILES. I kept fairly even pacing the whole time, took a few recovery walk breaks when I got a little too big for my britches and sped up too much. It was a gorgeous 18 degrees out, and both of my water packs froze... but it was still a great run. I needed a good long run. It was a big confidence booster to not feel 'done' yet, considering it was only half the distance of my half marathon XD Sunday was some walking to recover. My calves were a bit upset, so my normal leg day turned into an active recovery day.
 

GOAL 1 No, really, put that apple on your head... - Food Journaling
I am still pretty frustrated at how much I've been logging and how little I have been losing. I have had a deficit every week, enough to account for losing at least a half to a full pound... and nada. Stuck as shit at 157 still and I want to throw my scale out the window. It isn't muscle, none of my measurements are changing... So I am back on a 21 Day Fix meal plan again, since that's how I got back to 145 last time.

GOAL 2 Avarosa guide me. - 6,000 steps a day
Friday I paced my living room until I got there. Of course, with a 7 mile run on Saturday, I was well over. Sunday, my fitbit battery died at about 4000 steps. :/
 
GOAL 3 For the Freljord! - Declutter
It was a tiny project, but all the old laundry and shit stuffed in corners got taken care of. One big last project this week and hopefully it's DONE.
 
GOAL 4 No One Escapes My Aim - Be a better friend
I went dark on Fri-Sun like I do sometimes, but I manages to check in all over the place before that!

MAIN QUEST: Faster than my arrow? I think not. - Half Marathon Training
4 miles last night and they felt pretty good. I am having some calf issues wince my long run on Saturday. I am wondering of running on my YakTrax is causing some of the pain. It's that odd point in the season where not all the roads have snow on them, but the sidewalks do, so I have to wear them still, but half the time I am on pavement. Hoping the pain passes or the show melts... or comes back. Either way.

Back on a 21 Day Fix menu again, and logging is nice. It feels good to have to think about my food rather than rely on husband and such.

Strength day! Abs and upper body with Upper Body Fix. Holy crap have I lost strength! I used to be able to do "heavy" weights with 10lbs. Now I am back to struggling with my 7.5s. Hopefully by the end of this next challenge I'll be back up to 10s!

I did well with my tracking, even though I had to change my food plans last minute for dinner with my sister. I still ate at goal and didn't eat anything bad or off my 21 Day Fix plan.

Lower Body Fix today. WTH, Autumn? Why you gotta hurt me so bad? My legs are sore. I'm not looking forward to my run, but I am looking forward to a nap.

Still frustrated that I'm tracking well and gaining weight. I am going to try out a Running World recommendation and get 15-25g of protein in my system immediately after every run, now. Some people say it helps your body not attack itself and/or store fat to save muscle.

Didn't make it yesterday night. I just wanted sleep and peanut butter. I had peanut butter. I did not get much sleep.

MAIN QUEST: Faster than my arrow? I think not. - Half Marathon Training
3 mile run last night. Got a solo run PR (because you always run faster with friends or in a race). I'm up to 55 miles in 2016. Considering I only ran 150 total last year, it feels pretty good. I am already planning on my next half marathon :\ Maybe I should get through the first one...

Same as  yesterday. My body just f*cking stays at 159 right now when I was 152 before Thanksgiving and 146 this summer. I'm sick of it. I though tracking would really help, but it is making me more and more frustrated because NOTHING IS CHANGING. Am I eating too much? Don't know. Too little? Don't know. I want to give up.

I'm having one of those mornings where I don't really like me and I am wondering why people bother with me. I just feel sad, stuck, lost... So I think cleaning tonight is going to help me. I think the cabin fever has me feeling like the walls a closing in around me. Plus the piles around the house drive my stress through the roof.

I don't understand nutrition. I just went pro temporarily on MFP so I could set goals by grams instead of percents. USDA suggests that I eat 1800 a day to get back to my goal weight I had this time last year. I don't know if that means I should EAT BACK when I exercise off, so that I NET 1800 or what. Their suggestions for protein/carbs seemed better for my training plan.

 

They suggest:
1806 calories a day (to reach goal by May)
155g protein

175g carbs

65g fat

 

I don't even know enough to know what all that means. I just try to eat clean and have one bigger day every week to two weeks.

I'm super skeptical about the USDA, since their rec for all the carbs all the time completely clashes with my body's needs (and left me feeling like absolute shit - plus, made me absolutely crazy). 

 

Here is what I use to calculate my macros: How to Eat According to the Primal Blueprint | Mark's Daily Apple

 

For me, as long as I stick around those macros, I'm golden. I have enough energy, I can do what I need to do (barring race days - I'm a big fan of having a carb-y dinner before a race + a breakfast with protein, fat and carbs), my body doesn't blow up, and it works (mostly) without the crap I used to deal with. I know when I'm eating out too much or I'm not doing what I'm supposed to be doing because I feel a difference (and so do my pants). 

 

As for calorie deficits, calories do not operate like a bank. Are you hungry after your workout? Have a small snack if you need to. Are you full after dinner? Don't eat anything. 

 

Of course, you can fall down the wonder diet rabbit hole, but my personal general guidelines are: eat mostly veggies & meat; generally avoid filler foods that I don't need (toast with breakfast, burger buns, rice with Chinese food, pasta); stay the hell away from beans and legumes (my body hates them); try really hard not to eat enough cheese to make myself feel like shit; and limit eating out to the weekends. Aim for something along the lines of what I eat during the week when I *do* eat out. 

 

I snack mainly on raw unsalted almonds, use full fats when I cook, and generally don't go for treats/empty calories (I say that, but my DH's birthday is today and I'm 100% sure I'll be drinking and eating some sort of nonsense). 

 

I also decided about a year ago that I was going to actively refuse to let myself go crazy over this shit any longer - which totally helped. 

 

And if I've gone a little crazy and need a re-set, I do a strict Whole30. For me, if I'm doing a W30 to the letter (the no white potatoes OG version), it's broken 1 plateau and fixed 1 case of the holiday chubbs; my 3rd I wasn't as strict, but I reset my mental space at least. 

 

Again, this is what works for me - I'm not trying to sell you on anything in particular, and your mileage may vary.

I think going low carb this week is messing with my brain. I am alternating between exhausted and wanting to cry and so annoyed with everyone that I want to scream. I am going to try a few adjustments and try my damnedest to reach them as goals - maybe even in the next challenge....
